Memorial Day and celebrating my brothers birthday and he wanted sushi. Literally no sushi places between Novi and Farmington were open and then we found this place. Walking in should have told us what the experience would be, but I chalked it up to being a beautiful day and people probably cooking out instead of going out to eat. NOBODY there but us. Starting off, the waitress was extremely rude. Brother asked if he could get a bento box and she said yes, three bento boxes. Had to kindly clarify that myself and my husband were still looking at the menu and didn't want a bento box. She rolled her eyes and stomped away. I ended up with chicken teriyaki and tempura combination. My husband got the beef teriyaki and rice. My chicken was AWFUL, sliced super thin but it was extremely tough to chew and would not grind to small pieces. The tempura shrimp was super rubbery and I felt like I was chewing on a balloon. Both items I ended up basically swallowing whole because they would not reduce no matter how much I chewed. Now onto the worst item. My husbands teriyaki beef. He has been spitting and vomiting since we got home. He said it was really tough but it tasted ok. It had a lot of sauce on it so maybe that masked the rot. Only good thing was the miso soup, but you'd have to really try hard to ruin that. I would NEVER go back here. Between the extremely rude waiters and the awful food this place needs to be shut down. read more

One of your strip mall Japanese Sushi places that seem to be plenty of in this area. I needed to use chopsticks to keep my skills up and was hungry for sushi for supper. Since I was at the car wash in the parking lot, I decided to try. Ordered my normal order of dragon roll sushi. A little higher than normal price I pay. Waited on a chair in the empty dining room. About 10 minutes later, I paid for and got my meal. At least I could watch Fish TV since they don't have a live tank. When I got home, I found instead of tempura shrimp in the middle, it had that crab salad filling. Rest was normal dragon roll. Not impressed with it, average at best and that is being kind. Since I am moving, I will not be back but if I wasn't, I would stick to Busch's since it is also located in the strip mall. read more

It was beyond difficult to understand the woman that answered the phone, nearly impossible. I did manage to thrift out that they are open until 9PM and are open for dine-in after several tries. The word from the other tables is there is no sushi chef working here tonight. Ok. Should be interesting. They were skimpy about the sriracha, I asked for more. The woman brought the whole bottle for us to fill up ourselves. The dragon roll wasn't my favorite, way too thick for my liking. The scallop roll is okay, different. The Las Vegas roll is the better of the 3 rolls, but every few rolls something would taste odd, almost musty or moldy to me. My husband and I came here on a recommendation of a friend. We are arrive at about 5:30 PM on Thursday and there was nobody else in the restaurant. Should I have taken that as a sign? I still don't know. We were greater properly and given menus. The menus have seen better days. They were changes made to the sushi menus and they could've used a good wipe down. The server answered all of our questions and we placed our order. The miso soup arrived warm, not hot. But it tasted pretty good and I finished it. The side salad with ginger dressing was bigger than I expected. The ginger dressing was not the best that I've ever had nor was it the worst I've ever had (I felt maybe the dressing was more carrot than ginger). Personally I would've liked a more gingery taste to the dressing. We ordered sashimi and that was very fresh tasting. We also ordered a spider roll and that was quite good. We also ordered the Novi roll and this is pretty much the first time in history that I have never finished a roll. I really did not care for the seafood topping - it tasted a little funny to me. Maybe not spoiled but maybe it was on its last day. Or maybe it was the combination of ingredients that was not appealing. Bummer as there was a lot of that topping/salad on top of the roll. I scrapped that off and ate the main part of the roll. Personally, I will not be back as I really only enjoyed the sashimi. Because of the close proximity of this restaurant to our place of residence, we have been ordering carry out from Happy Sushi fairly frequently. I feel that it is important to update my previous review because, for the most part, the food is decent and their sushi is actually very good. The taste of their sushi has a flavorful profile. The seaweed and the ingredients come together very well, quite satisfying! They do make some mistakes with carry out, such as not following some requests or forgetting the rice that comes with certain dinners. It is a good idea to check your order before you leave. But, when everything comes together correctly, it is a decent to above average, at times, with their sushi consistently above average. One of the things I love about coming to my hometown is being so close to this restaurant! I can safely say I've been about 50 times at least in my life. It's nothing fancy on the inside, but the sushi is great!! I used to come here years ago and it was awesome, but for some reason the quality worsened over time, and now it seems to have shifted again into being great quality! That evening, I had the tuna roll with avocado which was okay since it included only tiny portions of the main ingredients. Much better was the mackerel nigiri and tamago, each with its own distinctive flavors. However, it was the Spider Roll that was spectacular. Since I am allergic to salmon (sad, I know), the chef replaced it with white fish. The fish was well textured, had wonderful mouth-feel, and was delicious with the other ingredients. They were willing to accommodate an allergy and bring a side dish of eel sauce for my date. The house special roll is GINORMOUS! I think I like the volcano roll and spider roll best. In the next 15 minutes our order came out, and the tables were full. Pretty much all Japanese patrons. We usually use that as a sign that the food is good. And it was. Prices are very reasonable and the variety of food that we sampled was all very good. I did not know this place was even there until I looked on Yelp for sushi joints in Novi. I just picked up a carry-out sushi roll from Happy Sushi. When I got home the container contained five small (half the size of regular pieces of sushi) pieces of sushi. I called to complain and they indicated that there should be 6 to 8 regular size pieces. I advised them that there were only five pieces. They offered to do nothing. she then became very argumentative with me. I then spoke to the manager who hung up on me. The customer service s non-existent. I have gone there numerous times over the past ten years and have not had a problem. I highly suggest that you carefully check your pick-up orders before you leave the restaurant. This used to be my favorite local sushi place. Now its under new management and boy has it changed. The Bang Bang shrimp used to have great taste and consistency with just enough sauce to add taste. Now it tastes line its been prepared frozen and nuked. Its drowned in a horrible tasting sauce to hide the fact. The las Vegas roll also seems to be frozen and nuked. The Novi roll tastes like its sesame crackers ground up in kelp and rice, then its smothered in fake crab and noodles.
