There's a big menu and you can order through a QR code as you go, dim sum style., The food was good and I'm willing to return to try more, but I wasn't totally blown away. - shrimp and pork dumplings - pretty good! Never had a full shrimp dumpling like this before. - scallion pancake with beef - maybe our favorite thing here? Love the hoisin sauce inside. - sweet and sour chicken with peach. I knew it would be sweet and let my boyfriend order it anyway, haha. It is basically what you'd expect. The chicken is thin and fried and has a nice texture. - ma la soup dumplings - not much ma la flavor or effect in here, but tasted okay enough. - egg custard buns - my boyfriend liked these, but I took a bite and they were not for me. It had a gritty sugar texture that coated my teeth. I was expecting, well, custard. I typically like these, but not the ones here. Wish there was an option like this in Cleveland! It really had everything I could want in a "xiao chi" (little eats) eatery. The space was minimalistic but chic and had ample seating. The lighting was very pleasant and you could see the master chef making perfectly uniform baozi and jiaozi through the glass. Our party of 4 ordered: 2x xiaolong bao steamers, 1 chicken shengjian bao plate, 1 chili wonton place, double fried string beans. No leftovers at our table, everything was picked clean. The xiaolong bao were wide and plump! The chili wontons were so juicy and delicious. The condiments at every table were great and we used all 3. The shengjian bao were way too small though and burnt. My dad's are actually better. Everything else was authentic and absolutely tasty. Prices were about what you'd expect and portions were more tapas-format but I wouldn't say anything was overpriced. I like physical menus so I wasn't thrilled with the QR code-only menus. I also didn't like only being able to order for 1 table from one phone. Our server was friendly and quick. Very tasty and fresh! The texture of the noodles were perfect and the sauce was amazing. The tofu was slightly spicy but not too much. The spicy bao/dumplings were not really spicy but they tasted so good! They did have meat inside. Whenever I'm in Ann Arbor I get overwhelmed with all the great food options, especially the variety of Asian food. I found this spot on Yelp and decided to stop by with Nate while we were in town recently. The space is really pretty and has a nice vibe inside. It would be a great place for a group. You order on a QR code at the table and then go up to the counter to pay. We ordered a bunch of stuff: -pork xiao long bao -garlic green beans -scallion oil noodles with meat -pan fried chicken bun Everything started coming out quickly after I submitted my order online. The garlic green beans were probably my favorite item, honestly. They were cooked well and super garlicky and very salty. Maybe a little too salty, but I loved them. The XLB were hot and had a good amount of soup, but they were a little lacking in flavor for me. I added some of the vinegar from the table which helped. The chicken buns were super hot and fresh (everything was) and an interesting version I'd never had before. Again, not a ton of flavor, but the textures were nice and they seemed to be cooked well. I really liked the meat that came on the scallion oil noodles - it was very aromatic and super tender. The noodles were bouncy and tasty, though I wish I had gotten a spicy noodle dish. Service is minimal, no one ever came by our table but that was okay. I would come back and try other things - the menu is pretty large. read more

Checked the place out with the family and we got the following items: - Chili Oil Wontons x 1 - Cucumber Salad x 1 - Pork Xiao Long Bao x 1 - Shengjian Pan Fried-Buns x 2 - Hot & Sour Soup x 1 - Taiwanese Spicy Beef Noodle Soup x 1 - Veggie Fried Noodles x1 Of all the items we ordered, our favorite was the Shengjian Pan Fried Buns. We loved that crispy crust on the bottom, inside was juicy and moist. Shengjian pan fried buns over pork xiao long bao. Our other favorites were the cucumber salad, but we would recommend you add the chili oil to enhance the flavor profile. While the hot & sour soup was ok, it lacked the "sour" part; definitely can use more vinegar to make it "sour". We were finished, but we never got our 2nd set order of the pan fried buns. We asked the waiter for our check and asked him to pack up the 2nd order in a to go box. We got our check and the to go box with our second order of pan fired buns that we never got. As we were ready to pay and leave, the waitress told us that our order is being prepared. Confused, we inquired and it seemed like the waiter had entered another order for the pan fried buns. We weren't sure why the waiter ordered another pan fried buns, they couldn't explain it to us and we never saw the waiter again. There was no apology, no offer to remove the item from our check, just forced to wait 10 minutes for the order that we never made and pay for the extra order. The whole experience left us amused and at the same time bit angry. I just hope this isn't their business practice. They have a lot of room for improvements. read more

