Being from Denver and having extensive experience with amazing Vietnamese food I was excited to try DaLat. It was a disappointment all around. Noodle bowl had minimal meat and no flavor. Fried rice tasted heavily of sesame oil and the egg rolls were more Chinese than Vietnamese. So sad. I guess I have to go back to Denver for real Pho. Second edit in response to the owner: This is not a fake review, you clearly remember me being in your restaurant since you mention who I was with? You might think you are being some type of hero by replying to "haters" online, but this is far from reality as these are real reviews that you should take seriously. You come off as rude, childish, and unprofessional. You seem to have some type of superiority complex about your food judging by the way you speak of it in your comments to customers. Plain and simple, your "Pho" does not taste good. I hesitate to even consider it Pho, it is bland beef water that lacks the spices that make Pho, Pho. I'm not talking about MSG here like you tend to mention in your comments. There is no hint of any type of essential Pho spices. Lastly, if there is a surcharge for using a card you should warn the customer when they attempt to use it, end of story. But instead the staff seems to barely want to be working, let alone take the effort and decency to warn about the surcharge. Even the gas station will warn you if they are about to add a surcharge. Shady or lazy, neither is a good look for your business. If you believe this type of customer service is ok, then I wish you luck. read more

Amazing experience at Dalat !!!! We decided to try Dalat Saturday night and we had my special needs nephew with us. Our waiter anticipated our needs so well , I barely thought we had to ask for anything. He suggested food and drink items for us and even brought a side of ice , just in case the kids pho was too hot for my nephew. Everything he suggested went together so well , we thought we were at a pre fixe dinner. The food was hot , good and plentiful......bring your appetite when u come here. We even ordered desert ,which we never do, because we didn't want this experience to end. The waiter even spent time with my nephew showing him how to hold the chopsticks...... I've never seen my nephew laugh so much at a restaurant. It was truly heart warming. The food was exceptional, but the experience that the waiter created was phenomenal!!!! This was my first time here, heard about it from some coworkers. I haven't really had good Vietnamese food in the area, and this place isn't an exception. I've always had Vietnamese food growing up outside of Ann Arbor, so maybe I'm just being extra picky. Customer service was good.. fast, and attentive. The portion is a bit small for the price. Dalat is delicious, affordable and in my opinion, the best Vietnamese in Ann Arbor. A go-to for pho, spring rolls and egg rolls. Today I tried the Bo Kho (beef stew) and it was absolutely delicious, not to mention the portion size was very generous and included much more beef than similar dishes I've had from other places in Ann Arbor. DO NOT GO! I wrote a comment on google map and here I am, not because I am bored but because I am SUPER disappointed at this place!!! I ordered 3B and 23 to go. Imagine when you are starved and ordered $22 of food. When you open the containers, only half of the containers are food and at least half of that is lettuce. What you expected were appetizer and stir fry but they made both as salads. Ok, guess it's a diet. BUT, why the hell there are only ONE piece of tomato and ONE piece of cucumber????? EXCUSE ME? Can you be more "generous"? Besides that, after I left a comment on Google Maps, the owner responded to me as I was not reasonable for asking for more food. There's nothing quite like pho to treat a hangover or a cold! Sadly, the hole in the wall I usually go to in Ypsilanti (the Pho House) is closed for the entire month as the family is on vacation. So, to Dalat I went to fetch some pho for me and my wife! Ordering take-out was easy enough and the place seemed pretty clean, but when I got home, I was sadly disappointed. First off, the portion of broth isn't exactly what I had expected considering the price. Second, aside from the noodles, they really skimped on the fixins...seriously only 6 slices of jalapenos for two bowls? The last part that I didn't love was the broth itself. It was sort of bland compared to other pho I've had, both here and in Vietnam, but it also was extremely greasy, like an oil slick floating at the surface. It really wasn't quite what I was expecting. Even so, I ate the whole thing up and am feeling much better but I think that my business will stay with the Pho House in Ypsi once they return from their travels. read more

