The BEST Korean restaurant in Ann Arbor! We got: 1. Bu Da Jigae Ramyun: Was really craving kimchi ramen, so this really hit the spot!! Very flavorful soup (perfect amount of spice, but not too spicy). Perfect ramen texture (the right amount of Al Dende). And lots of protein! 2. Kalbi Tang: Soup was so flavorful, and the meat was so tender! Was very hearty. Adding/stirring in rice was a good touch. 3. Dub Bok Ki: Easily the best I've ever had!! The flavor and texture were perfect!! (Spicy, but not too spicy. Soft, but not too soft.) All dishes had very reasonable portions for their affordable costs of ~$13 each. I am so glad this restaurant is on campus. This is one of the only Korean places that feels authentic and tastes like home. Whenever I'm homesick, I'll come here for a budae jjigae and eat to my heart's content. They also serve barley tea on the side. I'm really sad about Kangs. I used to rave about it and tell everyone and make sure I come a few times a year. My best friend and I have a lot of memories here and it was always one of my favorite places but it's changed and not for the best. First, they changed the interior some. It had more of a cutesy vibe than it used to which is fine just not what I would prefer. The tables they got were loose and we couldn't put our arms on the table without the table almost flipping all our food to the ground. We gave the loose screw to the worker so he knew. As far as service, our food came out on a reasonable time but other than that, everything's self serve and you even order from an app which is weird to me because you can't ask any questions. The food itself was disappointing. First, Kang's got rid of my favorite stew, yukgaejang so I had to order something else. I got budae jjigae and it was a little disappointing. There was practically no broth in the bowl, the noodles were hard, and the tofu wasn't good. My friend said her soup was okay but not as good as she had gotten from here before. Tried this place today for the first time and thought it was very good! Got the beef bibimbap. Nice portion size buy kind of skimped on the beef. It was served very under seasoned, but the chili and sesame soy sauces that they have on the tables enabled me to make it exactly as hot as I wanted. Let's just say that I used most of the chili sauce in the bottle lol. Rice was cooked perfectly and the veggies were fresh and crisp. Ordering process is kind of convoluted using a QR code on the table and you have to get your own water and tea. Kind of a "semi service" situation of you chose to dine in. The menu has all the tried and trues but we started with the kalbi-tang. My mom makes a mean ass Kalbi-tang and hit damn, Kang's kalbi tang was kookin. This was rich and soul-soothing....the broth was deeply flavorful without being heavy, packed with chunky short rib pieces that was tender and not too overly loaded with fat. (You know what I'm talking about, we've all experienced it) Next came the hot stone bibimbap. The sizzling bowl arrived piled high with a colorful array of crisp vegetables, savory marinated beef, and a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg. Just take a look at the pics. They don't lie. A quick stir revealed beautifully charred rice at the bottom, offering that irresistible crispy texture that goes....."krunnnnnch". The combination of fresh, crunchy vegetables with warm, seasoned rice made every bite a perfect balance of flavor and texture. And can't forget the kimchee pajeon. These savory pancakes were a standout because for one, this was the first time I had such a dish and they weren't overpowered by tons of kimchi. This to me was a standout. I was hoping that the new ownership would maintain the quality we've expected from Kang's for decades, but the menu changes are bizarre and disappointing. Beef prices are up, so I can understand taking something like kalbi off the menu, but jap chae? Soondubu? The pancakes? When the owners said this was a deliberate change to get with the times, I was even more disappointed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nothing about the old Kang's needed to be fixed, and now Ann Arbor's down a stalwart Korean diner. Guess I'll be getting Macheko for my fix from now on, if not the kimbap from Hola Seoul. Came to Kang's right when it opened. I would suggest coming early for lunch if you want to eat it fills up fast. The Kalbi was solid for $15 nice portions of meat and the dressing for the salad is flavorful. The dish also comes with Kim chi and bean sprouts Kim chi is a little diluted for my taste, I like the chili and garlic to be much stronger. My wife's spicy stir fried beef was amazing as well. Definitely a great spot for take out with very reasonable prices. If you do eat in your order right when you walk in at the counter than someone from the kitchen brings you the food, you leave your food at the table when you are done. read more

