Roasted Eel & Alaskan salmon roe rice....hmmm...the eel size is pretty small for $18....
Jun C.

I like their braised pork knuckle and feet. The order doesn't come with good amout of meat but they do taste good. I dont recommend the eel and salmon roe rice tho. The eel is so small, that I felt like I was robbed. If the attached picture can't tell you, just image the size of a cigarette box but not with the width.....and it is sold for $18.. Hmm.....come on..... I think Teacher Soup is a very stingy Family...(That's what it mean, Lao Tang Jia).... I'm definitely not ordering eel ever again here.

Good as always!

It's a Smart kitchen style but has very amazing taste and chill outdoor environments. Best to call n order ahead to skip the line. Great service from the owner!! Got the pork knuckle rice for lunch, and abalone soup for dinner this time, comfy and happy

Ordered takeout. Order took 10-20 mins to prepare. Hainan chicken came w three sauces and a soup. Very flavorful and tasty. The chicken was soft and then rice was seasoned w the chicken. Pork knuckle bowl was good. Careful if you cant handle spicy because the red chilis in this are HOT. It came with picked veggies a d a fried tofu. This is a good filling bowl that I definitely can see myself ordering again if i was eating by myself. The pork feet rice is the standard. They served a lot of rice and had one small piece of abalone in it with some mushrooms. This place is authentic and has wonderful flavor on its food.

random afternoon on a Wednesday, has work off and decided to just chill. Woke up a bit later and was hungry cuz lunch was missed. I decided to order some food from this place to try. The abalones with chicken wings were an interesting choice, didn't expect the pair but it was really on point. The first thing smelled great. The food was braised in a really nice sauce and it was very tasty, not too salty, the rice carried some sauce, it was really good. Definitely was a happy camper afterward. I would definitely come back and order another time around. Goood afternoon.

After being blown away by the flavorful and unique dishes at Lao Tang JIa's last time, the Chaozhou-born owner has done it again! This summer, he's introduced a revamped version of the classic Chaozhou seafood dish, "Lo Zaai" (捞汁), as well as a seasonal limited edition item - jumbo-sized Argentinean prawns pan-fried with fragrant scallion oil. Let me tell you, the Lo Zaai seafood is an absolute winner, with a broth base that's rich but not heavy. As expected, the star of the show is the plump and juicy oysters, which are a true delight to the senses. Paired with crunchy abalone, succulent prawns, and a medley of aromatics and veggies, this dish is an explosion of sweet and savory flavors that's perfect for the summer heat! But that's not all - the double-pepper chicken with chestnuts and mushrooms, as well as the spicy braised chicken bones, are both top-notch in terms of taste and texture. And let's not forget about the braised pork trotters with peanuts and abalone, which are a heavenly source of collagen for all the beauty-conscious ladies out there. Lao Tang JIa's dishes are truly a fusion of traditional Chaozhou flavors and modern culinary innovation. I can't wait to see what other delicious surprises the owner has in store for us. Recently, whenever I have the chance to return to Irvine, I always want to get some takeout from Lao Tang Jia

Pork Bone Soup with Seaweed & Shrimps & Fishballs /
Jinan L.

The food tastes good with stable quality. It's supplied by a smart kitchen and dine in option is not available. Soup is full in a very strong flavor with white pepper: actually quite good for Teochew flavor. The soup comes with a few fishballs with four shrimps. It's very well packaged too. For the pork knuckle rice I would say it's just okay as compared to an authentic Teochew pork rice. But if you look for something to eat quickly, try this combo.

A. Golden Fish Maw Chicken Soup with Sea Coconut .. would not recommend
Cha L.

We ordered the Braised Chicken Wing & Abalone rice and hubby said he was satisfied but felt that it was overpriced for the portion given. Also would not go out of our way to get this again. I ordered the Golden Fish Maw Soup and this soup is lacking essence. It was overly salty and tasted like msg rather than that purse wholesome soup you expected from the menu pictures they presented. If you're looking for that "ancient" nourishing Chinese soup, this place ain't it. When hubby tasted it, he said it tasted like American chicken noodle soup and if you're anything like me you'll know what broth actually tastes when using quality ingredients as it will only enhance the natural flavors from the chicken. Also... mine came with a single drumstick which tasted very bland. Reply to owner's response: You lost me at "And don't make judgments too fast." Sounds a bit passive aggressive given that I've provided my honest opinion about your food. Sure, you can say that Ubereats markup prices but that still doesn't dismiss my opinion on how the soup tastes.

Oyster soup, pork trotter, pork feet, lemon coke
Shelly L.

First time ordering off DoorDash, food was amazing! This time ordered pick up and went and got the food in person, there's no mark up when you order in person vs. on DoorDash or Yelp or an other food service app. I got the oyster rice soup, pork feet, pork trotter over rice. All 3 items were fantastic. Also got a lemon coke, great way to cut the savory flavors with something refreshing. The oysters were super fresh and very delicious. I highly recommend and will be back to try more items on the menu!

(5 stars) I had an absolutely delightful experience here. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, each one bursting with flavor. The presentation was as impressive as the taste, and the portion size was just right. What impressed me even more was the attention to detail and quality of ingredients used in every dish. It's evident that the chefs take great pride in their craft. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient but high quality take out food service!

the house spicy pork knuckle rice is amazing. The stewed pork is especially soft and glutinous. THE RICE mix the sauce is very good. you have to try it

Love the food here which is very authentic. Ordered many times and the service is also good here. You can check the menu from yelp and just call them to order. They will let you know when the food is ready, pick up and go home enjoy the food :)

Food is so tasty, recommend pig foot rice, seafood platter, chicken soup with abalones, definitely will com again. When I pick up, the host is very nice, service is good.

