Ordered through door dash to try out a new option in my chinese food quest , got the gai kow chicken meal which was pretty decent and I'd probably get it again hopefully chicken will be a little more tender , I also tried the chicken chop suey which was prepared almost perfect the sprouts had a nice crunch not to soggy or oversaturated in sauce again chicken could be a little more tender and a little bland but nothing a little chinese hot oil can't fix, moo shu pork was a no go for me not very good in my honest opinion I probably would shy away from that , and finally the egg rolls one of my favorite parts of chinese cuisine they were just okay . I say that only because it tasted like they cooked them in old oil they had a stale burnt taste to them however the filling was good on them so I think if they'd changed the oil they would be spot on .....overall I would go back here to try again it was worth it and portion sizes were pretty good read more

I had a taste for Cantonese food, so I visited Mandarin Kitchen. I was skeptical in visiting because I saw several negative reviews. However, it is a solid 10/10 as far as I am concerned. I do not understand the negative reviews because my dinner was excellent! Fantastic wonton and hot & sour soups (meant to order a bowl of hot & sour, but I inadvertently ordered the "large bowl"), a great egg roll, and excellent chicken egg foo young (with fantastic brown gravy) and fried rice, along with a pot of hot tea. I've been visiting this restaurant for over 30 years and have never had a bad meal. Every dish is excellent. There usually isn't a wait and service is wonderful and swift. This place wasn't very crowded but we also went pretty early. They let us sit away from the door to avoid cold drafts when people entered. Service was great. The food was good and came pretty quickly and very hot. Right off the stove. The meal was presented as a several course meal. First we got wonton chips and our beverages. Then soup. They brought our massive egg rolls next, 1 for each of us. The main meal came out next and last, we got some cookies and some fortune cookies. They didn't have fountain drinks I guess because we ordered a Pepsi and got a can. The prices were a little higher than if expect but not by much. It cost about 10-14 per meal, but some of those include a soup and egg role. My schezuan chicken had less chicken that I expected and a lot of sauce. My wife's general tso' s plate had a heaping pile of chicken, so it varies a bit it seems. They definitely take Visa and MasterCard. read more

This was our go to during the pandemic and the food was wonderful. but, about two months ago, we got our usual, almond chicken and it was not very good. the chicken was very, very thin and dry. neither of us could eat it. so, we didn't go for a while and then decided to give them another try last week. unfortunately, it still wasn't good. All of the coating was completely off of the chicken and in a mess at the bottom of the box. we could live with that but, not with the fact that the chicken was once again very thin and dry. But, this time the gravy was so salty, neither one of us could eat it. I think that will be the last time we go there. We gave them two chances, two months apart and still weren't happy with the food which is sad because we really loved their food. I was disappointed. I ordered the dinner combo #24 the szechuan chicken dinner. I was expecting it to be spicy or least have some evidence of chilli peppers, it wasn't. I saw no evidence of peppers in it. If I had known that it wasn't going have very much spice I would have requested it extra spicy. The egg roll that came with the combo was the best part. Used to go to Mandarin Kitchen all of the time as a teen. Into my early 20's. Was so excited that this restaurant showed up on Door Dash. Placed an order last night and OMG they didn't disappoint!!! I ordered the Almond Chicken, Hong Kong Pan Fried Noodles (can't get it anywhere else that I know of), and a couple egg rolls. Everything was amazing. The chicken was tender, lettuce was crisp, and the gravy had crushed almonds. That's exactly what I am looking for with the Almond Chicken. I want to preface this review by saying the people are super nice and accommodating. My to go order came out quickly and with a smile. The portions were hearty, as well. Now, the rest of the review... where to begin... The General Tso's chicken was very strong tasting and had a weird, mushy coating. Not crispy at all. The chicken was a good quality and there was a lot if it at least, but I won't be finishing it. The fried rice was just ok, but not real flavorful. The egg roll... ugh. It was huge, but crammed with strangely sweet and cinnamon-y sprouts which were stringy and gross. They all came out after the second bite, leaving an egg roll husk. It might just be me, but I HATE egg rolls with nothing but sprouts. Cabbage is so much better and a FEW sprouts in the mix would be ok. Not my cup of tea. The hot and sour soup was neither spicy or sour, but it was certainly hot. Hot enough to burn the crap out of my lip and tongue even after blowing on it to cool it off. It also had little in the way of contents and an off, burnt kind of taste. The crab rangoon was pretty meh. Not much flavor to it, but more edible than most of the meal. So, yeah... not planning to come here again. They might be up your alley, but not mine. Pretty disappointed to have to throw out so much food. read more

