Very traditional authentic Chinese food from the Beijing region! A very nice family owned restaurant with a long of carb options like noodles and dumplings. I was super excited to eat some good homecooking. All their noodles and dumpling skins are hand rolled and fresh made. It's more doughy and chewy than store bought pre-made wrappers. The filling for the dumplings were good, we liked the pork onions a little more than the lamb cilantro cause lamb was a bit gamey but if you like the lamb flavor, it's rich. My favorite dish was the cumin lamb slices. It's unique from others I've had as it is covered with seasoning like a breading and fried. Very good. Lots of onions scallions and peppers along with it. The triple delight was amazing too. It comes with fried egpplant, potatoes and scallions. It's a bit on the oily side so you need to eat it with rice. The braised beef noodle soup was a hefty portion. Beef was tender. Soup broth was a little bland but still very tasty. Our pigs ear appetizer came out last cause our server forgot but it was very crunchy and had great mala flavor. Not spicy though. Service was very fast and friendly. read more

As their name suggests, Yee Siang's best dishes are their dumplings. We got a huge order for takeout and the dumplings were the stand-out, especially their pork and dill dumplings. The pepper beef was pretty good as well. Otherwise, we were sadly a bit underwhelmed. The dishes that were meant to be spicy were just not, like the general tso's chicken and their chili oil. Their crab rangoons were fine, but there are better in the area. On the bright side, the portion sizes are pretty great for the price. It's not my favorite Chinese spot in town, but with how good the dumplings are, it's likely that we'll come back. read more

We knew that our daughters had liked an Asian place along Washtenaw in Ypsilanti but we couldn't remember the name. When we saw this place we thought we had figured it out. unfortunately, we guessed wrong. We walked in and it was at least 3 minutes before we saw any sign of a human being - very odd! The decor is fine, but looks like it has gone unchanged for several decades. We decided to try a variety of things on the menu that we like at similar establishments - crab wontons, fried rice, bao buns and dumplings. Overall, they were decent, but nothing special, and generally a little bland. Pork bao buns usually have BBQ pork, but these do not. In fact, the pork seemed like it was a little undercooked. Yee Siang has gone downhill in the last six months. I had lunch at Yee Siang with a friend visiting from out of town in December 2021. We had the cumin lamb, dumplings, and two pork belly dishes. All were delicious and the portions were huge. Service was friendly and any leftovers were carefully packed for us so that nothing would spill. I told my mother about Yee Siang and how we should try it because it is a challenge to find authentic Chinese food in these parts. Fast forward to July 2022. I ordered takeout from Yee Siang - dumplings and the same pork belly dishes I ordered previously. Firstly, the woman taking orders was extremely rude. Not just to me but to the several other people waiting to order to pick up their orders. This was in stark contrast to the friendly waitress in December 2021. I handed a man who came in after me a menu and opened the door for a woman who was carrying a large order. I was essentially doing her job. No assistance from the woman behind the counter even though the restaurant was not particularly busy. I was disappointed upon opening the contents of my order. No plastic ware or napkins were included. The portions have decreased significantly. The pork belly dish was tough. I recommend getting the twice-cooked pork instead. At least the slices are smaller and more tender, but there wasn't as much meat in that dish as I remembered. Yee Siang is still a decent choice in the Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor area, but not as good as it was last year. It will be a long while until I return. read more

The interior of this place needs cleaned. We only stopped here because the dim sum place was closed. We thought that they served dumplings that were close to dim sum type ones. The dumplings were bland and mushy. They were boiled instead of steamed or pan fried. We ordered won ton soup and that was ok. The fried shrimp was good and crispy. Good food if you can get it. Last night I wanted to zest up my ramen so I ordered the beef shank and pig's ear. Both are traditional northern dishes served cold. Both were tasty and well seasoned. The later is not for the faint of heart as it is also smothered in chili oil. However, it is all about the texture from the cartilage. The beef was a little salty but perfect for my broth. The server told me the menu was online. The next day I wanted to try more of their dishes, but became frustrated with my experience. There is no sit-down service, so I tried to place an order online and over the phone. Both proved unsuccessful as the online app malfunctioned, and after trying to place an order over the phone for five minutes of discussion, I gave up. Understated, small restaurant. Authentic Chinese dumplings. Highly recommend the Beef and Dill dumplings. The smallest dumpling amount you can order is 10. It would be nice to have a smaller option. Drizzle the vinegar-soy sauce and chili oil on your dumplings. The chili oil is mild, not too spicy. One woman is typically your server. If it is busy, there can be slight delays but she hustles and is very nice. The interior is outdated but the food is great so if aesthetics don't bother you, definitely worth a try! I also recommend the scallion pancakes and Pork Buns. In the winter it tends to be cold in the restaurant so bring a sweater. Most people order ahead and pick up their order to-go. My boyfriend and I used to eat at the restaurant all the time. Earlier today, we just got back from FL and decided to have our dinner at Yee Siang. As I mentioned, I used to visit there all the time before the pandemic, so I pretty much ate everything on their menu and knew what the dishes looked like. I ordered 4 entrees from their authentic Chinese menu and expected to get the same quality food as my previous visits. But no, I didn't. The taste of my ordered food was so bad. The chicken and mushroom itself had no flavor, and not to mention the broth was burned and overcooked. The soup they made looked like a stew, too salty because of its lack of broth inside. Oh, didn't I mention we waited for over 30mins for that crappy food? We called their manager and asked to replace our dishes. They didn't feel sorry at all and said:" No, our taste and food quality remain consistent over these years. If you are looking for high-quality Chinese food, don't eat at our restaurant; find somewhere else. If you don't like the taste, that's your problem. Why didn't any other customers complain to us? You should pay your bill now and leave." This is how they treat their customers and the mistakes they make. We paid $83 for this meal and tipped the waitress an additional $10 because she had nothing to do with this. Horrible experience, definitely will not go back in the future. read more

