It been a couple years since I visited. Mainly because Sushi Time does great rolls and I'm not a big fan of rolls. I did check the menu online and saw they have sushi entrees and decided to try out the deluxe sashimi platter. It's the most deluxe item on the menu. I thought I should be a good sampling of what they have then. The menu picture looks great! What I got was incredibly disappointing.... Tiny pieces of sashimi scattered on a plate of iceberg lettuce. The egg cake (tamago) was freshly defrosted and still very watery. The shrimp were dried out from being too long in the cooler case and extremely thin. All the fish were such small cuts. For that price, there is no excuse to get that sorry plate of scrap. The presentation was poor. No shiso leaves. It doesn't look at all like the picture in the menu but more like something you might get on a sushi day at an elementary school. Service was novice was kind. Dining room was cozy and cool. Slow even for a Monday at dinner time. I'll remember this and not be back. read more

I come here once a year to see if it's gotten any better. This time, I was disappointed once again. I tried the Alaska and California rolls to play it safe, but the sushi rice was clearly old and a bit hard. The rolls were actually half-filled with rice because the salmon and avocado portions were extremely small. Oh well, maybe next year - but probably not. read more

Waiters are awesome , Owner not so much. The fish quality is nasty ! Just like the nasty owner. He has a terrible attitude and honestly just doesn't deserve to own a business. Food: The miso soup, as always, was fantastic. However, the portion size of the sushi rolls has been reduced drastically. There are now "regular" and "big" rolls. The regular rolls are tiny, and the big rolls are extremely overpriced. Taste is still good, but not excellent. Hit or miss service. I hate that they require a credit card over the phone for takeout orders. If this is required at least offer online ordering so I'm not giving some kids my credit card details! No issues with food. We have our go to order down. Depending on who is answering the phone they may or may not give us free salads.... Again frustrating. read more

Mediocre, overpriced, fell from what they once were. Something happened but this place has totally lost us. Our dinners have gotten worse over time, but tonight was the last straw. Dry, overcooked katsu chicken, barely edible. The sushi rolls barely had any fish on them at all, clearly portioned out to the point of being a joke, with tasteless sushi rice. I was offended to have spent a stupid amount of money for what was frankly overpriced grocery store level sushi. The pictures show the amount of fish on the roll provided, skinny, itty bitty pieces that somehow were actually served to a customer. You've lost our business. read more

Sushi Time in Dexter completely messed up my take-out order, and must have given my order to someone else. When I phoned them and asked them what they would do about it, they said, "It won't happen again" !!!!! Of course it won't happen again because I will never go back to their establishment again. The owners argued with me through the poor front desk girl and told me that because I had eaten part of it, that they could not offer me any kind of refund even if I came in to show them that they had served me an item with gluten in it. I've eaten in at Sushi Time and gotten take out and both experiences have been great. It's definitely one of the better sushi places in the Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor adjacent area and I'm more than willing to drive west to Dexter to get a fix here. It's just SO much better than what I've had in and around downtown AA. For my most recent carryout order I got the spicy tuna roll (good spice, not heavy on the mayo which is good), the Playboy Special Roll (Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, crab, cucumber with spicy tuna & crunch on top--delicious but definitely heavier and quite filling), and a few pieces of salmon nigiri (melt in your mouth salmon, fresh as can be). I highly recommend them all. Vegetarian? That's cool--they have 12 vegetarian rolls to choose from. They also have a number of non-sushi options like Udon, teriyaki and katsu. They also have several great appetizers to choose from which make great starters or small plates to enjoy. Prices are on par with most sushi joints in Ann Arbor but here you get what you pay for. I had ordered 4 different rolls for over $70! Did not realize my bill came to that much. Thought okay, for that expensive of a bill, must have great sushi and a good staff. Far from it. We opened the bag to find rolls that were barely even half the size of a Kroger roll. I even thought about breaking out a magnifying glass as it was so hard to find where they were on my plate. My fiancé stated that hers were dry and did not taste right. When we called on the phone, a younger man answered who had helped me and after explaining THOROUGHLY what the problem was said he went to his manager and could not understand what the problem was. We tried to work with them on rectifying our experience and they didn't want to have any of it. You won't be seeing any of my business. Plenty of better sushi around. It's location in a strip mall doesn't seem ideal but I had been there before and the sushi was decent for the Midwest. We stopped in for lunch and we both ordered the lunch special. The salad and miso soup were both good. I first tried the tuna sushi, it's color and flavor suggested it wasn't super fresh but there was nothing offensive about it. I then had several pieces of the California roll, this was OK but it's pretty hard to mess up a California roll. The rest of the sushi was not edible. The salmon tasted like it had gone bad, both the smell and taste we're not correct. After the salmon I wasn't much interested in eating anything else. It's unfortunate because as I stated I had been here before and it definitely was above average for Michigan. But unfortunately after this most recent experience I will not be back. read more

