My family keeps on asking how I found this place, since we are not from around here, and I really do not know. Social media? Yelp? Not sure, but I was excited to come here and try the food. It was a thousand out of ten. We ordered so much, the server was in shock, but we reassured her we were taking most home. I also feel like I should comment on food waste. I am the leftover queen, and this amount of food supplied ten portions (meals) for us over time and was completely finished. I saw they had two locations, but I decided to try the Ypsilanti location. The people working here were very friendly and helpful. I basically ordered half of the appetizer section since there was so much delicious choices to try. I had the sticky rice shumai, roti with curry, spicy wantons, pan fried pork buns, chicken egg rolls, crispy pork lion roll, and Korean wings (not pictured since I got an additional carry-out for my kid). We also ordered Dan Dan noodles , pad Thai, and sesame chicken. The food was all so delicious. The Dan Dan noodles were the best I have had in a long time. I love that it was not too spicy, the egg was a great addition, and I do like cilantro. The sesame chicken was huge and so crispy. I liked the pad Thai, but my husband was a bit disappointed and felt it needed a little more spice or flavor. The portions were huge, which is how we got so many meals out of the food. I loved the spicy oil on the wantons. The pan fried bus were amazing, fluffy with a slight crisp. the Korean wings had a great flavor and I liked the shumai a lot. I love how chewy the roti was, the sauce could have been thicker, but I enjoyed the curry. Everything was so good, I am not sure what I liked the most. Had a nice dinner here with a colleague. Tried the pan-fried bao, shao long bao, and the shrimp/chicken dumplings. All were excellent.i tried the Malaysian Mee Goreng noodles and it was very good. I'm so mad I didn't take any photos at all (sad face). This was a LONG AWAITED MOMENT. So glad I finally got around to here. The restaurant isn't very big, but has a good amount of seating. Everyone is here is like family. When the customers are eating so are the workers lol. But that's not an issue at all because service once you get it and order, food is out before you know it. I tried the chicken noodle soup with the hand pulled noodles and chefs kiss !!!! So good. I added some of their chili oil and black vinegar and it made it even better. We also tried their spicy chili oil dumplings and I wish I got some to go! We also had the spicy tofu and the sauce was so good I added it to my soup (I did not try the tofu itself as I'm not a fan). We also had these pan fried pancakes which I brought one home! We had the soup dumplings and they were delicious also. The egg rolls were so good. Man, everything was good. Bland.... Saw this place on social media. Thought I'd give it a try- reviews looked somewhat promising. Started with the cucumber "salad". This was some sliced cucumber in soy/sesame oil mix that was left for a while to become overly soggy. That is it. Mushy. Awful presentation. This was .26 cents of over marinated gray cucumber, a tablespoon of soy and a tablespoon of sesame oil. $7 - Not a good start. Next, the chicken egg rolls(2). The good- they were large and fresh out of the fryer. The bad- bland, tasteless filling. Very mushy. No veggies or bean sprouts or onion or garlic. Awful sensation as you take a bit filled by very bland taste. Next came the touted beef noodles. This was thin sliced roast beef in a "broth" along with noodles, bok choy and cilantro. And there was a spice in there that I did not recognize. Not a great flavor. Very bland. Think boiled thinly sliced cheap roast beef boiled with overcooked noodles. Where is the garlic? The onion? The complexity of other ingredients- entirely absent. I realize this review is harsh. This place is another of a million Asian restaurants run by someone that does not have any culinary skills whatsoever. A really bad meal for $30. read more

Stopped in for lunch on Saturday, 03/14/2026. I have had delicious hand pulled noodles before and I was eager to give this place a try. I was seated immediately at ~11.30am. Since this was my first time here, the waitress was kind enough to recommend their signature dish N1a Beef ($14). I selected the Knife Pulled Noodles. For an appetizer I chose the A16 Crystal Shrimp Dumpling ($6.25 for 4). The dumplings dipped in the sauce provided were TASTY and ENJOYABLE. The signature beef dish was simply beef, bok choy and the noodles. The broth was DELICIOUS, the noodles were SLURPING & LIP SMACKING GOOD! Total was $21.41 after tax. I arrived at 5:30 on a Friday night and expected a wait, but was pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly and service was very attentive . I heard how incredible this place was and was anxious to try Everything on the menu. We chose: rose boba, pork and onion dumplings, Dan Dan noodles and beef noodle soup. Everything g was good, but not really spectacular. The beef soup was standard with a bland broth. Dan Dan was delicious but noodles were a little cold, so sauce did not distribute evenly. Returned on a cloudy day and the hand pulled beef noodle soup was perfect! My husband ordered the Laksa noodle soup and it also had good flavor (a decent amount of spicy but manageable). Yum! Handpulled noodles. Says it all, really. I've tried several over the years, from the classic Beef Noodle soup, to an authentic Sichuan bowl, to most recently, the Laksa. For delivery, you'll get the noodles, broth, and any additional toppings (for me, bok choy) separately to keep the noodles fresh and from getting soggy. Great texture, great flavor, generous amount of seafood and bok choy! Big enough for two meals. Don't sleep on their dumplings, scallion pancakes, and other offerings in general. Best to go with an appetite! I love getting their wood ear mushrooms side as well, as I don't find that very often. read more