I used to come here a lot with my friends pre-COVID when we craved Chinese food, particularly dumplings. Overall, this place is a hit for craving satisfaction and probably my go-to Chinese restaurant in the area. It's not amazing by any means, but my favorite in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. The following are my go-to entrees that I would family style with one other friend (about $12 after tip and tax): * Garlic Green Beans - Probably the best in the area. Most of the time, it's a hit. It's crunchy, salty, and garlicky. A great mix of oil and great flavors combine. You think you're being healthy because you're eating vegetables but deep down you know it's not true because it's been deep fried to get that perfect crunch. But it tastes amazing and who cares? Lol. However, it's been a miss before, where the green beans were soggy or impossible to chew properly because it's way too old. It's not a miss too often, though. * Pork & Cabbage Dumplings - I love these! Especially when they just made it fresh. Dumpling meat is flavored really well and my personal preference is boiled dumplings (contradicts most people's preference of pan-fried) but I love that it gets it a more soupy feel. I've had a few instances where a dumpling or two would be severely undercooked (basically raw), but every time I've told the server, they'd take it off my bill and give us a new batch. As struggling college students, my friends and I did not care. We welcomed more delicious dumplings for free any time and would pray that we wouldn't get food poisoned. My friends and I usually get the "large" size (comes with 18, but they always give us 20, lol). Overall, not amazing, but solid choice for some dumpling cravings. Relatively cheap, too. With such high hopes but with a heavy heart, I am saddened to report that this restaurant is a NO for me. As a self-proclaimed Guru of the Fun Noodle, I was looking for decent Cantonese food in the Ann Arbor region; Yelp recommended Yee Siang Dumplings and after reviewing hundreds of positive reviews, I am beyond disappointed! My order consisted of: Beef Ho Fun and Chicken Triple Dumplings (Pan-Fried). I was super unimpressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant especially since they are takeout only right now; moreover, the service was less than pleasant. The Beef Ho Fun was completely absent of flavor; from the overcooked beef to the mushy noodles - so sad! The main pull for this restaurant was the Dumplings and they were mediocre at best, no dipping sauce was provided and had I not ordered Chili Oil, it would have been a totally Flavorless Meal. It was dinnertime, and I needed something new to break out of a food rut. Not interested in anything in my fridge, or in my pantry (PB&J anyone?), I decided to pull up the Yelp app and look for restaurants. When Yee Siang came up with 4.5 aggregate stars and some enticing-looking photos, I knew exactly where I wanted to eat. The restaurant is small but cozy, and satisfied-looking diners happily munched away with the help of chopsticks. I seated myself in a corner booth and waited for my server to come. Once she did, I ordered an egg roll and the dumpling soup. Sadly, they were out of the dumpling soup on my visit, so I went with the spicy beef noodle soup. A short time later, my egg roll arrived, followed quickly by the spicy beef soup. I tucked right in, enjoying the crunch of the egg roll wrapping, and the savory flavors. The spicy beef soup had some kick to it, but not so overpowering that I couldn't appreciate the subtle flavors to it as well. The noodles were soft without being mushy and added nicely to the dish. Dumplings and veggies mix are just like normal Chinese family-style dishes. 4stars. Chicken stew not very good, 2 star. The chicken was not processed well, hard to chew and having a weird smell. Props to this mom and pop shop, doing Chinese food right in Ypsi/A2! Tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago and have to say I'm impressed by the flavors, value and service. Will definitely be coming back next time. We ordered : pork and chive dumplings, a cold mung bean noodle and pickle cucumber salad, chicken sautéed w/eggplant over rice (donburi), beef chow fun (sautéed beef w/ wide rice noodles). Everything was tasty and flavors were authentic. Prices were reasonable and serving sizes generous. Having gotten there only 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday, though we ordered only 20ish minutes before closing the food came fresh and fast, the staff kindly told us to stay as long as we needed, though to be fair to them we left fairly soon afterwards. read more