Newest Chinese restaurant in town and I'm pretty dang impressed. It's the best XLB I've had in Michigan. They opened Jan 26 so fairly recently but it's a more casual experience. Yes, they'll seat you but you order thru a QR code posted at the table (unique one for each table so they know where to bus the food). We tried quite a bit of the menu between the two of us: *Green Onion Pancake w.Beef Shank - loved the green onion pancake itself - it was flaky and crispy as it should be. However, the beef shank amount was so minimal. Flavors were good though and liked the addition of cucumber in this one for some freshness. *Pork Xiao Long Bao - while it's no Din Tai Fung (a girl can dream, I know) - I'm really impressed! Thin skin and super juicy and soup-y. As per the right way, my tongue is slightly burnt. *Shengjian Pan-Fried Buns - Is it the best shengjian bao I've ever had? No. But best I've had in Michigan? Yes. It's crispy on the outside. It's really just missing the juicy interior. *Chili Oil Wontons - if you doctor this up with the black vinegar and soy sauce, it helps but otherwise was pretty mid. *Pork Pocket Bun - I believe this is their take on rou jia mou which is basically like a chinese hamburger. But, it was dense and oily. I liked the flavor of the pork but that's about it. *Whole Shrimp & Pork Potstickers - super unique! Really like the crisp they got on this. *Hot & Sour Soup - found this really flavorful and punchy! Delish. *House Beef Noodles Soup ( Clear Broth) - I'll say this, they can compete with Lan City on the depth and deliciousness of their broth. *Dry-Fried Green Beans - They have garlic green beans and dry-fried. Came here for my birthday dinner celebration with my family! I really wanted to try it and it was delicious! We ordered the green onion pancakes, jia jia mien, shao lum bao, pan fried shao lum bao, deep fried green beans, and shrimp and pork dumplings. It was a Sunday evening and not too crowded. The waiters don't walk by or check on us so it was hard to get what we needed until food was brought to us (like extra napkins and more chili oil). The decorations are simple but clean and there is plenty of parking outside in the plaza lot. You order using the QR code and pay in front at the register. The green onion pancakes were delicious and light and perfectly crispy! The jia jia mien had a sweetness to it so it tasted different but it was good! It is not worth getting the extra meat (it's just about 3 pieces of beef and not worth paying for). The shao lum bao was big and came in a box of 6. It tasted good and was juicy! The pan fried version of shao lum bao was also delicious and very hot. The green beans were very tasty but a bit too greasy for me. The shrimp and pork dumplings were huge and tasted ok. I came for lunch based on a recommendation from a friend and the food didn't disappoint! I was told there were Xiao long bao and other Taiwanese-style dishes like scallion pancakes and beef noodle soup. To opt for a lighter lunch we ordered the green onion scallion pancake with beef, beef noodle soup, and the Xiao long bao. Food was so delicious and perfect for sharing. The interior of the restaurant was bright and airy and while it's not the biggest space, still plenty of seating. 1 star dropped for the slightly slower service - you order via QR code, but can't pay the same way so you're left waiting for the check whenever they come over to your table. Baobao is the best new Chinese restaurant in Ann Arbor. It is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in the Ann Arbor and metro Detroit area for value, service, cleanliness, and taste. The restaurant is beautiful and service was excellent from the moment I walked in. I was served hot tea and ordered what I wanted on my phone using a QR code on the table. The food was authentic Chinese and the portions were large. The beef in the Spicy Beef Noodle soup was tender and the noodles were handmade in-house. I loved the pan-fried buns and wontons. You can't go wrong with any of the noodles or dumpling options. I also enjoyed the Wasabi Mayo Shrimp which were large pieces of battered fried shrimp drizzled with a tasty wasabi mayo sauce. Would have been five stars if we hadn't gotten the phoenix buns. The pig ears and soup dumplings and pan fried buns were amazing; highly recommend. Lots of soup in the buns all around. I never had a sweet tooth, but would have told people that I had a savory tooth. As I got older, I realized that it was actually probably an umami tooth. So any new restaurant