I order from Mandarin Kitchen every time I want Chinese food Downriver. I've gone through a few other places in the area, and I've found that MK is the most consistent, friendly, and well-priced option out of all of them. I always get takeout here, because I don't have time to sit down for lunch. I assume most of their business is takeout, but I hope others know how good their food is. Not only do they serve some of the best Hot and Sour soup I've ever had, but their combos include absolutely fantastic chicken fried rice, just as good as the entrees. I often get the general tsos, kung pao, and their chicken wings (I didn't expect much of them when I ordered them, I was blown away!) If you're like me and are into leftover Chinese, this hits the spot too. Mix up that sauce and that rice and you've got something fantastic on your hands. I am a fan!! Starting with their website; it is easy to navigate and they take online orders. Online ordering is a plus when you work in a busy office and get tied up on the phone quite frequently. The staff is friendly and very appreciative of your business. The appreciation shows in the care they take with getting your order correct. My orders have been 100% correct which is shocking when dealing with Chinese establishments locally. When ordering, we order $75-$100 worth of food as we order for an entire office, 3 times a week. Having local places get our orders accurate has been an issue; particularly with Chinese take-out. So kudos to them for that alone. I admit, I order pretty standard Chinese fare. I quit eating meat at Chinese restaurants due to many poor experiences (rubbery chicken, fatty, etc.). Obviously, this is a generalization but my choice was made a few weeks back. Veggies only! No matter where I place my Chinese food order. That said, I tend to order veggie fried rice on the regular. It is delicious here! Their rice has a good flavor and there are actually veggies within. Whoa! I didn't have to douse it in soy sauce. YAY!! My favorite here...the egg rolls. In fact, this place has by far the best egg rolls downriver; that I have tried thus far. I would go here for their egg rolls alone. So yeah, my order is a safe bet and nothing too fancy. In turn, my review doesn't provide the greatest detail. However, I feel their food is quality, veggies are fresh and plentiful, orders large, and egg rolls are out of this world (I had 2 last time!!!). The inside is quiet which is a little awkward. No music or anything. They are typically quite dead inside which is a bit shocking to me. But hey, some people like quiet. I personally do not. Anyhoo....this is another Jenee recommendation. One of my favorite things about Yelp-ing is discovering a business that doesn't exist yet in Yelp and adding it! I did not "discover" this business, I have been going here since I was a kid but it has been about 6 years since I've been here and I do not live in the area. I have been harping on my husband about how different (and better) Chinese restaurants on the West side are than on the East side. I was hoping to put my money where my mouth is and MANDARIN KITCHEN YOU DELIVERED THE GOODS!!! Thank you! I took as many pictures as I could although we did not order the most photogenic food everything was delicious and hubby agreed (whew!) THIS is how Almond boneless chicken should taste! THIS is how fried rice should be prepared (with tasty chunks of chicken and egg and green onions.) Crispy delicious egg rolls, served with plum sauce and hot mustard without asking for it. Great selection of combinations and daily specials. And wonderful friendly (family) staff. They even gave us one of those groovy bamboo calendars that I so covet. If you are in the area PLEASE give them your business! They deserve it and you will not regret it, best Chinese I've had in ages! We were searching for a close-by Chinese takeout place one day because we were starving, we had also moved, and we didn't really feel like making the drive to our all-time favorite Chinese haunt. We landed at Mandarin Kitchen. Its located in a strip mall on Dix-Toledo just south of Eureka. We are totally impressed with this place. Yes, the decor is outdated and kitschy....but its clean. Yes, the menu is typically American Chinese restaurant food...but it is really tasty and the portions large. Yes, you call in your order or just walk in (like I usually do) but the service is speedy and friendly. I typically order the Pepper Steak and add tomatoes to it...its loaded with meat and the sauce is oh-so-good....The Mr. will get his normal Shrimp Fried Rice, which is always stuffed with an overload of shrimp you can actually SEE, not those tiny little floaters you need a magnifying glass to find. On the odd occasion when he orders the fried rice with everything (subgum?) there are large chunks of all the varieties of meat/seafood packed into the rice. We've aso tried the Almond Chicken, Sesame Shrimp and Sesame Chicken, both Eggdrop and Wonton soups, and they are all really good. The most impressive thing to me about the place is, the hostess lady (I do not know her name) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS remembers what I like! I walk in, she is super friendly, asks about my day, confirms what I want before I even tell her...and get this, when I forget to ask for my added tomatoes, she reminds me. No, not an upsale....a genuine reminder. In fact, she seems to know everybody's order..I've seen it again and again.....its just amazing...this is just awesome customer service in my book. AND when the New Year comes, she always saves me one of those cool bamboo roll up calendars that I love, and I hang it proudly in my cubicle at work! The prices here are fairly cheap too.
