Let me start by saying that our first visit, unfortunately, coincided with the U of M graduation crowd. Had we realized this, I'm sure we would have chosen another night, but as we were there and able to snag a table - we stayed. I'm sure the busyness was responsible for the less than stellar service. We waited a long time for some items, never got others and had to flag down employees multiple times for things like plates and water. That being said, the people we dined with were regulars and said this was atypical. The one thing that I couldn't get past was the level of cleanliness. From where I sat, I could see the entrance into the kitchen which was very untidy. Perhaps this too was not the norm, but I have to review based on my experience and this was a big part of my discomfort. The food itself was fresh and good and the decor was nice. I think we will probably give this place another shot, as it is a favorite of our dining companions. My four star rating is rounded up from a 3.5, and I will amend it if our next visit is better.

The servers were friendly and they have nice decor but man it's pricey here and it doesn't taste that great :0p This plaza is kind of hidden but has some other Asian cuisines like Kimchi Box and Mochinut. It's interesting they don't disclose that you get charged for the sauce bar (it's like $1.50/per a person). Good thing I got lots of sauces and they did have fresh sliced oranges! The shao lum bao (soup dumplings) had thick skin and flavor was ok so it didn't taste authentic to me and I was disappointed. The soup bases were ok tasting and got oily after cooking meat (we tried the creamy chicken soup base, the pumpkin soup base, and the spicy mild soup base). You order the soup bases and then select each of the items that are charged separately (like meat, vegetables, and dumplings or noodles). That is why it gets to be pricey! Overall, everything tasted ok. Even the sauces were not as tasty (but prob my fault for not mixing them well). It was good to try once but would not return. Unless their prices dropped hahaha

I had not had hot pot in decades. My husband never had. Our hosts like this place and easy to park and lots of seating. It was pretty early for dinner but we had a hungry kid with us and our hosts said it can get very busy and slow. Everything is self ordered by tablet. The old traditional place I had been decades ago had a convenient round table in an older subtle decor. This place is modern bright in white and orange theme. Very "fast casual" which I had not expected. The meats and veggies were good. We let our hosts pick the broths as they knew the menu well. One of our hosts had eaten not long ago in Beijing and prefers just hot water instead if flavored broth as water is standard in Beijing. I enjoyed having broth , especially for the veggies. We had beef and lamb, abalone, lotus root, bok choy, cabbage and 2 kinds of noodles. I did not make a good dipping sauce though since I did not know how some of the ingredients would blend or not. Mine turned out too thick and sweet. But with practice and better advice, I would have had what I wanted. A large family and friends came in and seemed better organized than we were and and seemed to know the staff so I'm sure this is a good Ponce for families with kids to eat early dinner. The place was spotless and the staff efficient and friendly and the food came out quickly. The portions were generous. It is very near the campus so I suspect it is quite busy at other times of day. Ute residential development with retail and dining on the ground floor and parking mixed. My city is trying this and have not been success filling such spaces but probably because ours don't offer parking.

Extremely authentic hot pot in ann arbor. Broth flavors reminded me of hot pot back in China. Ordering is self serve from the tablets, first time could be a bit confusing without anyone explaining the process. Sauce bar is also self serve. I would recommend 2-3 meats and a couple vegetable dishes for 2 people. Broth can get pretty spicy so be careful!

My friend wanted to checkout this place since she heard a lot of good things about them. Overall I'd say the food was good. They had a large variety pf meats and animal parts that most Americans I don't think would be interested in trying. So it seemed quite authentic for a more international audience. They had a decent variety of soup dumplings to try! We had the truffle pork dumplings which were pretty good and had a lot of soup inside. But the dough wrapping was a little thick. One thing that wasn't disclosed was the dipping sauce cost. They didn't mention it to us or even show it on the menu. Which it cost $6 to make a sauce from the sauce bar! I did see a review on Google I think that had said the sauce cost about $3, which seems more reasonable than $6. The service was okay, but not very friendly in explaining how things worked there or that we had to pay up front or not. The menu is also not very descriptive about what's in the soup bases. The place is very spacious though and not too loud of an environment. Over all food wise, it's a 4.5, but for cost and service it's a 3 for me. We spent about as much as it would cost to go to Kpot. The only better advantage this place has is more for the international pallet like I mentioned before.

Wonderful experience at Palace Tang! For a hot pot restaurant to be good, it has to have (1) delicious broths, (2) fresh, high-quality ingredients, (3) and fun sauce options. Otherwise, might as well just do hot pot at home (if you're like me and have an at-home hot pot). Palace Tang delivers on all the above! I love that there are so many options for broth, and whether you want to stick with one flavor or try multiple, it's all the same base price. We tried 3 broths. I especially loved the Chongqing Spicy (and whew, it was spicy!!) and the Mushroom. They imparted so much flavor on the meat and veggies and definitely were better than whatever I put into my hot pot broths at home! All the meat, veg, and carbs we tried were delicious! No misses. Tried some beef, lamb, fish balls (that were stuffed with something). Presentation of the lamb rolls were really nice. All tasty. Then also got cabbage, green veg, enoki mushroom, tofu skin. Once again, everything delicious! ALSO got rice cakes, which were so perfectly chewy, and an order of noodles which were clearly house made - fresh with the perfect texture. Everything is ordered a la carte on an iPad, with pictures and option to look through in English or Chinese. Also the option to call over wait staff if you need help! Portions were bigger than expected - making prices really reasonable for each item! We also got the Truffle Pork soup dumplings and these were so tasty too! Served hot and very soupy, with tender, flavorful pork filling. After ordering everything, we went over to the sauce station to mix ourselves some sauces. Tons of options, and all my favorite things were there! I made 2 - one more soy/black vinegar/chasha based, and one more sesame peanut based. Lots of cilantro and green onion in both! Everything was brought out pretty quickly after ordering and pretty close together. Made for a beautiful table presentation! When we were all done, we turned the table heat off to let the broth cool and then my mom actually asked for to go containers and took some of the leftover broths home which she'll use for more cooking! Otherwise, we figured it would just be tossed. Our server told us that people do this all the time, not just us lol. Overall great experience and we all left stuffed!

