Authentic Taiwanese fried pork chops just like the one in Taiwan. The fried chops were crispy and well flavored. Right amount of crunch and not dry stall inside. It's what they're famous for in Taiwan so naturally. Wish the portion would be bigger though. The beef noodle soup could've used more flavor and spice but otherwise that portion was actually ample. Popcorn chicken was nice and covered in same spices and flavorings as the pork. Service was nice and courteous even though most of it is done through apps on your phone. Place was designed like a simple cafe but with a lot of overhead foliage. Definitely great for native Chinese and Taiwanese who are used to these kinds of places.
In the Irvine area and in the mood for Taiwanese food, had to come here to try their spicy beef noodle soup and pork chops. Honestly, the popcorn chicken, hit the spot for me, the best I've ever tasted! Customer service was good but some difficulty in communication.
Came by on a Saturday evening, and they were surprisingly not too busy. The interior design is beautiful! They have decorative leaves and vines, and it makes you feel like you are in a nice outdoor space. We were the only customers that evening, and service was quick and attentive. This restaurant has been a staple of Irvine for many years and has been able to survive as it consistently serves authentic Taiwanese food. Taiwanese Pork chop rice bowl (8/10, $16) - The pork chop is extra crispy and remained crispy throughout dinner. I only wish that there was a little more meat. - It comes with sides of rice, broccoli, pickled veggies, and half an egg. - Portion sizes are overall mediocre; you won't leave extremely full, but you will leave satisfied. It is probably not enough to share between two hungry adults. Overall, a staple Irvine restaurant serving authentic Taiwanese food. Great pork chops! It is not particularly cheap, but also not extremely expensive.
Since SF is criminally lacking when it comes to Taiwanese food, pretty much every trip down to OC has to include getting my fix. Typically, that has always included an order of Beef Noodle Soup and/or Braised Pork Rice Bowl (I'm on a never ending mission to find the best of both), but, lately, I've been finding myself craving fried pork chops more and more! So, after randomly coming across Kingchops during my most recent visit, it almost felt like a sign that the world wanted me to come check this place out! From the outside, there may not be much about Kingchops that stands out in any sort of way, but the interior is another story - the decor reminded me so much of some of the eateries/cafes I've been to in Asia. More importantly, though, the menu is pretty interesting. As their name suggests, pork chops are their specialty and offer it as part of several different dishes, but they have so much more to offer. Whether you want something light or heavy, they have a solid selection of classic appetizers, soups, street foods, braised dishes, rice plates, both dry noodles and noodle soups, and dumplings to choose from! -- BRAISED PORK RICE Sadly, this left me feeling super conflicted. On the plus side, the pork was super tender and had a sort of lusciousness to it. On the other, the portion of pork felt light relative to the rice bowl and both some of the pork and the sauce felt rather fatty. -- DRY PORK CHOP NOODLE Ehh...this was fine. Not surprisingly, the pork chop was my favorite part of this dish, as the batter was crispy and the pork was decently juicy. However, while I liked the egg and the noodles, the ground pork was a bit dry and there was a ton of bean sprouts. Even though nothing that we tried impressed us as much as I had hoped, everything was far from awful. A small change here and a tiny tweak there easily could've changed things. Plus, service here is pretty solid, as the workers were friendly and our dishes came out quickly, and the prices are relatively budget friendly, especially for what you get. It's just that, given how it's Irvine, it feels like you don't have to go far to find alternatives that taste the same or better. All in all, I definitely wouldn't mind coming back, especially given how popular Kingchops seems to be and so that I can try a few items in particular, but, in the mean time, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.
