    Crystal Shrimp Dumplings. TASTY!
    Michael S.

Stopped in for lunch on Saturday, 03/14/2026. I have had delicious hand pulled noodles before and I was eager to give this place a try. I was seated immediately at ~11.30am. Since this was my first time here, the waitress was kind enough to recommend their signature dish N1a Beef ($14). I selected the Knife Pulled Noodles. For an appetizer I chose the A16 Crystal Shrimp Dumpling ($6.25 for 4). The dumplings dipped in the sauce provided were TASTY and ENJOYABLE. The signature beef dish was simply beef, bok choy and the noodles. The broth was DELICIOUS, the noodles were SLURPING & LIP SMACKING GOOD! Total was $21.41 after tax. When I paid the bill shortly after noon, the place was getting crowded for lunch. A good sign!

I arrived at 5:30 on a Friday night and expected a wait, but was pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly and service was very attentive . I heard how incredible this place was and was anxious to try Everything on the menu. We chose: rose boba, pork and onion dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and beef noodle soup. Everything g was good, but not really spectacular. The beef soup was standard with a bland broth. Dan Dan was delicious but noodles were a little cold, so sauce did not distribute evenly. The boba was a little too sweet. Dumplings were served hot and were home made with thick dough- excellent! I'll definitely return to try other items. Perhaps it was an off night.

Returned on a cloudy day and the hand pulled beef noodle soup was perfect! My husband ordered the Laksa noodle soup and it also had good flavor (a decent amount of spicy but manageable). It does look pretty greasy though. Service is great and we left with leftovers! Portions are great along with the prices (about $30 for the both of us).

Yum! Handpulled noodles. Says it all, really. I've tried several over the years, from the classic Beef Noodle soup, to an authentic Sichuan bowl, to most recently, the Laksa. For delivery, you'll get the noodles, broth, and any additional toppings (for me, bok choy) separately to keep the noodles fresh and from getting soggy. Great texture, great flavor, generous amount of seafood and bok choy! Big enough for two meals. Don't sleep on their dumplings, scallion pancakes, and other offerings in general. Best to go with an appetite! I love getting their wood ear mushrooms side as well, as I don't find that very often.

We were out and about in the Ann Arbor/Ypsi area and saw Lan City on Yelp! The reviews looked promising and I always love some hand pulled noodles in my life. This place did not disappoint. It is not your average Chinese American restaurant, so be prepared for something different. The restaurant is clean and definitely has a traditional vibe. The moment we walked in we were greeted by this amazingly eccentric woman, who ended up being our waitress. Her name is Jenny and she was awesome. We got an appetizer of soup dumplings xiao long bao. They were good, maybe not the best I have had, but hit the spot. My wife ordered the lo Mien not to be mistaken with lo mein. It is made with wide noodles and some veggies. This was saucy, savory and had big chunks of beef in it. Not your average bowl of noodles. My daughter and I both ordered braised beef noodle soup (La Mien). I got mine with the hand knife cut noodles and she got the thinner hand pulled noodles. Both bowls came with beef, bok choy and cilantro. Our waitress Jenny was awesome throughout the meal. She was like my Chinese Aunty I never knew I needed. She made me 3 different sauces for my noodles. She came and sat with us and explained all the ways to enjoy it. I took a few home to enjoy. Was this the greatest food I have ever had, no. Was this one of the best experiences I have had, YES! Jenny was so amazing and made this an awesome dining experience. Please do yourself a favor and go check out this spot and ask for Jenny. You will not be disappointed. I am giving this place a 5 stars because of the experience.

Quick service and a variety of food on the menu. We got the pork dumplings crispy and the meat was flavorful. The Dandan noodles were great, would recommend adding the chili oil provided on the side. The seafood dish came in a great creamy coconut soup. The portions were huge and two people could share one entree.

Jennifer was an amazing waitress! Everyone was so nice and the food was amazing. The sesame chicken was seriously the best our family of 4 ever had!! Not even joking. We also got the beef noodle soup, the broth was delicious and the noodles were delicious. I wish I could work for free and learn some recipes from them. We came into town from Colorado to drop our son off to college and saw on Yelp and wanted to try it. You seriously need to try this place!

The broth is still super greasy. :( I've given it multiple tries since my last post. I don't know what changed but the broth used to be SO good and is now just incredibly oily. Really disappointed.

Fantastic! We placed a pick-up order with four items and it was ready quick. The server on the phone was very friendly, we had a shrimp allergy in the group and they were very accommodating. I got the homemade scallion pancakes and pad thai. So delicious! The scallion pancakes were thick with great side sauces. The pad thai noodles tasted fresh. The interior looked like it had a lot of seating and there's plenty of parking. Hope to be back soon!

