Rounded up from a 3.5! I was craving pho, so we decided to try out Dalat. We had the: *Dalat Chicken Wings (Vietnamese-style lemongrass & honey chicken wings. Served with sweet chili sauce) - Surprisingly good! not something I'd typically order but my husband wanted this. Good pick though. Given how nicely they fried their chicken wings, I bet their egg rolls are bomb! *Banh Xeo - don't really recommend this here. It's an awesome portion BUT the pancake part was way too thick! I'm used to delicate, thin and lacy. Flavors were good though! *Phở đặc biệt (Beef House Noodles Soup - Special traditional Vietnamese beef-base rice noodles soup with medium well-done sliced beef, beef brisket or shank, cut beef meatball, beef tendons and beef tripe, topped with onions & cilantro.) - I wanted this to be a bit more flavorful BUT all in all pretty good and a good sized portion. Not too far from my office, plentiful seating, great menu offerings not limited to just pho, and reasonable prices. I ordered the pho Dac Viet. It's not as rich and fragrant, skimpy on the meat. Their tripe was tender but the tendon was a bit chewy. Not a bad meal but if you live in an area w/ a boisterous Vietnamese cuisine flare then you will be disappointed here. I finished my meal, paid, and used the restroom. The gentleman that rung me is Vietnamese. They tasted good but were a little pricey for the bowl size and the amount of noodles and beef. I have Pho about 1-2 times a month and this was the most expensive for the least amount. The caveat, Pho didn't seem to be their specialty (only a few options) and was a very small part of their large menu of other options. Their sauce condiments might need a container update. I love all of the Asian food options around Ann Arbor. My daughter was getting her hair done, so this was a good opportunity to explore the local food. Dalat had some good reviews and Pho is one of our favorite foods. The shop is in a strip mall outside of downtown. It is a pretty cute little space with a clean aesthetic. Service was pretty prompt, but not the fastest ever. An older woman took our order and a younger woman finished the service. We ordered some Vietnamese egg rolls ( deep fried). With chicken, veggies, and mushrooms. I got the number 11, which was pho with the thin sliced beef. My daughter got the pho with meatballs in it. To start, our egg rolls were crispy and hot served with the usual sweet and vinegary sauce. The pho was super flavorful and the beef was pretty tender. My daughter loved the flavor too, but not the meatballs. I did like the meatballs, however. Overall, the food was good. I thought it was a little pricey, but that is Ann Arbor. Great option for Vietnamese! Especially if you want to try something new (ie they have a lot of Vietnamese specialty dishes aside from just pho and banh mi, though I do enjoy their pho!). My favorite dish is their Bun Bo Hue, a hot (temperature wise and spice wise) rice noodle soup with sliced beef and pork, and a lemongrass/shrimp paste/onion broth. Today the lemongrass wasn't coming through though, so I wonder if they've changed the broth. It's a really nice dish when it's cold or dreary out especially, and it'll warm you right up! We also got the papaya salad and "Dalat ravioli" (banh cuon) as sides/starters. Both were good but not amazing. I wanted to try their banh cuon because I just had this dish for the first time last year in Vietnam! Not really fair to compare to the food in Vietnam... so I won't :). Normally for apps we get the fresh rolls or egg rolls or chicken wings, and I like all of those more. Their hours on Yelp/Google Maps are currently different than what they have posted on their door (open until 8pm instead of 7:30pm). Perhaps to avoid people coming last minute? But for someone like me, I almost thought going around 6/6:15pm would be cutting it close (thinking they closed at 7:30pm) and might've picked somewhere else if we got closer to 6:30pm. Non-alcoholic drinks only, but they have some fun options. I typically stick to water only because I tend to try to avoid caffeine after the morning. Service is fast and a good amount of attentive. Interior is relatively no frills, and you could be in and out of here quickly if you wanted to be. For a more leisurely meal even, you'd be hard pressed to stay much longer than an hour. read more

