    Katsu Don

I will always come here for a Katsu Don. They never fail to satisfy my craving! It is a family restaurant owned by very friendly ladies, and I love coming here after work shift or class. There is plenty to take home for leftovers. They also have sushi and ramen.

Nice food and really good prices for sushi. They came with complimentary miso soup (it has fish btw for anyone with dietary restrictions like me). Lots of sushi roll options on the menu and a good number of vegetarian options. Very very affordable place and located so close to campus - it's definitely a very popular spot for students.

Super cozy small little shop. Food is authentic and homestyle, not too pricy. Very good service, they bring kids cup and extra bowl and everything without asking. Miso soup on the house right away. Delicious and our go to cozy choice in the area.

Everything here was super fresh! I've been in person and have gotten carry out. I will say the service is great, everything was fast but it's definitely super packed in there, you're very close to other tables. I got the tuna and avocado roll and a special california roll. Super fresh and yummy. I'm a huge spicy mayo person and I'm not the biggest fan of it here. But overall the service is good and the food is good so I definitely recommend!!

Just happened upon this place while staying at the Bell Tower Hotel before the game. Aromas hit me as I walked in and was seated by the window. When I looked at the menu, I wasn't sure if I was missing something, since the prices looked low. It wasn't busy, but the other diners seemed happy. Why not? I was greeted with a complementary bowl of miso soup. So flavorful and warming! I had a tofu roll, Tamago (egg omelette) and fresh salmon sashimi. Nice portions and very fresh. My server was friendly and attentive throughout my visit. Another bonus: the bill was less than $15. I couldn't believe my eyes and felt kinda of guilty, even though the bill was correct. I had to leave a substantial tip to justify myself!

Came here with a friend and ordered the fancy roll combo (around 17.00) and spider roll (around 15.00). The location is very good, it's in the UMICH campus. When we got there it wasn't packed but the service was a little slow. We waited close to half an hour for the first plate to arrive. A lot of the dishes came out at once, so I kind of feel like the waitress was just not paying attention, but I'm not sure. The food came a few minutes after we asked about the order. The combo was worth the price (you're saving like $10 compared to buying the rolls separately, so it's worth your money). Sadly, we never tried any of the sashimi rolls. The Spider roll was good. It was fresh and the pieces were very large. Decent place for dinner if you're not in a hurry.

BIG fan of the chicken katsu here. The portion size is definitely worth the price - I had leftovers! The crispiness of the chicken was excellent. I have gotten sushi from here before, and I have no complaints. Honestly, the best thing about this restaurant is the service. The main woman who runs the service is the star of the show. She is efficient, joyful, and reliable. She can handle every table at once, when the restaurant is at peak capacity, and makes sure that everyone is taken care of. She does not slow down, and is on a mission that you enjoy the food and get to your next scheduled thing on time. My friends and I are typically in a rush to get out before lunch time ends, and she makes sure we do so. Worth returning, and I will be back for sure.

The salmon melted in my mouth, was very satisfied. Service was pretty quick and the lighting was nice. I sat by the window. Ordered Tuna, Salmon, and Salmon lover.

MaMa Satto is my go to spot for sushi in Ann Arbor. I've literally gone here almost weekly and it never disappoints. My favorite roll is the tuna tataki but all of them are pretty great. They also have a pretty extensive menu of rolls and appetizers to try so there's always something new to try. Besides the sushi my friends and I really enjoyed the edamame and the gyoza. We also really like the ramens and have tried the dumpling ramen and the chicken katsu ramen which come in really big serving sizes and are great to share. The calamari wasn't my favorite on the menu but easy to overlook when everything else was so great. The service is quick and the workers are great and so kind. Before the appetizers come out, the meal starts with a bowl of delicious miso soup. The sushi then proceeds to come out pretty quickly while the ramen does take a bit longer but is worth it. You should be able to walk into MaMa Satto and get a table without a wait and a great meal. P.s. the sushi also travels great when ordered for delivery

    Curry Rice With Beef
    Casey W.

So I ordered curry rice bc the menu said there was beef in it and I really like beef so take this with a grain of salt. There was only one piece of beef and one piece of carrot. I honestly wouldn't mind paying more if it'd mean getting more than just sauce over rice. don't get this if you're looking for a filling meal.

Delicious sushi, consistent quality, generous portions. Kind and welcoming customer service. I highly recommend the sweet shrimp ama ebi, some of the best in town! Space is nice as well.

    Miso soup, green tea

Mama Satto is my favorite sushi place in Ann Arbor. This one time recently my friend and I had delicious sushi and great service. It was really cold out and they brought us complimentary miso soup (which we always get) and green tea (which I think was a cold day special). I enjoy their house salad, crispy rice appetizer, and special rolls, but my friends are always satisfied with what they order. This time I ordered the Tuna Tataki and Dragon roll which were both great, and my friend ordered the cucumber roll, salmon roll, and chicken teriyaki roll. We also shared the yellowtail nigiri which was delicious. Because they weren't busy our server was extra kind and bagged our order for us. Usually they are swamped and don't give as much individual attention, that's the one criticism I have for them -- maybe hire some more wait staff. Considering the sushi is really good their prices are not crazy, I think the total for my friend and I together was $65. I love it here, my favorite sushi place always!

This place is aligned fairly well though with food in Korea though ie not highly westernized. This place is in the center of the college area on Liberty and State street. The selection is not extensive but the basics are here including BBQ. Side dishes are decent, Kimchi, which is fundamental to any Korean meal and varies by region, is always included and people have strong opinions about. Theirs is OK but not top notch. Other side dishes are decent. Whatever we ordered, BBQ, Yuk Gae Jang, Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap (Rice. Vegetables and beef inn stone pot), other was pretty good.....just like Seoul Garden used to be before ownership change. We used to go almost exclusively to Seoul Garden near the mall off Boardwalk but after ownership change stopped as the taste changed significantly and not for the better. Its nice to have The Seoul is an option. They have beer and soju (Ubiquitous Korean liquor in Korea that along with Kimchi is many Koreans blood) Environment of the restaurant is modern but still a bit cozy. Overall, definitely worth a try. While we are at it, I have spent allot of time in Japan on business (some vacationing too) and I know it's trendy to go there now especially with the exchange rate, and by all means go, allot to see and experience (and eat!) there. But don't overlook Korea. The two countries have a torrid history and don't want to admit they are similar in many ways....but they are and Korea is loaded with great places to go and food to eat. Traveling can be done on any budget, feel free to reach out if you want to learn more. Also love to hear from experienced travelers, love to learn of new places and things to do.

We met up for lunch recently and had a great experience. Nate and I first went into the wrong restaurant - they also have a more casual noodle spot next door, so be sure you know where you're meeting/going! We hadn't figured out if we wanted to do Korean BBQ or not when we first arrived, but we ended up choosing from the lunch specials/combos menu which was a great value. Plus I can never decide what I want, so it was great to be able to get a combo with two different options. I went with the bulgogi/nengmyun combo and we also got an order of mandoo to share. Our server was super patient and helpful with navigating the menu. The food came out quickly and everything was pretty tasty - I loved the mandoo (dumplings) - they were big and filled nicely. The nengmyun was good, not the best version of this dish that I've had, but it's hard to find in my city so I was happy to have theirs. I loved the spicy pork bulgogi; super flavorful and not too spicy. Nate got the sundubu stew which was delicious and quite spicy! The portions were large, especially for the price. I always forget how great it is eating in college towns - things can be way cheaper! Parking here is a bit tricky as it is anywhere downtown, but we lucked out with a street meter nearby. I will definitely be back to Tomukun in the future.

Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.
