Small coffee shop but excellent! Few small tables and some counter seating available. Not too busy at 8am on a Friday. I tried an iced Miel Latte (after asking "what's Miel?" - honey and cinnamon) with oat milk which was fantastic. And a Bialy, which was savory, sour (from the sourdough), with everything bagel seasoning and cream cheese and caramelized onion. Impressed by the pricing too! We are visiting Ann Arbor for the first time and heard about this spot from several sources. Easily grabbed street parking for 20 mins for 80 cents nearby, loved the vibe and energy of this spot. We went with iced lattes - the mocha & cardi boi - which the latter was the bomb - cardamom, brown sugar, and cinnamon syrup blend! Absolutely love this place! The interior decor and architecture is so charming; it makes for a great place to study or meet with friends. I always have a vanilla latte, but my friends typically go for the matcha. Employees are always super nice and friendly--great place to be! The consistency of the milk froth is on point The spices are interestingly blended ( Cardamon, cinnamon, and brown sugar) yet not too sweet, giving a bit more layer of warmth spices. Fabulous coffee and fabulous space but they lose a star for service. I'm currently dealing with health issues that have limited my diet to about 7 foods. I have no joy in eating, food is simply fuel to me and I have to take a ton of medicine to get through a day. This means no sugar no alcohol no processed foods or I go into anaphylactic shock. I carry epi pens with me. The one joy, the one treat I get to have in this life is decaf lattes. My body allows whole milk. I'm deeply aware the reasoning behind craft coffee spots only serving 12 oz. Lattes. That's why when I come in I always ask their sizes, and then I went back out to my car to get my 14 oz. Mug. I asked for an extra shot and tipped 30%. When she gave me a 12 oz latte, I politely asked for her to fill it up. She said she would need to steam more milk, looking at me like I had two heads. They weren't busy. I said yes please, can you fill it up? And she was just straight up rude to me. Ma'am, steaming 2 oz of milk is not rocket science and I'm asking for it because it might be the only food I eat for hours. That extra 2 Oz of milk is actually needed by my body. I asked politely. I tipped well. I'm pleasant to everyone. If your philosophy is so deeply ingrained that you can't be kind, maybe sort out a different line of work? I'm very sorry for asking for my cup to be filled. It's the one treat I get to have strawberry blondie. The coffee was decent! But not decent enough to get treated like that. read more

I went to send this Yelp page to someone today and was surprised that I hadn't reviewed them yet! In a town where good coffee is aplenty, Hyperion still stands out as one of the best. As a creature of caffeinated habit I have the usual gotos, depending on what time of year it is. Summer? It's definitely one of their delicious cold brews. Sweater weather? Lattes. Hot of course. And both are just so so good! I also usually pick up a pastry or a lil' snack when I'm there as they typically carry options supplied from great local bakeries. The offering changes regularly but you can typically find some sort of muffin, loaf, or breakfast bar. They also have this great chocolate peanut butter bar that is SO good. If I see it behind the counter I have to get it, no question. They roast their own beans in their flagship facility in Ypsi, though you can get bags at this location as well. We certainly have done so on more than one occasion! One of the other things I love is that if you go to their website you can "meet" the coffee producers around the world that grow the beans. Once you get your bag you can also hit their website for tutorials on how to properly brew those beans at home with various types of equipment like the aeropress, chemex, and more. They also have a coffee subscription you can sign up for to get a bag delivered right to your door each month (or every two weeks if you're like us and go through a lot of coffee). They're conveniently located a couple of doors down from the Ann Arbor Art Center and I love stopping in there on the weekend to fuel up before going to the AAAC for open ceramics studio. It makes this creative "me time" even more special (and definitely more alert!) read more

Specifically, I had a single origin iced americano, which I think was $3.25, but would have been fairly priced at even a dollar more in my opinion, because it was clearly outstanding coffee and a well made drink. I LOVE Hyperion so much and was beyond excited when their Ann Arbor location opened! I've already been there a ton and I love this location. Service is extremely friendly and I always feel welcomed in this space. I also really love the little nook by the window. Such a cute, relaxing space especially on a cold winter day. The coffee is, of course, excellent and it's always the perfect pick me up for when I walk to downtown! I'm also super thankful to not have to drive to Ypsi to pick up beans from them anymore!! The emphasis is all on the product here--the coffee. Not much stands out about the space. It's small with very few adornments. Maybe 8-10 tables and a short counter, with a few more tables outside. But nothing wrong with it as a place to relax with a cup of java. I got a cup of whatever dark roast they had on offer, and it was good. Very bright and fruity. Got a discount on it too for paying in cash. I worked a bit as I sipped it, and the wi-fi did cut out on me a few times, though this was no great problem as I wasn't stopping for long. I'm so glad that Hyperion opened a location in Downtown Ann Arbor! Driving 20 minutes to Ypsilanti back when I was living in Ann Arbor was always worth it, but it's nice to have something closer. The interior is not very spacious but it is the classic minimalistic look that matches the Ypsi location. There aren't many tables to do work at, sadly. There are four bar seats in addition to a few tables. Even though this location is pretty new, it seemed really popular already! The barista who took my order was super friendly and gave me great recommendations. We also had a great conversation about the current rotation of beans that Hyperion has been offering! Even though the friendly barista was the only one working at the time, he handled multiple customers and orders very quickly and smoothly. I got the cortado (espresso uses the "Titan Espresso" beans, tasting notes: roasted nuts, dark chocolate, graham cracker, and tangerine) with oat milk (was under $4.50, I believe) and it was amazing! The espresso was extremely juicy with underlying chocolate after taste. I thoroughly enjoyed my cortado and almost bought another one, HAHA. The latte art was done extremely well, too. I would highly recommend this coffee shop if you are another fellow snob in the area. The bean selection is amazing and I love how often they rotate their beans!
