    Lunch bento with pork katsu
    Hannah M.

Perfectly adequate Japanese food at a reasonable price. They have quite a few lunch specials available around the $14-18 range. I opted for the bento box with pork katsu ($15) the other day, which came with half a California roll, some tempura, and a little noodle salad. It was a good amount of food for the money, but I will note the dinner box ($20) comes with more so you're not really getting a deal with the lunch box. I also really wish that the noodle side would have been replaced with a salad, and imo the katsu should have come with rice. A miso soup would have also been appreciated. They packaged up soy sauce, tempura dipping sauce, and some odd mayo based sauce that didn't really go with anything. I was bummed there was no katsu sauce, although the pork was tasty nonetheless. The woman working was nice enough in my brief encounter with her. They do not take Amex as an FYI. My order was ready at the pickup time that I selected and packaged well. Probably wouldn't rush back realistically, but it was a decent enough lunch.

Small restaurant with a very extensive menu. Had a lot of great sushi options. Service was good. Absolutely loved the theme as I am a big fan of My Neighbor Totoro

Totoro is definitely in the top three for best sushi in Ann Arbor. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. They have a variety of rolls for an affordable price. If you're looking to try something different but still sushi, get the baked lobster roll. Amazing! The interior is cute but small. It's a nice place to come with a friend or two. The service is always fast and attentive to your needs.

Tempura Udon in front. Sushi rolls from left to right: Spicy Tuna, Oishi, Hell Yeah.

Delicious food and excellent service! Hole in the wall feel but also very clean. My fiancé and I ordered a few sushi rolls (comes with miso soup) and tempura udon and everything was yummy. I don't like cucumber, which is typically difficult to avoid in sushi, but there were so many options to choose from. My favorite was the Hell Yeah roll - so yummy. Oishi is good if you enjoy cream cheese in your sushi (cream cheese taste is very prominent). We'll be coming back here for sure!

    Sashimi Lunch

Food is decent. The restaurant is cutely adorned with Totoro (the Ghibli movie) decor. It gets pretty busy during dinner time (~30 min wait) on weekends. There is no wait if you go during lunch. The service here is great and the waitresses are really sweet. They have a daily rotating menu of lunch specials but I typically always get the sashimi lunch whenever I come here. Sashimi lunch ($19) // (5/5): You get 10 pieces of sashimi, a bowl of rice, and a choice between miso soup or salad, for $19! The fish is pretty fresh. This is a great steal.

    Totoro Spicy Udon

Received two extremely large fish bones in my chicken udon dish. I have no idea how they would get in the dish, as it wasn't a fish entree. Will never return.

Totoro was a great experience with prompt service and wonderful studio Ghibli themed decor. The miso soup was solid and each component of the bento box was great especially the sushi. The sashimi was ok.

Not bad. No reservations taken, first come first served. Really noisy and it echos all through out the dining area. But the service and food was good. A recommendation. See my photos for more reviews with captions.

Dumpling Soup (Appetizer): Only two pieces of dumplings
    Nicole Y.

Came here on a chilly night which is why I ended up ordering the dumpling soup. The size of the bowl was alright for an appetizer and it came with two pieces of dumplings. The dumpling itself is fairly large but I was also hoping there would be more than just two dumplings. This is alright for an appetizer but would probably not order this again. I also got the Totoro tower which I enjoyed more than the soup. The tower was pretty filling, super flavorful, and I really like how they plated this dish with the layers of sauces. Came here during Umich's spring break so it wasn't busy and service was quick. Normally it can be pretty busy and we would have to wait 30min-1hour.

One of my go to's when I'm in downtown A2. My boyfriend and I like to switch around whatever sushi we are craving for but I usually always get the tempura udon with our order. Super tasty! Perfect for the colder weathers or whenever I want to warm my stomach a bit. Sushi are a nice size. Fair price for a restaurant located downtown. We've always had great services when we're here. Food has always been on point. Always feel satisfied when we leave! Definitely recommend!!