OK, so I took my family to this restaurant on our most recent visit to Ann Arbor. Mind you, we have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and in the New York City area, both of which have really great pho. I took the family, largely based on the reviews, which were generally good but also HILARIOUS. Read the back and forth between the owner and the negative reviewers - great entertainment! Anyway, we had lunch and ordered the pho (#11) which was excellent. Not as strong on the anise the way that you tend to get on the East Coast or as heavy in the cilantro the way we often see on the West Coast. But delicious and authentic just the same! For those who regularly go out to pho in high traffic restaurants, you will need to specify which meats you DON'T want, since their default is to give you a mixture of tai and brisket. Papaya salad (#9) was excellent as well. Really well balanced and not at all garlicky, which is the downfall of many papaya salads. Also, they cleaned the shrimp! Another downfall of some other papaya salads. The grilled pork chop plate (#27) was the most surprising of all. My son ordered it and we all sampled it. Perfectly charred with a crisp bite and tender filet, this was a great dish. My son had two orders for lunch! (This is not a frequent occurrence, despite his teenager status.) At any rate, we really enjoyed it! Might have been fun to see some of the drama described in the other reviews in person, but it was just an excellent lunch. read more

The space was as bland as the food at their Ypsilanti location, so I was excited that their move to Ann Arbor would refresh their vibe and cuisine. Sadly, I was wrong. The ambiance... it is nice and bright. The lime green walls were fun, but the overhead lighting was too bright. The restaurant was cold, and there was no music. Overall, it wasn't really a comfortable, inviting atmosphere for spending time over dinner. The food... I started out with egg rolls, which were not too flavorful, but the sauce was good and brought flavor to the dish. For the main course, I ordered a rice dish with chicken and vegetables. Lots of parking outside! We arrived around 5:30PM on a weekday and it was not too crowded. I ordered # 20, and my sister ordered #18. My friend ordered the spicy noodle soup (I forgot what it's called). Everything was really tasty, especially #18! It was perfect for a hot day, and the meat was grilled nicely and flavorful. The food portions were pretty big, and I had enough to take home as a second meal. They were larger than I expected, too. The Chicken Vegetables Soup had very fresh vegetables with the perfect amount of crunchiness and a wonderful flavor. One of my old favorites. I've been a fan of this restaurant for over 20 years when they first started on Cross st then Michigan Ave in Ypsilanti. When they first moving to Ann Arbor I worried they were not the same. Turns out they just took a couple months to fully get back in the groove. This may be my favorite restaurant in the area. The service is always quick and friendly and I dream about the food -- I could seriously eat it every day. The inside of the restaurant is clean and has plenty of seating; I've never had to wait for a table. I think I've tried everything on their vegetarian menu at this point and they're all delicious and super fresh w/ high quality ingredients. #41 and #43 might be my favorite, but you really can't go wrong. The bento lunch #3 is my go to for lunch because the soup is fantastic and it's the perfect portion. The star of the show for me is the vegetarian deep fried rolls (#36), though. Sometimes I'll go just to eat those and I always leave satisfied. They're so crispy and pair perfectly with the dipping sauce. Their hot tea is also a favorite. Don't forget to ask for the sriracha and hoisin bottles if you like to spice things up and always bring cash for a small discount on your bill! Dalat is a treasure. Very happy to find an authentic Vietnamese restaurant here in Ann Arbor during our visit from San Diego. We started with the chicken/shrimp papaya salad which was very light, crisp with light flavors, very tasty though. I had the rice vermicelli with pork and spring roll. The pork and the spring roll were both the best flavored I have had in recent memory and both had the right temperature and texture, could ask for it to be any better. My wife ordered the steamed rice with grilled pork, which came with a fried egg, cucumber salad and chicken broth soup. She loved all of her food as well. Only compliments for this place, including the decor, music, cleanliness and wait staff. Food was prepared quickly. We will be making this a regular stop on future visits to Ann Arbor. read more
