I am still exploring Chin Express's menu. I have had General Chicken and Cashew Chicken. Both dishes were good to very good. The fried rice that you receive with the combination lunches is very flavorful and honestly excellent. I prefer spring rolls & could easily make a meal out of a couple of them. And, I can make one lunch combo last for 3 or 4 meals. I love the staff. They are enthusiastic and are very upbeat. This is, to me, one of the best Asian cuisine restaurants in the Van Buren/Canton area. The only reason that I did not bestow 5 stars is somehow my Cashew Chicken was spicy and that is not the way it is usually made! (I wasn't expecting that) read more

I will say that everyone is very kind and they try to make things right. However, this new change in ownership has resulted in a completely different experience from years past with different recipes for the food, long waits and generally poor presentation. I waited twice my estimated wait time and ended up without one of the items I ordered. Even though the website claimed to be utilizing classic Chin Express recipes, this was nothing like it. Unfortunately the chicken was poor quality, sauces packed separately and not on the chicken as traditional, and the sauces themselves were not good. There must have been a change in management as the quality of food and staff is much to be desired. The young lady at the cash register I could hardly hear her. When I asked her to speak up she roller her eyes because I interrupted her computer time. The food was less than tasty, nothing like it was previously. I hate leaving negative reviews. I ordered last night and then saw the recent negative reviews. I had buyers remorse immediately but it was too late so I picked up my hot and sour soup and general's chicken. I'm giving 2 stars because the hot and sour is decent. Unfortunately, my general's chicken was not even recognizable. It was really bad. I can't even call it general's chicken. It was missing several things. Well it was a good run. We returned last week and ordered our usual faves since the Mongolian Beef was just a "box o onions" Its all bad now....the Szechuan chicken is just "Szechuan veggies/onion" now too. Too bad so sad we need a new chinese place! read more

Quality is bad! We could not find beef in Mongolian Beef dish!!! General's Chicken was tough and chewy. The sauce in every dish was plain and tasteless. Too much onions in every fish to fill the plate. Egg drop soup was the worst - hardly any eggs and no taste. I wasted $50. Will never go back. read more

NEW OWNERS WITHIN THE PAST YEAR+ Very, very disappointed!!! I always had great food for over 20+ years and the same family owned it. The woman always remembered her customers and her sons each worked there before they went to college and if they came home on break, it was nice to see and hear how they were all doing. I think they must've retired, as the last time I was in, new people were there. That lady told me the others were gone and that the dishes were all the same as they had been prior.... Boy was that a lie. It was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, nothing I ordered even resembled the previous dishes, which unit in itself wouldn't have necessarily been bad if it tasted good (like it had). YUK, I can't say anything good about it. Sad when I think of how it was and how busy they used to be prior to leaving. I used to drive over 25 minutes to patronize this business as it was always a positive experience, but NO MORE. I thought I would see if maybe I had been hasty in my judgment but sadly after reading the reviews, I see I wasn't. With all the various Asian eateries around I can't imagine this will last very long. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, or TIME AND DON'T SUBJECT YOUR TASTEBUDS OR STOMACH TO THIS CRAP. PS. It's quick and hot! I've never had a bad experience so far. My husband seems to think it could have a little more meat but overall good.

This has always been my favorite Chinese Restaurant for carry out in the area. Food was always right with whatever you ordered. NOW ‍! Last couple of time going there it has been really bad. The most that I can give this restaurant is a 2 star. The service was really just OK. I ordered almond chicken which was not cooked crispy enough and had a weird taste to it. I can give them credit because they put the sauce on the side. I also ordered sweet-and-sour chicken they put the sauce on the side for that as well. I ordered crab rangoon which had absolutely no taste at all to it. The at shallow experience was Pretty unmemorable. I did not take any pictures of the food or anything. Chin express serves great food with great service at a fair price. The family owned business is very hands on with excellent customer service. I've had probably 15 different dishes there over the years; and while I gravitate to some dishes quicker than others I can say I've never been disappointed at Chin Express. There are plenty of Chinese food choices around the Canton MI area but Chin is clearly at or near the top of the heap. read more

