The Galbitang was disappointing (the radish was undercooked and barely any meat) but my husband thinks it matches the price at $16 when it's normally $20+. We also liked that they had purple rice! I've come here a few times and though I've enjoyed it, it has its pros and cons. The food is always pretty decent but severely overpriced. I shouldn't have to pay $13 for a simple Gimbap. As far as service, I have never really had a problem with that, everyone is generally very kind. The ambiance is great and I really enjoy the casual vibe of the restaurant. Overall, if the food wasn't so expensive, I would definitely come more often but I just can't afford it, hence why I make a lot of my Korean food at home. read more

Decided to try this restaurant while in the area. Sat at a grill table so we could have freshly grilled Kalbi and Pork Belly. Portions were very small for the prices charged and it was expensive. Kalbi marination was barely detectable. Pork belly was good, but only with the sesame/salt dipping sauce, otherwise if you eat it by itself it's just unseasoned pork. I liked that they have a self-serve condiment bar (aka K-Garden) where you can grab your own fresh lettuce, garlic, jalapeños, other vegetables and seasoned daikon radish slices to accompany your grilled meats. Service was spotty. The two ladies running around trying to service every table was clearly too much for them. They only came to our table to light up the grill, and deliver the banchan and meat. They didn't check on the grill (which was out of gas) or assist with the grilling. Also it would have been nice if they let us know about and gave instructions on their K-Garden. This is a terrific Korean restaurant in Ypsilanti. We stumbled upon it in a Yelp search when we were shopping in the area. It is situated in a strip plaza with several other interesting restaurants. We were seated right away when we walked in. We were given the choice between sitting on the BBQ side or on the standard restaurant side. We chose the BBQ side and were glad of it. Our server waited on us quickly and did a great job during our entire visit. The ambiance was quite pleasant and made for a relaxing meal. We were served the typical Korean starters including salads, noodles, Kimchi, etc. They were very good openers and accompaniments for the main meal. There were several good BBQ combos from which to select for dinner. We chose the Grill for 2 (Bulgogi, Galbi, Spicy BBQ Chicken and Spicy BBQ Pork). We cooked it ourselves as is the customary procedure at such places. All of the meats were wonderfully delicious. And we had enough to bring home for another small meal. The cost for all of this was reasonable and we were quite happy with the value. This was one of the better dining experiences we've had in Ypsilanti. We look forward to our next visit. read more

It has been way too long since my last visit. Outstanding banchan (fish cake, broccoli, kimchi, and mashed potatoes), takoyaki (fried battered balls of diced octopus), and my favorite Korean soup - Gamjatang (pork spine/neck bone with napa cabbage and potato in a spicy broth). Everything was outstanding and reasonably priced. Many Korean families enjoying lunch with K-Pop videos playing.. Great service and clean too. This is our go-to for Korean food, hands-down, whether it's takeout or dining in. We love it. I love the lunch special with naengmyeon and pork kalbi (that I've tried to reverse engineer to no avail). Came here on a random Monday and enjoyed the food. They provide so many sides and were all really yummy. We ordered the bulgogi cheese gimbap and honestly, it was a bit underwhelming. I was hoping that the cheese would be more melty/cheesier but I could barely taste it. I might try their tuna salad gimbap next time. Tried their military soup and do ga ni tang. The military soup was hearty and as expected. The Do Ga Ni Tang was very gamy which was unexpected. It was also quite bland but they did provide garlic, radish, and salt which I think is used to reduce the gamy taste and give the soup more flavor. I was craving for some Gimbap and found this place online. My boyfriend and I decided to grab lunch here and also shared the Bulgolgi dish. Service was great! Pretty good variety of Korean food, definitely tastes like home and the servers are very fast and kind - got the galbi, soondubu, jjambbong, and black bean noodles - the galbi is really juicy when they grill it for you in the kitchen with onions and veggies on the side. The soondubu has a ton of seafood too, super filling and spicy. The black bean noodles aren't the best I've ever tasted but still one of the most accessible ones in the vicinity of Ann Arbor. I'm gonna come right out and say that MG is pretty much the *ONLY* Korean option I have within 60 mile radius from me. So they definitely take points (or in Yelp's case, half-to-a-full star) from this fact. Actually, this is a lie. There is one other place in-town that my family used to go to when we first moved here, but that was until we started to venture out towards Michigan and discovering many more places that served better food; MG being one of them. Having spent a long time in L.A., where you generally pick a place that specializes in a few core items, it was initially very hard to trust a place that had easily 60+ items on their menu. But lack of availability altogether made us want to try, then being pleasantly surprised by more than a few items on their list made me want to come back more times. I was also reminded of my youth days and how restaurants in Indiana 20 years ago was pretty much the same way. When you don't have enough demands for such food, there won't be enough new restaurants to fulfill our individual cravings. Instead, existing restaurant owners/chefs with decent cooking skills will expand their current menu to offer more varieties. I'm just happy MG is able to quench my entry-level K-food thirst. I have a long way to go before I can claim I've tried most of their offerings, but at least they have the basics like KBBQ, sullungtang and Korean fried chicken. So far I've been happy with most everything I've ordered, and I'm okay with that. read more

