Tacos A La Carte (pickup order) - Campechana, Carnitas, Barbacoa, Al Pastor... Elote (Small) and Salsas
    Linda I.

Reliable option for tasty, authentic tacos! Highly recommend ordering tacos a la carte and trying a few. They are well sized, not too small but not overly large. 2-4 tacos is probably a good amount on average, depending on how hungry you are. (I would minimally do 3 because I love food, 4 will really fill me up. My SIL who manages to actually savor eating slowly and stop when she's full - something I've yet to master - can handle 2 :)). Love the elote on the side as well. Recommend getting the larger size here! The small is maybe 2.5inches ish of a smaller corn cob so I'm assuming large is the full size. I haven't tried all the tacos yet so not sure on my favorites, but last night I got Carnitas, Campechana (which is generally a favorite of mine, Chela's version is very tasty), Al Pastor, and Barbacoa and all were delicious. Served up with well seasoned/marinated meats, on corn tortilla, with onion, cilantro, and lime. Salsas are great too and worth adding on - I tried the red hot one and the green salsa. Took a bite of my husband's Nacho Grande as well and that was good too! I still think tacos are really where it's at but good option for nachos if you're having a craving for that. Small lot on the corner of some pretty busy streets (Stadium and Maple) which could potentially make getting in and out for pickup a little trickier, but I didn't have any issues.

*I never write reviews but I feel like this is necessary* This place used to be really really good. We're talking best tacos in town but over the last few months the quality and portion sized have majorly gone downhill. Chicken is dry, my tacos don't have enough meet to fill either side when I take a bit of the ends, and the chips (this has always been the case for me) are still always stale. But without the good food to make up for it it really isn't worth it a

Authentic, fast, friendly staff! This is my go to spot for campechanas and birria. Best Mexican food in all of Ann Arbor.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in A2. The fish tacos special are my favorite. No a strong fish taste, service is always excellent. Definitely recommend

    Queso was unreal

First time at chelas and loved it. I'm from San Diego so my bar for good Mexican food is really high and Chela's truly impressed me. Highly recommend the barbacoa and queso. Didn't love the chicken tamale or salsas, and wish tortilla chips were hot and saltier, but overall experience was great, and nice service.

Prompt service with three guys assembling the orders, which makes it a great place for take out. Large patio but rathy sunny during the lunch hour. The awning helps but can't keep out all the rays. The tacos and tomales were not bad. I have been craving chorizo and they had a version with carne. The chicken stuffing was moist in the tomale. The food felt a bit generic and could use an extra dose of love and seasoning. The lunch special also came with rice and beans and a drink.

One door to enter and the other for the exit. Arrows and directions and spacing stickers on the floors. Salsa requests at the tables by the to go orders and the soda cooler. The Tamale is mostly cornmeal and very little chicken, it still tastes good, but would be better with more chicken inside of it. Their hot salsa has a high rounds-house kick to it, still burns where the it briefly touched my lip after a bite. The fish taco and the chipotle tacos were both tasty. The tilapia isn't breaded and the slaw is a nice accompaniment. The chipotle chicken isn't spicy but still flavorful. They use a blend of dark and light meat for chipotle chicken. Food is good here, we definitely be back for more. They have one in downtown on 5th Avenue too. Their good about social distancing here for sure.

Living within walking distance if Chela's is DANGEROUS! Really great prices and delicious food! My go to is the torta al pastor always so delicious and satisfying. I've gotten the rice and beans and they're a little lacking flavor wise so I usually skip those but I've never been let down by their tortas or tacos!! I always go HAM on the spicy salsa too!! A true treasure in Ann Arbor! Despite how busy it gets the customer service is great and they've really adapted well to social distancing! Always excited to treat myself to Chela's!

Was craving Mexican food, and this came up on most reviewed places in Ann Arbor. Did not disappoint! Amazing tacos and quesadilla. Loved the sides such as the guac and habanero salsa. Friendly and quick service too. Highly recommend!

This Sunday, my mom invited myself and my siblings to join her for brunch. The ambience was amazing - with lovely natural lighting and gorgeous table settings. The menu makes every dish seem mouthwatering and delicious. When the plates came out, they were gorgeous and the food looked so inviting. Unfortunately, the taste was completely lacking. If you're going to charge the prices they're charging, the flavor should be amazing in every single bite. We sampled four different dishes, and none blew me away. Some, were even borderline "bad." Here's a rundown: mushroom pizza - the description makes it seem like it will be cheesy and full of flavor, but it was very one note duck confit pizza - had three pieces of duck on it and was otherwise covered in hot peppers lemon blueberry pancake - more of a skillet cake - sauce was the best part, otherwise dry on the bottom Raclette burger - $30 which is almost comparable in price to a burger I had at The Four Seasons in Maui. That burger, was worth every penny. This one had absolutely no flavor. The meat tasted like mush - definitely lacked seasoning, and there was not a speck of cheese to be found. If you're going to call a burger a raclette, it should be oozing with cheese. grilled Romaine salad - leaves were bitter and the dressing again, looked delicious, but had no flavor. The flavors did not compliment each other at all - with the pickled grapes, taking away from the dish and contrasting very starkly against the rotten tasting lettuce Brown sugar oat milk latte - really the only thing that delivered both on looks and on flavor. Sadly, not high on my list of places to return. It kind of made me think of Vegas: lots of pomp and glam which momentarily distracts you into thinking you're having the best time of your life. But in retrospect, not very fulfilling.

Looks like there are yard games and it's family and dog friendly. Sat inside which was large and spacious. Service was friendly and attentive. Got a chicken caesar wrap, which I enjoyed. I'm sure others like it though I'm not sure why or how. Monday night. Two adults and one kid. Service was very sweet. Husband ordered an Old Fashioned with Markers Mark instead of their well. What he got was a super sweet cocktail. Almost too sweet to drink. He said it was fine. He didn't want to fuss. Let's just move on to the food. We both were feeling like a patty melt. I asked to add mushrooms and leave off the special sauce (thousand island type stuff). What we got was a plate with soggy sourdough stuffed with salty saucy pot roast covered in cheese and onions. That is not a patty melt. I looked up the description on the menu online and it doesn't say pot roast but braised beef. I get it after seeing what was on the plate and wouldn't have ordered it if there was a picture or if it said it was saucy POT ROAST. The side salad I ordered for a $4 up charge was great. Beautiful and fresh. Even their ranch is really good. I tried to eat the sandwich but it was too salty and disappointing. I wanted a patty melt. Pot roast isn't a frickin patty. My husband powered through his. He was too hungry. The waitress offered to talk to the manager and came back to offer one of their smash burgers. I asked if it can be a patty melt on grilled bread instead of a bun. She was clueless. I ordered a burger and said just put it on the bread. It came out after my husband and little was well finished with their food. Her talking to the manager took way too long. The burger wasn't a smash burger either, it was two tiny over cooked patties. Smash burgers are thin and with crispy edges. This was not. The caramelized onion fondue cheese sauce was the highlight but at this point I was just eating to fill my belly and get out of there. Husband and little ordered the strawberry shortcake dessert just so they weren't sitting there waiting for me to finish. Idk what that rock hard shortcake was made out of but it took muscle to get thru it. It wasn't dry just very dense and tasteless. There was too much biscuit to macerated strawberries. It needed to be dunked in the syrup to get some flavor. It's was stout enough to handle it. When the bill was brought out, I had to ask for an iced tea refill. No refills were offered or given the whole visit. Total was ~$73 before tip. This is it for us. They have a nice private dining room that I would have loved to consider for our company holiday party but only if the food was better. They are consistently poor in either the execution or description of their menu items.