Been wanting to try Kingchops and we just happen to be in Irvine to try it for dinner. Parking is relatively easy, but can be difficult with the amount of restaurants and businesses in the plaza. It's a very small restaurant, with limited seating. They've definitely maximized the amount of seating in the place. The wait is relatively quick though. Service is quick friendly. Price is very fair for what you are getting and it's nice. Food wise, definitely get the porkchop rice plate. It's well cooked, seasoned and a good balance with some rice, noodles, veggies, and protein. I would pass on the braised pork rice. The pictures on the menu and on the displays made it look so appetizing, but what came out was just average and not like the pictures. Definitely fell victim to the in-store advertisements. The pork was okay, small portion, but I think it's fair for price. A lot of rice too. The popcorn chicken was also good, good amount of seasoning, well cooked. Portion size was a decent and good snack while you eat. Teas are also good. The black tea in particular is strong and has an herbal grass jelly taste to it, while the green tea is lighter and more refreshing. Good place to eat for a nice casual meal.
Solid Taiwanese establishment! The portions are huge and price is reasonable. Pork chop noodle (10/10). Very authentic Taiwanese style pork chop. Just the right amount of breading and meat thickness! I loved the seasoning. Came with pickled radish. Noodle texture was fantastic (little bit of chew) with a lot of toppings--tasted very Taiwanese! Popcorn chicken (7/10). Honestly was a little disappointed, as it lacked the traditional popcorn chicken seasoning. Looks like the restaurant made their own version, which is still good but does not taste the same. Also a bit on the pricier side Service was excellent! There was only one waiter there, but they did an amazing job taking our orders and checking in on us Decor inside looked very modern and did not look like a Taiwanese pork chop rice place (in a good way!!) Located in a mid-sized shopping area with ample parking. Will definitely visit again!
Came to Kingchops on a Wednesday night craving some porkchop rice. The restaurant is quiet and unassuming, I have never heard of it until I found it on yelp the day we went. The staff was kind but we didn't interact much since the ordering in fully online through your phone. Food was alright, I wish the porkchop came out crispier but the tomato egg really hit the spot. For the price, you get great variety on your plate and it's a really satisfying meal overall.
Good experience overall. Their popcorn chicken rice plate was good and simple. Ordering is super straightforward, scan the QR code on the table, place your order, and choose whether you want to keep a tab open or close out right away, then your food comes out. It's quick and convenient. The setup is efficient and low-pressure.
This is my second time at Kingchops and once again I really enjoyed the food. The large portion of food you get for the price is such a good value! The porkchop is so delicious and I love the vegetable sides it comes with. We ordered the green tea and black tea with our meal and they were the perfect compliment. You order through your phone using the QR code on the table and pay up front. The lady working today was really nice and welcoming. She greeted us immediately with a smile and got us water. Great customer service from her. The ambiance in the store is so so pretty with the vines hanging from the ceiling. I should have taken a picture of it but I actually said wow when I walked inside.
The pork chops are crispy and very tasty. The place hasn't been super busy but there were quite a few takeout orders. Service is self ordering kiosk or QR code ordering at the table. The staff are always very friendly and happy. My daughter and I really enjoyed the pork chops here.
This is a great spot if you just want some Taiwanese food that hits the spot. I got the signature beef noodle and the chicken leg rice. The signature beef noodle came with your classic daikon, pickled mustard flavoring, and the noodle was nice and QQ! The chicken leg rice was nice and crispy without being too oily, and the rice typically comes with the minced pork topping which we opted out for since we didn't eat pork. The rice dish also came with a side of seaweed egg drop soup. Great flavors and great portions! I also got a side of jasmine green tea for only an extra $3! The service was nice and quick, and everyone was very friendly! The tables comes with drawers of utensils so you can get them yourself, and ordering is done through the QR code located at each table. Ambiance was your typical casual dining, and had nice music in the background. Definitely give them a try!
This restaurant probably served one of the best popcorn chicken I've had. Always super crispy and well seasoned. We visited on a Wednesday for lunch and the service was pretty fast and welcoming. This time I got the popcorn chicken and rice and it's super well portioned. I believe the sides are switched up everyday or so. Highly recommend the fried pork chops as well.
