The pork comes with soondae, tasted noticeably off. I don't know if it wasn't handled properly or if something was wrong with it
April Q.

I honestly don't understand why this place has so many good reviews. Maybe the free soda for leaving a Yelp review has something to do with it. I ordered Combo #6, which is $30.99. The soup was okay, although the color looked unusually white and a little strange. The soondae itself was good, but the pork that came with it had a very odd smell and taste. It tasted almost sour, or like pork that was starting to go bad. I've tried soondae and pork soup at many different Korean restaurants, and normally the pork has a nice, savory pork flavor. The pork here tasted noticeably off. I don't know if it wasn't handled properly or if something was wrong with it.

Highly recommend! Went here late on a Sunday and found it to be busy but we still got a seat. Food- very delicious high quality soups. We were feeling the stews and got ox tail bone broth which was some of the best we have had. Very deep in flavor. Bon chon was excellent and plentiful. I can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu. Ambiance- nice place for small groups. They could probably accommodate large groups but I think this place is better with a smaller group to fit at most of the tables. Can't wait to come again

The restaurant was packed for a Friday evening which is a lovely sign. The spicy soodae guk was 10/10. They cooked (literally) with the broth and the portions. However, please never get the spicy beef bone with kimchi. It was horrible. It was incredibly sweet and we can tell that there was no attention to this dish despite it being advertised on the wall. The meat on the short rib was not tender and so chewy. Almost like a dog treat. I would come back for soondae guk but would avoid the large dishes.

I met a friend here for dinner and was really glad I did. Once seated they gave us some banchan. We were overwhelmed with their menu because they intestines, live seafood, soups, fresh soondae, and so much other good things. We also couldn't decided if we wanted a combo or not. The waitress helped us decide. We ended up getting a combo of the small and large intestine and a spicy pork belly soup for two people. The intestines were good and I highly recommend it. It comes out in hot stone on top of flames. The spicy pork belly soup was my favorite though. It came with some rice and was very flavorful and comforting. We got some soju as well and had a great meal. I would love to come back and try their fresh octopus and seafood. The inside is very casual. We had a early dinner and it got very busy once we were done and leaving. I cannot wait to come back.

FREE PARKING Little plaza with free parking SERVICE Excellent service, quick to get seated, friendly! INSIDE Clean tables and bathroom! FOOD Delicious! Came here for a late night grub on a weekday and the seafood pancake was the best one I've ever had, FILLED with seafood, shrimp, and shredded crabmeat. Perfectly crispy but chewy inside with nice pinch of salt. BANCHAN Love me lots of Banchan - kimchi, radish, salted leeks, onions with bean paste. PORK BELLY got the small size and it was perfect for 2 people, came with fresh cabbage and a hearty thin slice of pumpkin. OVERALL Def come and try their amazing seafood pancake, hearty soups, and much more. They had combo deals and so much on their menu to try!

I really wanted to like this place esp because I was looking for my go-to spot to satisfy my intestines craving. Unfortunately this place missed the mark and made me realize that I'm okay with doing the drive to Buena Park for intestines going forward. The servers were nice.. and the food came out quickly, and the intestines were good but wow.. this place is very overpriced for what you get. The side dishes were just sad. It was just a few kimchi dishes, raw onions and chives. I've had places that give way better variety. Along with that the intestines were just intestines with garlic and chives and came with a dipping sauce. It didn't come with any other sides of veggies to wrap or eat the intestines with. No steamed egg.. no soup.. Portions weren't big either. We ordered the cold noodles and that didnt taste particularly great either. It was mediocre. The packaged ones at the market that I make at home are better. A bummer that I don't plan on being back due to all of this. Hoping they make some upgrades in the future to justify their prices.