So...I came here with my crazy-ass siblings a few weekends ago...and we just got our Dumpling Eat'en on! We had, and I S*&T you not...I believe 8 dozen different dumplings between the 5 of us...and then we went to a donut show in Ypsy afterwards....but that's for another review. Yee Siang is truly a little nugget as we like to say (and overuse). I couldn't believe it. It sits actually, between A2 and Ypsy off of Washtenaw and so, it's very easy to get to. The place is small, but warm...fills up fast with lots locals...obviously of whom are already in the "know". We had some onion pancakes which were also pretty good...but the dumplings stole the show. Many to choose from...so, if you're a true dumpling lover...and close by...just go. You won't be disappointed. read more

My daughter and I had a trip here, and she absolutely loved it! The young lady who took my order forgot the pork buns she ordered, but she apologized and quickly made a batch for her. The food was fresh and delicious, and my daughter was already wanting to go back again sometime in the near future. The only things I didn't like were that there is sticky plastic tablecloths on the table, and they only gave us about 4 of these tiny paper napkins. The inside of the restaurant is bright and welcoming. I can't say the same for the area surrounding it, but don't let it turn you away from trying this place. We'll be back for sure. This is my first visit to this establishment I did have a little difficulty finding it. The sign is not very prominent , so just be aware it is right next to los amigos Mexican restaurant on the south side of Washtenaw. Once I found it, I discovered that it was very clean inside. I had a carry out order so I can not address how the service is. I placed my order online which was very simple to do and it was ready at the time promised. I had the crab rangoon appetizer. They were crispy and there were six in an order. I have read other reviews that said there wasn't much crab inside, but I thought it was pretty much what you would expect. I also had the beef and onion dumplings, I ordered them panfried. You can see in the picture they were quite well cooked on one side and soft on the other. There was not a lot of filling in them, I thought they were OK but nothing extraordinary. I also ordered the pork belly entrée with noodles. But it also came with a side of rice. The sauce that it was in was very good, I found the park to be a little bit fatty. The noodles however, were fabulous. I thought that it was moderately priced. Scrumptious dumplings. The pork triple delight (pork, shrimp, Chinese chive) did just that. I got them pan fried. All components were on point, from the perfect thickness of wrapper to the juicy, savory generously portioned filling which satisfied your pork and shrimp cravings in a two-in-one punch reminiscent of a high-quality dim sum house shumai. We also got vegetable fried rice, which came very densely packed in a large takeout container and had a fantastic curry flavor that put it above the large majority of fried rices that I've had in the past. The only knock against Yee Siang was the mushroom and cabbage dumpling, which tasted overpoweringly of tarragon. Just about 30 dumplings and an order of fried rice ran us around $30 and gave us three large meals worth of food. For quality and good value, this dumpling house is hard to beat. read more

The food is bad. I am not talk about it for the flavor, this is a problematic restaurant that I am calling the health department to check it out. Problem1:The dumplings, which is their specialty does not taste right, and you can tell the ingredients they use when they made the dumplings were not fresh that they put so much five spice and soy sauce to cover up but you can still tell the difference. Also the kitchen taste our dumpling and then insist saying it's good and REFUSE to do anything about it. Problem 2: the restroom is disgusting. Problem 3: the beef shank is still frozen when it was served, overcooked, super salty. Other dishes are ok, not authentic but edible. But you will be surprised how NOT FRESH they are. I would have to say it was definitely my Worst ever dining experience ever in my 30 Plus years life. I am wondering why it got so many reviews. Had reunion with old friends and met up at Yee Siang. It wasn't busy, got seated and reviewed the menu while I waited for others to join. Once everyone got there, we went with the following items: - Pork and Chives Dumplings - Pork Triple Delight Dumplings - String Beans - Yuxiang Shredded Pork - Salt & Pepper Jumbo Shrimp Everything that we ordered were ok, there were few things that I think they can do better. - String Beans, while the garlic aroma from this dish was awesome, it was too salty. - Salt & Pepper Jumbo Shrimp - their version was different then what I expected based ordering this dish from other restaurants, which was perfectly fine. The two issues I had with this dish - 1) not enough salt & pepper in the dish and 2) the shrimp was overcooked. - Yuxiang Shredded Pork - sliced pork stir fried with veggies, served over a bed of rice. Two things I would improve about this dish 1) the temperature of the dish, it came out lukewarm and 2) taste, it was on the bland side. Rice - the bowl of rice I got had hardened rice mixed in the bowl, so be careful. While the service was a lot better on this visit, the temperature inside was awful, the AC was not on and inside felt like a sauna. I'll leave the rating at 2 stars for now. read more

We ordered 3 different things that all came out at least 10 minutes apart. The food wasn't bad. When I started eating my beef ho fun however, I found a circular sheet of plastic in the middle of my dish. It was about the size of my hand. I truly don't understand how it could have been in there by accident.
