First time trying here and I ordered the general tso chicken, coconut chicken, with chicken fried rice. The rice was lacking flavor the gents didn't taste like its supposed to taste like but not in a bad way. Just different flavoring. Like maybe the wrong sauce. The coconut chicken wasn't really my cup of tea because of so much Shredded coconut in it i amglad the sauce was on the side for this dish. But the chicken inboth dishes were not overly battered and both dishes were big sizes. The spring rolls are really yummy. Walking into the restaurant and it's not really inviting for sit down and eat, there were only 6 tables in there so this establishment is bet to get TOGO. I paid $12.50 for Mongolian Beef and got home to see the dish was 90% onions through and through. NASTY. 1/10 The crab wontons were tasty (crab cream cheese, and more onion). 8/10 Walnut Chicken was delicious and filled with chicken and walnuts. I want to start off by saying that I used to eat here as a teenager/young adult and the food was amazing! I moved out of the area, and every once in a while would stop in for takeout. Over the years the quality of the food has just gone downhill. Yesterday's experience was probably one of the most disappointing. I live about 40 minutes away from there, and after getting home and looking forward to a familiar/delightful dinner, I unpacked the food and the order was wrong, so that made me unhappy right away. can't go back to change it - too far away - oh well. I used to remember cutting open my eggrolls and finding little shrimp inside. Not anymore. Yep, not a single shrimp did I observe in 3 separate egg rolls. On top of that, they were greasy. The eggrolls used to be amazing! They were my absolute favorite part of the whole experience. The sweet-and-sour chicken used to be off the chain. Not anymore. I am so sad that the place is just a shell of what it used to be. It's missing the love! Back in the day I'd give this place 5+ stars. Today it's just another average Chinese food restaurant. I was excited to try this place after it was recommended to me on our local community page by a couple of people. Man, what a disappointmen. The spicy Thai noodles had no sauce, and definitely no spice. The General Tso's was not general Tso's. My daughters shrimp and broccoli was overly salty and my sons Lo Mein had more bean sprouts than noodles. The white rice was dry and undercooked And the egg rolls, just flat out gross. Used to love coming here with my family since I was a kid. After years of eating there and an owner switch, things tasted different. No big deal, everyone cooks different. We've been ordering things meatless for 8 years now. Randomly, last trip there we order the Vegetable soup and the server (who has given us this soup for years) says "it has chicken broth." WHAT?! WHY?! I just can't even imagine why you'd do that. The addition of tofu dishes doesn't overcome the fact they use chicken broth in vegetable soup. When 5 of the 7 of us passed on soup, the server told us he'd bring us extra spring rolls instead. Fun fact - they then charged us for the extra spring rolls! Service has progressively gotten worse/slower anyway. We've been told 30 minutes and ended up waiting an hour or more for our food more than one time. It was our last time there, sadly. read more

Ordered sesame chicken, an extra eggroll, wonton soup and crab rangoon. I'm not sure what the sesame chicken is supposed to be besides gross! The crab rangoon eggroll and spring roll was completely disgusting. 33 bucks wasted. Both rolls were mushy and tasted like fish and dirty oil. Horrible!!!! I have not ordered here in quite a while, today I remember why. I got a general tso dinner and side of Rangoon. The chicken looked like it was frozen nuggets with sauce drizzled over it. Tasted the same. No vegetables in the general tsos, Hardley any sauce over it. The egg roll was small and looked and tasted like it was oven baked. Same with the Rangoon. Hands down my favorite place to get Chinese. The actual building is shabby on the outside, but inside it's always pristine and the staff are very friendly. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and one of the things that I loved the most about it was that not only was I getting great food, I was also getting a great experience. I know some yelpers have said that their experience at the Chopstick Inn wasn't good - but I can say that that is not the norm. When I was a high school or college student, sitting with other students, paying with crumpled bills and sitting for a long time just talking, I still got great service. The chicken rice soup is amazing, but I also love the sesame chicken and the almond chicken. Their egg rolls are delicious - and thank god they don't put any broccoli in them! And the portions are huge. I always have at least 2 or 3 days' worth of leftovers any time that I go. The only way that they could be better would be if they delivered. read more

I have been coming here since I was a small child - and my parents both came here as teenagers. This place is a staple for me when I come back home to visit. Some of my favorite Chinese food ever. Love it and love the people that work here. Moo Goo Gai Pan, fried rice, chinese vegetable soup, and the egg rolls. I have been eating here on and off for about 20 years and I still love it. They have the BEST egg drop soup, and i say that after living in several states. The almond chicken is amazing and is unique in the way it is served with a fried shell on it (this is a MI thing for anyone who has ever tried to get almond chicken outside of the state). The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The staff is very friendly and i love that you can place online orders and future orders for pick ups. Had the hot and sour soup and wonton. Husband had Almond Chicken lunch and I the lo mein Lunch. Also an order of Crab Rangoon. The Rangoon was good. Hint of sweetness and green onion like I like. The soups where ok. I liked the Hot and sour more then wonton. The Amond chicken was good the sauce they used was tasty but a lot of breading on the chicken which he ended up peeling off. The Rice was a nice texture and flavor. LoMein was ok. Little salty. Was shrimp eggrolls so couldnt eat and made me sad. All and all wasn't bad would go back. read more

I would love to give Chopstick Inn 5 stars because I love their egg rolls, but when I specifically call to confirm their hours before I drive 30 minutes to get egg rolls, am told they are open until 9:30pm and when I pull up at 8:30pm to their lights being off and the doors being locked....pissed is about all I can say. Lost my business permanently. PS--this is the second time this week that I drove down for egg rolls to have their doors locked when I arrived which is why we specifically called today. read more