We were really excited to hear about a Korean restaurant in Ypsilanti. Usually we get our bibimbap from Bell's Diner in Ann Arbor and haven't found a place in Ypsilanti to match it. Ordered the veggie bibimbap as take-out, got it home and what a disappointment. This comes with tofu and there were about 8 little cubes of fried, dried up, tasteless tofu. The wasn't much rice or spinach. OK, the carrots, cucumbers and other vegetables were fine but this was a poor version of bibimbap. Not much food and since tofu is the main protein you would think it would be plentiful and tasty. The restaurant looks great, with a grill at each table. But hard to justify blowing more money at a place that was so disappointing. read more

Came here for BBQ and some kimbap. They sadly informed us that they don't serve kimbap on the weekend, only during the week. There's a huge colander filled with red leaf lettuce at the next table. All bbq is nicely wrapped and dressed with the red leaf lettuce. We ordered 2 spicy chicken BBQ. My husband said it's toasty inside, the air is on, maybe low, but there's a lot of heat from the grills no doubt. The spicy chicken meat is yummy and has a nice kick to it. The chicken meat came with asparagus, mushrooms, enoki mushrooms and onions. We asked for some garlic to add to the grill. Their kimchi banchan is not bad, they provided potato salad, fish cake, broccoli, green onion salad. They have the purple rice here. The bbq food was good and the service was great. All staff help each other out and you can ask anyone for anything and they will gladly bring it to you or address your concerns. Great service. I see why it's so popular and often busy here. I tried coming here today but apparently you need reservations? I haven't come here for awhile, so I was unfamiliar with how it worked. Oh well, just a heads up to people reading this review around the same time frame I wrote it. I've been coming here for several years and have tried lots of dishes here. I love their banchan here, and even though it's been awhile, I still remember the potato salad and how it tastes. Everything else I've had is good, too! For entrees, I'd recommend the following: * Dogani Tang - if you like cartilage and ox knees and whatnot, this is the soup for you. It's light, yet creamy at the same time. They are generous with the amount of cartilage and ox knees they give you (a bit too much for me, imo). There's also dry beef brisket slices in the soup and some noodles. Solid choice for a rainy day, if you're feeling under the weather, or simply if you want something comforting. * Tripe Soondubu - probably my favorite soondubu in the area. Pretty flavorful soup overall, can't go wrong. * Gimbap - I think it's just beef gimbap here, but I love that they use purple rice here since it adds more color. I also like that they add a bit of cheese which gives it a more savory flavor. Solid choice and would recommend as an appetizer or a lighter meal. * Mul naengmyeon - Love the noodles they use here. Great chilly meal for hot weather days or whenever you're craving it. Broth is pretty flavorful. Get some KBBQ and you will get an explosion of flavors - sweet, tangy, savory, etc. The KBBQ is probably the best in the area, but overall, still really pricy for OK quality meat. Portions aren't very large either. Would not recommend the combinations here. It's expensive and doesn't come with a lot of food. You're better off getting a la carte (at least you'll be able to choose your own meat). I don't think the seafood we got from the combo (I think it was the $99 one if prices are still the same from this summer) was all that fresh either. Overall, probably my go-to Korean restaurant here. There are some cons, but a solid choice in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. read more

