UPDATE: I came back the next day and the owner was there. She remade the drink and desserts that we ordered the day before. They tasted fine now, I guess. She explained that the reason why our drink/desserts the day before weren't that sweet was because "they had just made the jelly before serving us and it didn't have time to properly soak" or whatever. Okay and....? The first thing I noticed when I walked in was this lovely sign that said "we are more than happy to remake your item if you are not satisfied". Tell me why the girl on the phone the day before made no acknowledgement of this whatsoever!!! That is literally what we were asking for and she couldn't even acknowledge it..... I even had to point this sign out to the owner when I was chatting with her. So all in all, they rectified the situation. But man was it a struggle and journey to get there. What an easy and simple solution that took wasted energy to get to. I don't know when or if I will return anytime soon.

So happy to have found this place. It will definitely become a frequent visit. The seating area was clean and welcoming. The barista was very friendly and answered questions thoroughly and even offered suggestions. The menu included so many delicious sounding items that we will definitely need to return to try each one.

As an Asian from California, this place is a little bit of home. They have Bambu also in CA. It's great to know there's a boba cafe accessible in the Ann Arbor area. I like how they have different assortment and varieties of drinks from boba, che, milk tea, smoothies, halo halo, hot and cold drinks to choose from. I like that they offer snacks like waffles, mochi, macarons and parfaits. I like how they have the endless toppings and additions you can add to your drink. It's hard to choose what to order from the menu, makes my eyes dart around like a chameleon, trying to find what to choose. I so far tried the Fruit Addict Che and the Honeydew Smoothie with boba which I enjoyed. I also tried the Bambu Combo which was okay. I like how they diary free alternatives for vegans like me, that's a plus. Also they have a lot of selections for vegans which I can appreciate! I got to meet Emily the owner who was really nice and helpful and she does a great job running the place, I hope that this place gets the attention that it deserves because Bambu is da BOBA bomb!

Cute little spot to stop by for dessert! There's a decent amount of seating here so it's perfect for a dessert date. I always get the bambu favorite! I didn't even get to take a picture because I ate it so fast ‍ Bambu never disappoints! The Vietnamese Che's are always delicious and to top it off, this location offers bubble waffles! 10/10 would recommend

My first time in a Vietnamese boba tea shop. I was overwhelmed by the choices and ordered a #13 Che (dessert drink) for no particular reason. The first problem: arrives in layers with no instruction manual. First sip: seemed like pure sugar, sickeningly sweet. Solution: stir it up, major mixing to be managed. This greatly improved the situation:critical that the crushed ice on top dilutes everything! Next time I will be sure to ask for no extra sweeteners, which is likely an option. Duh. I got overwhelmed when I walked in because of all the options. DuuuuuH again. Next time if I don't know what I am up against I really should ask questions. This popped up as the nearest ice cream place. The mochi is the ice cream choice. If I return I will sample that next time. PS get a thick straw and give your sucking muscles a workout.

A really cool inviting atmosphere, if you want something a little different from most of the bubble teas in Ann Arbor this spot should satisfy your cravings. If you come here I would recommend trying one of their Vietnamese Che drinks or their halo halo, which is a popular Filipino dessert. I absolutely addicted to their halo halo, I like mine with two blueberry scoops, but can also get mango if you prefer. The coconut meat inside the drink is my favorite, but all of the jellies they put inside are great. The service was very friendly and parking is fairly convenient.

    Gift card front

Had been looking forward to trying this place out as I had been given a $5 gift card. In short, owner informed me she would not honor the card as it is over a year old and that was her policy, an old card or some such thing. I had to look up actual Michigan gift card policy myself, but it seemed odd as I hadn't been gifted it terribly long ago but a year seemed ridiculous. I included a screenshot directly from Michigan.gov (which states five years) and both sides of the card. Nowhere is there an expiration on the card, and Bambu haven't even been open five years. The drink I had already ordered and ultimately just paid for was good, but you absolutely cannot take money for gift cards and not honor them or randomly decide what terms you want to apply after the fact. A five dollar gift card isn't going to make or break me or the business, but to me it seems if you're a business owner the last thing you would want to do is alienate a new customer walking in the door. Oh well!

I'm never ordering off of Yelp again didn't tell me it was ready until nearly 10 minutes after and when I got it, the lady gave it to me, informed me that it had been sitting for a while. Way overpriced, especially after ordering off of yelp and the peach strawberry smoothie that I got is way too sweet and overall just not good. Super disappointing especially for $10.

I was in NYC before and their Bambu store went out of business before I can try it. I surprisingly discover now that we have one here. Tried it, and understand now why their store in NYC went out of business. The egg waffle was soggy. The drink is weird. Big no no.

Be still, my beating heart! It's been 7 long years waiting for a Bambu to open here, after being a regular at their San Mateo, CA location forever. Sweet, icy, fruity, and creamy Asian desserts like Korean bingsu, Filipino halo halo, Chinese baobing, Japanese kakigori, etc. are a rarity in Michigan, but to see Bambu doing Vietnamese chè with fresh coconut, jackfruit, longan, lychee and all in Ann Arbor is nearly miraculous - or maybe just a really good supply chain from Madison Heights (our local Little Saigon, and site of the first Bambu franchise here) to Canton to Ann Arbor. The regular chè desserts are substantial - a meal unto themselves, especially paired with a pandan or bubble egg waffle. There's also the usual assortment of teas and boba, smoothies and parfaits, and hot drinks - but why bother when there's chè? Unique to this Bambu are the macarons, cherry blossom selfie wall, and fruit milks, for those in need of caffeine-free options. If you're looking for less sugar, the basil seed, pandan and grass jelly, etc. options sans fruit are lighter (although you can make those at home from canned ingredients). Go for the tropical fruit, you won't be disappointed. This is Michigan Asian magic, y'all. Treat yourself!