Their famous pork chop is HUGE, crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. I got the pork chop rice combo, plus the spicy wontons and braised combination plate. Popcorn chicken and spicy wontons are so good too. This honestly felt like a meal straight out of Taiwan. Will definitely come back for more!
Amazing, authentic Taiwanese fried pork chops in the heart of Irvine ! This unassuming restaurant is located in Irvine Village Center, amongst a variety of other Asian cuisine. The shop is able to accommodate groups of various sizes. Upon entry, you can expect to be seated and served relatively quickly. The menu and ordering system is via a QR code located on the table. I got the pork chop fried rice which is one of their best sellers (and for good reason!) . The pork chops were crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. Alongside the item, there were pickled veggies and a bit of scrambled eggs for a balanced meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get authentic Taiwanese food in the heart of Irvine! read more
Tasty pork chop shop. Their plates are full of a variety of different flavors, but the star of the show was the fried crispy pork chop. The scrambled egg with sweet tomato was super delicious, loved the minced meat over steamed riced, broccoli added some crunch, and there was some sort of pickled radish as a garish. The steam pork dumplings were steamy and juicy. The beef bone soup was good, but nothing super unique. read more

Kingchops Irvine is one of those places where you get there for nostalgia, the place is small but inviting. The decor is simple, and the woman inside just keep moving around making sure you're doing fine while enjoying your food. Service is friendly, and attentive - it also feel very homey. In the early 2000's I do remember some similar cafe in SGV and they are just a delight, these small bowl portions especially the porkchop rice! Well this place is pretty similar, they have your typical pork chop rice with all the fixins, the pork is on the thinner side but it does taste good! Crispy on the outside, and a hint of slight savory sour taste to it. I tried the pork noodle, and it was good as well! It would not be the best experience I had, but the flavor is enough to invite me to come back for more! read more

Service was quick, but we also went when they first opened (5pm crowd). I like that you order off the menu via website. It makes the experience more enjoyable when you can order when you feel ready, but they still checked on us before to ask if we had any questions. The popcorn chicken was good, it had a strong basil flavor too. I am not a fan of wood ear mushroom, so I just left it to the side. Food came out quick as well! The had a cold noodle on the menu that I'd like to try next time as well. The restaurant can get a little noisy, as the volume felt a little high and there were only two parties in there, but it's a casual dining experience so I didn't expect quiet either. read more

I love this Taiwanese restaurant! The food is soo good! I'm used to eating Taiwanese food and this is very authentic! The portions are definitely huge and good for sharing, they have a lot of combo with full meal and drinks with affordable prices! Everything is so spot one! I'm obsessed with the pork chop and popcorn chicken and the beef noodle soup was soo tender and flavorful! The noodles were very chewy and not soggy perfect amount of seasoning for everything! Their drinks are spot on as well! The service here is amazing! They get really busy but the lady that helps us out was very nice and very outgoing! The ambiance is casual and cute. They have a little cute tree with lights and plenty of seating inside. Also have plenty of seating inside. I will definitely comeback here! I'm glad I found this place in Irvine ! I love the pork cutlet and all of its sides. It's juicy and has a good crunch. I got the regular size. Previously, the regular size came with more pork chop and a soup. Maybe they changed their menu since then. Would still recommend. Lots of parking and the interior is very cute and woodsy looking. Service is always very fast read more

Cozy Taiwanese spot for a quick lunch/dinner, with some dishes being better than others. The restaurant is fast-casual, and you are required to scan the QR code for the menu and to order your items. There was one server working at the restaurant, who was very friendly and dropped off our ordered items. Ambiance is so-so, as you can see and hear everyone else in the restaurant. The plates average between $16-18 now, and we ordered popcorn chicken rice, pork chop rice, and pork chop noodle soup. The best item was the popcorn chicken rice, as the popcorn chicken was perfectly fried and had a ton of basil (which i love). The pork chop was tasty, but not the best I've had. The rice dishes came with a side of rice and (tiny bit of minced pork), sauteed cabbage and steamed broccoli. Sides were nothing to write home about. They also came with a seaweed soup starter, which was too salty to finish. The noodle soup was not good, the broth was flavorless, the vegetable was boiled lettuce (?) and noodles were overcooked. For me, the only thing worth coming back for is popcorn chicken or porkchop. read more