Veggie Roll and Spicy California Roll

Totoro is a cute spot for sushi in down-town Ann Arbor. It's themed after Studio Ghibli and has cute decor all around! In terms of food, I have high standards for sushi, so I can't say it's the best sushi I've had. It's definitely good, but I find it expensive for the amount of portions you get. Free miso soup for when you spend more than $10!

    Azalea - Firecracker Roll

I went back to Azalea for a family dinner and didn't realize they had changed their menu since the…read morefirst time I visited. The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

I came here with a friend for dinner and we were…read morerudely greeted and told that it would be best if we sat at the bar because they were busy. It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.

The sweet chili sauce is perfect. Thai Peanut Noodles (4/5): The noodles had great texture and the Thai peanut sauce was delicious. The tofu wasn't really crispy and I personally would've loved the option to add some meat. Lamb Dumpling (4/5): Lots of meat in the filling and didn't taste gamy at all. Limited time special. Shrimp Shumai (4/5): Really enjoyed the wonton wrapper. Shrimp flavor came through nicely. Limited time special. House Salad (4/5): Light and fresh. The soy based dressing was sweet, slightly acidic, and not at all overpowering. Warm Chocolate Cake (4/5): Delicious cake with a warm, gooey inside. I personally don't like coconut or chocolate and fruit desserts, but I still enjoyed this a lot. Creme Brulee Tasting (4/5) : Green tea, pumpkin spice, and ginger creme brulees. There have been some hit-or-misses with the quality of the fish but, I'm Japanese and, for me, "Japanese cuisine" is a lot more than raw fish and their kitchen (as opposed to the sushi bar) has always been reliable. Not so much anymore. :( I had dinner there recently on a Friday night. Ordered the tempura appetizer and 8-9 pieces of sushi a la carte. I asked the waitperson to make sure there was grated daikon for the tempura (I've had to ask before and the tempura was cold by the time they brought it, so I was planning ahead...) I was informed that not only do they not serve it with tempura, there's simply no daikon anywhere in the restaurant to grate. Seriously? First, how does a Japanese restaurant not have any daikon?? Second, if you serve tempura, this is a necessary condiment; it's akin to not having ketchup for a burger. I opted to have fried oysters instead and they were fine. The nigiri sushi I was served *looked* beautiful. Huge pieces of fish, nicely arranged. I'm not sure why Japanese restaurants here think "bigger is better" when it comes to sushi. Nigiri sushi is intended to be eaten in ONE comfortable bite instead of having to try to bite it in half only to have it disintegrate awkwardly all over the table. Why not offer two nigiri pieces per order that's reasonably (and correctly) sized? And then there's the sushi rice. I'm not convinced that the sushi chefs there understand that what makes it "sushi" isn't the fish (or the fancy rolls) -- it's the rice. Sushi rice is supposed to be flavored, while it's steaming hot, with a sugar-vinegar-salt mixture ("sushi su"), which is what keeps the rice moist and sticky in order to keep its shape, and also provide a foil for the fish. Whenever a sushi piece falls apart, it usually means (other than the fact that it's too big) that it's not properly seasoned. It should also never be cold. My simple meal plus a serving of sake, with tip came to almost $100. That's not unreasonably high for a Japanese sushi meal but I think I should be able to count on it being made correctly.

