The few times I have been here, it was great and in close proximity to where I live. A few of their options are just ok, like the vegetarian roll. (Not a huge fan). But the pink lady roll was great and anything with eel sauce! read more

Two salmon, two tuna, two yellowtail, two Unagi, and one spicy California roll! This is the DKY Sushi Special and it's incredible! Generous portions and perfectly prepared! This was also served with delicious miso soup and salad. The service and ambience are excellent in this small family run restaurant. read more

So fortunate to have DKY on the West Side of A2! Very diverse menu of Sushi options. Always fresh. Family run business, friendly. I have tried others and IMO this is the best. Dynamite Roll, Caterpillar role are awesome just for a couple examples. Recommend giving them a try! read more

Just moved out to Scio Township (from the U-M North Campus area) and suburban loneliness and despair have already set in. Upon checking my Apple Maps for nearby restaurants I was pleased to discover DKY is within _walking_ distance of my depressing new condo! Points just for existing and being nearby. My wife and I tried both the beef teriyaki bento box (pictured) and the tempura/udon noodle bowl. The former was surprisingly excellent. Nice flavors, nice variety -- perfect in its simplicity. The latter was unremarkable and a bit too salty. I can see this is the type of place that is hit and miss depending on what you order. I'll be back many times (by virtue of proximity) to work my way through the menu items. In other news: good service, not overly pricey, small but comfortable seating area. read more

Absolutely incredible. We just moved here from California (San Francisco) where we have had some of the "best" food. I've eaten at probably 100 different sushi spots over the years. Nothing tops this place. They deserve to be on a TV show or something. We will for sure be back! read more

Seems like it would be a good place to get a fast roll, but if you are in a time-crunch, this isn't the place for you. I thought my son and I could grab a quick lunch here, with 30 minutes before his appt. We ordered got drinks and noticed only had 10 minutes left. I asked for the order to go and it took them 14 minutes to finish, pack it up and for us to get out the door. Thankfully the appt we were getting to, was less than a mile away. Standard sushi, not bad, not great. I had the Spider-Man roll and shrimp shumai. The shumai was pretty good but how can you really make a shrimp dumplings bad. The Spider-Man roll was good, maybe had a little too much tempura in it though. Probably a good roll for someone new to sushi but I think it might have just not been what I was looking for. The waitress was nice and the place was quiet. But the reason for the only 3 stars is it was nothing terribly special and I agree with the other yelpers that it is just awkward in there. They just kind of watch you, which does make for fast service, or at least in my case. I did just get up and pay without ever receiving a bill cause it was awkward and I wanted to leave. On a side note I will be going back cause they are the first sushi place I've been to that had several rolls with fruit, like bananas and mangos on top, and I think I want to try them. Maybe next time I will think they stand out a little more and change it to four stars cause they are a solid 3 and a half right now read more

I have been working in Ann Arbor for almost 2 years now. Somehow I missed this place. I am so glad I finally found it. I haven't had time to explore the menu and I only carried out. Heck I didn't even pick it up so I have never even stepped foot in DKY. That said, the beef teriyaki bento box was simply outstanding. Thin sliced tender sirloin over perfectly cooked onion and drizzled with delicious teriyaki sauce, a few chunks of an awesome California roll, and two shumai dumplings, all served with soup or salad. It was amazing and only $10. I will update as I have a chance to dine in and explore more of the menu but, based on my lone experience, DKY Sushi should be on your go to list. read more

It's a bit of a drive for me; however, I really like sushi from time to time and there isn't any by my house. The place is usually not very busy inside, so I always feel well attended to. I don't always trust raw fish, but this restaurant always delivers fresh, tasty meals. read more

