It was a long day with meetings lasting 5 hours of my day, so I was ready to decompress with a bowl of pho. I can eat meat again on Monday, 12/28 so currently I am abiding the 49 days of not eating meat to honor and to help my uncle. I was the only one there, parking wasn't an issue, and food came out relatively quick. I ordered their vegetarian pho (pho chay). The mint and bean sprouts helped meld the flavors together, but I wish I can taste the charred ginger and star anise. I am from San Jose, CA so my standards are pretty high. When I pulled up the place looked iffy and couldn't use a paint job, the inside is outdated and a little too dark of a setting. The fresh roll though was made fresh and was still warm when I received them and it was three of them versus all other places with only two. It was surprising good as well and the peanut sauce was great pairing with the fresh rolls. The pho broth was just average wouldn't be a 5 out of 10. But not bad for the price and size. read more

Right off the bat, this place looks terrifying from the outside. The wood is very old, cracking, and twisted and the signs are missing letters. Almost looks abandoned. Then I went inside and it looks even worse. Pieces of the ceiling are missing, others are stained and warped from water damage. The smell of this place is interesting. Can't quite put my finger on it. I assume it's just really old and dusty? Service/hospitality is non existent. But I'd say that's probably a good thing cuz no pho restaurant is ever good if the service is good imo. All in all, this haunted trap house makes decent pho. I've tried their pho, banh mi, and hu tieu so far and my favorites are the pho and banh mi. It's probably some of the better pho I've had in town compared to places like Dalat and V Kitchen, although the broth benefits greatly from a good squeeze of sriracha. I'm intrigued to try some of their Thai menu, and their appetizers next time I'm back in! Service so far has always been quick and kind with payment taken at the front desk. Speaking of payment, prices at Pho House are very reasonable and I love that they aren't too inflated. I've been here several times and had the flank pho every single time. It's perfect! Yes the building is run down and most of the tables will be covered with dirty dishes when you walk in. Before COVID, I loved going to Pho House to sit down and enjoy a bowl of pho or the bun dac biet (house special vermicelli) with a side of egg rolls. The egg rolls are a staple for me! Recently I've just been ordering take out to support one of my favorite restaurants in Ypsi during these times of uncertainty. The first time I got takeout I ordered a bowl of the house special with rare beef flank, brisket, tendon, tripe, and meatball. I'm not sure if it was the packaging but the broth had an "off" smell to it so I would definitely recommend just dining in if you want to properly enjoy their pho. However, their banh mi are perfect to order and enjoy for takeout (especially with friends). I highly recommend the grilled pork banh mi. Their proportions are quite impressive as the size was comparable to the length of my forearm! I ordered one and it served as two meals for me. One could easily split a banh mi with a friend and still feel full. A great analogy I learned over the years is never judge a book by its cover. Pho House is a little hole-in-the-wall that is proof of that. The pho here is flavorful with a hearty amount of meat and comes in two sizes: small or large. I usually get a large but the small is still very filling. I've also tried the grilled pork Bahn Mi sandwich. The bread is crisp on the outside and soft inside and came with a generous serving of pork grilled to perfection. On top was pickled carrots, daikon radish, cucumber and cilantro. Pho House is definitely worthy of a visit when the pho cravings hit! read more

