    Galbi tang
    Linda L.

Great authentic Korean food and staff was very nice. Loved their homemade banchan, kimchi was amazing and fresh. Their menu has all the traditional Korean soups, bibimbop, meats and stir fry options. We started with the seafood pancake appetizer which was a little thick for my taste and didn't have as much seafood as I've had at other places. Their galbi tang was amazing! Broth was very rich and you can tell it was cooked over time. Loaded with radish, short rib and sweet potato noodles. Comes in a big portion. The spicy squid was cooked tender and juicy. Not super spicy which was perfect for me.

I tried the japchae and combi with kalbi and bulgogi. The japchae was perfectly cooked. The bulgogi was good but those hot plates can dry it out quick. The kalbi was very tough and hard to eat, definitely the toughest of all the places I have been in the area so far. Macheko has the best kalbi, tender and off the bone. I liked the pickled radish. Friendly service. It was really cold inside, so maybe winter is not the best time to visit this small place.

    Jjajangmyeon, this was great!

We came here today after moving to Ann Arbor yesterday and needed to have our traditional Korean "moving day meal" to commemorate the occasion! Thankfully Arirang is just down the street from us and we're sure to come back to try more, but here's what we thought on our first visit: Jjajangmyeon: 7.9/10 points! Their Korean Chinese black bean noodles were pretty tasty! My husband is super picky about these noodles and thought these were pretty dang good compared to other places he's tried in the US. Unfortunately I docked them a bit because they don't serve theirs with thinly sliced cucumber which is a bummer as its an essential topping to the dish. But at least they gave me the yellow pickled radish when I asked for it! Tangsuyuk: 5/10 points. I thought these were just okay, the oil tastes like it might need to be changed out and they got soggy really quickly since the sauce is poured right over top and they weren't as crisp and flavorful as I hoped. Side dishes: 8/10 I wish there was more variety but their kimchi, pickled radish and stewed potatoes were all pretty solid, with the potatoes lagging a bit behind in flavor compared to the first two. Service: it took quite a while to receive our food from the kitchen, but it seems like they are very short staffed as there was only one person taking orders for the whole restaurant too. We'll be back! Planning on updating my review often!

    Galbi Tang hit the spot!!!

I needed something brothy & soupy for wintery weather and Arirang didn't disappoint! I called in for Galbi Tang (short rib soup) and it was delightful. It seemed like they made it fresh because I was quoted 25 minutes for a wait time but I didn't mind. It was perfect: two large pieces of bone-in beef, perfectly cooked daikon radish, some clear glass noodles, egg (new to me but I still enjoyed it) all swimming in a beautifully rich clear broth. It was wonderfully flavorful and actually reminded me a bit of sul lung tang (a milky beef bone soup that I used to eat in Los Angeles on a regular basis to cure my hangovers!) with the pepperiness to it. It felt so homey and comforting - just what I needed. It came with a generous portion of rice, a little bit of fish cake banchan and I sprang for a 4oz side of kimchi. I come to this plaza often for Tsai Grocery & will be frequenting Arirang more often!!

Our waitress is super nice and friendly here. She brought us out a new utensil box since ours had no chopsticks in it. She's quick, efficient, sweet and diligent too. We got the fried tofu and the dak bokkeum. This place feels more chilled than the hectic chaos of the restaurants downtown. We tend to feel rushed when we eat downtown, which was earlier today. The tea is nice, not barley or roasted corn tea, but it's roasted corn silk tea, it's a much more subtle taste of corn than the roasted corn. I like it. The banchans came out and they looked fresh and yummy. The potatoes, the kimchi, white shredded radish and the bean. They were all fresh and delicious. The Kimchi is fresh and crunchy. The potatoes are nicely seasoned as are the radish and the beans too. The kimchi is spicier than most, but I like it. The fried tofu was good with a bit of kimchi slice and some of the dipping sauce too. The dak bokkeum came out and it smelled and looked good. It was tasty. The meat was super tender, spicy and delicious. The food was all yummy here, including the banchans. The service was great, so nice, welcoming and friendly here. They accept all cards here too. Overall fantastic experience here at Arirang. We will be back here again for sure.

Place: This place is your if you miss Korean food but don't know where to go kind of place. It is off campus but it really hits the hot spot for foods that you are craving. Service: The service was a little slow but it seemed like there was only one waitress for the whole restaurant. (I know how that feels, I have been there when I was working as a waitress). Food/price: The food is overall good but I prefer other Korean restaurants that are closer to where I live. I got a stew that was really good. The pancake was not the best and wish it would be more fresh. The price is overall worth. Audience: It is good for families and friends. I saw a lot of people come in to hang out and eat Korean food on a cold night. Recommend/tips? I would recommend this place but this is not my to go Korean place to go.

This place is aligned fairly well though with food in Korea though ie not highly westernized. This place is in the center of the college area on Liberty and State street. The selection is not extensive but the basics are here including BBQ. Side dishes are decent, Kimchi, which is fundamental to any Korean meal and varies by region, is always included and people have strong opinions about. Theirs is OK but not top notch. Other side dishes are decent. Whatever we ordered, BBQ, Yuk Gae Jang, Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap (Rice. Vegetables and beef inn stone pot), other was pretty good.....just like Seoul Garden used to be before ownership change. We used to go almost exclusively to Seoul Garden near the mall off Boardwalk but after ownership change stopped as the taste changed significantly and not for the better. Its nice to have The Seoul is an option. They have beer and soju (Ubiquitous Korean liquor in Korea that along with Kimchi is many Koreans blood) Environment of the restaurant is modern but still a bit cozy. Overall, definitely worth a try. While we are at it, I have spent allot of time in Japan on business (some vacationing too) and I know it's trendy to go there now especially with the exchange rate, and by all means go, allot to see and experience (and eat!) there. But don't overlook Korea. The two countries have a torrid history and don't want to admit they are similar in many ways....but they are and Korea is loaded with great places to go and food to eat. Traveling can be done on any budget, feel free to reach out if you want to learn more. Also love to hear from experienced travelers, love to learn of new places and things to do.

The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.