It is not your average Chinese American restaurant, so be prepared for something different. The restaurant is clean and definitely has a traditional vibe. The moment we walked in we were greeted by this amazingly eccentric woman, who ended up being our waitress. Her name is Jenny and she was awesome. We got an appetizer of soup dumplings xiao long bao. They were good, maybe not the best I have had, but hit the spot. My wife ordered the lo Mien not to be mistaken with lo mein. It is made with wide noodles and some veggies. This was saucy, savory and had big chunks of beef in it. Not your average bowl of noodles. My daughter and I both ordered braised beef noodle soup (La Mien). I got mine with the hand knife cut noodles and she got the thinner hand pulled noodles. Both bowls came with beef, bok choy and cilantro. Our waitress Jenny was awesome throughout the meal. She was like my Chinese Aunty I never knew I needed. She made me 3 different sauces for my noodles. She came and sat with us and explained all the ways to enjoy it. I took a few home to enjoy. Was this the greatest food I have ever had, no. Was this one of the best experiences I have had, YES! Jenny was so amazing and made this an awesome dining experience. 6 years later...Lan City has been a staple for us! We've been to their newer downtown location but since the dining room has re-opened here, this is still our go-to location! Came here recently and it's still as good as ever! I'm still all about: *Pork Spare Rib Noodles (All noodle bowls are garnished with cilantro and scallions. Soup bases are made with fresh beef bone broth.) - WILL KNIFE CUT NOODS only. It's always a nice clear broth that's super flavorful. *Hot Pepper Oil Noodle (No broth. Smokin' hot oil seared on red pepper flakes, fresh garlic, scallions & hand stripped wide noodles. All noodle bowls are garnished with cilantro and scallions.) - these are really wide and thick noooooodles and packs some heat! Amazing, just amazing! We stopped by to eat a late lunch/early dinner, and I just can't believe that we haven't stopped by before. Everyone was so friendly when we walked in, very quick to bring us water and ask what we wanted to drink/eat. The interior was welcoming and clean. We enjoyed the sliced beef noodle soup and the sesame chicken (upgraded the noodles to hand cut). Both dishes were cooked perfectly, the flavors were amazing, including the sweetness of the noodles. Fantastic! We placed a pick-up order with four items and it was ready quick. The server on the phone was very friendly, we had a shrimp allergy in the group and they were very accommodating. I got the homemade scallion pancakes and pad thai. So delicious! The scallion pancakes were thick with great side sauces. The pad thai noodles tasted fresh. We were getting food to take to our hotel and this was nearby. We ordered a ton. I was most excited about the leak and pork dumplings! They were very good but not what I was expecting. The filling was like a meat ball and the outside had the most wonderful homeade dough. We also had spring rolls and pad thai which were good and what you'd expect. I ordered the leek purse with egg and the Chong Qing Noodle Soup (with extra bok choy). The appetizer was outstanding (don't forget to dip it in some black vinegar). I have had this massive bowl of soup before, and it was as great as I remembered (great broth and loaded with ground pork, soybeans and bok choy). The pickled mustard green and peanuts are a nice touch to the soup, and the noodles are fantastic. Great service too. I get the number 1 which comes with thin sliced beef, their pulled noodles, and some other toppings. Oh my goodness! I live in Memphis and was in Ypsilanti for just two days on a work trip. I overheard someone talking about this place and had to check it out. We were cruising between Lansing and Detroit so we pulled up our lists and Lan City kept calling to us. The spot is off a strip mall with plenty of parking. Walking in is the order counter and some chairs for pick up orders. The dinning room is opened into the room with some tables and booths. We already had looked at the menu and put in our purse to our kind waitress- Chicken Lo Mein, Chicken fried rice, chicken egg rolls, and two sesame chickens. Boy did we have a feast the food came out piping hot within minutes. The noodles were out of this world you can tell they are homemade Nothing was too spicy for me as my tolerance is low and we boxed up the leftovers easily with a bag to go. The service was excellent and we can't wait to come back to try the Dan Dan noodles. The restaurant itself could use some TLC with restaurant supplies in the dining room and the booths are not set in the floor so they move. Great dining experience and until next time! read more

Blink and you will miss them. It's a little confusing but they do have indoor dining I didn't know what to expect so we just dove in and tried the dumplings, so full of flavor, tender and HUGE! I also tried the Pork Rib and Noodle soup; the ribs were so tender and served with baby bok choy in the most delicious beef broth that I topped with chili flakes. I was here once by accident and honestly don't know why I don't consciously choose to come to this restaurant more often. The restaurant is clean, service was fine, but I was there specifically for the hand-shaven noodles and it's an available option for all their dishes that includes noodles. This doesn't get more handmade than this. You can tell someone was shaving off pieces of a block of dough because some noodles are all different sizes, some longer and wider than others. Had the beef tripe noodle soup, their broth is so good and the tripe was very tender. Note - this is the original Ypsilanti location. The other satellite location on the University of Michigan campus doesn't have as big of a menu and definitely no hand shaved noodles. Prices are about the same though. I had heard about Lan City for heads but when they first opened they didn't have a ton of vegetarian options. I'm so glad they do now! We ordered the scallion pancakes, the tofu lo mein (original style) and then the cold noodles but added tofu. I opted for hand pulled noodles for the cold noodle dish. The flavors were spicy and fulfilling. The scallion pancake wasn't greasy like some places make them. So glad I finally tried this place.
