This place is slow, unfriendly, and barely gets the orders correct. Orders are placed in cardboard boxes which I'm wondering how often get replaced or ever sanitized. Rest of the place looks pretty clean. I wouldn't get food here though. read more

I love King Shing! It's the best Chinese food out there. I love coming here every week, since it's so fast and it's delicious! I always get the Sweet and Sour Chicken with Fried Rice and it's always yummy. I would recommend takeout though, since it's a small shop. read more

A fantastic local Chinese food place, it doesn't look like much, and there isn't much in the seating department (a handful of tables that book up around dinner time). But the food is perfect. Some have stated this is your 'typical Chinese takeout place' but I would disagree, they actually have adequate seating if you want to eat in (and are lucky enough to grab a table). There is water and hot tea available for consumption and you can grab it yourself (I am a fan of good brewed hot tea). One of my all-time favorites here is the Spicy Garlic Green Beans. BEST GENERALS CHICKEN/ORANGE CHICKEN I'VE EVER HAD. I hate to admit this, but I once had completely given up on Generals chicken due to the un-invited surprises that I would get for the "chicken" in the Generals chicken. You all know what I'm talking about, you may better know it as mystery meat (cue the dark and creepy music). The one dish that I felt I never would get sick of, and would always come back to, let me down so bad, that I literally quit eating it because the quality of the chicken, despite where I went, was so grotesque. I once pondered, I love Buffalo Wild Wings' Asian Zing wings so much, why don't I just order fried rice and an egg roll and call it good? Well, I never tried that, because my wallet wouldn't be too happy with me; so I continued my abstinence from Generals chicken. Until one fateful and glorious day I chose to throw a Hail Mary, and go check out this place I've only driven by, called King Shing, and try their Generals chicken; one of the best culinary decisions I've ever made. THEIR CHICKEN FOR GENERALS CHICKEN IS ALL WHITE MEAT! This is the dish I had been longing for for so long. No more mystery meat (yippee!) This is by far the closest I will ever get to my fantasy of eating Asian Zing BDubs wings with fried rice, and I don't feel like I'm making that much of a compromise. Incredibly rude staff. I have been a weekly customer for their cheap chinese for years. After today's experience I will NEVER return. From the moment I placed my order via phone to the time I picked it up, there was nothing but rudeness. She was even rude to another customer in front of me. At that point I felt compelled to say something about it, stating that she is acting a bit rude and short with her customers. I said, "don't you care about your customers? I come every single week." She said, "no, not you! You go! You never come back. You not welcome." I along with everyone sitting in the small creepy space were floored by her comments. Don't worry.....I won't be back. How have I gone 10 years in AA and not known about King Shing?! I am one of those people who rarely eats Chinese food in Ann Arbor, much less the state of Michigan. I've been spoiled by the homemade Chinese food that I get from my boyfriend's mother when I visit them in California, and it's hard to eat sub-par Chinese food once you've had hers. I've eaten at Saigon Garden, Szechuan West, Great Lakes, Asian Legend, TK Wu, Dinersty, Middle Kingdom, Kai Garden, Lucky Kitchen, Chia Shiang, and China Gate. I'm pretty sure I'm missing a couple of delivery places. It's been years since I've ordered from any of them, and obviously, they weren't so memorable. BUT King Shing! King Shing is the Chinese restaurant in Ann Arbor that has eluded me all these years. It's probably eluded you, too. King Shing has HUGE portions of food made w/ very fresh (clearly not frozen or canned--with the exception of the baby corn and water chestnuts) vegetables/ingredients. I ordered a tofu dish when I went, but my friends ordered dishes containing chicken, beef, and shrimp, none of which were reminiscent of mystery meat. The shrimp was large, looked like it was not from a frozen bag, and was deveined which makes a big difference in my book. The chicken came in huge pieces of white meat, and the beef came in sizeable pieces that weren't all fat. I ordered the tofu pad thai and got enough for 3 meals out of it. I also ordered the hot & sour soup which was delicious! It was a great consistency and just the right spiciness where it wasn't overly spicy and had some nice sourness to it. You could easily add some pepper to get it to your preferred level of spiciness, but I think the soup was great as is. There was also no pork pieces in it, which I prefer because pork frequently freaks me out if it's not in bacon form. King Shing delivers, and whereas other restaurants will make you buy $15 to $20 worth of food to deliver, King Shing requires you to spend $8 only. The lunch combos are never more than $4.75 each, come with an eggroll and fried rice, and are large enough to have leftovers to eat dinner, too. If you want dessert, why not order 5 almond cookies (not homemade though) for $1. It's a steal! Had I known about King Shing prior to a couple of days ago, I would have eaten my fair share of it over the last several years. This is definitely the ONLY place in Ann Arbor that I would get Chinese food from. read more

