I have been going to this restaurant for a number of years now. I have never been disappointed with the food. The service is very good. One of the owners/servers has a very dry sense of humor, and if you don't understand this, you might think he's being rude. I'm trying to learn a little Korean. The owner spent a little time with me helping me pronounce some of the Korean words on the menu. I appreciate this. This is an authentic Korean found in a strip mall in the Canton area. The staff must had a bad day because they seemed not too thrilled to be there. I had the Jokbal and Sundae and the jokbal was dry and sundae was mealy. The breading on the tangsuyuk was heavy but had decent chunks of meat. Fried rice was decent and my kids seemed to like it. They did also give them banana milk at the end which was a nice touch. Perhaps we hit them on a bad day but I feel like there are better options for Korean food if you are willing to drive. read more

Korean food is amazing. With that being said, Korean food at a restaurant is usually a tough thing to have and taste authentic, sometimes. This place, serves the most amazing Korean dishes that leave me wanting MORE! Their Korean fried chicken is the stuff that dreams are made of. Just enough spiciness, sweetness and tanginess to have you weak in the knees. Their bulgogi is delicious and seasoned just right. The bimbimbap in a stone bowl comes out piping hot and creates the crunchy crust of rice at the bottom. The restaurant itself is in a modest strip mall close to IKEA. Not fancy but WOW the food! Our server has seen us twice already and both times greeted us like we were some friends of his visiting from college. Very familiar and comfortable. Great service, funny and friendly. So many menu choices it was difficult where to start because it all sounds good. It was our first visit to this restaurant and again, another discovery in our own backyard. So glad we came here! We shared the Kimchi pancake- YUM! I had the Bibimbap on the stone bowl and then my friends had the bulgobi bbq and short rib bbq. The restaurant isn't set up to do your own bbq at the table but it was still DELICIOUS! Kimmari - little fried glass noodles with a sweet and sour sauce. They were fine. Nothing wrong with them. Maybe just not my jam. Doek bokki - gochujang forward, with rice dumplings and glass noodles , very interesting, there were also triangles of fish cakes of some sort. Once you've eaten several spoonfuls, it can become quote spicy. The rice dumplings had a chewiness to them. I wish there were some crunchy textures to it as well. Korean fried chicken - nice breading, which would have been crispy and better if we ate at the restaurant. The peanuts added nice nuttiness. Requested the hot sauce instead of the sweet sauce, but it was still quite sweet. Bulgogi soup- the vegetables in this dish were onions and spring onions, the bulgogi was exactly what you would think of when you think of bulgogi. The beef is a fatty meat, and I thought the broth ate a bit greasy. It reminded me of French onion soup. When eaten with the kimchi and pickled vegetables, it really helped balance it out. "Imagine me and you, I do. I think about you day and night. It's only right to think about the [food] you love." There were a lot of things to look at on the menu, but I was hungry. I wanted to read, but I wanted to eat. I wanted to be adventurous, but I wanted food now. So feeling like a basic bench, I ordered the chicken katsu because it was something I knew and usually enjoyed while my +1 ordered the bulgogi. I was a little disappointed in myself for not ordering something more specifically Korean, but whatever. I was ready to eat. After my first bite into the chicken katsu, The Turtle's "So Happy Together" was playing on repeat in my head. (I might also be listening to it on repeat as I write this review.) It might have been the best chicken katsu I'd ever had in my life. The chicken was perfectly moist. The breading wasn't heavy; it just added that perfect crunch. The kimchi pancake? Not too spicy but lots of flavor. The bulgogi? Knocked it out of the park. Honestly, I'm so angry at myself for never having gone to this place sooner. The food was delicious! I had Beef Bulgogi and my husband had Bulgogi soup. Both had very good flavor. I do wish my beef bulgogi came with carrots and broccoli. If I could give zero stars, I would. My friends and I came here on a Friday night and we were met with THE WORST service we've ever experienced. When we politely asked if we could move the empty and unlit hot pot tray from the shorter side of the table to the longer side, we were told it wasn't allowed due to a "fire department requirement." Confused but calm, we simply asked for clarification. That's when the staff escalated things unnecessarily, accusing us of "making a fuss" and even calling us trespassers. Then, to our shock, they actually called the cops. Yes, you read that right--911 was called, and five starving students were treated like criminals, all for asking a simple question. The police arrived, equally confused as us, and we were left humiliated and stunned by how absurdly this situation spiraled. If this is how they treat their customers, I'd suggest staying far, far away. No meal is worth this level of disrespect, hostility, and utter lack of professionalism. p.s. we never even got to try the food, so we can't tell you if it was worth the drama. Located in a small strip mall that was once a Thai restaurant on busy M-153 (Ford Road) in Canton, Kimchi offers a full menu selection of outstanding Korean cuisine to choose from. If you like variety, this place has it. Likewise, they do have a small selection of Japanese dishes you can also enjoy. Kimchi, is a family owned restaurant that really cares about it's customers. They