    Interior and waiting area

The service and food were 5 stars. I was greeted immediately (although it would be hard not to be-- the interior is small, and the welcome desk is immediately to your right when you walk in.) The menu is strong but limited, which I kind of like- limits decision fatigue, especially after a long day. I ordered the nigiri combo, for the cause. Nigiri is something I've only really gotten into this year, so I'm not an expert, but I know what I like and what I don't. Soft, sticky rice that feels fresh and adhesive but not clumpy, fresh smelling and looking fish. The California roll was a California roll. The nigiri was great however. The shrimp in particular was light and almost creamy tasting? I know that sounds odd but I mean it in a good way. The rest of the fish was good. I even tried eel (this is big for me) for the cause! It was rich and fatty, but not in an unpleasant way as I feared. It was pleasantly sauced, so I was able to try it sans soy sauce and was pleased! I *really* liked the soy sauce here, although they don't give you very much. They also are a bit stingy with the ginger. This was my first time trying tamago, which is a delicately sweetened egg roll stuffed with rice. If you're not used to it, you have to get over the look and just go for it! It's yummy! The restroom was clean but smelled faintly of cigarettes. To be honest... I didn't mind that. It kind of fit with the vibe and gave the restaurant a "real" "edgy" feel, although some people may not appreciate it. The interior is kind of messy and unkempt, but if you keep your eyes on the prize- the food- you'll leave happy!

Better sushi place on same road.

Was in Novi yesterday, used to eat here often precovid. Got a carry out order, Ajishin chirashi. The owner made it. As you can see in picture, he cut scallop & shrimp in half, maybe more, to look like more . Shrimp is not expensive! Better to go to One World Market nearby for fair portion.

I love the grilled fish combo that comes with a big bowl of udon. It's one of the few places with delicious grilled salmon belly. There is also an option to order grilled fish without the rice and udon. I was less impressed with my chirashi bowl. I wish it came with more fish. You can get a slightly better sushi deal down the road at One World Market. Service is friendly. Please be aware that this is a takeout restaurant only.

Take out only for dinner! I live in SoCal and this is one spot I'll trust in Michigan for freshness and quality. Amazing prices. Hard to beat. Sushi rice is fantastic and flavorful with sesame seeds and what tastes like rice vinegar. Hack: There is a Ding Tea a mile away, and the owner of Ding Tea was so chill about us eating our takeout Ajishin there (with us purchasing boba ofc).

Best udon hands down. I've been coming here for a decade and the food is still delicious and cheap. Since COVID, the restaurant has remained take-out only. The soup is so flavorful, salty, and umami. They serve other dishes like soba noodles, grilled fish, curry, and sushi which are also fantastic! Great portion sizes too. My top recommendations: - Kiyomizu: super simple udon with minimal toppings. Sooo good and perfect portion -- toppings really fill me up. - Kamogawa: duck udon with mountain vegetables. The duck makes the broth more fatty/rich in flavor and the duck pieces are delicious! - Ajishin: the classic. Contains a bit of everything, extremely filling and delicious. - Curry Rice: a must have! Such a thick and flavorful curry with a little bit of meat. They serve it with shrimp tempura which is so good. You can order a half order to go along with the udon! - Tamago nigiri: all the sushi is fantastic and cheap but the tamago nigiri at Ajishin is delicious and huge! This is a must try if you are ever in the area!

Ajishin is my absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Michigan! I've been going here for more than 15 years with my family and I love recommending it to friends. When dine-in was open, it would be the homiest, close quarters dinner place. Unfortunately they're still closed for dine-in. In terms of food, they provide the highest quality udon and sushi for very low prices with entrees ranging from $8-$16 typically. My favorites are the Duck Udon, the Curry Udon (Testsugaku), the Curry Rice, the egg nigiri, and the Himuro. The udons and curry are great for when you want a comforting and homey meal whereas the Himuro is a fresh light soba salad with sashimi that's beautiful and one of my favorite meals of all time! Lunch specials are also always a great deal, typically a sushi bowl or rolls with onigiri on the side. TLDR: Ajishin is well worth the wait and drive, come here for great sushi, udon, and more!

They were closed for the holiday and just resumed normal business hours again. I don't know if the prices of the entire menu went up, but the grilled fish set did! The yellowtail grilled fish set is $18 now (!!!) and yellowtail fish only is $11 (!!!). The fish set comes with rice and plain noodles. The grilled fish price is based on the type of fish (I.e. grilled salmon fish set is cheaper).

Ajishin Udon - super flavorful broth that I always finish
    Ailun H.

The Ajishin udon is always a hit. It's under $10 and the broth is always super flavorful! A lot of udon in Michigan is usually a miss and I genuinely think Ajishin's is the only one that is consistent and the one that everyone loves. I don't really have much to say about this because... you just have to try it. It's just THAT good. In terms of favorite restaurants in the metro Detroit, I have to say that Ajishin is in my top 3 list. The prices here in general are quite comparable and you can easily be full and satisfied for under $15! I also love their chirashi bowl but it's been awhile since I've had it.