This place was definitely a surprise. I got carry-out one night for a late dinner, expecting greasy junkfood chinese. I ordered veggie fried rice and wonton soup, and both were very good. Everything looked and tasted really fresh. The wonton soup was especially good. It was very light with lots of greens. It was not what I expecting, to be honest. I usually like my wonton soup heavy on the fatty pork juice. But I got over it pretty quickly, because it was so good and seemingly much healthier. The prices are very competitive too. Chin Express - Chin Express - Chinese Near Me - Canton, Michigan

Carry-out only Chinese-American food for a reasonable price. I will summarize this place in three words:" fresh vegetables", "bland". We got two dishes. A dinner combination with kung pao (gung bo, I think they called it) chicken had quite a lot of the chicken dish, with lots of fresh vegetables, including mushrooms, carrots and green peppers. The menu claims they have "authentic Cantonese and Szechuan food" but the dish, labeled spicy, had no hint of spice at all. The brown sauce it was in had a pleasant, if bland flavor. The fried rice in the combo was rice turned brownish from being soaked in soy sauce with no vegetables or other ingredients. The combo also came with a rather large egg roll. It wasn't greasy and it was full of very fresh vegetables, but it was also bland. Instead of the typical "duck sauce" (or plum sauce) it came with a tiny tub of something like a thinned sweet & sour sauce which actually tasted more like watered down cough syrup. We also got some pork lo mein. The noodles in the lo mein were not the typical noodles but a very thin noodle of the thickness of mai fun [which are made of rice, but these seemed to be wheat like regular lo mein noodles are]. There was plenty of sliced pork, as well as a lot of fresh vegetables, including bean sprouts, mushrooms, celery, cabbage and more. But there was no sauce, and that made the dish bland. A little bit of oyster sauce, which is often used to give lo mein it's typical flavor, would have gone a long way to giving the dish some depth. Dinner for two was about $15. Since it was carry-out (they have no seating except a few chairs to wait while your order is prepared) this covered only the food. While the fresh vegetables were wonderful, the lack of any flavor made the meal uninspiring and dull. If only they'd start properly spicing their food we'd be willing to go back and give them another try. read more

Chin Express is wonderful! Sure, it's essentially void of decor but this is a takeout restaurant - and a very nice one at that. Appearances are second to the friendly and helpful service you'll get here (the restaurant is family owned!) and nice big portions of food. Speaking of food - it is quite Americanized Chinese, but that doesn't mean it can't be good. Mooshu pork and Garlic shrimp come with plenty of vegetables and tangy sauce to swirl your rice around in. Lo mian is reliable and tasty as well. All this is made awesomer by the fact that they don't use MSG (!!!) If you're hankering for some takeout in canton, I'd encourage giving this place a shot! :) read more

This is our favorite local carry out for Chinese food. They have good fried rice, delicious almond chicken (they give you a ton!), sweet & sour and yummy szechuan chicken. We love their egg rolls & crab rangoons. Terrific service too! Not giving 5 Stars because of their General Chicken which is typically a fav of mine. I don't like their General Tsao chicken at all. .. it's weird long pieces of meat with a really dark sauce that isn't very spicy or sweet. Chin Express is a real deal for Canton. Prices are very competitive but the owners do not cut corners (as many higher priced Chinese eateries do in Canton). There is ample parking. Often you can find parking space in front of Chin, which is located at the shopping center on Cherry Hill near the new CVS Pharmacy. You get a large serving for your money. Many combination lunches are under $6.00 and several dinner combinations are under $7.00. Vetgetables are always fresh and meat is quality, never canned semi-lunchmeat cubes as many carryouts use. Chin has a solid regular customer base, so I advise calling ahead. It is family owned & operated. Usually the wife works the phone and the counter. Her English is excellent. If you haven't already, try Chin Express sometime. You'll be pleased with the prices and the food. read more

