Ordered the Thai Fried Rice, Chicken Pad Thai, and Red Curry all with no spice! The Red Curry was spicy to me not sure if they forgot to not spice or if it's just spicy to me. The reviews had me scared but being deprived of good Thai food has me order three things lol. I ordered all of these during lunch 11am-3pm so they were $10 each! Also why have a $10 pho special on Tuesdays!!! I haven't tried the Livonia location but the Novi location was nice! Inside was clean and even tho I ordered the food for carry out they allowed me to sit down with my child and take a few quick bites! Very nice staff! Last thought: the Curry doesn't look appealing because the veggies look soggy and I didn't try the veggies yet...however I can say I wish they put more curry sauce in the container . I odered crab ragoons and Thai fried rice w chicken. The ragoons have no crab and is all CC. The rice has 10 peas and carrots and hardly any chicken. For $30 you'd think the meal would be good but it's shit. I called to complain and surprise surprise no manager on duty. Thai Basil is a good choice for solid Thai food in Novi! The menu has the standard Thai fare that you'd expect and the addition of Sushi is an interesting complement to it as well. Overall the food quality is good, and you do get a fair portion for the price -- it's a touch on the pricey side, but really not bad in terms of the 2022 market. Ordering takeout from here is a breeze and picking up is easy as well -- I especially appreciated that they went the extra step and added an extra plastic sealing bag for my dish that had curry in it so it wouldn't spill inside the paper bag. Overall I'd recommend Thai Basil if you're looking for Thai food in Novi! There are a lot of the options in the area, but I think Thai Basil makes a good case for itself if you're looking for solid local takeout. read more

So, my Dad and I went back to Thai Basil to try it out again. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai mild and he ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice mild. Apparently mild in this place means medium which means my tongue was on fire but I could still enjoy it. Next time I will have to say no spice. There were plenty of good size shrimp on both orders. My Dad loved his Shrimp fried rice and there is hoisin sauce and soy sauce on the table if you want to add to the flavor of your dish. Before the meal our waitress gave us free cups of chicken rice soup which were delicious. The restaurant was slammed at lunchtime, but she kept an eye on us and kept our drinks filled the whole time. Extremely disappointed by the customer service I was provided. My family and I have been customers of this joint for 5+ years, and have supported this business happily. My last experience with the takeout ordering over the phone was abysmal. The lady who picked up the phone (if the owner is reading this, working from 7-8 PM on Friday, 2/16) was very rude to me. I had to make some adjustments to our order on the fly, as they removed some items from the menu. As a result, she rushed my order, asked me if I 'was done' after every item, and told me to 'just stop and listen' to her repeat my order when I asked her to ensure there was no meat in any item at the end of my order. I repeated my request for no egg / meat a few times because the last time I came here, they added egg / meat when I specifically asked them not to. When I went to pick up my order, I asked her about her attitude, and she berated me with a very aggressive tone. She once again accused me of being too slow. Honestly so upset with this experience, and Thai Basil has lost a very loyal family of customers forever. It surprises me to see some poor feedback here, but we have been regulars at this restaurant and the service has always been outstanding. I've known the staff for a long time, particularly the young lady and young man who work there, and I've seen how kind they are to each customer, and they are usually beautiful in my experience. I am sad that they are not serving hot and sour anymore which is one of my favorites but the food is always great as usual. I tried Bang Bang shrimp to start and it tasted good. The food is good and the restaurant is presentable, clean lines and has plenty of space. There is something about this location that I just don't find quite as satisfying as the Livonia location. I think a part of it is the service. Although, our particular server was friendly enough, we had to wait and ask for refills and there was a mediocre level of attentiveness. There were a group of wait staff sitting at another table talking and laughing, they were the loudest people in the restaurant. We actually had to stand up and ask for some service and interior their boisterous conversation. Also, I was there for an early dinner and they didn't serve their usual soup prior to the meal, although, I did order dinner. Opened the shrimp pad khing and it was the smallest portion and only 4 shrimp. a ton of rice but thats not what I'm paying for and it was 13.00. The spring rolls didn't have flavor and were over fried. I also used to get the granny apple salad and they have discontinued all salads. Probably because they don't have the business they used to. I used to frequent the Thai Basil in Livonia and decided to give this one a try. Very disappointed. I asked many questions about my order, making sure everything was vegetarian. Then the waitress brings me a complimentary soup of the day. I said I don't think that's vegetarian and she insisted it was, that it only had egg. I asked another staff member who then checked with the kitchen, and yep it has chicken. This is very frustrating as a customer. I expect staff should know what's in the food. This would have made me very sick. I had pad thai, it was ok, it wasn't as good as what I used to get in Livonia. Didn't care for the spring roll either. Another small but annoying thing, I was seated near the "bar" where it looks like all the staff hang their coats. Someone's cell phone was dinging every few minutes. read more

