Excellent place. Small menu but totally awesome and caters to most of us. Good idea for the pickup or a casual dining. The inside eating place is shared with a Deli place and outside eating area is shared too with a funky nice setting. We went for lunch and were able to secure a seat inside for 4 easily. I ordered OG Veggie Bowl with low spice. It was really amazing and flavorful. Unlike other places, the bottom portion of rice was not plain- flavorful from top to every grain of the rice. The server rightfully warned about the spice LEVEL. Dare you to order spicy level. Medium was super good and tasty but as expected, it was spicy but perfect with the potato chips. Our time in this wonderful college town will be coming to an end soon. So gotta start hitting up the places have on my list to try. This is one of them. We had eaten breakfast kinda late so we decided to order two bowls for the three of us. We ordered the pulled pork bowl and the pork belly bowl. They were delicious! The pork belly was so tender, practically melted in my mouth. The pulled pork was very good. They were both tasty and flavorful. Portion size we thought were generous, considering it came with two packed scoops of rice. We skipped the veggie bombs. There is parking in the back and you can enter through the back entrance. The dining area is shared with York Food and Drink. Ricewood's ordering window is towards the front of the building. Service was friendly and efficient. There is a self-serve water station. There are plenty of tables. We will have to return so I can try the brisket next time! read more

This place is located at a very cool place called the York. The dish I had was a rice bowl with smoked tofu and all the veggie bombs with a medium sauce. I really enjoyed the smoked tofu flavor and it had a nice amount of veggies and it tasted great. The portion was big enough that my wife and I split the bowl and were both satisfied. The service was quick and easy just step up to the ordering counter and let them know what you want. The person taking the order was very friendly and helpful to answer any questions we had. The food came out pretty quick too. Even though there were a few orders ahead of us we got our order very quickly. As I said earlier this place is located in the York and it has a very cool and relaxing atmosphere. If you want to enjoy the day you can sit outside on the patio which has many shaded areas to sit if you don't feel like being indoors. My only advice would be to be weary of parking because due to the Yorks popularity parking can be tight. read more

Wow, twice in one trip! We enjoyed our first visit to Ricewood so much, we planned another meal there before we left for AZ. First visit was a Sunday lunch, they were out of almost everything. I enjoyed the tofu bowl, while the rest of my party all had burgers. On the second trip we all ordered brisket bowls. The rice base is seasoned and includes small chopped scallions and tomatoes, but for veggies there is a choice of slaw, pickles, etc in the bowl. The brisket was huge nearly slabs, very little waste and super tender. The bark is a salty spicy Asian seasoning and so unique! What a great value, portion and quality for a walk up shared seating kind of venue. Very crowded at peak times, but don't let that or their limited parking deter your from trying it! read more

This Ricewood location is inside York, one of my favorite cafes in Ann Arbor. As with York, I appreciate the outdoor seating area. I've only tried the pork belly, which is solid, but I'm not a fan of sauce that is drizzled on top. Next time, I will ask that no sauce be added to my meat. I think the rice bowls are overpriced for the amount of meat provided, which is why the second time I visited, I ordered only meat by the pound. I am seconding what another Yelper recommended: skip the rice bowl. I'd say just order the meat, take it home, and prepare your own rice and vegetables. read more

