My sister frequently goes here so decided to try it. Great food, generous amount for take home. Attentive staff, water glass was always full. The interior is a little dated but it's a family business. I got the beef with carrots & celery (mild) and my friend got Cashew Chicken both came with white rice. Both were delicious! We started eating at Sze Chuan well over 20 years ago, then moved to Chicago and always said we'd come back and have TaiChin Chicken and Chicken with Peanuts, our forever favorite dishes. Last year (2025) we finally made it back and just had the best experience. Our food was excellent and service was also excellent. The staff are all very friendly, the prices are still good, and we are now planning a trip back to Michigan in a couple of weeks. I ordered this for my mother. She informed me that the food made her sick! She threw up several times and had diarrhea. I called and spoke to someone saying they were the manager. She came across very uninterested. I spent $50 and change on these items. My mother called and spoke to her, and the "manager" stated they would replace the food. I had an intense craving for sweet and sour pork, tender pork in a light batter, fried to a golden brown, with bright red sauce. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Luckily, the restaurant I selected offered online ordering and after a few taps, my order was in. In addition to the pork, I also ordered shrimp toast, seafood with noodles, and orange beef. Sze Chuan is located on Ford Rd, along a busy stretch of road between 275 and Sheldon (a bit past). Along the way, I saw numerous places I wanted to try, including Maverick's, Sumo's, and Samosa Factory. Unfortunately, the sweet and sour pork was average. Some pieces were overcooked but I loved the fluorescent-bright red sauce. However, the shrimp toast was substantial and well-seasoned. The orange beef was tender and flavorful. And let me spend a moment paying homage to the seafood pan-fried noodle. At first, I was a bit puzzled by the container of "soup" and the dried noodles. Ah, a moment later, I got it. By combining the seafood "soup" with the noodles, the noodles soften to al dente. The shrimp and scallops were large and scrumptious. The peapods were fresh and complemented the seafood. Get this if you love seafood. I'm glad I tried this spot and will likely be back for some other items on the menu, including moo shu pork, duck, and scallops in black bean sauce. read more

This place was incredibly good. Walked in to get some lunch and got some basic Chinese dishes. The service was so fast I felt like I only blinked 20 times in between ordering my drinks, appetizers, and all the food was on my table. This place continues delivering good food and good service! The only critique I have is that the broccoli that came with the sesame chicken dinner was ever so slightly cold. Other than incredible! read more

Hands down the best Chinese food in the metro Detroit area and I've absolutely tried the vast majority of them to say this. Definitely the best pot stickers in SE MI. We love to get the deluxe fried rice, medium spice along with the entrees and it's reminiscent of this incredible spicy fried rice we'd eat all the time in Chicago - perfect amount of heat. The sesame chicken has this slightly sweet brown sauce that pairs very nicely with the fried chicken. Carryout or dine in, the food is always piping hot and served incredibly fast. Extremely friendly staff, they're wonderful. My son is getting to the age where it's fun to take him out and see him try new dishes for him and he remarked that he can't wait to come back when it was a little colder out because it was a really cozy ambiance. I am super impressed with Szechuan restaurant. I've been trying to find a Chinese restaurant in the area for two years that I really like and I finally did. It's kind of tucked off the road a little bit so you don't really notice it like you might other places and from the outside it just doesn't look that great. Very plain and basic. But that all changes once you walk inside. The restaurant is super clean, which I was very impressed by. It's kind of old school decor, but everything is really tasteful and it's not over crowded with decorations. A real example of less is more. It feels like a much nicer place once you're inside. The wait staff was wonderful. Very attentive without being overbearing. My water glass never got more than halfway empty. They were very friendly and service was quick. The food was really good. I was concerned that it might be a bit pricey, because I looked at the menu online before I went in, but the prices on the menu inside are lower than what I found online, and I felt fairly priced. The hot sour soup was very good. Hunan chicken was very good also. If I have a criticism it would be this, and this really isn't a complaint. The menu is huge. There's got to be a couple hundred items on it. And surprisingly, they don't have egg rolls, which is one of my favorites. The spring rolls are good, but I prefer an egg roll. They also didn't have Szechuan chicken on the lunch menu, which I was surprised by given the name of the restaurant. Lol. Obviously these are petty criticisms. This place is good. The Pupu Platter they name Treasure Island outstanding loaded in Wooden Spinning Lazy Susan. Loaded with Balamaki, Spring Rolls, Coconut Shrimp, Crab Rangoon, Chicken Wings , perfect for sharing. She had ABC traditional spot on wonderful . My third place I found Cold Chinese Noodles in Peanut Butter Sauce WOWED , it's my addiction that I seek out. Sze Chuan has been in our neighborhood for decades. They make food that's closer to actual Chinese fare than the other, Chinese-American food served by their competitors. Try their Lo Mein to experience this for yourselves. So much more delicious than elsewhere! You can taste the smoky flavor of the wok in their wonderful, thin noodles. It has been awhile since my last visit. I ordered Hot and Sour Soup and Happy Family (beef with vegetables including straw and shiitake mushrooms in brown sauce, topped with scallops, shrimp, chicken and peapods in white wine sauce. Soup was good, and the main dish was very good. I like this restaurant because they have a good variety of dishes that you cannot get at other Chinese restaurants. But I dinged them one star because of the price. I can literally get two excellent Chinese dinners at my favorite Chinese restaurant for the same price. As many people in this area have written, my husband and I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant. Our visit to the Szechuan Restaurant really showed promise. Upon entering, I appreciated the tasteful decor of the place, and the enthusiastic greeting we received. We tried the Crab Rangoon. They came out lightening fast. In fact, the service during the entire meal was some of the quickest I've experienced. The rangoon were good, everything you'd expect from this ubiquitous appetizer. My husband and I ordered the Cashew Chicken and the General Tsou's Chicken. Of the two, I liked the Cashew Chicken better. It had a really delicious, brown savory sauce and tender bites of chicken. There were plenty of delicious cashews as well. I would love to order this dish again. I'm on the fence about the General Tsou's. I ordered it medium, but could have used more heat. It came on a bed of raw bean sprouts, which had a really unpleasant flavor. I did like the chicken itself, but I think I would rather try something else on my next visit. read more