Kang's used to be my absolute favorite place in Ann Arbor to get Korean food, and I especially loved their kimchi jigae. Cute, little restaurant with a small amount of indoor seating. Easy to order, cafe style right when you walk in. Pictures of menu items near the order counter for anyone unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. Had the beef bibimbop and pork potstickers. Both were absolutely excellent and delivered to the table within 20 minutes of ordering. Friendly staff and canned sodas/bottled water available for purchase. No alcohol that I saw. Extremely rude manager in this restaurant. We ordered three dishes and one was lost ( not counting for the bill, and we found the issue before leaving, so it's solved) and one was ordered wrong. We called to the restaurant and the manager began with the sentence "we will not return your money at all." Whatever the reason he indifferently provided, the whole attitude irritated us. He kept conveying that he thought we were wrong to not understanding Korean, we deserved what we got, and he didn't intend to solve any issue because the issue was made by us. We totally didn't want to argue with the manager, but his constant blaming made us stress out and we had to defend. I was craving some traditional Korean food after eating some strange and odd flavored Korean food at Miss Kim's. Ordered the kimchi jjigae soup as part two of my Korean meal. Order at the counter and they will bring the food out to your table, on a tray. They even serve free barley tea here and the prices are quite reasonable here, they don't nickel and dime you for everything like at the other place. It's not a big spot but service is quick and people come and go quickly and efficiently. There are 27 seats. The kimchi banchan and the bean sprouts were good, way better than Kim's down the street. This place was jam packed when we arrived around 2pm. It's a small place, tucked away, but it packs a punch. Definitely come here if you're craving some authentic Korean dishes. Everything comes out hot and fresh, well worth the wait! We ordered the Korean pancakes (seafood). I have no clue what my friend ordered (had noodles, seafood, and broth/veggies). The pancakes (4 of them) were HOT (temp), crunchy outside and soft inside packed with seafood. A soy sauce of some kind comes in the side. I ordered the Soon Tofu Jigae. If you're a newb like me, be sure to crack your raw egg in ASAP (that's why the "soup" is served boiling!). It comes with a dish of rice and two sides (kimchi and bean sprouts). This is one of the many Korean restaurants in the Downtown Ann Arbor area. Unless you want to smell strongly of Korean food, I'd recommend running in, paying for the food, and getting it to go. Even if you're only there for under a minute, you will still smell like Korean food. Kang's is not my go-to, but there are a couple things here that Kang's does well. Also, if you like sweet kimchi, go to Kang's. * Galbi Tang - Probably the best in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. It's super oily but that's what gives it a lot of flavor. It's seasoned and salted well, with a good portion of kalbi, glass noodles, and radish. A great meal for rainy days or if you're feeling under the weather. * Dolsot bibimbap - I don't know what it is, but Kang's is the place to go for a hot stone bowl bibimbap. That means you'll have to eat in here though, which can get pretty crowded. * Kimchi fried rice - Again, if you like sweet kimchi, the fried rice here is pretty damn good. Relatively big portions too. Greasy and oily, all the good stuff. It's affordable for college students and great if you're out and about. Grab some Kang's and bring it to a study spot. Make everyone jealous around you because you're eating some good smelling and tasty Korean food. read more

While we were on Ann Arbor a couple of weeks ago my cousin wanted to show us one of his favorite restaurants. This is a Korean restaurant that is very famous for their soups. We had Sam Sun Jam Bong, Yook Gae Jang and Bibimbap. The three were pretty good specially with the rainy weather, basically noodle soup with different vegetables and proteins, now as a Mexican I'd have to say these dishes are a good comparison to our stews and I believe that's why I liked them so much. I believe a 10 dll meal (each) would be very cheap especially if your date or partner are not super hungry because when you ask for to go the containers are pretty big plus if you add the big amount of rice they include both of you will be full. We ordered Kang's take out, and I was pretty put off from the start because the cashier asked me to wait outside and it was raining. Another person walked in while I was waiting outside, so I went back in to get our food. I expected to get the traditional ban chan, or side dishes, with our to go order because the prices were the same as dining in, but we did not get any with our order. On our way to Yee Siang Restaurant when we happen to drive around the street where this Korean restaurant was located. Either I was just hungry or the food tasted amazing. Any rice bowl with fried egg or sunny side up sounds good to me. Tried their chicken bibimbap, good flavor and just the right amount of rice and shredded vegetables on the bowl. The pot stickers with the dipping sauce was also very good. My husband ordered the clear broth non spicy beef soup with transparent vermicelli noodles...i can almost say that it was authentic Korean all the way if they used a bit bigger noodles for the soup or japjae. Each order was served with a small size plate of kimchi. For 2 people, we paid $33 total with tip but no drinks. Water is provided free, self service. Pay as you order. Clean as you go. The restroom was located in the basement. Careful with your steps. Parking is free on Sundays. But beware of towing trucks when you park. Definitely will come back.