I was so excited to see this location pop up after having been to the one in Madison Heights!!! They have lots of dessert drinks, macarons, ice cream mochi, and even egg waffles. This shop has tables you can sit at with your friends and cute decor everywhere. Definitely coming back here and taking friends and family with me!

I have been to Bambu in Madison Height and also in California. I was so happy to see one open in Ann Arbor!! This is a Vietnamese specialty drink / dessert store, though they also have regular bubble tea, I think people should really try out the Vietnamese dessert drinks or Vietnamese coffee. 5/5 Fruit Addict - who doesn't like a bunch of tropical fruit in a cup with coconut milk? Although, I must say this is more of a dessert than a drink. You'll use a spoon more than a straw for this one. 5/5 Bambu Favorite - absolutely love pandan jelly and red tapioca, and you can't find these toppings else where. If you are scared by the bright green color of pandan jelly, just know that it's not from food coloring but the natural color of pandan. 5/5 Taro Lover - I'm not a taro fan, but I know a lot of taro lovers. It is mashed taro mixed with coconut milk (or don't mix it if you like), which makes it less sweet. And with the best topping: pandan jelly! The drinks can be a bit pricey, but remember they do use real fruit ingredients. Can't wait to go back! Warning: I once asked for no ice in my drink, and ended up finding the drink too sweet. So take that in to consideration if you want your drink without ice.

That intrigued me enough to revisit and try the drink out this past week. Thai Milk Tea, Small w/ Boba ($6.40) - As I was ordering, I was told that the sweetness couldn't be adjusted since the the tea was premade and mixed with sweetener. It's a little unfortunate, but it is what it is. On the first sip, the tea first starts with a somewhat dairy forward flavor, but immediately follows that up with an extremely roasted, smoky and somewhat astringent flavor of a very strongly brewed tea. About half a second later, an extreme sweetness floods the mouth but helps to balance out some of the smoky astringency. I'm not sure how they get it to be so smoky - I regularly brew Thai tea in an espresso machine and I've never gotten it to be so strong before. It's also much smokier than any Thai tea I've had in restaurants. The sweetness is a bit too much for me. After sipping a bit, I decided to save the rest for later and add some fresh brewed Thai tea to temper the sweetness down a bit. The boba this visit is a big improvement over my previous visit. This time, it's not rock hard; instead, the boba has a decent chew on the exterior while retaining quite a bit more firmness in the center. I found the boba to be a bit on the lumpier side and a little inconsistent in shape but it's not bad. Drink Rating: 3/5 Boba Rating: 3/5 I also asked for a small sample of the black tea. This is also pre-sweetened, probably on the order of 25% or 50% vs. a fully sweetened drink as compared to other boba shops. For my tastes, it actually right on the dot: not too sweet, which allows some of the natural tea fragrance to really be at the forefront of the drink without being drowned out. I honestly would get this tea as a milk tea without any additional sweetener added. Bobalee is a first mover into Ypsilanti. It's a very well run business, with friendly staff and great ambiance. As I mentioned in my previous review, this is a business that's worth supporting. Bathrooms - Single unisex room in the back.

When I walked in, it seemed pretty bare but I like that there was spaced out seating. Other than that, the ambience is definitely lacking. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and it was... not a Vietnamese coffee. Vietnamese coffee is meant to have a strong flavor and have a rich but subtle sweetness from the sweetened condensed milk. What I got was poor quality black coffee with too much sweet creamer. I checked out the ramen bar just to see what it was but it was also lacking. There were many options and I didn't see any toppings of any kind (I'm think they were refrigerated but it would have been nice to have them displayed in a fridge next to the area; maybe it was and I missed it).. I can also tell they are attempting to go for a third space type of vibe with board games and things but the space they have created isn't inviting enough to uphold that environment. As far as the service goes, he was very kind and patient which goes a long way. I asked him if he could just add a little more coffee so it wasn't as sweet and he said that he could just remake it for me and that he wanted me to enjoy my drink. It was far above what I expected and I really respect that. The drink was again, not very good because it just wasn't Vietnamese coffee, but the service was very thoughtful. I just didn't feel right asking him to make a whole other drink I would like because I didn't like the one I had (I'm not a Karen lol). I'm sure other fruity drinks or the dalgona coffee is better that what I had and I just happened to choose poorly off the menu, but I do strongly believe businesses shouldn't just add popular drinks to their menu to bring people in but focus strongly on what they are good at. It's always better to have a small menu of well curated and crafted drinks than a large menu of drink with some of them not quite perfected. With that being said, I probably won't be back but I hope they can find what they are best at, hone in on it, and grow a lot! I see huge potential in this store being quite popular if they make a few changes. Best wishes to them!

Several power outlets were available along one wall for students to plug in their electronics and hang out because this business was across from a large college campus. Two self-service kiosks were at the counter where you could place an order. A menu board was hanging on the wall to the left for quick reference. Just drinks were served here as no food was offered. The categories were milk tea, fruit tea, slush, chocolate, yakult, macchiato, fresh milk, and tea. Six recommended choices with photos were listed at the top of the board. I selected the second one which was the Tropical Special. This drink was from the fruit tea category which was likely where I would have made a selection anyway. Passionfruit green tea with pearls and coconut jelly were the ingredients. I requested light ice and normal sweetness. The tea flavor wasn't strong, and the pearls were chewy and clumped together on the bottom of the cup. The jelly was extra filler that added more texture. The price was at least two dollars less than what I would have paid for a similar product at one of my local haunts. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my experience at CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice.
