Gah I want to give 5 stars but it was just so pricey for a bowl of pho ($19)!! Besides the price, everything tasted delicious!! The ambiance is great and they have the prettiest lanterns! You order using a QR code. The server was really friendly and helpful (I asked for drink recommendations and got the jackfruit one because I like sweeter drinks)! It's the Fujiwhara Effect drink. And the food was really good. I ordered the beef pho and the broth was amazing (no MSG taste but I wish they didn't add so much pepper)! My husband got the chicken pho and it was also good but I liked the beef broth better. I guess for being located in downtown, they have to have high prices. We came here on a weeknight with our friends and really enjoyed ourselves. The only thing that could've been a little better is the option to order with a server instead of using the Toast QR code. It makes us need to look at our phones and interrupted our meal when we were done with our appetizers. There was only one person working to serve the tables, run food, and make drinks, so I understand needing to use the link for efficiency. Our drinks came out after a reasonable amount of time, but they ran out of the spirit needed for two of them. Out of all the appetizers we ordered, the meatballs with baguette was everyone's favorite. Everything was delicious, and service was great! Approachable Vietnamese semi-fusion-y spot with a varied menu that feels like there's something for everyone! I noticed a good selection of vegan options as well. Better pricing and vibes than the previous Taste Kitchen for more people, I think. They have a pho special where if you order a pho, you can get a second pho to go for 40% off. Kind of a no brainer. - Beef pho was good! Nice broth. The meat and noodles were not the best I've had in Ann Arbor though. - Shaking beef was delicious. Highly recommend. Doesn't look like there's a ton of beef, but it felt like we kept finding pieces and it was good for sharing. - Vegan Laksa was very tasty! Came out not super warm though, would've liked this to be hot - Mushroom dumplings are DELICIOUS. Highly recommend this one as well. - Meatball bahn mi was fun! I've never had a bahn mi quite like this before, but I did enjoy. The bread was good. - Tofu summer rolls (not pictured) were light with a very nice sauce as well! They now have a Tuesday Special of half of a bowl of pho and half of a banh mi. I liked the idea and it was tasty, but I wish that the pho had had some noodles and bean sprouts to make the combo lunch more filling. read more

Came here for lunch on Tuesday. Located in what I believe used to be the taste kitchen. As you enter the host/waiter allows you to sit wherever you like. All ordering is done via digital menu on your phone you can either place an order via phone to the kitchen and start a tab if you plan on ordering more items or more cocktails or you can settle the tab immediately. There was only one server in the restaurant so ordering by phone is quite important for efficiency in this restaurant. I would imagine many restaurants will adopt this strategy to cut down on costs. A pitcher of water is brought to every table by the server, and your meal after you have placed your order by phone. I settled my tab immediately as was not planning to order anymore food. You can hold off until after the meal and run a tab to ensure the service is good before tipping. With this style of ordering interaction with the server is minimal. Our small plate pork belly and shrimp summer roll does elevate the summer roll. Dipping sauces were very good everything was really fresh. My vegan laska soup was amazing the broth is absolutely addicting, I love the amount of mushrooms they add along with their firm tofu. My wife had the Tuesday special 1/2 beef pho 1/2 pork belly-pate Bahn mi. Tasting her pho it was good but not blow you away amazing for the price they charge for a full serving. The Bahn mi is taken to another level, the bread they use is the best tasting bread in town for Bahn mi. The pate with pork belly is great combination works well together. The table includes bottles of siracha and hoisin sauce. Interestingly my wife and I were planning on going next door for an after meal tea/coffee to Block & brew cafe. Only to find out it is connected to the restaurant probably owned by the same owner. Why not add all the drinks from Block & brew cafe to the restaurant I was craving more of a bubble tea since I do not drink would have been nice with the meal. A nice little spot just be prepared to spend more than your typical Vietnamese restaurant. read more

I tried the vegan laksa, shaking beef, and pho. Very average food that is pretty expensive. I did not dislike any of the dishes, but would not choose to come back. They had a selection of mocktails, I tried the non alcoholic negroni and I did not enjoy it at all - would not recommend. read more

This place is new so there aren't a whole lot of people that know about it, but that will certainly change. The restaurant is very clean and is designed nicely. They have a bar that will be in service soon as well. The staff are extremely helpful and nice which is always a nice touch. All the food tastes authentic; I even asked about how they make the pho, and they told me that the broth is made with clean ingredients and uses a traditional method. Wide variety of sauces and food options as well. Accommodating to allergies too. Overall the food is super clean and very delicious, and I will 100% be coming back. read more

New Vietnamese fusion place that took over the spot taste kitchen used to be. Overall, similar decor but a more casual vibe than taste kitchen. Food was tasty, but portions were on the smaller side. Ambiance is nice. Restaurant is trendy with nice lights and pictures around. There is an old sign of Taste, which looks pretty decrepit. Not sure why they left it up. Intimate space with a nice bar. Service is good. They are attentive. You order from your phone, which is totally fine. Food: biggest weak spot. Beef pho- 6/10. meat is great. Noodles were decent. Soup lacked depth but was also a bit too salty. The pho came with a good amount of bean sprouts and herbs. Banh mi- 4/10. Overall good ingredients but... besides pate and mayo, not really tasting like authentic banh mi. It had pork belly and pickled veggies. The pickled veggies were not strong enough. The pork belly was good quality but bland. I think they tried to americanize this too much, and overall lost what a banh mi should be. Calamari- 7/10. nice and light. Served with nuoc cham aoili- again, probably an attempt to make it more appealing to the general public, but the aoili suffers from being bland. Nuoc cham should be strong, not creamy mayo. Value: 5/10. This cost about $50 overall. Closing thoughts: Typical Ann Arbor fusion restaurant- tries to appeal to the greater community by making things less "scary and authentic" but in that, cuts off what makes Viet food great. Ann Arbor food tends to be good quality, but overpriced and somewhat bland, which this falls into. I like the place, servers were nice, but I will not return. Paris banh mi sells bigger and more authentic banh mi for a similar price just a block away. Pho house, about 10-15 minutes away, sells pho with much better broth and noodles at a lower price (Albeit with worse quality meat). read more

The pho was good. Appetizer portions were quite small for the price. $12 for spring rolls that are the same and much cheaper in authentic Vietnamese restaurants. Service was impersonal if not brusque. I guess most people these days don't care about that but ordering on an app from phone can be confusing to older people. read more

Every item was incredibly flavorful and perfectly prepared. Meatballs appetizer and surf and turf pho were incredible. Staff was welcoming and informative. Great vibe, great food, great cocktails, and very reasonable prices. Honestly, one of the best experiences and meals I've had at a restaurant in a long time. We sat at the bar. The bar tender was very friendly and made recommendations about the food and cocktails. This place has happy hour 7 day a week with great prices. We'll be regulars at Saigon Kitchen without question.