The food is pretty amazing. Where else can you get hand pulled noodles? I love the Dan Dan noodles and their dumplings and wontons are very good. The service is fast and the waitress is very helpful in explaining what you're getting and offering you options. The interior is somewhat modern, but can be drafty in the winter. This place would be 5 stars if they just did a little scrubbing on the walls or repainted.

The original beef hand pulled noodle soup. Very good!

We were getting food to take to our hotel and this was nearby. We ordered a ton. I was most excited about the leak and pork dumplings! They were very good but not what I was expecting. The filling was like a meat ball and the outside had the most wonderful homeade dough. We also had spring rolls and pad thai which were good and what you'd expect. On top of that We ordered pork buns which also weren't what I expected. I thought bbq pork but they also had a meatball like filling. Good food, good portions. Can't go wrong!

It has been a long time since my last visit. A shout out to fellow Yelpers Al P and Jeffrey R for putting it back on my radar. I ordered the leek purse with egg and the Chong Qing Noodle Soup (with extra bok choy). The appetizer was outstanding (don't forget to dip it in some black vinegar). I have had this massive bowl of soup before, and it was as great as I remembered (great broth and loaded with ground pork, soybeans and bok choy). The pickled mustard green and peanuts are a nice touch to the soup, and the noodles are fantastic. Great service too. I need to visit this establishment more often for authentic Chinese, Malay, and Singaporean/Indonesian dishes.

So happy I was able to stop by before leaving Michigan to go home. Our family stopped by for a quick meal on Monday during lunchtime. The place was busy but we got a table right away. Our server greeted us quickly and took drink orders and then our food order. She was helpful when we ordered items, bringing up good points - such as whether the kids wanted cilantro or not. Food came quickly and the texture of the noodles were perfectly chewy and cooked well. The broth of the soup was also well seasoned and not too salty. Oh how I wish I could come again soon.

Ask the Community - Lan City Handpulled Noodle

Do they have any gluten free options for celiacs?

    Are GLuten Free Noodles available?

Could someone indicate exactly which menu items are vegan or could easily be made so? Wondering especially about Singapore Noodles, Tomato Noodles, hot oil, etc. I get different answers from different servers. :/

I was told that most dishes could be 'meat/egg free" if you asked for not to be cooked with meat.. but they didn't answer my question about the broth, but the noodles are egg-free.

Do they offer vegan options? And where's their menu?

Yes there is vegan option like the vegetable lo mien. You can check out the menu by looking at the picture posted or go to their website to check their menu.

There are a few things that one should note right off the bat:…read more 1) Ypbor Yan moved buildings a couple of years ago, so old reviews that discus the interior space are very much outdated. 2) Their new sign reads Ypbor FM as they have a *F*ood *M*useum in the entry way, but the "museum" is both easy to overlook and certainly not the main draw of the business. 3) Look at the most popular dishes on Yelp and take many of the reviews with a few grains of salt. Why? This is a Sichuan restaurant, and while they may offer sweet and sour chicken, almond boneless chicken, and whatever other American-Chinese dishes you fancy, those in the know come for the distinctive numbing ma-la spice of the region. Southeast Michigan, being in the midwest, is generally lacking in really traditionally fiery foods. As such, Ypbor was such a delightful change of pace I was tempted to give the place five stars. However, that desire was really about the cuisine and not the execution. The food is good to be sure, I'm going to return again and again, but there are definitely elements that are lacking. While I do not want to linger on the negative, the noodles could be improved, the dan-dan was super wet and more like a soup, and while the salt miner's chicken was fine and I'm glad I tried it once, it's decidedly not a must order dish. That said, the Sichuan poached fish is great. I was also absolutely charmed by the Spicy Chinese Broccoli in a Wok, which while under the vegetable section contains a generous amount of sliced pork belly. Part of the charm was that this was not the "Chinese Broccoli" I was expecting. The broccoli itself was more like traditional broccoli, but white in color. Flavors, textures, and heat were all fantastic. The menu is long, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of it. Perhaps there is a way to make a 5* meal from the options, and nothing would make me happier than to share that with you all at some point down the road. Until then, I recommend checking out the newer, cleaner, friendlier Ypbor, and getting outside of your comfort zone with trying legit Sichuan foods. Just remember, everything is intended for family style eating, so one entree for every two people is plenty. Leftovers are fine, but this food is always better when it's freshly prepared, as opposed to traditional "Chinese Takeout" which some might argue was never really all that great in the first place.

We had to each order our own bowl of rice, but they brought out just one bowl for the whole table. One person with me had to ask for her spring roll multiple times. Service not great. Perhaps it was just that Sunday night but I'm not likely to try again.