We had the braised pork rice bowl, fried pork chop rice, and popcorn chicken. When we went I think we smelled that someone ordered stinky tofu. I honestly don't mind the smell as I like stinky tofu, but it's not for everyone. The braised pork with rice is great, I've always loved braised foods and the Taiwanese version of it hit the spot. Great flavor and a soft bite. The fermented greens goes hand and hand with braised foods. The fry on the pork chop was crunchy and not too oily. It was not dry at all and it paired well with the pickled veggies that it comes with. The popcorn chicken was decent, always love eating the crunchy bits of basil it normally comes with. read more
There are so many better Taiwanese places in the area than Kingchops. We've been here a few times, and I keep hoping it will get better, but it doesn't. The service is non-existent, and you have to do everything yourself. You order via their app and pay via the app, and all they do is bring the food out. And they're always in a rush! It's never really that busy. Plus, the music is super loud here; I don't know why that's necessary. The food leaves much to be desired, as they use the same vegetables for different dishes. For instance, "seasonal vegetables" are just napa cabbage and have always been napa cabbage. Why even say seasonal vegetables? It's so misleading. The popcorn chicken is a decent dish, but it is pretty heavy and does not have flavor. Avoid the beef curry at all costs; the beef is not edible. Bamboo shoots are okay but come with a lot of liquid. I found it overall disappointing and with bad service, it's a hard pass. read more

I ordered the pork chop rice, spicy beef noodle soup and tofu with preserved egg through Uber Eats. The pork chops came in a separate container from the main rice dish which also Included some minced meat, glass noodles, veggies and half a boiled egg. The pork chops flavor was savory and delicious and even better after I stuck it in the air fryer for a few minutes with a pleasant crisp in every bite. The glass noodles was also rather flavorful and enjoyable. The rest of the dish wasn't impressive though. There was only about a spoon of the minced meat on top of the rice and it was rather bland. The veggies were more or less a side of what appears to be boiled cabbage. And also some pickled greens on the rice. Next, the spicy beef noodle soup was a bit of a disappointment. The noodles were a bit overcooked even though it was separated from the soup in another container. I noticed it was already soggy at the bottom as I mixed it into a bowl with the soup. Despite it being called "spicy noodle soup" it was not in the least bit spicy. In fact it tasted a bit sweet with also a possible hint of cinnamon. There was only one piece of what appears to be Daikon in the soup, tiny bits of tendon and a few slices of beef. I also was not a huge fan of 2 large leafy greens, the kind that seems to be best suited for burgers rather than for soups. This noodle soup lacked flavor and spice, not indicative of the typical Taiwanese beef noodle soup one reminesces of. The tofu with preserved egg was a nice way to end the meal. While it was light, the green onions, soysauce and other garnishes really brought out a bold flavor for such a delicate dish. read more
KingChops is the place to get Taiwanese style fried pork chop with rice or noodles. The set meal comes with broccoli, side dish and rice. The cafe is in a small plaza and they have several Taiwanese dishes including stinky tofu! I received a BOGO offer from Fivestars so that was a great deal. read more
I had to come here and try their Crispy Pork Chop. I've been seeing too many pics pop up on my feed and I have been craving it for a while. Their menu seems like it may have a lot of items but it's a variety of starters, soup and rice dishes. I had ordered the Crispy Pork Rice, Cold Cucumbers, Spicy Wonton, and Braised Pork Belly Rice to try out. The verdict on the crispy pork is as I expected, it was delicious and that in itself would probably be the one item I will order again. It doesn't have the super crunch like a fried pork belly but the seasoning was very tasty. The cold cucumbers went so good with everything and even itself as it had a good flavor, and crisp to it. The wontons were nice, spicy and soupy as they should always be. Lastly the Braised Pork was very tender but the best item was the Crispy Pork for sure. The restaurant itself has a nice casual vibe as it's a small family owned restaurant and I'm glad I finally tried it out. read more