I can only assume a change in either management or owner as the quality and customer service has gone down. Three different items in my $50 order (without the endless fees) was incorrect. Gave the Novi location a call, they pretty much said my only option was to bring the old order in, and they would give me a replacement.... I just spent $+10 on fees... I I wanted to drive and pick up the meal, I would have done that in the first place. They made three mistakes for what ever reason, and they want me to drive in to get replaced? I was telling her that is not what I received and tried to get a refund for the person who paid but that did not happen. It's functional, but I won't be back, as there are too many better Thai places to go to in the area. I had their Vegetable Curry with chicken, medium spice, which was pretty weak overall. It was certainly eaten, as were the leftovers, but it would get an overall C-minus grade from me. The sauce itself wasn't distinctive and lacked depth in spades, and was ulitmately disappointing. Again: completely edible, but nothing I want again. I also started out with their Tom Yum Soup with chicken, and that took quite a long time to come out, considering it was my starter, and it, too, disappointed. It had an uneasy smell to it to begin with, and while its taste was a bit better than its smell, it was still quite disappointing. Far, *far* too many onions (and this is coming from a guy who loves onions!), and compared to many other Tom Yums I've had in the area, this would bring up the rear, or at least be in the last few places. I'd give it a grade of D...it was eaten, and that's about it. I will say that it wasn't a bad price of $4, considering that it was chock full of solid food as well, but the soup itself is just off-putting. Don't get it. Service was...odd. It took quite some time to get my soup initially, which is very strange. There were two (2) occupied tables in the place, mine included, and for large stretches of the meal, no server was to be seen. My water glass was empty for a good stretch before it was filled back up. Servers seemed to hole up in the back/kitchen rather than the floor, which, considering that there were only two tables to attend, I can't figure out. I still tipped 20%, but do not feel they earned it. I was darned near $20 out the door after tax and tip, and I could have spent significantly less for considerably better food elsewhere. I always get a bit apprehensive about Thai places that also serve clearly non-Thai food...and this place has their own sushi bar. That should have been a clue to me. Best PadThai around. The crunchy peanuts and sauce are extremely savory and perfectly balanced with heat. I cannot get over how amazing everything was. We even got the pineapple curry and it was the perfect sweet and savory coconut curry sauce you ever did spoon. Feel really bad for calling the wrong location last time (called Livonia location instead of Novi). But I made up for it today by trying TWO entrees. It amazed me how the staff handled well such a day. I went here for the first time with my mom tonight. Bought a groupon a while back and it's close to my parents' place, so I wanted to try it out. I think it's new-ish, and presentation was very good. We started off with the cucumber sushi and the chicken satay, the sauce with the satay was delicious. I ordered the pad Khing and my mom got pad cashew. I ordered mine mild but I found the sauce to be a bit spicy. My mom ordered tofu and no onions, and they brought her chicken with onions for hers, but when she alerted them to the mistake they quickly fixed it and made her a fresh dish. We had $40 to use, so for dessert we got the fried cheesecake, with red bean ice cream, which was amazing, and also some sort of rice sugar dessert. Both desserts were very big and could have been split amongst four people. I liked the red bean ice cream the best and they also had vanilla bean and a few other flavors. I'd come here again when in the area, their lunch specials start at $8.25 which isn't bad. Sy Thai continues to be my favorite but that's more towards my part of town. read more

I have been a fan of the Livonia location since I started working in the area and went often for lunch. I was pleased to see one open up on this side of town. I have been to this location a few times since it opened. It's offerings are very similar to the one in Livonia. Your typical Thai food, plus a sushi bar. Everything I have had is excellent. I have never had better Thai in the metro Detroit area. My favorite dish is the Pad Cashew, hot. I'm also a big fan of their hot and sour soup. The noodles were huge but the only problem is that there wasn't enough vegetables and the chicken tasted a little weird. But I still loved it. I also got the sushi roll which was beautiful and tasted great. I also got the pork pad Thai which was huge and good as well. The server was nice and the food came out fast. My mom and I went here during her lunch break, she was excited to take me out for thai food. The restaurant was freezing and the waitress kept forgetting our hot water. My mom wanted the tom yum soup, but the waitress explained that the lunch special we ordered only comes with the soup of the day. They were not very flexible with switching the soups. The food was alright, my mom said my Drunken Noodles was too salty compared to her Pad Thai. The spice level was pretty food for our taste. The one thing I was disappointed about this place was the attitude of the employees. I tried to use the 10% off your entire bill yelp deal, but the waitress said we could not.