I was recommended to come here by a coworker. Didn't think much of it until I looked up and read the high ranked reviews. So I decided to finally swing by this place for lunch. I did have a confusing time finding where this place was. There was no parking in the front, so I drove to the back of the building and that's where I saw the entrance and the giant grill. Luckily that's where I found parking as well. I walked in the building and took a look around as I searched for ricewood. The ordering window was located in the front of the building, of course. Service was amazing. The guys were so cool and down to earth. I couldn't decide between the pork belly and brisket bowl, so I got both with the cucumbers and cabbage. I waited no more than 10 minutes before my food was ready. I tried the pork belly first. It was decent. I then tried the brisket and my whole body melted to the floor. Hands down, that has to be some of the best brisket I've ever tasted. I couldn't stop eating it! It was beyond delicious! And when you eat all the ingredients together in one bite, it's like heaven in your mouth. I only planned on eating half the bowl for lunch and the other half for dinner. That plan went straight out the window! It was just too good! I'm very impressed with the flavor profile of this establishment. Crazy, unbelievably good. Decadent BBQ paired with Korean banchan-ish toppings and accoutrements. Who knew? The bbq is really really high quality stuff. Great smoke ring and fattiness on the brisket. This is a good/bad review. I'll break this into a few parts. Meat: Let's start with the star of the show... the meat. Brisket was the best I've ever had. So frickin delicious. I also ordered a 4 ribs which also tasted great. Zero complaints about the meat. Rice: The rice was also great and had some fresh scallions and I added on Sesame Cucumbers. Sauce: I think where it went a little south for me was the sauce they put on the rice. It had a strong taste that over powered the rice and topping. I would have probably requested that on the side in the future. It was the medium sauce (which was more of a 8 of 10 than a 5 of 10). I was warned that the hot was super hot... I should have probably went with the mild. Not sure if the hot/medium/mild taste any different but for me the medium was not to my liking. Don't want to get anyone confused with the bbq sauce which was super flavorful. The service was fast and super friendly. This is from the Packard St. Located in a mini food mall on. Their window is at the very front of the building. There is also a full service bar and wine bar located in same place (not part of Ricewood) so you can always grab a beer or cocktail to go with the your meal. I would definitely go back but skip the rice bowl and go for a sandwich or straight meat instead. read more

I heard Ricewood has the best brisket in town but somehow missed the memo it was Asian fusion with rice and I expected to have traditional BBQ with Mac and cheese and other southern sides. Tried Ricewood with friends for the first time this month despite hearing about it from friends. Ricewood operates out of a small stall in the front of the building. Since it was our first visit, the cashier gave us free Kool-aid which was incredibly refreshing and sweet on a hot day. I ordered the pork belly rice bowl with sesame cucumber bomb mild side. The meat was fatty and juicy with a smoky flavor -- generous servings too! The only thing I didn't care much for was the tomatoes that were added in. This time around, I was preoccupied with work and did not do my usual due diligence. So when I entered Ricewood into Google Maps and quickly took a digital tour of the area for parking, I have to admit, I did not see the restaurant. I still headed out. While Google was able to pinpoint the location, I drove past it because I only saw the sign for York Food and Drink and not the one for Ricewood. I quickly re-routed and pulled into a back lot to discover the local area. Ricewood is located at the very front of the York Food and Drink property, operating from behind a small interior window, beside the bar. Their menu of offerings marks the spot. This menu is simple, rice bowls, sandwiches, and a few sides, the difference depending on the barbecued meat. I ordered the brisket rice bowl (served in a compostable bowl), tender and marbled brisket paired with soy- and vinegar-flavored rice topped with scallions and tomatoes. It was so tasty - and that's not just hunger speaking. The rice flavors paired so well with the richness of the Texas-style brisket, who would have thought? Additionally, I ordered 8oz of the indulgent pork belly for dinner later on in the day which was also tasty. With a seat by the window, I enjoyed my quick meal while enjoying the lively space. Been wanting to try this place for a while. Glad I finally did! I loved that I could pick the level of spice in my brisket bowl. I picked the top level -- it was flavorful, but not super spicy. I've only tried the pulled pork but its pretty good especially with the spicy bbq sauce. The sides weren't anything special but did add nice balance of acidity of freshness beside the rice and meat. I had the Bork belly rice bowl. The portion was reasonably big, with ample pork belly over two big scoops of rice. The pork belly was more dry than I had hoped, and the sauce used in the dish was much more sour than sweet with almost no Asian notes. I asked for "maximum spicy" but could barely detect any heat. The fusion landed decidedly further towards the bbq than the Asian component, while I had hoped for the opposite. I also tried the pulled pork, which overall lacked flavor and was likewise dry. I have loved the BBQ here and it is still good, but something seems to have changed. There is a major lack in flavor. The Bark on the Pulled Pork, Brisket and Pork Belly has little to no flavor. Fridays are wild. I called at 5:30pm and got the last bbq bowl entree. That is saying something! 2) If eating with someone, order two entrees and split it. 3) Beware of spice level! Everything has a kick. I got the mild, and it was more on the moderate side, but it made me love it even more. BRISKET. That's the review. That's it. Kidding. I've been a pretty frequent visitor of York these days (Ricewood is located inside York). The first time I tried Ricewood was when we stopped into York's outdoor dining space for dinner during an evening with the Paella truck. Since the line was long, I was looking for a lil' something to nosh on while we waited. Ricewood's online ordering/pick up system was super convenient & easy to use. They sell their brisket in half pound increments. The first time, I went with a conservative half pound. The second time, I went for 1.5 pounds. The brisket is tender, really nicely smoked and just really dang good 'cue -- especially since we're not in the south! It comes with both a side of BBQ sauce AND their finadene (which is available in various heat increments but I am ALL about their spicy one. I'm going to note that it's completely unnecessary to sauce this brisket because it's that good BUT if you want to amp up the flavor, it's a nice touch. I have encountered a few times where Ricewood is out of the brisket. So, if it's available, you best order it! The service is awesome too. One time, their online system put my order as the next morning & I was grateful that someone from Ricewood called me to double check. The most recent time, I was in York to buy some bubbly and I figured I'd check if they had the brisket available & the guy happily helped me even though their ordering is all online right now. Today's BBQ adventure comes from this walk-up, fast restaurant that is housed by YORK Food and Drink. My brisket rice bowl had some of the best brisket I have had...maybe ever! So delicious!! The guy who took my order was quite jovial, and I enjoyed a quick conversation with him as I let him describe the add-on bombs for my rice bowl. I added the red cabbage slaw, the house kimchi, chili crisp, and pickled red onions to the mix and was thrilled with my portion and the spice. The spice may be too much for some as my mouth was screaming for something cool to go along with it, but I love that sensation! If you're looking for someone to serve you at a table, this is not the place as you have to walk up to the counter to place your order. Don't let that deter you, however. It's definitely quality BBQ with an unusual Asian twist. My friend loved his pork belly bowl however my brisket was really fatty. I ended up with a pile of fat that was about half of the meat portion. I know brisket is suppose to have fat but not that much. I'll try it again and maybe order the pulled pork. Also, the purple cabbage (veggie bomb) I added was really spicy making my mild spice bowl a bit too spicy for me. The high top chairs are very, very small. I don't have a huge backside but I was struggling to keep from falling off the chair the whole time. They are so shallow. I would challenge the people who work there to try to sit on the chairs and eat a meal! I think the chairs were ordered for looks without anyone actually trying them out. read more