Weekday lunch at this Taiwanese cafe that specializes in pork chop rice. The store is aptly named as "king" chop because the pork chop rice is huge. Unless you are sharing, this can take several days to finish. The pork chop is thin and crispy and the rice bowl is loaded with toppings. It makes quite an impression when they bring it out and if you are only seeing it for the first time. There is a bit of a wow factor. Not only does it look good, but it's good tasting also. We also ordered chili wontons, but that took forever to come out. We were finish with our meal and it still had not come out yet. The service is a bit slow so if you are looking for a fast lunch, it might be a gamble here if you have to get somewhere within a timeframe. Parking can get difficult in this center during peak meal times because there are so many stores and restaurants. The dining room has a casual vibe. Came to Kingchops during lunch and we were able to get a table immediately. We ordered two pork chop rices, steamed bamboo, popcorn chicken, spicy wontons, and the pigs ear. Everything was very well balanced in flavor but the stand out for me is the fry. The batter is super thin and has a nice crunch, I would say it isn't necessarily crispy since the pork chop is super juicy but it works!! Because who wants to eat a dry pork chop. My girlfriend and I shared the pork rice and the portion sizes are definitely shareable, we struggled to finish it. The popcorn chicken is really solid and has a thin and crisp fry on it -- the spice level is adjustable but we got mild. It wasn't spicy at all and did provide some extra flavor. The pig ear is on the softer side in texture and it wasn't much to write home about. My favorite bite of the meal was the steamed bamboo. It was packed with flavor and the bamboo melted in every bite. It was honestly addicting and kept going back for more. The spicy wontons were also a standout. The wrapper was very qq, the meat was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and it was bathing in a mala sauce that wasn't too overwhelming. The downside of the wontons were that they came out when we were basically done with our meal. Not sure if it was a fluke but the food was coming out at an odd pace. The restaurant is small and does feel dark because of the black decor. But since they weren't too busy when we were there it didn't feel cramped. Although I can see how it could be squishy during peak times. Overall Kingchops is very solid and will come here if I'm craving Taiwanese Porkchops or just another bite of the delish bamboo! read more

Pork chop was pretty good but nowhere near DTF like someone mentioned. First time there and what seemed to be a promo deal wasn't that impressive. Ordered the business bento special pork chop. It was mainly rice and definitely not a deal. The pork chop was decent but I won't be back. The restaurant didn't have a pleasant smell. The worker guy was cleaning up the table next to us and didn't think about spraying the cleaner the opposite direction where we were sitting. read more

When it comes to reviews, everyone has their thoughts around specifics that drives their conclusion on the establishment. For me, it's service, food, cleanliness, and overall collective experience. Most of the time, I find myself landing comfortably around 4 stars with minor details here and there. For this location, my previous visit warranted them a 5 star award. Food is delicious and well presented. Service, normally at casual Asian restaurants, tend to be lacking. However, Kingchops in Irvine delivered otherwise. Our server, Powr, was attentive to our questions and provided additional guidance far more than some fine dining I've experience. Ambiance was an additional reflection on how other patrons interacted with him. Powr did an amazing job with other tables from my perspective. Our overall experience was nothing less than stellar. I would recommend this place based on the mentions above. Great job and hats off to this establishment. I'm happy that quality resonates across all categories. We've been here twice and ordered the same pork chop rice and Stinky tofu. Delicious... The only thing is missing is that special sauce that they used to either put on the side or drizzle on the pork chop, and That was the magic. Excellent service, nice decor. Restroom is pretty clean.