Not bad at all! I typically never go to American Chinese restaurants but I was craving almond boneless chicken and this place really hit the spot! The portion is just right and I actually had left overs of pork fried rice for dinner. The chicken was cooked just right and what I loved was the gravy. It had a hint of almond flavor so it was very different and delish. The pork fried rice was flavored so well that I am still craving how good it was after 3 days! I come here far more than I care to admit. But sometimes, there is nothing that undoes a long work day like greasy take-out Chinese food, and King Shing always hits the spot. Somehow, their takeout seems to stay hot longer than usual Chinese and the ingredients taste fresh. Prices are fantastic for the quality. Portions are huge. When you make the decision to go out for a meal, know what you're hoping to find. That's key with many of the Chinese restaurants in the area. If you're looking for authentic, traditional cuisine you'll be disappointed, but if you're looking for delicious Americanized fare - you've hit the jackpot. King Shing is a diamond in the rough. Located in a tiny strip mall on one of the worst stretches of asphalt in Washtenaw county, to call it's plain and dowdy facade unassuming would be a huge understatement. The interior is practically industrial, though there are two endearing fish tanks that amuse me while waiting for my take-out. As others have noted, the General's chicken is fantastic. Another tip from me: if there's a dish on the menu listed as garlic ginger, try it. Very tasty with whatever protein you prefer. Some other favorites: - boneless ribs - deluxe lo mein - almond boneless chicken - beef fried rice The portions are generous and I can expect at least a meal and a half out of an order. In terms of service, I guess it all depends on your sense of humor. The employees know their regulars and some truly hilarious exchanges have occurred as a result. I personally enjoy the dynamic but others may not. And most visits are pretty non-descript in the character column. Bottom line: if you want authentic, try Chia Shiang or Evergreen's Traditional Menu. If you want some yummy, Americanized Chinese food - this is your place. read more

Chinese food comes in two categories for me, and ordering the Mapo Tofu usually makes it pretty obvious which you're dealing with. Category 1) Authentic, high quality food. I'm not Chinese by any stretch, nor have I been to China, so take this with a grain of salt. But I've been to a few restaurants that Chinese friends swore by, and said they were "more authentic." I prefer these, but can't find many locally. Category 2) Americanized. This is what King Shing belongs to, but that's not necessarily a terrible thing when it's what you want. Here, you'll get dishes with large portions, lots of gravy/sauce, and inexpensive prices. King Shing excels at all this. Reasonable Americanized Chinese food; better than most I've had in Ann Arbor, but a far cry from my east or west coast favorites. The food's close to the stuff I grew up on, but some dishes are a bit lackluster. Ambiance is focused on takeout, with some basic chairs and tables for dine-in but no comfy booths or bamboo wall hangings. The hot and sour soup was great --- not too spicy on the tongue, but lots of burn on the throat; neat trick, that. The General's chicken is very tender and juicy white meat; I usually prefer dark meat, but this worked just fine. The sauteed green beans were a bit bland and soft by comparison to the other two dishes. The service was just fine --- a friendly if slightly flustered younger woman, and a fairly sour older woman, perhaps the owner. Tea's in a carafe on the counter, next to a stack of styrofoam cups. Water's in a Gatorade-style jug. So far, this is my pick if I'm already in the vicinity --- but not worth a dedicated trip across town. read more

I've been hunting for good Chinese food in my neck of the woods for a few years now. I avoided King Shing only because it was across from another Chinese restaurant that I'm not a fan of, so I very rarely even thought to come this way. Finally, after a co-worker's recommendation, I called King Shing for a take out order. I could not have been happier with the overall experience. Since then I've been here a few more times. and I can recommend King Shing on a number of levels. First of all, the timing here is right on. If they tell you it'll be 15 minutes, you can almost perfectly time it to be that time. The food here is very fresh, with ingredients that are not of the "mystery vegetable" variety that many other Chinese restaurants fall back on. The Sesame and General Tso chicken dishes are easy recommendations, as are the various lo meins and fried rices. The pork with mushrooms is quite tasty, and the hot and sour soup is a total winner. I'd never say it's the best Chinese food I've ever had, but King Shing is reliable, well-timed, and very tasty. An easy winner. read more

King Shing is consistently the best Ann Arbor Chinese carry out/delivery restaurant I've found. I've tried many but King Shing consistently tastes the best and is very reasonably priced. I usually order home style bean curd, vegetable egg rolls and vegetable egg foo young, all of which are good. Sometimes I also get the sesame tofu, which is also good. According to the reviews, others have run into some customer service problems, but the staff here have never been anything but courteous to me. Also, delivery is usually pretty quick. I'm glad we found this place, and that is thanks to Yelp. King Shing has good food for a good price. It's not a nice sit-down restaurant, but for informal dining (and delivery/take-out), it's great. The food is hot and good. I got egg drop soup--a giant portion, a delicious soup. The vegetable egg roll was just okay. The orange chicken was GREAT. More garlicky than I'm used to, but I liked that. And the meat was GOOD quality. Each time I ate a piece of chicken I noted what good chicken it was. Also a big portion. All of this for an appealing price. All the regulars are also here--duck sauce, spicy mustard, tea, fortune cookies, etc. Seems like a reliable place to get good, fast Chinese food. Why not 5 stars? It didn't blow me away.