Best pho in Ann Arbor. We're from Houston with a big Vietnamese population, and pho restaurants on every corner. We've kissed quite a few frogs and finally found Dalat. It's our go to place. Same fast and friendly service, but this time I got to try some new food. I was expecting a lot more out of this place but was disappointed. For one, the place was huge and lots of seating and they were understaffed. Next the restaurant didn't have any nice music. So it felt a little weird, awkwardly silent at times. Next the food itself was just about ok. I was hoping to taste something like Ginger Deli's flavorful spicy pho but it was not really that exciting. The tofu and veggies were nice but the broth itself was pretty flat and lacked the yummy cinamony flavor. It was my hope that something as good as Ginger Deli comes close home with more convenient timings but my hopes are pretty dashed for now. I guess I'll just have to learn to make veggie pho at home to help get through the cold winter days. read more

Since this is just a stone's throw from my place, I returned for lunch on a cold, rainy day to try a new entree. I started with my beloved Dalat egg rolls, which were so fresh and served with the perfect sweet and sour dipping sauce. I then ordered the Dau hu mi can kho. It is tofu, seitan, mushrooms, onions and pineapple sautéed in a spicy gravy and served with rice. It was wonderful, and every bit as satisfying as real meat stew. The pineapple balanced the savory components wonderfully. The cherry on top was the mango boba smoothie. As usual, the service was very friendly and efficient. I've been to Dalat before at this location as well as one in Ypsi and it's always wonderful. Tonight we ordered takeout (restaurant currently closed for dine-in due to pandemic) and it was quick and safe. Few people around, everyone masked and distanced, and they even sanitized my credit card. We ordered: - #2 eggrolls (legit some of the best I've ever had) - #6 cup of eggdrop/crabmeat/chicken soup (unusual but good, I'd order it again) - #16 bun bo hue noodle soup - #18 vermicelli noodles with pork Everything was fresh and delicious, what more can I say? The portions were all very generous, especially the noodle soup. The flavors in the vermicelli dish were bright and refreshing with the crisp veggies and sweet & sour sauce. Eggrolls = incredible. This order could easily feed two people for two meals, depending on your appetite. High marks for Asian food in the Midwest. A mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant located in a strip mall, simple cafe ambiance, good-sized open seating for about 50 people. Walking in there are booths along the right wall and open tables on the center and left. The main counter is in the back center. Came here for lunch around 1:30pm on a weekday in December, mostly empty except for a handful of tables of 1-2 people. Another couple people came to pick up take out while we were there. We decided to go for the lunch specials, ordering the Gà xào xâ ót (lunch special A $8.50) stirfried chicken w/lemongrass and onions in a brown sauce, and Bò kho (lunch special B $7.95) Vietnamese style beef stew with carrots, mushrooms and onions. Both came with rice. Lunch special A was a bit on the salty side, B was perfect, just like how I would imagine a home-cooked beef stew made with love. From initial visit this seems like one of the more authentic, tasty and affordable spots for Vietnamese food in Ann Arbor. Would love to come back and try their other dishes. read more

The broth for the pho and bun bo hue were on point. They could enhance the bun bo hue by making it more spicier. My other friend loved her banh xeo. It was a bit weird to me that they had mushroom in banh xeo. I have never seen mushroom in banh xeo until I went here. For appetizer, we all got fresh spring rolls with shrimp. I feel like every Vietnamese restaurant has their own version for the spring roll sauce. This one was lack of peanut taste to it. I think we preferred the peanut sauce than just hoisin sauce. I also got Vietnamese coffee. It was a bit water down. I think they used sugar to make the coffee as well. I generally prefer just condensed milk on my Vietnamese coffee. Overall: Pretty good place to get a Vietnamese food fix. We ordered Lunch set A with spicy, tender meat with a hint of lemongrass. The accompanying chicken broth/soup was the real star: light but with nuanced flavor. We also ordered the #12 combination pho. The broth is flavorful without being oily or heavy, and the meat is thinly sliced with decently fresh vegetables. Overall, pretty solid dishes, though nothing stand-out. The biggest snag would be the spring rolls. It should be a classic appetizer, but the composition of the roll was poor with all the meat and noodles on one side and wilted lettuce on the other. We even found some shrimp skin left inside. Would definitely be back for more if really craving Vietnamese food. Side note: There are some really passive aggressive responses by the owners to poor reviews below!
