I had been visiting Matsu-Chan a few times a year since 2009 when I was a university student in the Japanese [language] minor program and a lot of my classmates would also frequent. After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive. read more

My friend arrived first and grabbed the last available table during a busy lunch rush. I am grateful I did not have to wait since I tend to get hangry. Others following us added their names to the waitlist. The restaurant is small with just a handful of tables. One chef, it appears, prepared all the meals. I barely glanced at the menu; I already knew I was having the ramen. The only question was which one. My friend selected the eel bowl while I had the miso pork soup. The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. Came here for lunch to check the place out since the old owner retired. A lots has changed, and if you are a fan of the old Matsuchan you need to prepare yourself. I went by myself to check it out before I brought the rest of the family. There were good things, there were bad things. Let's start with the bad. The menu is greatly diminished in regards to the different kinds of ramen you can get. Curry? Gone. Hot n Spicy? Gone. Corn Butter? Gone. Champon? Gone. There are three choices. Unfortunately none of those three are ones my family likes so this will not be an option for them. The serving size is 1/3 of what it was. The number of included items in the ramen is greatly reduced. There is no carrying home leftovers for the next day becuse you will finish your meal. It is also a bit more expensive when you factor in what you are getting for the price you are paying. Now the good. Had the tantanmen which is a delicious spicy ramen. Noodles were springy and the egg was perfect. Service was top noch. Very polite. Ramen came out quickly. Water was refilled quickly and multiple times. AC works. Overall I will probably not be back. My favorite styles of ramen are gone. Quality food and service is nice, but unfortunately if you don't have the items I want to buy, I'll go somewhere else. If you know, you know. This place is under new management. A lovely family took over not too long ago. Service time wasn't bad, the guest service was 5 Stars, the mom was so sweet! The inside is a bit small, so larger group more than 6 may have a little bit of a wait. But still try. We had a small party of 3. Location isn't the best as there isn't much visibility for the shop, as it is located near the back of the strip-mall-shop. So, we tried a few different things - all of which were good. I will rate them 1 to 10, 10 being the best, 1 being not the best. 1. All of the Ramen dishes were delicious, 9 out of 10 2. The karaage was so good 10 out of 10 3. Does Shumai also tasty, 6 out of 10. 4. The sushi was fresh and delicious, 7 out of 10 5. Spring rolls, very very tasty, came to the table piping hot 8 out of 10. 5. We went back and we're so incredibly sad. They changed owners and as of June 10, 2025 the people that used to run this place no longer do it. Although the name is the same, the interior has completely changed the cute kitschy interior is completely wiped out. The menu is completely different. Where they used to have a lot of different Ramen options and noodle options all gone. Now they just have three Ramen all for either 16 or $17 each. The rest of it was sushi. We went on a Saturday night at about 6 o'clock and there was literally nobody else there. The restaurant was empty of other customers and the parking lot was pretty empty too. I was so incredibly disappointed. I honestly did not eat the food and didn't even order. We turned around and walked out. I was just sad that I went to a place that was called the same name and it was nothing alike. We drove 30 minutes to this place and won't come back. A family favorite. It's a small and cozy restaurant tucked in the heart of Canton. It seats literally like 20 people, so you always want to make sure you're going in between a rush. Everyone is always polite and efficient and the food comes out fast. You can't go wrong with ordering anything there, and it's affordable and so delicious. I've tried every single ramen dish on the menu and you literally cannot go wrong with anything. Although, we believe the owner (chef) is trying to retire and sell so hopefully if someone is buying it, they keep it the same. Update: came back and tried the Tantanmen. It's spicy but oh wow, this is my new favorite ramen. For those who don't know, Tantanmen is based off of the Sichuan dandan noodles dish. So Tantanmen is flavored with chili oil, sesame paste, and some soy milk I think. I tasted all of that! It's got the slightly nutty sesame flavor and the kick of the chili oil, added with some ground pork. It really amazed me. I think this is my favorite ramen dish now. read more

New ownership for a longtime Canton restaurant in a quiet strip mall on Sheldon Rd off of Ford Rd. Called to place a takeout order. Note: New number is 734-691-5045. Telephone number under former ownership is still listed on Yelp. Ordered over the phone for a california roll and chicken karaage appetizer. Cali roll was delicious, good sized pieces. The cali roll automatically comes with eel sauce on top so ask to not have sauce on it upon ordering if you definitely don't want eel sauce. The chicken karaage was tasty, crispy and seemed pre-marinated prior to frying. The dish comes with a light, sweet dipping sauce with a slight kick. The restaurant has been renovated and is very clean with a few tables for dining in. Upon arrival to pick up my order, the staff was very welcoming and courteous. Menu is limited but it provides the good basics of a simple japanese style meal. Ramen bowls, sushi, appetizers and a couple of poke bowls. A new owner took over the matsuchan in Canton Township at the Harvard Square. Original owner have retired for good after 30+ years offering affordable ramen, curry, fried rice and all Japanese traditional home cooking. The new owners retained the name matsuchan, renovated the old joint and offered new menu. It was disappointing to note that the menu shrink to only 3 soupy spicy ramen noodles. Most of the menu are sushi and Japanese fusion gyoza (fried) instead of steamed. No fried rice, no udon, no yakisoba, no yakiniku,no cold soba. What is more noticeable is the pricing of the menu compared to previous owner. Good luck my friends and customers! read more

Came back after several months as store was closed for renovations because owners retired and it changed hands. The good news is the interior looks clean and new....dirty carpet gone with pastel tile everywhere. Hours are 11:00 to 8 everyday with no more funky open/closed times. Bad news is smaller streamlined menu eliminating my wonderful "ramen set" for $11. In its place, was ramen bowl with thin sliced pork in light pork broth. Smelled like pork roast and was delicious! A small mom-and-pop ramen shop. We came there around just before noon and already full of customers as they have very limited seating. if there are no seats , you have to sign your name and phone number on the waiting list and they will call you when it's ready. You can't wait inside of their restaurant. Prices are super reasonable and affordable. Menu is a consist of ramen and other Japanese comfort foods including curry , onigiri and stir fries and such. I tried Tonkotsu ramen , it had a lot of noodles than I expected it made me so full. But to me the soup tasted overpowering with garlic flavor so I think I wanna try regular shoyu ramen next time. Also I ordered gyoza and it tasted fresh with lots of minced veggies which reminded me of gyoza shop at my town in Japan. It was definitely handmade and not a frozen ones that I appreciated a lot. Seriously hidden gem! So glad to have found this place tucked away in the corner of a strip mall. We went in for dinner and the place was full, not a big restaurant so expect to wait but it's definitely worth it. Very casual mom and pa style establishment which adds more to the appreciation. The waiter was very helpful as everything on the menu seems to be more authentic than your traditional American ramen that we've become accustomed too. I'm not sure I'll try Ramen from anywhere else anymore. I ordered the miso pork soup, my partner the corn butter soup as well as the rice balls and both were amazing. Got take out from here while in the area. I've been wanting to come here for a while as a recommended from my cousin but never in the area! It's a small place! They have specials and combo deals also but you might have to ask them about it over the phone. The hot and spicy ramen has a good kick but not too crazy but I'm not a huge fan of spicy ramen that is kimchi based. I really liked the miso pork ramen! The broth is beautiful. The marinated shoots is very sweet though. I don't think the miso pork ramen comes with an egg but the spicy ramen did! The meat dumplings weren't that great to me. Haven't been here in a while since I moved out of Canton, but they never disappoint. A bit small inside, so you may have to wait for a table if you hit the dinner rush.
