Three of us got take out. One chose egg foo yung, another opted for the garlic shrimp and I the pictured almond chicken. We all enjoyed the main course and egg rolls. The almond chicken was crispy coated and moist on the inside. Also had the fried rice with shrimp as a side and would order again. The amount of food was gigantic. I have had China Gold twice, and have been happy with both meals. I got the Pork Egg Foo Young, with an egg roll, and some pot stickers that I shared with my husband. The Pork Egg Foo Young was a bit bland, but adding salt improved the dish. I thought the egg roll was great! I wouldn't order the pot stickers again. They just weren't very good. I tried a bite of my husband's Chicken with Garlic Sauce, and wasn't blown away, neither was he. On our second visit, I got the General Tso's Chicken, which was really good, as was my husband's Almond Chicken. The fried rice that accompanied both dishes was delicious as well. Eh...I want to like this place because the owners are so cool and friendly. They have lots of options. It's definitely not bad food!! I mean you get a ton of food for what you pay for. I ate it all in one sitting, lol. But it's still fake chinese food for American palettes. Sometimes that can be good though! I've been enjoying China Gold's takeout for well over a decade. I should say I've been enjoying their Chicken Egg Foo Yung lunch combo (around $5) for over a decade, since that is all I've ever gotten there! It tastes the same now as it did Day 1...why ruin a great thing? Lunch combos include a hefty portion of fried rice and an egg roll. The lunch EFY has two patties. Yep, a lot of food for not a lot of $. Speaking of money, I'm pretty sure they're still cash only. The may take debit cards, but I don't have one...so cash only for Liz. The other night my wife and I picked up entree portions of kung pao chicken and szechuan beef, and from these we got dinner, lunch the next day, and lunch for my wife today. All this for a little over $16 out the door. But you get what you pay for, and the quantity of the food didn't make up for what it lacked in quality. The meat in the dishes was very tender, though the vegetables came in large, tough pieces that were a challenge to eat with only a plastic fork. The sauce didn't have much flavor beyond sugar and the generic soy-ginger-garlic tang of food from most run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurants (and really not much of that). Medium spicy was very spicy-I have pretty good tolerance for heat, but if I came back here I'd go with mild. But, odds are I won't go back. read more

Meh. This is where my hubby used to always get his Chinese carry-out. It's okay, but I could always think of something I'd like better. Once I mentioned this to him, he admitted that he usually just picked it up because it was close. For something quick, we'll still sometimes split the Sesame Chicken and get an extra egg roll so we'll each have one. I'll admit, I judge a Chinese restaurant on two items - the fried rice and the egg-roll. This place delivers on both. I don't like white rice. I especially don't like it when you aren't able to substitute (or have to pay extra for) fried rice instead of white rice. At China Gold, not only is fried rice the standard....it comes with Chicken fried rice! Nice! As for egg-rolls, I prefer those made with bean sprouts (vs. cabbage), which is what China Gold offers. Our standby dishes are the Sweet & Sour Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, and Sesame Chicken. All are consistently good. The Wonton soup is tasty as well. Portions are quite generous. As far as take out Chinese takeout goes, I have yet to find a place I like better. read more

My first time here. I had to get my Chinese food fix in. This place is the triple threat (my highest honor) of carry out dining. 1 - Ease of ordering, time waiting for food 2 - Price of food 3 - Taste of food It was very simple to order and the portions were huge enough to feed two people a few times. We only waited maybe 8-10 minutes the food was amazing, I'm thinking maybe I should go back again soon (writing this is making me hungry) lol. My daughter & I stopped in to pick up a couple take out combo meals. She ordered Sweet n Sour Shrimp Combo, I ordered Kung Pao Shrimp Combo. Each included a egg roll & chicken fried rice & a fortune cookie. My daughter wanted Egg drop soup also, so I ordered her a large with 2 bags of crispy noodles. The total was $23.30 & there were loads of food. There is enough left for lunch or dinner tomorrow. It was worth the money, the egg rolls were made with bean sprouts (our favorite) I usually go to China Star Restaurant in Westland but we were out shopping & close to China Gold, so stopped there & very glad we did :) I will go back because I'd like to try a few different items on their menu. I don't know why I haven't rated China Gold before. It is my go to take out Chinese place. Two reasons for that: It is less than a mile from my house, and the food is very good. Right now I'm chompin' on my favorite take out, sippin' my own tea, and writing this review. My son is eating their crab cheese rangoon, which is good. I always get the General Tso's chicken combination lunch, and I always get it extra hot. Even extra hot, it is probably too mild for some of you. I like it, and I would compare it to the general chicken from both Szechuan Restaurant in Canton and Szechuan Empire South in Livonia. I've eaten at them both. It is take out only -- and no credit cards. They will take a debit card but they charge extra for it. Bring cash. Now I must go and eat at the two Chinese restaurants I've mentioned -- it's been too long and I must confirm Joe B.'s findings. By the way, Joe, you started me on this quest. read more