It's a little cute place, nothing fancy but the atmosphere is calm and nice. The servers are polite and you get large portions for your money. We wanted to sit at a booth by windows but there was a spider web and dead bugs, so we moved to another table. Lack of maintenance around the restaurant doesn't help your initial impression at all... I come from Southern California where Vietnamese food is plentiful and delicious! So my review might be a bit unfair...but after giving this place a try every time I visit Ypsi, it's honestly hard for me to even give it two stars. The main reason is that all of their dishes lack flavors. Pho itself is supposed to be flavorful. The broth is supposed to heal your soul! But I never get that every time I come here. The broth tastes water down, the noodles are sometimes dry, and it's just disappointing. I gave their com tam a try too and was just sad. It wasn't even served with broken rice as it's supposed to. I guess their banh mi is ok, could be better but at least it was flavorful. Their service is always good though. Some of their employees seem nervous around me though? This place is by far my favorite pho place in the area. The over flavor does remind me of traditional pho places, however, the broth is a bit more sweet than savory. The small is enough to get you full but I do wish there was a bit more meat in the small. The Goi Guon Vietnamese Rolls were decent, but I did enjoy how sticky the rice paper was. This is the WORST service I have had in such a very long time. I came in as a table for 1. There was no one at the host stand when I entered and then waiters walked by me countless times without even making eye contact. I said table for 1 and he pointed at a booth where I could sit which a gross liking table and then tossed a menu on my table and walked away without even looking at me. I eventually ordered a pho and spring rolls...super easy takes no more than 10minutes. There are 6 tables here and it took them 45 MINS to deliver the spring rolls and pho at the same time. The spring rolls are a joke. They are almost all lettuce with the smallest shrimp and no pork like they're supposed to have. The pho is quite literally just a mound of noodles. I read in another review that they don't have a lot of meat so I asked for extra meatballs... and I don't notice the "extra." Also flavor is bland. Even if they're short staffed or whatever acknowledgement, excusing or an apology would have been appreciated instead of being ignored. My Pho was served with lemons, not limes. The one thing that was especially unappealing was the condiments at the tables were sticky and gross. Honestly, what does it take to wipe them off? The place is also a big mess when you walk in. There is junk everywhere right at the entry of the place. The waitress was attentive but had no idea about the ingredients of the dishes. After my fairly dismal first visit, I have enjoyed delightfully flavored broth that is a touch acidic (perfect!), and significantly more meatballs, swimming happily in my pho. I have also tried the bunh mi, which is made on too softly textured, doughy bread for my preference (I like a nice crusty roll), but the filling is satisfying. The restaurant itself is still a bit of a mess, but service continues to be efficient and reasonably friendly. Final decision: A phine place for your pho phix! read more

Despite the harassment from the county food inspector, Pho House consistently serves me delicious pho and bubble tea. I have never gotten ill nor suffered any mal effects from eating here. This is my go-to Pho place in Ann Arbor. I grew up near a predominantly Vietnamese section of Silicon Valley and along with living for over 20 years on the East Coast, I've dined at supposedly the best pho places in California, Hawaii, and New England. This place gives these so-called A-1 Pho houses a run for their money. The broth is flavorful and the brisket and flank pho is among my favorites. The service was very kind and fast, and the food all tasted good. I ordered the chicken pho, but also tried some of my bruv's steak. The steak was extremely tender, and succulent with its rich flavour. I've cut off rice, so I unfortunately cannot inform you there. It did look good. As for my pho, the actual broth was very tasty and a bit salty, but I do think the chicken could use a little more taste. If you order the large bowl, it will surely fill you up. I have been back many times since last visit and one change and one theme that keeps repeating is the duration from the moment you seat, to order to getting your food. On two recent visits, it took 50 minutes to get our food... we seated ourselves, waited about 10 minutes to get our menu and anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes before we could place our order... then from there, it all depends on how many orders are ahead of your order. On a recent visit, we were 7th table on the list, thus it took 50 minutes to get our food. Based upon my observation, it seems as orders come in from the table, their food will be prepared first before they start on the next order... I would think that if the orders were the same, they could serve the food together... The food taste hasn't changed, it's the same since they opened... but I had to drop a star due to the slowness with food reaching the table from the order time. Great meal for a great price! In fact, it was pho-nomenal! (sorry I had to). Here you can find a deliciously satisfying meal for under $10, including tax and tip. I ordered a small, and it was more than enough to fill me up. I tried the vegetarian pho here, which was loaded with vegetables and made me want to pat myself on the back for being healthy while eating out. The veggies were very tender and soaked up the broth well. The tofu, however, was a bit dry/hard and I wish it was a bit spongier. But in general, the meal was very light, but filling, and didn't leave me feeling lethargic and weighed down by grease.