I saw so many people posting about this place on Insta and decided to come out and see if it was worth the hype. It was very worth the hype, the food was absolutely delicious! Due to wanting to try everything, as always, I ordered tons and way too much and ended up with several boxes, bags, and meals. I had a couple drinks, I think they were the x-rated passion and the pear sakitini. They were good, very floral. We started with their soup and salad, which were standard and good. We had so much salad, I did box it up for a couple more meals. Then we tried the crispy chicken buns. They were so good. Since I had so much to eat, we each got one, and it took me two days to finish mine. The chicken was crispy, and I like how the bun was fluffy but also a bit crispy on the outside. We also tried their iconic tuna nachos. The chips were really good. I would have loved a wanton chip instead, as other places do it, but the tuna was so buttery. It was almost as good as the tuna in Hawaii and French Polynesia. I liked to roe and avocado, which was also so creamy. We had a couple sushi rolls. We got the spider roll. It was so crispy and very well make, and the California roll with the kani salad and avocado, no cucumber, which perfect since child hates cucumbers and normally picks them out. It was very fresh and delicious. We also tried their wagyu burger and fries. I personally cannot tell the difference between types of beef, but it was an extremely flavorful, well-cooked burger. We split it in three, and it took a few days to finish my portion. The real star from that meal was the tempura French fries, they were so good and crispy, and very unique. Those are really a must order. We also tried the teriyaki chicken and broccoli. We recently had some very mediocre teriyaki chicken, and I was afraid it was going to taste like that looking at the dish, but it was not. It was so well cooked and flavorful and so was the veg, don't judge a meal on it's looks. It was worth ordering again. But the real, real reason why I was here was for their famous flying lobster noodles. That was really worth the drive. Their noodles were smokey and flavorful, and a large portion it took several meals and three people to finish it. I liked the addition of shrimp with the lobster and it was not fishy, so those of us who do not eat fish could still enjoy the noodles. That is something I would order every time. Funny, I did not realize both of their children were on Food Network, but I did watch those shows at the time. I hear the noodles were in honor of the daughter's show, so thanks for allowing us to taste your amazing looking dish. On the other hand, the service was really only fair. I read other reviews and while the servers were good, they did not really seem to want to engage with us verbally or talk to us. They were very lukewarm at best, even though the rest of their service was great. They were attentive, but not friendly. I do want to come back and order it all over again and then some, so I hope to return soon. This was a really fun place.

First, my overall impression of Godaiko is it seems like a nice place. The decor is pretty and the vibe seemed to be very chill. I am curious about how good the regular fare is. The sushi pushpops are only available to-go, and can only be ordered at a kiosk that is set up just inside the door - you almost walk into it. Thankfully my husband and I arrived a bit early, because a line quickly formed behind us that went out the door. The price is decent, considering you are getting a full sushi roll that is very filling. The flavor options are limited to five (5), and only one does not have egg product: three have mayo and Caesar Salad has egg in the dressing. For people who are allergic to eggs - like me - this is really not cool. My husband ordered the Spicy Tuna and the Fire Shrimp (the one I originally wanted). To my despair, my only option was the Philly Philly roll, which I hate. But because we drove 45 minutes to try the sushi pushpops, no way was I not going to get one! I have to admit that the seasoning on the rice gave a good flavor to the Philly Philly roll, so it wasn't complete torture... My husband enjoyed his rolls very much. The soy sauce comes in a narrow tube that doubles as the stick used to push up the sushi. It clips to the side of the carton. One has to be careful when pulling this out of the clip, because for some reason the tube opens at both ends and if you are a little heavy-handed you can end up with sauce on your pants! The Good: Innovative product that sets it apart from its competitors. Taste is good, and the packaging makes this easy to eat on the go. What Needs Improvement: 1). Put an allergy notification/warning about the egg; especially since it is not listed in the ingredients. Thankfully, my intuition told me to ask before I ordered.... 2). Add more flavors; especially egg-free options! A nice shrimp tempura or unagi roll would be good.... Or .. give the option to custom-make the roll so that the mayo can be omitted, giving those who are allergic to egg a chance to enjoy. . Perhaps allow the custom order to be made at the bar so as not to tie up the kiosk. 3). Maybe move the kiosk away from the door so that you're not walking right into it. On a busy day/night, I can see that line being a big annoyance for the customers coming to dine in. 4). Seal one end of the sauce tube. Not sure why both ends need to be opened. 5). Offer more sauce options (we were only given Soy).... 6). Label the tubes! Since the rolls are premade, and not labeled, the risk is high of mixing up the flavors - especially when it's busy. A discreet little label on the bottom of the tube would be fine. All-in-all, getting the sushi pushpops was a fun and novel experience. However, because of the limited flavor options that are heavily mayo'ed, I am rating this experience 3 stars.