Chili Oil Seafood Platter /

This is a self-service and touchless ordering concept. There is no service so no need to tip, it takes about 10 minutes from ordering to serving, the food is delicious and the portions are good, perfect for a light lunch or evening meal. Seating is limited and you can sit outside and see the planes take off and land from the SNA. A very special dining experience. Will come back again.

Leaving this review after an almost bad experience to help the restaurant or anyone else that may…read morehave eaten here today. 5 stars for fixing the problem immediately for us. We've been here several times before and what keeps us coming back is the quality of the food. Today, they had a new chef cook our food and it was terrible. Green beans were extremely sour (way way too much vinegar). Mapo Tofu had a ton of oil but not enough sauce, so it was just flavorless except the oil. The fried pork chop was over fried where some pieces you can't even bite through. The rice had too much water in it and was mushy. I rarely return food but this time it was so bad we had to let them know. We returned all of our dishes back to them. They let us know there was a new chef today, and they would remake all the dishes for us with the original chef. The replacement dishes were just as good as all our previous visits and it was excellent again! So thanks to the staff for fixing the problem. I'm not sure if they are training a new chef to take over, or as a backup, but they need to be careful as serving bad quality food like that would drive most people to never come back. We knew the food was good from prior experience, so we knew we could ask why the food quality changed. For first time customers, or those that may have ordered to go - if you had bad food today, it may have been a fluke due to the new chef. Service however was a amazing as usual. For all our visits including today, the staff has been kind and always looking for ways to help out and make sure we were having a good experience. So besides the food being good, I would say excellent service is also huge plus here. Don't be fooled with the automated ordering and robot delivering the food into thinking there is no service. The people behind the counter are awesome! Hope management takes care of this new chef issue quickly since their food quality is the main reason people come here. There was a night and day difference between the original food we got today, and the replacement!

Modern Chinese, Ancient Disappointment…read more EverSpring looks great, sounds great, and is priced like it plans to deliver something memorable. Unfortunately, what I'll remember most is how quickly my excitement turned into polite disappointment. The salt and pepper pork chops were...bold. And by bold I mean shockingly salty, like the chef was trying to preserve them for winter. I've had salt and pepper chops more times than I can count, and this version tasted nothing like any of them. Overcooked, oddly flavored, and just completely off. If this was a creative interpretation, creativity may have gone a step too far. Then there was the crispy beef. I say this with sincerity: it was inedible. Not "I'm picky" inedible--burned-breading-that-tastes-like-toasted-mistakes inedible. Each bite delivered a charming note of scorched regret, like someone deep-fried a crouton and called it a day. I stopped eating not because I was full, but because my taste buds filed an HR complaint. And look, if this were cheap comfort food, I'd shrug it off. But this is sit-up-straight-when-the-bill-arrives pricing. For what we paid, I expected at least one dish to make me say, "Okay, this works." That moment never came. The concept is solid, but the food just didn't deliver. I wanted to love it. My taste buds, however, requested an early exit. Everything went to the trash can. Never again.

There were a few featured items that seemed to be what most people were ordering. I went with the flow and ordered one of the top items, the Ma Hu Beef Noodles. They were definitely interesting, as the flavor profile wasn't something I had experienced before. I'm no noodle connoisseur, but it was easy to tell they were fresh. They had that lighter, slightly chewy texture that stands out compared to the usual. On a random weekday they had a good crowd for lunch, mostly office types from the surrounding buildings. It wasn't hard to get a table, but the food did take a bit longer than expected to come out. Pricewise you aren't looking at a bargain, but it's not unreasonable. I imagine parking might be difficult if it is more crowded as there are a limited number of spots in the parking lot and it has a funky one-way design. Overall this is a decent lunch spot if you're nearby and something different from the norm. Four solid stars.

It's about time I reviewed them! My number one dish goes to the minced pork rice- it's a pretty simple dish, but it's sooo good here for some reason. I've ordered this dish at other Taiwanese restaurants and nothing compares to the one at A&J- the pork is always SO flavorful, never dry and enough to coat all the rice, the egg is perfection, and all the little garnishes compliment the dish so well. It's also just as amazing takeout which I always appreciate. Other go-tos are the spicy beef noodle soup- the beef in it is always so tender and I love getting the thick noodle option because of the rough texture it adds. Beef roll and pan fried dumplings are always a good option for sharing. Have tried a lot of things on their menu and nothing so far has disappointed!

This has long been our go-to for Taiwanese comfort food, and while the flavors weren't always 100% authentic, they hit the spot. However, our recent visits have been disappointing. The restaurant has become incredibly "penny-pinching" with their service. I was recently told there would be a $1 charge just for a sprinkle of scallions and another $1 for a small side of clear broth for my dry noodles--requests that were never an issue before. Furthermore, when we ordered extra noodles for my son's beef noodle soup, the original portion seemed intentionally smaller, defeating the purpose of paying for the add-on. Between the degraded service and the "nickel-and-diming" atmosphere, it is no longer worth the 30-minute drive. The vibe has changed, and the pleasure of dining here is gone.
