I'd been trying to get over for a coffee all day and now they are about to close. I blurt out my ask. "...any way you could just leave a coffee outside on the picnic table. I could slip the money under the door?" "Don't worry about it." Kyra says. "Just knock. I'll make it right now." "Thank you so much." 5:02 pm: I zoom into the parking lot, jump out of the car, run up to the door and knock. The door swings open and there she is...my coffee angel; coffee in hand with a smile. I know she is trying to get out of there. I grab the coffee, shove some money with a good tip into her hand. "Thank you so much. I'll write about it." I yell back. It's taken me a couple of weeks but herein lies my humble expression of gratitude to Kyra, the one who had the where with all to stop and ask herself: Who's in charge here, the clock or my heart? I love everything about RoosRoast; the music, the art, the bulletin board, the garden, and especially the relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stop and have a chat with someone in line or the lovely people who make you really good coffee. Did I mention the really good coffee? All of this run by the renewable energy of the sun. I learned from a young person (I'm 70) in line one day that the buzz word in commerce right now, is "frictionless"; luring us to fly even faster through our precious moments without obstruction. You can't go wrong with a tasty breakfast burrito and a soulful cup of coffee from Roos Roast, and enjoy it in one of their many outdoor dining vignettes surrounded their garden oasis is icing on the top. It was a perfect, mildly brisk day to sit outside in front of Roos, mesmerized by their carpet of bright colored zinnias. The deliciously comforting Cheesy P burrito with pork sausage along with a large cup of their bold hot coffee (nothing added so I could really taste the quality of the beans) made for a simple and perfect morning breakfast. I added protein balls to my order to up my protein for day - all clean nutritious ingredients and it tasted like dessert. The folks behind the counter were very friendly, all with big smiles, and patient with my indecisiveness and lack of knowledge with the call number system for order retrieval. This is such a cute and quaint coffee shop! I was visiting Ann Arbor for a couple days and saw that RoosRoast was a must, and it did not disappoint! The staff were so friendly and welcoming! They offered so many recommendations and had so much knowledge about coffee. I ordered a hot Honey Vanilla Latte and it was perfect! When I lived in Ohio, I picked up a bag of Lobster Butter coffee beans. I thought the name was cute, as was the packaging. Even though I grew up 30 minutes for A2, I had not heard of RoosRoast prior to purchasing that bag at the grocery store (Whole Foods). Anyway, I finally made it here today. No pictures of the drinks but I ordered a lavender & pink peppercorn hot latte. I was a bit hesitant of the pink peppercorn part but it ended up being delicious! My mom ordered their chai, and she said it was one of the best she's had (and she has high standards!). I went and found Rebecca who took our order to thank her for the recommendation. She ended up giving me a sample of the pistachio syrup to try out at my mom's since it is a seasonal flavor. I thought this was really kind and the best of both worlds!! I appreciate the welcoming staff as well as their ability to accommodate peanut and tree nut allergies - (i.e. needing to avoid almond milk & hazelnut) by making my drink safely. Roos is the best coffee I've ever had outside of Kona on the Big Island. I hate these trendy, hip little spots, BUT this one is hot for a reason. If Roos was in Manhattan there would be a line down the block. If you have never tried the Lobster Butter Love you haven't tried coffee. I highly, highly recommend trying it. It is so good. It really will ruin you for anything else. Hyperion nor Zingermans can not come close. I usually don't compare using names, but that's how much I want you to try it. Funky little coffee shop located just a few blocks off campus. Beautiful little location, with garden views. We were starving after a 3:30 wake up call and 6am flight so stopped for a little fuel. They roast their own beans in house, available for purchase. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The Perfect Cappuccino!! Very cool place to grab a coffee, fresh pastry, or even a breakfast burrito. Service was super fast and friendly. The place had a few spots to sit and have a coffee or stare out the window and do a little people watching. It had a very relaxing vibe. The walls are covered with unique art/murals. The best all around hometown coffee spot in town! I ordered the Matcha Latte today. Creamy rush (green!) constitution didn't disappoint. Although there was a line when I arrived, it moved quickly and I didn't mind the wait in this funky warm environment with authentic community vibes. Now this is what coffee should always taste like. I was told the honey vanilla latte was their most popular drink and it did not disappoint. It wasn't too sweet and I tasted both the honey and the vanilla but still knew I was drinking coffee. It's a very hipster spot, but hipsters seem to make amazing coffee so carry on, please. The service was attentive and fast, and they seemed to have an awesome system in place to keep it moving smooth. The place just looked cool and made you wanna sit down for a little bit. I visited this little coffee shop per the recommendation of a random IG post, and it was such a treat! The shop itself is on the smaller side and offers a limited amount breakfast items to accompany your coffee (think donuts, muffins, bagels) but boy they sure are scrumptious. I ordered the