that might hit that umami spot is one that I want to check out. My inaugural visit was a recent one with a group of friends for dinner. We all gathered around a large table and perused the menu. The restaurant is so nicely decorated, very light and casual but elegant at the same time. I got the Beef Noodle Soup and it hit the spot. I love something hearty and soothing when weather is chilly, and their soup fit the bill. Everything we had was really good. You order and submit via phone from the menu scan. The waiter still comes and brings the bill or you can check out at the counter. The chilly oil wontons were not drenched in sauce like I am used to eating them however you can do that with sauces provided at table. The soup dumplings were very good similar to what I have had in San Francisco or Toronto. A nice amount of broth in each dumpling rich in flavor. The whole prawn/pork dumplings takes potstickers to the next level. The pan fried pork dumplings are in my top 5, a good amount of juice explodes from the dumpling when you eat these, which is normal and absolutely delicious. The beef noodles were solid. Baobab Asian Eatery is fabulous! We immediately liked the entire aesthetic of the restaurant upon entering. It feels upscale even though it's in a strip mall. Staff was helpful and friendly. You scan a QR code and order on your phone. They must have unique QR codes for each table so they know where to deliver it. The only unfortunate thing is that there aren't fully descriptions of the menu items on the ordering site. We ordered a pork XLB (soup dumplings), chicken XLB, Shengjian pan fried buns (which are actually like a fried XLB), scallion pancakes, and combo fried noodles. Everything, and I mean everything, was delicious. I've had what are supposedly the best XLB in California (Din Tai Fung), Chicago (Imperial Lamian, now Phat Phat), and New York (Joe's Shanghai) and these were right up there! They were also the biggest and meatiest XLB I've ever had. The fried XLB were super interesting - they were fried to a crisp on the bottom and soft on top, which was excellent for holding in the soup in the dumplings. The combo fried noodles clearly had homemade meaty noodles and a delicious sauce. It turned out to be a little too much food for the three of us, but I'm glad we tried it all. Came over to AA specifically to BaoBao based on a Tik Toc review. The food was easily 5 starts and was incredible. The restaurant is new and needs basic things. Regular size napkins are needed desperately. Cleanliness on the soy sauce & chili oil trays could use some work. They served hot tea in a water glass, seems small but a coffee cup would go along way. Nice modern space. We came on a weekday for lunch and it was pretty busy. When you come in, you check in at the front desk and select a spot. You order via the phone. We ordered the pan friend soup dumplings, pork soup dumplings, spicy beef noodle soup, and potato salad. I was most excited about the pan fried soup dumplings, since this is one of my favorite dishes from Shanghai. Unfortunately, I felt these lacked flavor and the texture was a little different. However, this is the only restaurant in the area that serves these to my knowledge! Our favorites were the regular soup dumplings (lots of soup, lots of flavor) and the noodle soup! I took a star off because service was on the slower side--I assume this is because they are still new and hopefully will figure out their flow soon! read more

What a welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Ann Arbor. Best new Chinese Restaurant in Ann Arbor. I've eaten here twice (once during the soft opening). Before the food review, kudos for the modern decor and free parking. Now, onto the food. This is not your typical Sino/American eatery; for example, you won't find General Tso's chicken on the menu. Instead, an array of Shanghainese specialities. The soup dumplings (Pork Xiaolongbao) were fantastic. Caution, they are very hot (temperature) when they're brought to the table. My favorites were the pan fried pork dumplings. Just incredible. Also very hot when delivered. read more

Finally found a go to spot for dim sum! The soup dumplings were the one of the best I had and the service was quick and welcoming!

Definitely will be going back. We tried Bao, pan fried buns, shrimp fried rice, pancakes, potstickers, and Szechuan chicken. It was all tasty! We took our food to go. The pan fried buns were still crispy when we got home. The Szechuan chicken was spicy but not too much.