will prepare any entrée on their menu just the way you like it. If you prefer your food more mild or even spicy, they will create it that way. One thing that is different here at this restaurant, is they prefer to use Jasmine rice, rather than the traditional sticky, and sweet Korean short-grain variety found in most other restaurants. However, this is not a problem for me, as I like all kinds of rice. I have tried their Chicken Yakisoba, which is outstanding, as it's loaded with flavor. Likewise, their Beef Bibimbap, Bulgogi, and BBQ Chicken are all first-rate. I really want to try some of their other seafood entrées in the future. They have a lot of different dishes you might not find at other restaurants and the prices are about the same (if not a little less) than similar restaurants and the flavor is definitely there. Yum! I came here on a Saturday night around 8 p.m. or so. It wasn't packed but there were a good amount of people in the restaurant. My eating companion and I opted for the Korean BBQ: bulgogi and galbi. We also had ban chan to accompany our entrees. It also came with steamed rice. My favorite thing by far was the bulgogi. That was definitely the stand out dish of the night. I actually didn't care too much for the galbi but my eating companion liked it. The service was good. Our waiter was attentive and made good suggestions. It has a diner-type feel. My mom and I have been thinking about trying this place for a while. Loved the vibe and the wall art when we walked in, reminded me very much of being in Korea. All the food tasted fresh including the banchan. Our favorite was the dumpling soup. We would come back just for that! They have a solid bibimbap (chicken was much more tender than it looked). The kimchi pancake didn't taste like it had much kimchi in it, more like a green onion pancake but it came with a great sauce. All the dishes were tasty overall so we would visit again! Let me start by saying the food was delicious as usual. But every time we go we have this butthole of a waiter that has smart remarks and for some reason anything you ask him for he cannot do it for you. If you ask him can you have a dish made spicy, he says no you can't but the dishes are made to order. He even went so far as to tell us that this is not a Thai restaurant. He said they did not even have crushed red pepper flakes to give us from the back because they went bad in the storm when they didn't have power. That is the stupidest thing I ever heard. Then when my daughter says she likes her food spicy he kept making Off the Wall comments that she can't handle it spicy and that the hot sauce they do havr is too hot for her and he couldn't accommodate us. This is the third time we've had the same waiter who has this a****** Behavior as if you don't know what you're talking about or you don't know what you want. Everything we ask him he says no we can't, no we don't do that. Last time my granddaughter asked him about sushi he said this is not a Japanese restaurant this is a Korean restaurant. This is the last time I will patronize this restaurant. What about the customer is always right and making them happy. There's no reason why you cannot make someone's food spicy when you sell spicy dishes. I asked if u can get a half order of the Korean fried chicken appetizer. He stated that they are PKG in groups of 8, what would they do with the other 4 from the PKG? Huh? I will not spend my money in an establishment where we have a wise cracker or someone is condescending as him that waits on tables. He should not be allowed to work with the public at all. WOOO. I will definitely be coming back here again soon. Came with my boyfriend and we ordered a Kimchi pancake as an appetizer, and a seafood hotpot for main meal to share. It was soo much food. I don't think we were prepared for that amount of food. The Kimchi pancake was delicious. Soft. Chewy texture. Absolutely delicious. All the flavors were spectacular, I was very happy. The seafood hotpot did not disappoint. There was a large variety of seafood in it, and the soup had a great flavor. They bring out a small grill like stove top to keep your soup nice and warm! Kimchi - Kimchi Pancake and sides! - Korean Near Me - Canton, Michigan

One day while going through Yelp, I noticed Kimchi in Canton. Looks like they took over Thai Bistro and from what I have heard, the chef that works at Kimchi used to work in Macheko Grill in Ypsilanti. The menu layout at Kimchi and Macheko Grill is the same, the only exception - Macheko Grill has table top grills, Kimchi does not, so all the BBQ is done in the back for you and brought to your table. So I had an opportunity to stop by for lunch with a friend. We walked in and got seated, got our menu and the lady brought us hot teas. We reviewed the menu and ordered the following: - Spicy Rice Cake - Jjajangmyun - Chompong with extra seafood - LA Kalbi with soontofu combo So here we go. Banchans - they serve banchans in small dishes and looks like it's rotated often, on our visit, we got Napa Kimchi, Radish Kimchi (Sliced), Zucchini, broccoli, blank beans and yellow radish seasoned in chili. The banchans were ok, standard Midwest (Michigan) banchans, nothing special. The only refill we asked was for more Kimchi. Spicy Rice Cake - it tasted the same as what Macheko Grill offered, but looks like they added the glass noodles. Jjajangmyun - it tasted different here then back at Macheko Grill, not something that I would order again. In addition, the noodle was very chewy, as it was under cooked. If you like Jjajangmyun - go to Panda in Ann Arbor, on Packard Road - they have the best jjajangmyun in A2 area. Chompong - I couldn't tell if they added additional seafood (since they charge extra) or not, but I have to say, this was the best food we had during our late