bagel which was delicious. The bagel was warm, flavorful and absolutely everything a great bagel should be (trust this born and raised NYC foodie). The donut too was like something I've never experience before. The coffee was next level!! I ordered the Lobster Butter Love, a Sumatra-based blend that has a smooth, creamy body with low acidity and nutty after tones. It's super drinkable and by far, the best coffee I've ever had. I would easily become addicted if I had one locally. Best of all, the pricing was reasonable and the service was quick and with a smile. RoosRoast cafe has seating available indoors and a large outdoor patio to accommodate plenty of people. They have the original register from their first store on display and lots of cool merch!! Came here 1:30pm on saturday. Horrible customer service. The girl looked at me like I'm an inconvenience there and tried to make me feel stupid for asking for a quad shot. She said "So you just basically want a latte with four shots" I honestly said whatever, this place has good reviews let me just try their coffee. It was so disgusting. I got two drinks, Mocha and a quad caramel. How can you have horrible customer service and horrible coffee. I'm gonna tell other people i really don't recommend this place. Yuck read more

What an adorable coffee shop just outside of the University of Michigan's campus. The interior was fun and funky but had very limited seating so it wouldn't be a place I'd go to work, however there is plenty of outdoor seating so on a nice day it would be great for hanging out with friends. BEST COFFEE IN METRO DETROIT. My addiction to Roos Roast started when I worked at the Dixboro Project. They brewed a specific blend for the restaurant and it is chefs kiss always had customers coming in to buy that specific blend (sometimes in bulk!) I moved 7 hours away and still ordered their espresso blend and drink it DAILY. I recommend to anyone visiting the area! Truly cannot beat it! Been drinking the espresso blend for 7 years and counting! The staff is always super friendly and kind whenever I've gone in both Roos Roast cafe locations. I'll start with what I didn't like, the coffee. Which is why most people would go to a coffee spot. It definitely isn't a location I would return to because it wasn't great. My friends and I all got separate drinks and none of us finished them. Which was unfortunate. The pros are the service was really quick from taking my order to getting my order. The baristas were very nice. The interior of the place is really cute although there is not much seating inside apart from a long table. There are three locations around the Ann Arbor area, we ended up at the Industrial Hwy location; easy parking, tables inside & outside, and all the coffee & tea swag of your hearts desire. There is an array of morning pastries if you need something more than liquid breakfast. The vibe is inviting & the baristas are helpful and very friendly. I read about the Lobster Butter coffee. It totally lived up to it's name! The Lobster Butter is a Medium to Dark roast with a thick buttery finish- and the crema head atop of my French press is one of the best I've had in years. Their roast is absolutely amazing. They have it down. I'm glad I grabbed a bag of whole bean to go. I've had it every morning since our wonderful visit to Roos! I really do love this charming neighborhood coffee spot. They are doing the best they can in spite of this dreadfully prolonged pandemic. And their flavored seasonal lattes are delightful. Not only are the flavors spot on and well balanced, but there is evident care in the construction of drinks. How do I know? Because despite selling their coffee in paper cups with to-go lids affixed securely to their tops, the RoosRoast baristas continue to crown their glossy micro foam with well executed latte art designs. Seriously. Open up your lids people and enjoy drinking these drinks the way they were intended to be consumed. A little part dies inside me when I see someone drinking a latte through the small plastic hole in a to go lid. But not everything is great. I do wish the food options were a little better. Plus, their signature drink... the long pull? Not a fan. It's a real head scratcher to me how a place that can do such good things with espresso can also put that concoction front and center. My thought is that it harkens back to some bygone era? At least that is my best guess. If my expectations for great coffee shops weren't so high, RoosRoast would totally get full marks. I have come to learn what to order to have a great experience, but there is room for improvement. However, I don't see that happening as this is an Ann Arbor institution that has built up some strong loyalty over time. They would be foolish to change. It would definitely be five stars if my point of comparison were the big chains. But I have seen the coffee apex, and while I do love visiting RoosRoast, it's not quite there. read more

I had to stop by RoosRoast while I was in town to grab a bag of the "Holiday Blend Coffee" because I missed it last year! Luckily, they offered 1/2 pound bags for $8 each. My friend who lives in the area loves their "Honey Vanilla Latte", and I trust his opinion so I knew I had to try it. I usually get the "Hot Chocolate Cold Brew" or the straight up, but wanted to try something new. Overall, it's a solid drink (12 oz for $4.50). It's a good mix of honey and vanilla. I personally don't love it as much as my friend (prefer honey and cinnamon, tbh) but I know many people come to RoosRoast for this drink. I'd still recommend it to people if they are looking for a latte recommendation. Friendly baristas and great coffee shop. RoosRoast is by far my favorite coffee shop in Michigan.