What a pleasant, refined surprise here in Dexter with the addition of Sushi Time.  Well, frankly, any new restaurant in Dexter that is NOT another pizza joint is a move in the right direction. Thankfully,  Sushi Time succeeds and excels. Nice job on the lunch offerings.  The Handroll special was well presented, tasty and screamed freshness. All the lunch specials come with a small salad and bolwl of Miso.   Ginger dressing is spot on atop a nicely presented small bowl of fresh lettuce. Miso soup is delicious.  There is an emphasis in specialty rolls. Quite a few to pick from with about every combination available. My daughter loves the Bento Box lunch. Great presentation and yummy. Lacking are choices for Nigiri Sushi (clump of rice with a nice slice of fish atop). Perhaps those options will evolve as the restaurant establishes itself and builds a following.  That speaks to knowing the demand. I hope the menu grows some as I'm a ravenous fan of Ikura (salmon roe), Uni (sea urchin) and clam. Also absent are sake, beer or plum wine.  I'm a fan and looking forward to Sushi Time being a fixture here in Dexter. read more

Friday night...felt like a sushi night to me...and found a four-and-a-half star relatively new place tucked into a former ice cream shop in the tiny hamlet of Dexter, Michigan. We could only laugh, as we were waiting to order, when a guy came in asking for a cone with 2 scoops of maple walnut! The sushi however, was right there. We tried a couple of their Signature Rolls including a "Dexter Roll" - a combo of shrimp tempura, cucumber, spicy tuna, some crunch and topped with both a spicy sauce and their eel sauce. A home run all the way. We also jumped for a "Salmon on the Beach". It is a big roll made up of crab, avocado, cream cheese, with a white sauce on it and a torch finish. At $10.99, it was also an exceptionally good tasting roll. Just as a basis of comparison, whenever I'm trying a new sushi restaurant, I always get a single, standard, stripped down Spicy California Roll to do a little benchmarking vs other sushi locales. This one was prepared differently than many I've had with the spicy sauce blended right into the crab instead of dabbed or squeezed on top. It scored a 9 out of 10 as one of the best standard issues I'd had. I'm throwing Sushi Time four stars this trip based on having a pretty standard stripped down menu but with outstanding, fresh, tasty rolls and a clean and pleasing decor. Will definitely be back to do Sushi Time again. Solidly recommended. read more

We had high hopes coming here based on reviews, but were ultimately disappointed with the quality of the food and the service. We went there on a Sat night around 8ish and it was moderately empty. We ordered the tempera udon, shrimp tempera roll and the sashimi plate. I was actually pretty annoyed when the young waiter put our udon spoon directly onto the table without a napkin underneath. The udon was decent- it wasn't bad. It was kinda sad that it only comes with 1 shrimp tempera. The rice on the shrimp tempera roll tasted odd, and as a result, the whole roll didn't taste right. My husband was completely offended by the sashimi platter, which was supposed to come with 16 pieces of sashimi. However, half of those were cooked pieces of shrimp, octopus, egg, and crab. The sashimi itself was pretty terrible tasting (it was quite obviously frozen and not fresh), Despite being the only ones in there for some amount of time, we had to wait for our server to finish talking with the other servers at the cash register before he would bring us our bill. It is like 15 minutes drive away from the house but Im glad we came here for Friday dinner! Great customer service. Great sushi with a soo many varieties!! I was craving for port katsudon rice bowl but they dont have it so I decedided to get the chicken katsu..i like the sauce of the vegetables but not the sauce on the chicken... i thought i was going to get something in a bowl top with egg mixture soup on the top! The name of this place now gets me excited. SUSHI TIME! For over a year, I've searched for a go-to sushi joint around here and finally found it. I love this place because you're not paying so much for the ambiance but high-quality sushi and friendly service. The sushi chef is the real deal. His spicy tuna roll may be the best tasting spicy tuna I've ever had. Get it. All the other rolls are colorful and fresh. The hot green tea and miso soup will warm your digestion in preparation for the sushi. There's also Korean entrees available. The bibimbap was a great mix of flavor. The only thing they're missing here is sake and beer. However, there's a Busch's grocery store in the same lot. Grab the booze and take food here to-go. A couple weeks ago, my wife and I did something we've never done at a single restaurant. We ate here twice in the same day: huge sushi lunches followed by Korean entrees for dinner. read more

As a super fan of sushi, I can say this is the WORST experience I have ever had at a sushi restaurant. I would NEVER recommend anyone to try this place....what a disappointment. The rolls (which are my standard rainbow and dragon) were dry, rubbery, tiny, and just overall tasted TERRIBLE. I couldn't eat it. I called the restaurant after getting the rolls home and was told that they couldn't do anything to rectify the situation and didn't understand why the food they served was unacceptable. They seemed annoyed and refused to help. It's also important to note that this meal cost $70 too....this place is extremely expensive for the sushi they provide. I've had better rolls from Kroger. There was no apology given, no chance to exchange the rolls, etc. As someone that works in customer service I can say this experience was unbelievable and I'll be taking my business elsewhere as well as telling others to avoid this place entirely. read more