I'd never tried any sort of sushi/sashimi/rolls until about a month ago when I was in East Lansing for a meeting. A group of us went to a hibachi joint one night and after trying a few vegetarian rolls I was hooked and it led me to finally take the plunge and try DKY, which is about a three minute walk from my house. Wow. Family-run, small and quick, DKY offers fairly tame options but a good enough variety that you can add this to your take-out rotation and not get bored. Because of a fish allergy and the fact that I'm vegetarian I was, of course, a little anxious about ordering. Some places don't understand that I don't want my food anywhere near meat or fish. The meat part is me being Type A. The fish part is my very basic survival instinct. The first time I went in I ordered an asparagus, sweet potato tempura and avocado roll and some miso soup. I explained that I had a fish allergy and they were careful and accomodating. Since then, my husband (a carnivore without a fish allergy) has been bitten by the sushi bug and we have not had any issues with having our food packaged separately. Service is quick and friendly - pretty amazingly quick and while we've only done dinner the lunch specials sound great. Prices are reasonable, orders are never flubbed and the service is great. My only complaint? Turn down the heat - I swear I'm going to pass out one of these days when I go in to pick up my new favorite treat! read more

My fiancé and I stopped in this evening, just wanting to grab a quick bite to eat after a late work project. They close at 10, and we happened to arrive at about 9:20. We were not greeted upon entering, and my fiancé asked if we could seat ourselves. The woman at the register, was obviously displeased about something, and gave a curt reply and disapprovingly places two menus at our table. She then began conversing with her fellow employee in Japanese...here is where things get interesting. The woman, in her irritated state must have made the presumption that no Americans speak Japanese; and in this presumption made a mistake. I happen to speak Japanese quite well, and what she proceeded to do was to tell her coworker what fools we were. We immediately stood up, left the menus to lay where they were, and walked out. I will not be returning to this establishment, at any time in the future. If you want delicious Japanese food, served by a friendly and courteous waitstaff, I would not recommend wasting your time here. read more

I lived in Japan for 2 years, so I know that most of the time Sushi in MI just isn't going to be that great. Given that, this was the worst Bento meal I've ever had. That counts what I pick up from Kroger every now and then! The beef looked like what you get in a TV Dinner with that same 'gray' look, and was covered in CONGEALED 'teriyaki' sauce -- GROSS. I picked it up and drove maybe 2 mins, so it should have been fresh. It was served on a bed of sliced onion (?!). The 'salad' was literally a handful of iceberg lettuce - nothing else. And a dressing that had seperated into oil and I-don't-know-what. So my $9 lunch was basically 4 tiny rolls, a cup of white rice, and a handful of lettuce. I could not bring myself to eat the beef. Nasty and overpriced. I took a photo but I'm not sure how to attach it. read more

We tried this place a few months ago because I was craving sushi and we were on that side of Ann arbor. We decided to try this place since it was the closest sushi restaurant. Biggest mistake My 2 yo son always wants udon so we ordered the tempura udon for him. He has food allergies and we asked if any of the dishes we were ordering had those allergens. the waiter said it should be ok. I asked if he was certain because he didn't look like he knew and he said uhhhhh yea... Then I asked if he was really certain because my son was seriously allergic. He then said don't know and laughed. Wtf. He asked the owner who confirmed it was ok. Besides that, the udon was the most disgusting udon we have ever had in our lives. How do you make bad udon? My son wouldn't eat it and he eats everything. We actually didn't want to feed it to him because it was so so so salty . It was also way over priced. One of the most expensive udons we have ever had. The sushi was also not good. Would avoid this place. read more

Wasn't the best place for sushi but it got the job done (really close to my place) and it was quick. I got the spicy maki combo for 15$. Sushi wasn't really good but meso soup and salad were good. Service was friendly. read more

This place is edible and clean, but I wouldn't say any dish was actually good. My friend and I tried the agedashi tofu and a few rolls. The agedashi tofu was oily, not quite silky on the inside and not quite crispy on the outside. The rolls were fine, but nothing was particularly good. The filling was a little stingy, the rice was neither a great texture or flavor, and the sauces tasted flat. A solid meh. read more

I've only had the sushi here, so that's all I can review. Anyway, I'm obsessed with good avocado rolls and my husband loves anything with BBQ eel. We decided to give this place a try because it's closer than our usual spot. The sushi was good. I got a Philly roll, which is different everywhere we go, but here it said it was only salmon and cream cheese- no veggies. I have a weird allergy and need to know what actually comes on/in my food. I ended up with cucumbers in my roll, which I wasn't expecting, so I had to take those out before I could eat, which negates the want for rolls. I should've asked, but they should've had it on the menu. Tl;dr decent sushi, ask if you have any allergies. read more