They make them freah to order and they are served sizzling with a generous portion of plum sauce/ hot mustard. The filling is bean sprouts with shrimp, not cheap cabbage fillers. Just paid over $50 for a dinner for 4 and was pretty disappointed to say the least. We found a long strand of black hair in the beef Lo Mein right of the bat, this really ruined our appetite. This type of stuff is not ok, we pretty much picked at the rest of the almond chicken and sweet and sour pork (easy to detect more lose hair). My family use to get food from this restaurant all the time in the past and never had complaints. I don't have a clue what happened to this place, maybe new owners or something. Due to this restaurants cleanliness issues my family and I will not be back. If we were eating inside the restaurant when we found hair in our food we would have just walked out, unfortunately we ordered carry out. This is probably my favorite American-style Chinese restaurant. It's been a long time since I've eaten in the dining room, so my review is mostly based on takeout, which is ready quickly, generally 15 minutes or less. As with most Chinese restaurants, the quantity is huge. You can easily get 3 generous servings out of less than $15 worth of food. Where this place shines over other similar Chinese restaurants is the quality. Almond chicken is made with an entire boneless chicken breast, not tiny little scraps that end up being more batter than chicken. The sauce has chunks of water chestnuts and sliced green onion. The egg rolls have shrimp and bean sprouts in them and they serve it with their own sauce rather than the typical packet of duck sauce. read more

Been twice, about a year and a half apart. Second time reminded me of why I hadn't been back. Portion sizes are good, but the food is bland. Anything that goes into the fryer comes out, and doesn't seem to get a chance to drain before they pack it up, so your crab rangoons, for example, soak in the fryer grease and it ruins them. read more

Living in the Downriver area of Michigan, I have seen many of our local long-time benchmark restaurants go the way of the West wind in the past few years. Places I either grew up with or enjoyed all the way through my first marriage--and into my second. There is nothing worse than the empty feeling one gets when driving past a building that was a thriving business until sometime last week. Enter Chopstick Inn. Same location for decades. Solid, and real. Unassuming curb appeal. The decor is dark leftover Mediterranean wood and wall fixtures from the '70's, clean and well-maintained. The usual Chinese lanterns and pictures grace the walls, but you won't have to pay much attention to those because once the food arrives, you will be lost in bliss. And, on to the food. Oh, the FOOD! I love to start off with soup, and at Chopstick Inn you can get your soup in several different serving sizes. A bit unusual, and I love that. The egg drop soup is not too salty, not too thick, not too thin. Perfect--and it comes out with fried wonton. The egg rolls are fresh and crispy like they were just pulled out of the deep fryer fifteen seconds earlier. They are large and flavorful, with plenty of bean sprouts in them for added crunch. Plum sauce comes to you in a small bowl and has a lovely zigzag of hot mustard adorning the rim, so dip away! The other side of the table had the pan-fried dumplings and they were amazing. Fresh, and filled with ground, seasoned pork. They looked handmade and tasted like heaven. They came out with a spicy dipping sauce. I had the fried shrimp appetizer tonight, large battered shrimp with a side of plum sauce. Crispy, freshly made and tasty. Now, when your entree comes out, try not to be shocked but the portion sizes are very large. This is not a complaint by me at all. I love a good tuck-in of comfort food, even if I know as I pick up my fork that I will be taking at least half of it home. The almond chicken is my favorite here. And tonight, the entree on the other side of the table was sweet and sour chicken with bite-sized bits of battered chicken in a sauce that was a nice blending of the two flavors with some fruit in it. He said it was very fresh, hot and tangy enough that he didn't want to stop eating it. We have never had lunch or take-out here. The restaurant is an intimate size, but there are several larger tables that can seat your large group. They have no specific kids menu, and there are vast choices available--some are familiar and some are not, but you should be able to find something here to eat, even if you are not overly fond of American Chinese food. They have dinner for two, three, four, five and six in the family style dinner section. There is a full bar with the usual 1950's-sounding drinks on the menu. The service at Chopstick Inn is quick and personable. You won't wait forever for someone to bring you a refill on your hot tea or your cold beverage. There are no televisions, or Wi-Fi. And mostly what you will be listening to while you dine is the sound of forks hitting plates. I love dining here because it is relaxing and quiet. And you won't go broke here, either. Wasn't a fan of their food. General Tso's chicken was not made correctly--fried chicken with a mysterious sauce poured over it that didn't even taste spicy. The beef and mushroom sauce was super salty and gelatin like, not appetizing. Egg drop soup is on the gelatin side but tasted good. I was recently visiting from out of town and went to the Chopstick Inn. I had been many years ago and found the place to be pleasant and the food to be good. Times have certainly changed. The soup was great and the egg roll was delicious, but the main dish 'spicy Thai noodle' was not Thai or spicy. In fact it was quite bland and the tofu I ordered was not edible. When I brought this to the servers attention she simply dismissed me and said "that is how it is supposed to taste." I kindly replied that "no something is wrong with your tofu". She would not budge and told me that the "chicken one tastes better". Ok but I'm a vegetarian. Needless to say she didn't even offer to take it off the bill or make a new dish. Although the egg roll and my general tao's chicken was pretty good, it was a little pricey, and the prices that came on the final bill were different from the prices that came on menu. The other two people who ate with me told me there meals were just ok, nothing spectacular. Service was a little below average and the knowledge of their menu was lacking. We also asked for a beef gravy for the vegetable lowmein and were told they didn't have anything like that except the table next too us who got beef lowmein ended up with a beef gravy.