They went above and beyond with designing up the interior space to make it appear like you might be in a small alleyway grabbing some food, very night market-style! Our waiter - Ruby!!! - was absolutely incredible from start to finish and given that I came here with 2 of my friends and it was all of our first times, she was able to break everything down for us succinctly and clearly. There is definitely a time limit per table - 90 minutes - and that pressure is put on you right away, but it ended up being the perfect amount of time so we didn't feel entirely rushed at the end of the meal by any means. It was just a lot at the top that essentially as soon as you are seated at your table, your time begins! So if you haven't been here before, I would definitely recommend taking a look at the menu ahead of time if you can just to get a bit of the lay of the land and make that start of the process easier. We had to choose right away which level of dining we were going to go for and thankfully, my group and I are very decisive so it wasn't a long conversation to decide (especially given the entire table needs to do the same level as well. Ultimately, we went with the Gold Wagyu set, which gives you Japanese Wagyu! I have heard the basic wagyu set (American wagyu) is not good, but that the Silver Wagyu set (Australian wagyu) is definitely decent. For our first time, we wanted to ball out and it was absolutely worth it! Each set gives you specific limited items as well and the ones at the Gold level - especially the wagyu nigiri - were to die for! Service was crazy fast, we placed an order for all of our meats and other side dishes we might be interested in on the tablet and then went up to the counter to get our sauces and other side dishes. By the time we got back to the table, all of our ordered items were there in a tower at our table and we basically only got up once or twice after that to replenish side dishes for the rest of the time. Everything we had was DELICIOUS, but the particular stars aside from the wagyu nigiri, were all the Japanese wagyu dishes AND the chicken skin gyoza. Holy guacamole we got so many of those lil chicken skin buggers because they were ADDICTING and I have never had anything quite so yummy before! I completely get the hype of Chubby Cattle! It is unlike hotpot anywhere else in Michigan right now so is definitely a place you want to check out if you're a lover of the hotpot style of dining. So fun, such a great time! I will definitely be back soon!

The premade food choices are growing by the day. They are always adding to their offerings with new flavors and tastes. I started coming to One world market in 1997 when it was first home by a husband and wife team. It was very special at that time to have a Japanese focused grocery store and I was so happy to have one in the Novi area. This has been my go-to for decades now. When it was transitioning from private ownership to the Noble Village group, owned by True World group, there was a transitional decline, thankfully, that didn't last long and things are developing very nicely. I hear even more growth is on the horizon as they establish an even greater presence in the building next door. I am also thankful that the integrity and the high-quality is very much present and everything they do. The service is always top notch and they try to open up a lot of lanes so people get through quickly because it is busier than ever. The word is definitely out. I've seen a lot of posts on social media and it's bringing in an even greater crowds, which is fantastic! Note: the on-line ordering is also so convenient and their sushi platters are high-level!

He did change our reservation time twice for us but that was the extent of my good experience here. Because of traffic, the friend meeting me was a little late so I sat alone for a little bit. I told our waitress that... she came back a little bit later saying "are you ready to order" .... My friend still hadn't come and I already told her that. The thing is, I understand forgetting so that's what I thought happened. But it became clear that her attitude was intentional. While I was sitting alone, I noticed an ant crawling on my table that I had to kill & I was seated next to some windows and there was subsequently a FLY that I also had to kill ("but you didn't have to kill it"... shut up yes I did) I also had a sushi menu that was already written on. I dont know weird. I understand the appeal of the old house converted into a nice restaurant but it still just smelled like old house and lowkey like rotting wood. The windows also were clean. I dont know it was just bad ambience until it got dark. NOW THE FOOD... The miso soup was my favorite thing on the menu. So that is saying something. My two rolls were underwhelming at best. The fish was chewy.. but a bad chewy. There was barely any fish. The cucumber kimchi was bad. The cucumbers were not good quality. It felt like they were old actually. At the end, our waitress was lowkey rushing us. I swear it was the most I had seen her all night. She set the bill down, would split it for us... she said she'd split it after we put our cards down... what does that mean??? So whatever, me and my friend just paid 50/50 on the bill. (Even tho the menu expressly said that they can't split bills for parties of more than 8). We were only two people. Whatever. Dont come here unless you're just interested in cute vibes.

My biggest con about this place is the layout of the restaurant. My party made reservations in advance for 8 people. Since this was our first time there, we weren't aware that all booths were only for 4 people, with no larger accommodations available. Despite our reservation, we ended up having to wait about 30 minutes for two tables to open up. They weren't even in the same part of the restaurant, unfortunately splitting up our party for our entire stay. The worst part is that three of the booths are directly in front of the door. It's Michigan, so every time that door is opened you are blasted with cold air to the point that everyone was eating with winter jackets on. I was seated in the second row into the restaurant and was still chilled every time the door was opened. Each table is supposed to have a plate deposit where it keeps track of how much you are charged. However, our table's plate deposit was broken and we were told to keep our plates on our table and add them up manually. This led to us having to keep a bunch of dirty plates in piles on the cramped table while we ate, not appetizing. This led to us being unable to pay on the tv, and to pay with one of the waiters. We handed the waiter our credit card to pay, and they ended up disappearing for about 45 minutes. We had to call over several people to track down the person that took our credit card so we could finally leave (the dirty plates stayed the entire time on the table). The sushi was yummy but those prices really add up quick. Each plate is almost 4$ and has two rolls each so you're left to either eat until you're full and have a high bill / keep track of your bill and end up hungry. Overall had a fun but frustrating experience. I've tried it once so I will recommend others to skip this place and head over to One World Market or head over to Sharaku in West Bloomfield instead.