Came here for a family dinner on a Friday night, and we were lucky enough to get seated right away! By the time we left around 7:30 PM, there was already a wait, so I'd definitely recommend coming a little earlier if you don't want to wait. For our family of four, we ordered three dishes to share: Medium Steamed Pork BellySpicy Beef Rib Stew with KimchiSpicy Cold Noodles Everything we ordered was really tasty! The steamed pork belly was probably my favorite. When it first came out, I thought it looked a little plain and bland, but I was completely wrong. The pork was flavorful, tender, and had more taste than I expected. We ordered the medium size, and it was a good portion for the four of us to share. The spicy beef rib stew with kimchi was HUGE! There was a generous amount of beef, and the stew was comforting and flavorful. It was a little sweeter than I expected, but still really good. Definitely a dish that is great for sharing, especially with a bowl of rice. The spicy cold noodles were such a refreshing contrast to the other dishes. They were cold, tangy, spicy, and perfect for cleansing the palate between bites of the richer pork and beef dishes. I especially enjoyed these because they weren't too heavy. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner here. The portions were generous, everything came out tasty, and it felt like a great place for a casual family meal. We would definitely come back, especially for the steamed pork belly and spicy cold noodles.

The cold noodles were so refreshing, but I like the spicy ones a little more. The spicy version wasn't too spicy, just the perfect level for me since I can't handle a lot of spice. The deep fried dumplings were delicious. The soondae was also really good and didn't have any gamey taste like other ones i've had before. There's a good amount of seating inside, and the service was friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

Three and a half stars if Yelp allowed such a thing. Three feels a little mean. Four feels a little generous. Welcome to the tyranny of whole numbers. Moobongri is one of those restaurants where the meal never quite settled into a single opinion for me. Some of it was excellent. Some of it was merely there. A few things actively fought back. Start with the galbitang, because that's the reason I'd come back. This was terrific. The broth had real depth without being assaulted by salt, which is harder to get right than people think. The beef short rib was beautifully cooked, tender enough to pull apart without surrendering completely into mush and they give you the scissors and tools to get in there properly. On a cold day, a bad day or one of those days when you just want somebody to put an enormous bowl of beef and broth in front of you and leave you alone, I would happily order this again. The rest of the meal was considerably less disciplined. The soondae itself had moments where I understood exactly why this place has a following. Rich, savory, deeply satisfying. Then I'd get another piece where the casing gathered up as I chewed until I was left negotiating with something resembling a very determined rubber band. Same problem with the squid in the cold noodles. Great flavor, initially pleasant chew and then eventually you're still chewing while everyone else at the table has moved on with their lives. The soondae-guk had a good broth underneath it all, but our mix of organ meats was intensely gamey. I like offal. I don't need it disguised as something else. But there's a point where funk starts taking over the room and this crossed it for me. The cold noodles themselves were very good. Spicy, refreshing, plenty going on and I'd probably order them again despite the squid. The banchan was more uneven. The napa kimchi was fine, although it tasted a little tired. The kkakdugi was extraordinarily salty. Not "Korean food has seasoning" salty. Salty enough that I stopped eating it. The onions were similarly inconsistent. Some crisp and exactly what you want between bites of all that meat, others looking and tasting as though they'd been sitting around waiting for us. Rice was rice. It arrived. It performed its contractual obligations. Service didn't help the overall impression. Early on we asked for a few additional bowls and got a reaction from one of the servers that felt unnecessarily irritated. I actually asked my wife afterward if I'd misread it. She's Korean, I'm not. Apparently I hadn't. Nothing catastrophic happened and nobody ruined our meal, but hospitality is often made out of very small gestures and so is the absence of it. The room itself is lively and can get loud. That doesn't bother me much at a Korean soup restaurant. I wasn't expecting a monastery, but between that and the uneven service, this isn't somewhere I'd come for serenity. And yet, that galbitang. That's the irritating thing about Moobongri. There was enough inconsistency here that I can't give the whole experience four stars, but there was enough good cooking that I already know I'd come back. Next time I'd order more selectively, get the galbitang, give the soondae another shot and see whether we simply caught a few things on an off day. Sometimes three stars means mediocre. This isn't that. This is three stars because somewhere inside an uneven meal was a very good restaurant trying to get out.