Dare I say this is the best Korean meal I have had? I adore Korean food and relished it in SOCAL. This was the closest experience I have had in Michigan. Their COVID precautions were second to none. Reservations are required on weekends and your temp is checked at the entry point. Upon passing, hand sanitizer is administered before you enter the dining room, which has limited seating now. The options that we chose were amazing: shrimp shumai, pork Mandu and soon du bu- jjigae. They were all perfect, and the seafood pot was brimming with tofu, egg, veg, clams, mussels, shrimp and calamari. The banchan was the best that I have ever had. It was potato salad, fish cake, broccoli, kimchi cabbage and cucumber, green onion salad. The purple rice was the icing on the proverbial cake. Don't let the strip mall location deter you, foodies. The service was good, the waiter was very attentive.We tried the fried chicken, I liked the blazing sauce better than the plain one. Jap chae was flavorful, but I don't think I will order the seafood next time, too many shells, The Gop Chang Soon Du Bu soup was ok, not my favorite. As mostly a vegetarian, my options were pretty limited. But their veggie bimbimbap was the most delicious I've had. I loved the flavors. Spend the extra dollar and get it in their stone bowl which makes the bottom rice nice and crunchy. Ask for the hot sauce which is gochujang and add it to your dish - turns out extra yummy. You see a lot of Koreans at the restaurant, so it's probably as authentic as it gets. Knocked off a star because they can get super busy and we ended up walking out once because we didn't get our wait staff even after 15 minutes of being seated. It shows that they're a great restaurant but they do need to add more staff on a busy night. Suggestion is to go on a weekday and early - you'll get all the attention and great food too! read more

This is the second time that I have gone to this place and right off the bat, I recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is a combination of casual/cozy. The volume in the restaurant can get a little loud but not obnoxious. The waitstaff were friendly, efficient, patient and attentive. My daughter has low blood sugar and if she doesn't eat regularly, she feels very shaky with an upset stomach. I went up to our waitress and told her what was happening. She dashed into the kitchen and returned with a bowl of rice. My daughter ate the rice and felt better right away. Kudos to our waitress for caring and having urgency in helping my daughter. For dinner - We ordered : - "Pork party" for 2. Marinated pork steak, Belly and sliced pork loin. You take the pork and grill it at your table. The pork was very tender and tasty. Later during dining we ordered a half serving of pork. There were 6 of us with 2 ravenous teenagers. - Miso soup. It was only $ 1 a bowl. - Jap Chae A glass noodle dish stir fried with beef and a dash of toasted sesame seed oil. This was very good dish and one of my all time favorites. If you don't know what to select this is a recipe anyone would like. - Samson Champon This us made with a base of gochujang ( a red chili paste). If you are familiar with Soon du boo, you will understand this soup. Instead of tofu, its made with noodles. I enjoy Soon du boo although to much tofu for me. This version of the soup with noodles is spot on for me. - Jjagang Myeon This is a noodle dish with black bean paste. The taste for me was Chef Boyardee's spaghetti in a black pasta sauce. My daughter really liked this dish. I believe this dish does not fit an American's palate. Their menu offers many more offerings. Such as beef Korean BBQ and varouos Hot Pot offerings. Additionaly there are many other single dishes to order off the menu. Do I have any critiques about this restaurant ? Nothing worth mentioning. This place is not cheap but you will feel value for the money spent, the incredible food that you had, the excellent service and the great experience.