After failing (once again) to get to the Bao Boys before they ran out of food, we decided to give Ricewood a try and boy were we glad we did! We tried a brisket sandwich, some chicken and a rice bowl and all were absolutely delicious! The rice bowl was amazing and the highlight. The pork belly was done to perfection and the various veg and condiments included were so flavorful. I love coming in here for a quick bite. There may be a bit of a line but service is friendly and quick and the meal is always worth it. Love the tacos so come on taco night if you can! Oh Damn! Mhhmm! Amazing BBQ with an Asian flare!? I.am.in.love. Dad has been wanting to try their Brisket for the last week. (capital B because this Ricewood meat owns the name) He missed it the day before but wasn't going to get beat today. It was 11:15am and the line was a dozen people thick. The chalkboard menu is small. Brisket is available by meat alone, or on a rice bowl. To have the full experience, I choose a Brisket bowl with the cucumber ($1) and kimchi ($1) bomb, 50/50 heat. (thanks for the advise long-haired guy salivating ahead of me in line) Some of the customers were apprehensive of getting to the window, which made me pay attention to what was going on. The guy at the window was on it! Step up, order, pay, step aside. No dottling. If you didn't know yet, then step off until you do know. When we reached the window, I was happy that the dude was friendly and easy to ask a question or two. We ordered our bowls to go and went to find seats. The BBQ sauce is only one kind and it's good. Sweet, spicy, smoky and pineapple! Though once I got my bowl in front of me, it didn't need any sauce. The Brisket has an amazing crust, full of flavor to savor. My bowl was full of rice, with a couple fat slices of the meat, topped with a chuck of brunt end. Score! The meat just melts in your mouth but you have that crunch of the crust that is just the right amount of salt and mix of flavors that you just can't quite identify. The 50/50 spice level was no joke. If you like spicy, try the 50/50 first. If you are a wuss, don't get spice at all. The cucumbers were a nice addition, and the kimchi was fresh and flavorful. The parking lot is small and busy, so be patient, or get out of the way. Get there early for the Brisket. It sells out. read more