lunch. The broth was excellent, the noodle was cooked very well. I ended up adding more rice to the soup so I could finish the entire bowl. LA Kalbi with Soontofu combo - The meat was bit on the tough side, had lot of fat on the meats - especially those on the end. They needed to marinate the meat bit longer. Overall, I'm glad there is a Korean restaurant in Canton. You'll have to go and try it for yourself and be the judge of their offering and the taste, but as a Korean, it's decent, on par with what many Korean restaurants offer in Michigan. As for service, I agree with others, it has to be improved! They only had two servers, the lady while there, was sitting by the table near the kitchen with arms crossed - you can definitely tell she was in charge. I got her attention to ask for water and she looked bit upset that I bothered her. It's a bit out of my way to go often since I live on the west side of Ann Arbor and I can get most of their offering in Ann Arbor or make it at home. My first time here and I enjoyed my meal. I asked my server for help in understanding a few things, as did four people at a nearby table. Don't let your lack of Korean food stop you from enjoying a meal here. And DO ask for non-spicy options. Where to start? AMBIENCE Nothing fancy but nice and clean. You'll notice screens covering the front windows and door. This is because Korean dining/eating is seen as a private matter, so they have screens to keep the outsiders from looking in MENU Check out their facebook page for the actual menu. They've posted the entire menu there. You have tons of options with captions describing what each dish is, including many photos. Appetizers. Noodles. Korean soups. Bibimba & Katsu. Hot Pots. Korean BBQ. Stir fry. I want to go back and sample more options! I had the shredded beef cooked with vegetables in broth. Tasty! Note #1. I ordered the edamame and when the server brought it to the table he also brought six little dishes of accompaniments. (See my photos). He explained they are enjoyed with the main meal and can be eaten any way you like. A bite here, a bite there, a bite with rice, a bite with your main dish, etc. Some are spicy, like the actual kimchi. It's really tasty, not to mention good for you with all that natural fermentation going on. The six little dishes are collectively called "banchan." Note #2: There was a table of 4 near me and they asked a lot of questions about the menu and the spiciness. Lots of things are spicy but it you ask your server about less spicy options s/he will help you find something that's a better fit. Note #3: One of the ladies at the table near me was a vegetarian and the server said they would figure something out for her, and they did, but that their menu isn't necessarily vegetarian because of ingredients used in many dishes. But good for them they helped her find a nice option. Not sure what it was because as I passed the table on the way out it was almost all gone! SERVICE No issues. My server explained several things to me and came back quickly to check if everything was ok. Nom nom nom. :) I walked in right in the middle of dinner time and the place was packed. I scanned the tables on the way to being seated and wished I could have sampled all of the dishes. Guess I'll have to go back for more! Give it a try. AND REMEMBER!! Tell your server if you don't want spicy food and they'll work with you as they did the table next to me. terrible TERRIBLE service. walked in not even 15 minutes ago, without a reservation because it was our first time checking the place out. the waiter asks us if we have a reservation, we say no, and he scoffs at us telling us a reservation is always required. we apologized. he walked us to a table anyways. we had some questions about the alcohol on the menu. as my mother is asking about the plum wine, he immediately mentions it out of stock. i ask about the soju and he told us "i am not serving you any alcohol because you came here without a reservation". my family and i try to laugh it off, but he was dead serious. we ask him if he's serious and he just nods. asks us if we need a few more minutes with the menu. we were shocked, so we said yes. i convinced my parents and brother to walk out of the restaurant. if the staff doesn't care about hospitality, they can figure it out themselves that we left. it would be one thing if he just turned us away from the restaurant for not having a reservation. we were prepared to leave! but being rude to us and still offering us mediocre service is a bit ridiculous. won't be giving this business any money now or in the future. read more

Their service attitude makes the whole thing very uncomfortable from ordering to checkout. The child dropped the chopsticks he was using to eat on the floor. We asked him to get a new one several times but he never gave it to us. After waiting for a long time, the chopsticks were given to us and they were charged $1. This is the first time I have encountered a restaurant in the United States that charges a fee if a customer drops the tableware on the floor and asks the waiter to get a clean tableware. Its sad to see the reviews on here and he acts this way. Just asking about the menu he will give petty remarks to you like you are stupid. Since my mother passed I've been looking for home style Korean food like hers. This is the closest to moms I can get near me. I order the Kimchi soup and Yukaejang soup. To my delight very flavorful and hot and hot the spicy notes just right. You know it is good when your nose starts running from the hot soups. I also like the side dishes that came along with it. The kimchi was so tasty. I also ordered the steamed egg, kimchi pancakes and tteokbokki. I loved the kimchi pancakes but did not care for the tteokbokki. Not everyone's tteokbukki is the same.