Super authentic Korean restaurant. Great service and a good little spot to enjoy a meal and a few bottle of soju with your friends. So many dishes i wanted to try but we got a good selection when we were there. Would come again.

What an amazing Korean hidden gem in Irvine! The food was authentic, savory and delicious. I felt like the food was cooked by a family member. My favorites were the steamed pork and seafood pancake. The staff were friendly and attentive. The ambiance is casual and comfortable. They do have limited tables so come early before the crowd gets here. Highly recommended!

Great soondaeguk, and the banchan hit the mark -- all were well seasoned with variety in flavours (the default spice in kimchi was nice and crunchy, some nutty sesame oil salted chives, and refreshing onion bites). I do wish they had the option for some purple rice, I suppose it makes me feel more healthy/korean lol.

Love that this place is open late ~ arrived at 11pm for a late night bite. Seafood pancake and pork belly soup was 5/5. So hearty and warm and so flavorful! You can salt the pork soup to your liking. The spicy beef and veggie soup was 3/5. Not bad but would skip next time. Felt like it was too overloaded with veggies/bean sprouts. Banchan was really fresh.

We ordered the mapo tofu with beef, kung pao chicken, and the dongpo pork belly with preserved vegetables. I was impressed with the authentic flavors and quality. The pork belly melts in your mouth exactly as it should. Mapo tofu delivered the ideal mala (numbing and spicy) kick that wasn't overly spicy. As for the kung pao chicken, at first I thought the peanuts seemed a bit underdone but the flavor was so aromatic. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion size. Would try more dishes next time. Here's what we ordered and how I'd rate each dish: Meizhou Roasted Duck (东坡烤鸭) -- 7/10: The presentation was nice, especially with the tableside carving, but I've definitely had better Peking duck elsewhere. Wok-Fried String Beans (干煸四季豆) -- 8/10: One of my favorites! Well-seasoned, flavorful, and a great vegetable dish to balance out the meal. Garlic Steamed Scallops over Vermicelli (蒜蓉粉丝蒸元贝) -- 8/10: Another favorite. Loved the combination of garlic, scallops, and vermicelli. Definitely worth ordering. Meizhou Pork Buns (眉州包子) -- 7/10: Pretty good, but nothing particularly memorable. Classic Dongpo Pork (一品东坡肉) -- 6/10: Probably my least favorite dish of the meal. It was okay, but didn't really stand out compared to everything else. Serrano Pepper Beef (鲜椒肥牛) -- 8/10: One of the better dishes we ordered. Flavorful with a nice kick from the peppers. Cabbage Soup (白菜汤) -- 7/10: Don't think they serve this anymore but it was a simple, comforting soup that was nice to have alongside the heavier dishes.

We tried the signature garlic noodles, katsu chicken, and kimchi slaw. And a Thai Iced Tea. Respond to every yelp review - even the negatives - and be pleasant and thankful for the feedback even if they are unreasonably negative....this is an opportunity for management to be seen and heard. It gives a positive personality to an otherwise cold and neutral website. Expand on the "about" section of website and make comment on preparation....no seed oils, organic produce whenever possible, sourcing of chicken and pork, etc. People want to see that you're paying attention to healthy preparation and sourcing. Try "Poached Kitchen" across the street...look at their sourcing and labels of condiments. It's a challenge - this location is surrounded with apartments and hotels....you have a large potential audience but do they know you're here? How much would you give in incentives to have them try you once? My reviews on YELP typically draw hundreds of views within 2-3 days. We'll see.

As for the vibe... it's definitely a bit dated. Honestly, it feels like it has stayed exactly the same since the very first time we walked through the doors years ago. You should also be warned that the AC never quite feels like it's "fully on," so it can get a little warm.