We ordered tempura udon, seaweed salad, eel and avocado, dragon roll, and berry fairy. Berry fairy was unique and refreshing. I enjoyed it very much and it was served at the proper cool temperature it deserved. I recommend coming here just to try that. They also have green tea mochi ice cream for dessert, but that will have to wait until next time. Seaweed salad was a generous portion compared to most other sushi places I've dined at. I came in on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy. The service was good and the sushi came out quick. I think it's great that you can get lunch specials on a Saturday! Everything was decently priced. The combos are $9-12 and they come with miso soup and salad. The rolls were tasty and the sushi rice was perfect. I ordered the all time best combo, the crab and shrimp tempura roll, and the eel with seaweed salad roll. The combo was such a good deal. It was around $10 and you get spicy tuna, California roll, and spicy California roll along with miso soup and salad. The crab and shrimp tempura was a filling roll for $10. The eel roll with seaweed salad wasn't great. The eel was fine though! I just wouldn't get there combination again. Stopped by Sushi Time on a Friday evening. The restaurant was empty, just one other table. The menu is huge, they have a wide variety of rolls. We decided to sit at the sushi bar. The guy making our sushi seemed inexperienced and when we asked a question about something on their sushi roll menu, he had no idea. The owner was around, so he answered our question. He seemed nice. Probably the only person that smiled in there. Our waitress was quiet. Didn't really come around to refill our waters or ask us how the food was. Drops the check on the table and doesn't say anything. Picks it up and doesn't say anything, and then proceeds to pick up the check with the tip on it before us leaving our table... okay. Anyways, back to the sushi. We ordered 4 rolls. Presentation was a thumbs down. One of the specialty tempura rolls (Suzuki) was still warm when served but very greasy. It came with 5 pieces for almost $10. We also got Salmon on the Beach, Philadelphia (which was slightly fishy and skimpy) and the Mexican roll (5 pieces). Overall, disappointed. Great first experience at Sushi Time. Menu is quite extensive, lots of similarity between rolls with slight variation. Vegetarian roll options larger than other places I've been. Ordered Sweet Potato Tempura roll, Vegetable roll with carrot/asparagus/kampyo (added spicy mayo). Playboy roll (Shrimp tempura, crab, spicy tuna, etc) was also a hit. Generous on the ginger and miso soup was nice. Only negative was no refill on the hot tea. We will be back to explore more of the menu. read more

Haven't eaten here in awhile and thought we'd give it another chance. We did take out during the week and when we opened the bags we were missing an appetizer out of the order, had 2 salads that honestly had about 10 pieces of lettuce in them with 3 bits of carrot, and incredibly small rolls. My husband called to get a refund for the item not in our order-straightforward, right?! He ended up arguing with some teenager named Travis about not being able to give us a refund and how the manager doesn't do refunds, only to find out there wasn't even a manager there. He said that the owner doesn't talk to people or do refunds either. TERRIBLE business and absolutely awful customer service. Drive to sushi zen in Brighton--it's worth the $$ and the drive! When I went to go get our refund in person because I was told I had to come up in person and get it (only after stating how I would be calling regularly until I spoke to a manager or the owner and that I had no problem voicing my review) the young man I spoke on the phone with Travis proceeded to tell me he didn't appreciate being threatened by me and cussed out on the phone by my husband. I wouldn't exactly call my statements a threat, but my husband did not cuss one bit-I was standing right there with our 2 small kids. The waitress and sushi chef were very friendly. I went by myself tonight and just ordered a miso soup and the S13 - Ruby Roll. The soup was good enough, but I was not pleased with the freshness of the Ruby Roll. Something smelled a little ripe. I am pretty sure it was the crab. I might try them again while I am dog sitting in Dexter the next couple of days. If I do go.... I'll get a couple of simple rolls to find out if the tuna and salmon are fresh. read more

We've been looking for a sushi place we like, and Sushi Time gets a solid four stars for their food. This is based on an eat-in experience, not take out. Hubs and I always get nigiri sushi and a large roll, and last night was no exception. We ordered a chicken garaage and miso soup for Little Kid. We got salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and eel, which were all really fresh. The portions were properly sized. We also got a Dragon Roll, which was fairly standard - most sushi restaurants have that on their menu. The shrimp could have been a little crispier, but the roll itself was really good. Little Kid loved her soup and gobbled up her chicken. We had a couple tastes, and found the chicken pieces to be perfectly crispy and well-seasoned. Inside, the chicken was tender, not overcooked or dried out. The only con was the service - our server brought us our check while Little Kid still had quite a bit of food left. One of my biggest dining pet peeves is bringing us our bill and assuming we're through with our meal, when there's food still at the table and someone is still obviously actively eating. They are hiring a new server, so he may have just been filling in. We will be back for the food, for sure. Hopefully, they'll have a new server by then. read more

I love Sushi Time and love that it is in Dexter so close to my house. The Tempura Udon is really good! The broth is what makes it so good. It is well developed and full flavored just like what I had in Japan. Try the agedashi tofu! I recommend it. I also love coming by and getting their hand roll lunch special.