Let me start by saying I love, love, love American-style Chinese cuisine. Chin Express scores above my top 5 of all time. The dishes I have had to date are flavorful, fresh and great quality. Good portion sizes, friendly service and ample parking. The fried rice is average but the wonton soup was very filling. Lunch specials are reasonably priced and a good way to try different entrees. Chin Express was probably my favorite take out in Canton. We used to frequent this place for work related luncheons and I also would get it for home. It is take out - pure and simple. Call it Americanized Chinese or what have you - it was made well and tasty. Love the General, among the many others like Beef N Broccoli, Sesame, etc. This place won't win any awards for décor or eye appeal. But, it is just plain good take out on a Friday night. This is the only Chinese food restaurant that I go to in the Canton area. The food is always cooked fresh, the chicken is all white meat and the owners are so cute and friendly! You also get a fairly large portion size for a good price. Definitely recommend this place! read more

This little Chinese restaurant has so much potential. The combination of the foods flavors, and the consistency of execution is commendable, the rotten customer service, dismissive attitude of the young man who is the son of the owners, and the routine misses of items in carry out orders make ordering from this place not even worth it. Particularly when the son is there, you have to act on the tedium of checking your food in its entirety. Doing so, however, can be frustrating when they usually have double and triple tied bags and multiple staples running the perimeter of the styrofoam food containers. Forgetting egg rolls is ridiculous, bcz u really almost destroy the styrofoam container trying to open it, only to find them missing is as disappointing as it gets with carryout. I wish I could say that I finally got home and started opening the containers to find all was well tonight, but I can't. They were missing the egg rolls and we even ordered a couple extra for the kids and the missed the extras. I tried to call back and let them know but I knew they were pretty lousy with customer service, so I was already a bit apprehensive. Sure enough, they didn't feel the inconvenience of either my little kids missing the rolls today because they wanted to give me them on the next order (pretty useless offering), or the inconvenience of wasted resource (my time, gas, miles, etc...) was worth even offering any sort of comps or future comps as compensation for that waste. If this was the first time it would've been pretty bad, but to have the same experience twice makes me think that my next hankering for Chinese will provoke me to turn around and head back to my classic China gate, in Westland, just a few miles away that rarely screws up but if they do, you don't even have to ask bcz they'll show u that they care about your time and make sure it's overcompensated. That young boy who almost spat out "no" when I asked if they think that it was worth something small, like one egg roll, for me to hop back into my car and drive back to oick it up and come home again in the middle of dinner was as telling as could be, and shows an absolute disrespect of the time, lives, and families of the customer. I rarely see my family (crazy career) and I don't like spending that time driving. Apparently that time is not worth a dime to this boy, nor is double checking his orders to make sure his customers don't deal with these inconveniences something he feels is worth it. The word that comes to mind is... Weird. The chicken was cooked really well but the sauce on the Orange Chicken was so strange. I order Orange Chicken at every Chinese place and it's NEVER tasted like this before, very very sweet and no spice. Not much to say about this place. There general chicken was too sweet and not spicy. Definitely bland as someone described in their review. The sesame chicken was too sweet; almost tasting like honey. Maybe they sweetened it with honey. Chicken are of the bubbly-breaded fried type. If you like that style. There chinese vegetable soup is simple; but amazing! Oh and this place is only to go. I would say they need to lower their prices by a dollar or half. EDIT: I just tried their tofu dishes a few times; and the cook of this place makes the best tofu-and-veggie meals I have ever had. This is THE place to go to if you want an healthy tofu meal to replace a good home-cooked meal for a day or two! Best tofu dishes in all Canton! What does that mean? They are okay with the Americanized dishes like General and Sesame Chicken. But are very good with the dishes that are closer to Chinese authentic food.