In addition to our standards, we will get egg drop soup, wrapped chicken, and whatever jumps out to us. We order online. Super easy. The pickup time is provided after you complete your order. We did takeout with the family. Our son felt that this wax one if the best Chinese restaurants in the area that they recently moved too. We agreed with him that the food was very good. Started coming there in the 1990s. Was my favorite restaurant for years. Moved to wisconsin then Florida. When i come back home i always visit this restaurant. The best Hot and Sour soup there is. Nobody comes close. Twice cooked pork is the best. Can't find this dish anywhere in Florida done right. However the last visit to SzeChuan the twice cooked pork wasn't very tender. And my wife's orange chicken was overcooked and the meat was hard and crispy. Hopefully things haven't gone downhill like other places. Didn't get the customary tea when seated. We were really in the mood for an "old-school" restaurant and this place really hits! It was so good, it was like eating food from my childhood, so nostalgic but delicious. We used to like a place that had been owned by the previous owners in Farmington Hills over a decade ago. Finally we got a chance to come here. From start to finish it was a great experience. The decor and vibe seems to be a nod to a different generation of restaurants. I liked the variety and number of items on the menu. I had been craving some dim sum, so I was excited to see shrimp toast on the menu. It was so crispy, crunch, not and fresh tasting. I would get this every time if I were a regular, very flavorful and satisfying. I sampled a couple of their well priced cocktails, a French martini which tasted like cotton candy and a Chinese dragon that tasted like a tropical hurricane drink. They were both very strong and good. I also had the Jasmin tea, which was quite delicious, very floral and hot. I put some sugar in it as I did when I was little. We tried the veggie spring rolls, very good and crunchy, tasted very nice. I like the mustard and sweet sauces that went with it, even if there were a bit watered down. I ordered the kung pao chicken minus the chili peppers. It was amazing! It honestly tasted like the filling in the bao I would eat as a child before it became so big in the mainstream cuisine world. I would get that again and again if I were a regular. A nice big portion came with too, plenty of leftovers which is a bonus. We also tried the curry hotpot. That was tasty. While I am a big curry fan, I was more partial to the kung pao since that is a favorite dish of mine. I definitely want to come back soon. This is a good location since there is a lot to do or see around here. Luckily we came on the earlier side. As we were leaving it seemed like the restaurant filled to capacity with many people waiting for dinner. I guess it is popular for a reason. read more

Food is five stars as is their service. I've been going here for 30 years, the only thing I'm disappointed in is the renovation. I'm more old-school Asian design than this new school look. It's cold too bright, but clean. Just not my cup of tea, regardless, I go here for the food & service. This place is 100 miles round-trip from my house, not only do we go here for dinner, we also carry out. If that doesn't make you curious about their food, then nothing will. Ordered : Harvest Spring Roll Sesame Chicken Chicken lomein Harvest Spring Roll was so crisp and tasted good with plum sauce. Sesame Chicken was so flavorful, well balanced with sweet and sour sauce. Chicken was crispy and was served along with steamed broccoli. Everything was scrumptious and Chicken Lomein was on point. We had spice level at medium and it was perfect. The portions were adequate. We ordered the General Tso Chicken extra hot. It had absolutely no taste, no spice whatsoever. Sitting in all red sauce. I had to ask if that was there General Tso Chicken thinking I ordered wrong..."Guess not. Wife ordered the sweet and sour chicken. She barely touched her plate. The egg roll was greasy and tasteless. I have to say friends, I am very happy. Chinese takeout is so hit or miss for me. Down the street from my house I noticed there was a Chinese restaurant on Ford and Canton Center. My wife and I were just craving it and we took our chances once again. I tried to go the safe route with sweet and sour chicken, and the wife wanted chicken Kung Pao. We also shared spring rolls and crab rangoon, because no American Chinese dinner is complete without those. It's not hyperbole for me to say that everything was amazing. The batter on the chicken was still crispy despite being greasy, the rangoons and spring rolls were crunchy and the chicken Kung Pao was so tender and savory. On this rare occasion we actually ate everything in one sitting. We now have our official go to place. read more