The best Chinese in the region. I love Chinese food and at one time i ate from this place a couple times a week, when i worked down the road from it. Ive been eating from here since 1995 btw and the prices have obviously increased but are still lower than anything other than the fast food places. They are carry out only and they do have a card reader but I generally do cash since I am used to them not having the reader. Since I love Chinese food I eat at every one I find eventually so I have to say the reviewer who claimed this is the worst Chinese rarely eats Chinese food and is probably used to a different style, since they claimed they were all wrong. When I first step in to a new Chinese place the first thing I order is almond boneless chicken, chicken fried rice and an eggroll. I prefer a mushroom gravy, good cfc, and sprout eggrolls. They do not get knocked down if they have different styles, unless they use beef gravy, as long as the flavor is good. This place hits on all 3 perfectly. I generally order a number 1 an extra eggroll $0.70 hot oil since I like to make mine spicey. The portions are more than a person can easily eat, and I grown quite portly as of late and I cant eat it all unless i eat till bursting and was starving. What puts them far above most in the region is their flavorfull sauces. nothing bland, nothing too seasoned. at one time or another, I have eaten every thing on their menu and all of it is top notch. only one in the region comes close, thats a place on ford road in GC and China gold has them in the sauce department. btw the reason I order almond boneless chicken first is because if you cant make that decent in Michigan you can not cook anything right. learned this from experience giving places a second try after bad abc. read more

I have been coming here for 7 years, Sue at the counter is great. I order the General Tso dinner with mild sauce (very tasty sauce) and steamed rice. My only issue is sometimes my meal is over cooked causing the chicken to be dry and tough, so for that reason four stars was given for that one issue with consistency. Took my mom here for the first time last month, she loved her almond chicken dinner. Serving size is very generous, there is enough for 2-3 meals. Take out only, waiting room is not the best kept. I've been to quite a few Chinese restaurants and this one stands out, for worse. Their dinner sizes are small compared to all of the other Chinise/American restaurants I've been to. Usually I have rice and chicken overflowing those containers they come in but nope, not here, and their price was MORE expensive than the other restaurants and I got about 50% less here. Maybe I'm spoiled from all of the other places I get Chinese but this isn't my only complaint. The chicken in my sweet and sour chicken and almond chicken was so dry and tough, it was miserable, I soaked it in the gravy sauces but it didn't help. And for the fried rice, it doesn't have any goodies in it, no chunks of pork or onions or fried eggs, nada, maybe you have to ask and pay extra (?) The wonton soup was watery and bland and it had mushrooms in it that tasted like they came from a can, I could barely taste the pork in the wontons too. The crab meat rangoon (here they call it the "crab cheese rangoon" for good reason) tasted like a huge tablespoon of Philadelphia cream cheese with SERIOUSLY about 5 itty bitty pieces of crabmeat in them, probably for color/visual appeal honestly b/c I couldn't taste the crab at all. The cream cheese was so thick I couldn't eat it, it was like eating a mouthful of straight cream cheese. There are some positives here though, i don't' want to be so negative but this is just my experience and opinion, the staff was very polite, their egg rolls were DELISH, they use so many bean sprouts and it was messy to eat with a tougher consistency than most other egg rolls but I LOVED them they have a lot of flavor and I loved the texture. China Gold's sauces are really good too, quite flavorful. Overall the quality of their dishes and amount served here are so not worth the price. Ordered 2 meals from China gold today ($31.00) one with chicken and one with pork. I had the chicken and it had no flavor at all, my wife had the pork and she told me the meat had no flavor at all. We came to the conclusion that both meats might have boiled in water and nothing for flavor.will not order anything with meat in the future. We threw it out.