The reviews of this place are spot on. Nice decor everything is ordered using a tablet also you will pay on the tablet after the meal. You choose your hot pot base we went with three, the medium spiced schezuan, the mushroom broth, and the golden broth. You can order up to 4 and whether you order 1 or 4, $14.99. For a $1.99 you get access to unlimited sauces and spices that you walk up and get. Definitely must get access to the sauces when having the hot pot we had the chili oil crunch, the black vinegar, peanut, and sesame sauce. They have a lot of other options but that was fine for us. The beef and lamb took a couple of minutes to cook from the time it takes for the waiter to start the pot to boiling is like 5 minutes. The vegetables and mushrooms were very fresh. The reviews are correct very easy to leave here with a big bill so tread lightly when ordering. Can always order more as you are eating. Two everything is great but unless you are ready to part with some cash you will probably not be completely full when you leave. Definitely recommend getting at least an order of noodles per person so everyone has a solid base of food. All n all a great place to bring a group of friends or to bring a date.

Palace Tang is a Chinese hot pot restaurant that has opened in a ground level suite of a mixed commercial/residential building across from the North Campus of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The signage to indicate the presence of this new eatery wasn't prominent nor very visible. It actually occupied the largest footprint of all the businesses in the complex where Panera used to be located. Ample parking was available in the private lot behind the structure. The dining area contained numerous well-spaced out tables with a burner in the middle to heat up the soup bases. A childhood friend and I decided to try this place recently for dinner. The menu was a la carte ordering via a tablet and not all-you-can-eat like some similar places in my current hometown. That's okay because the variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables was still impressive. The first step was to choose the number of pots for the burner... one, two, three, or four. This was the first time I have seen so many configurations as it's usually just one or two (yin yang) chambers and occasionally four. At least five different flavors were available in addition to a plain seaweed based broth. We picked four styles for our quadrant setup... Medium Spicy, Tomato, Mushroom, and Spicy & Sour. The spiciness of the first one didn't have an immediate kick, but the heat built up over time as you kept consuming more of it. I liked the mildness of the mushroom variety which was made up of a special sauce with the addition of enoki and shiitake mushrooms. An order of the Handmade Crab & Pork Steamed Soup Dumplings (xiao long baos) started our meal. Six pieces were served inside a bamboo steamer. The quality of these XLBs were pretty good as the contents inside the dough wrapping were piping hot. For the raw items, our selections were the following... * One Meter Fat Cow * Lamb * Fish Tofu * Bean Curd Rolls * Enoki Mushrooms The Fat Cow was a row of thinly sliced fatty beef spread across a board that was at least one meter long. It looked photogenic and was the most popular choice at nearly every table. We probably should have picked some green vegetables to balance out the proteins, but we wanted to save room for noodles at the end of the meal. Both fresh thin noodles and udon noodles were ordered to soak up the flavors of the well-simmered broths. While waiting for the broths to heat up and the items to be brought to our table, we checked out the condiments bar along one side of the dining area. Unlimited access to salts, spices, sauces, oils, and other toppings (e.g. chili peppers, garlic, ginger, green onions) was available for $3.99 per person. I felt this area was the weakest aspect of the dining experience. In my other experiences with Chongqing hot pot, this station would also have fresh fruits, dessert soups, and ice cream as part of the surcharge. None of those components were offered here. If you're not careful, the cost can add up quickly, especially for a larger party. That being said, I felt the quality and price of the offerings were reasonable. Besides the self-service bar, I didn't have any other negatives from our dinner at Palace Tang which I gave a 4.5 star rating.

Pretty solid of a hot pot place that is still in its soft opening stages! I visited this past weekend and multiple people recommended me to check out Palace Tang. For a fairly good price, the four of us paid around $35 after tax and tip, and we were all very full. The variety of meats here is impressive and it's not too expensive. I'll highlight some of my favorite broths/toppings! For broths you can choose up to four broths for 14.95 per table (if you choose a single broth, it will fill up the whole pot but if you choose four broths, each will take up a quarter of the pot). We chose four different broths: Chongqing Spice Broth (Mild, and that was already so spicy), Tomato Broth, Mushroom Broth, and Three Delicacies Broth (I think this was the name). My favorites were the mushroom and three delicacies broths! The mushroom one had a strong and earthy flavor that I liked and the three delicacies was your typical bone broth with some scallions and Chinese herbs. A lot of good meat options here. We got the one meter fatty beef (a lot of meat for a cheap price, but it's really fatty), standard beef option (forgot what it was called, but this was good), wagyu beef (good to try for fun and very delicate, but not one I'd get again). We also got some fish tofu which were great. Overall, solid options! For non-meat options, we got napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms, quail eggs, bean curd, bok choy, lotus root and crown daisy. All were fresh and good! They also have a complementary sauce bar, so help yourself. When we went, they also have oranges that were sliced and prepared to eat off the skin. I definitely ate at least two whole oranges. Palace Tang is a solid option in the area if you're craving hot pot. I like that there's a variety of pricing for meat so definitely more affordable options if you don't want to splurge too much. I was happy and full this past Sunday afternoon!

We were a group of three and tried 4 different broths. They were all very flavorful and the choice of things to cook in the broths were very good. They also had a bar where you could get various sauces and utensils.