C'mon guys. It's not that horrid. I visited on my lunch hour recently and sat down instead of taking out to test the reviews. I quite enjoyed my 3 for $10 lunch special, 3 rolls + soup or salad for $10, much less than my $40 Godaiko (albeit better) lunch. This place is new, so I think they deserve a little slack. I found them to be really attentive, friendly, and courteous. You're right, it's not terribly special. Sometimes neighborhood places aren't. It's not sexy and flashy, but it's A-OK. The one issue I had is that the place is really small. They were frying Tempura so I ended up smelling like fried grease for the rest of the day. A little ventilation would have made my lunch more pleasant. I can say my spicy salmon roll was the least spicy I've tasted in a while. Enjoyed my other rolls though. I'll go back, and each time I bet they are a bit better as they grow. read more

Rolls were just okay, nothing special. We got a good variety off the menu and they were all just okay. Also I've never ever had soy sauce so salty in my life. I only dipped my sushi in it just a little and literally burned my tongue. And the miso soup was gross too it was ungodly salty. I feel like I'm coming down with a sodium headache as I'm writing this review. read more

The only reason to go here is the 3 rolls and a salad for $10. It has lasted longer than it's predecessors (lulu's and sahara cafe), but I doubt it will last too much longer without some serious upgrades in the atmosphere and quality departments. read more

I recently had to travel to Michigan for work & about half way through I decided I wanted some sushi. I pulled off on a ramp which seemed to have a lot of restaurant & stores in the area & about a half mile down I saw this sushi restaurant. It was in a nice little plaza. It was later at night so it wasn't busy which was what I was looking for because I wanted go make this a quick dinner. I walked in, sat down & I ordered the usual Spicy Tuna Roll. The decor of the place was nice & it had a cozy feel so I was not anxious waiting for my food. My food arrived about 10 minutes after placing my order so the wait was not long. The presentation of the food was not bad. I took a bite & at first I was not sure if I liked it or not. I then realized that it was a different taste than I was used to but after a few more bites I was enjoying the meal & the food was good. It also had something stuffed inside the roll that made it crunchy. I liked that a lot. The one thing I didn't like about the roll is that I felt the tuna was not cut fresh but had been prepared earlier in the day. Other than that I enjoyed the food. Overall the staff was friendly the food was good. The restaurant was in a nice convenient location & the decor was nice. Overall if I am in Michigan & in the area again I would stop by for another meal. read more

Great, reasonably-priced sushi place that is "way out west" in the Ann Arbor area. I always come here when I am doing errands out here and it has never disappointed. Great lunch specials...do not miss them! And also look for deals online for dinner. Wonderful agedashi tofu, fresh sushi, and quick and attentive service. My favorite sushi restaurant in the Ann Arbor area. I'm a sushi lover and we go there almost weekly. It's a cozy and casual family-run restaurant. Food is always fresh and tasteful. My kids love to eat there too. Our favorites are salmon teriyaki bento box, w.k.o. roll, green dragon roll, stir fried udon, white fish tempera. Their salmon teriyaki is the most tender among all the sushi restaurants I know in Ann Arbor. It's always our first pick when we consider eating out. read more

It was incredible. Absolutely everything was amazing. I requested not to have Uni as it would be wasted on me and they accommodated the request. The complimentary sake tasting was a home run. I had to stop at Total Wine for a bottle of it. Each piece was prepared and explained in front of us. There were other diners at the counter and we watched them prepare other orders for the house too. Some many things looked so good. I cannot wait to go back. It was definitely a great experience for a special occasion. Not a hurried event either. Sit back and relax. Enjoy the service. Multiple seatings a night but booking is recommended. We were lucky and got in last minute as there were openings.

The sushi deluxe which I ordered tonight was filled with redundant cheap cuts of fish. The salmon was delicious but most of it was mid white fish. It came with a salad which I really enjoyed and was packaged nicely. The workers are lovely and try hard but need to be educated more. To be clear I am blaming this on the owner/manager. They should do a crash course on sushi for everyone that works there. Regardless I would happily go back, it's really excellent sushi and the rice is perfect.
