It came with so much food, it's honestly big enough for 3 or more depending on how you eat. The food was sooooo good. Idk what they do to the chicken, but it has a different taste. It's so heavenly. Their chicken fried rice has actually nice pieces of chicken! Oh I love this place. Egg drop soup is some of the best I have ever had. I am so glad I discovered this place today looking to try some different take out. I live about 25 minutes from here and will continue to drive here for food. Tried this place since our local restaurant closed. This is take out only. I came in person to diet dinner and it was ready in only 15 minutes. Very fast. We had the Happy Family Reunion and the Mongolian beef dinner combo. The Happy family was pretty big. The Mongolian beef dinner combo didn't have as much meat as we were expecting (lots of onion) but the food was good. I want to try the Moo shu chicken or pork soon. read more

I used to love this place. Last night I called to order our usual as I have been ordering Chinese food from this place for YEARS.....asked for pork egg fu young (sorry can't spell this) and they said they weren't making it it was too busy. Also could not order a pint of pork fried rice only a quart if I wanted it. When we got the food there was NO eggs in the fried rice. We ended up ordering orange chicken which the breaded chicken was mostly bread. What has happened to this place. I'm going to look for a different place. Just SAD. I'm done here. read more

China Crown is a pretty decent choice for Chinese takeout in the Novi Area. The menu has no frills, but it'll provide everything you expect from any basic Chinese eatery. As a bonus, they make the ordering/ pick up process very straightforward and easy, which is always appreciated mid-pandemic. When you pick up, you'll need to wear a mask, the staff is wearing masks, and they'll pass you your food from behind a plexiglass divider. Additionally, the staff is very nice and quite friendly! The food is really what drives the 3 star review -- it's not bad, but it's not great... it's truly A-OK. The Lo Mein is slightly above average, but the Fried Rice is definitely below average (100% sure I wouldn't order it again). Overall, I don't think you'll have a bad experience from China Crown... but in an area with tons of options for takeout, there's nothing that sticks out abut China Crown that makes it a strong contender. read more

First, Prices have gone up so menu on their weebly site, is old. Had a craving for good old carryout American Chinese. Did the Family Combo for 2 which is now like $22.99. Got General Tso... Very good. Chicken Fried rice really good also. Added some Egg drop soup, yummy. The egg rolls were a bit dry and just okay. Oh, China Crown, how I loved thee. When I first moved to the area, many moons ago, this was my go-to chinese place. My sister, my daughter, and I were on familiar terms with the owner and her daughter. We ordered take out or sometimes ate in and laughed and chatted with them. The kids sometimes played. The food was never fancy, but it was pretty fresh, solid in taste, and good portions. They were also fast. This place did, and during this visit seemed to still do, steady take out business. It has been a few years since I've been because I moved further south. While the inside looks the same and the service time seems similar, either I've changed or the food has. I ordered several dishes carry out. I watched several folks come in and leave takeout, so I expected some good, greasy, Detroit-style Chinese food. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. All of the dishes were quite salty, and the textures were off. The shrimp in the lo mein was chewy, for example. If I were headed home on this path, I might try it one more time -- so, so many good memories of this place -- but it might be time to keep those memories and enjoy better food from another place. read more

Decided to try this place instead of going to our usual place out here. This place is closer but I would much rather take the drive next time in order to be fully satisfied. I ordered pepper steak, it was ok, the beef was not as tender but edible. The rice was ok, the chicken in the rice was a little dry but the rice had good flavor. I don't know what everyone's talking about. This is the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The egg roll was tough and tasteless and came with a vinegar flavored sauce, which did not go well with the egg roll. The spicy orange chicken had no spice at all, and was flavored with a dark red sauce out of a can and had a metallic taste. The egg drop soup, on the other hand, was really good. Lung pao chicken was good, not spicy though. Sweet and sour chicken was good. Orange chicken was ok. Hot and sour soup was acidic tasting. Definitely not balanced and almost like an ingredient had been left out. I ate the vegetables and tossed the soup. I love hot and sour soup too. read more

They aren't expecting you to eat in, so don't. My coworker Steve and I put China Crown through our two round testing methods and I would recommend that you grab carryout from here. The tiny two tables in the seating area are not inviting and the décor or lack there of makes this the greasy spoon of Chinese food. The hot and sour soup was good, it was the blackish thick and peppery variety with a good amount of flavor to it. It had a sweet note to it that was different, I believe do to the addition of American celery. This soup has ample crisp carrots and bamboo, tofu, and water chestnuts, it is well worth trying. On my second visit I tested the wonton soup, it was passable but not worth more then a mention The fried rice with my General Taos's chicken (first visit to the restaurant) was good, scoring high marks in all three main fried rice attributes, which are oiliness, chunkiness, and flavor. If any thing bad can be said about the fried rice is it's a bit on the dry side, though if you're the type to mix your fried rice into your entrée sauce then its spot on. The portion of chicken was just about right; it had a nice breading (the thin crispy kind of batter) with an appropriate Taos's sauce (red, slightly sweet, and having some heat) I had the deluxe rice (wide) noodles on my second visit, they where very nice, packed full of chicken, shrimp, pork, and vegetables. The portion on this entrée was large and it was packed with flavor. The noodles were done just right, slightly crisp with not a distinct sauce just sort of pan fried all together. The egg rolls had a medium dry outside with a good crunch, lots of bean sprouts and good meat mix. For the most part they are passable. Prices are reasonable 4.80 to 5.45 lunch combo (entrée plus fried rice) soup and egg roll are + 80 cents extra each. So if your looking for a decent carryout meal at a fair price, give them a try their menu is vast and you may just find something you love. read more

The Novi area is severely lacking in good quality Chinese restaurants but I must say that this place is one that I will return to. Ordered the sesame chicken and beef fried rice, the rice was good enough , (nothing to brag about) the sesame chicken on the other hand was a joke. Just finished lunch here, we started looking for a new Chinese restaurant since China Cafe decided to raise their prices by 40%. China Crown is a small shop, just a couple tables designed more for take out, which is fine. I have Kung Pao chicken, and it was very tasty indeed. The chicken was cooked just right, the chicken fried rice was great, and the egg roll had nice character too. Not a boring egg roll, lots of different ingredients in there. Before I went to China Crown I researched it on yelp and saw all of the good reviews. Upon my arrival I wasn't really impressed as the front door was wide open but cashier is sitting at table playing on her phone with a coat on. There was a clear view of the kitchen and it did not look to be the cleanest. I started to say oops I forgot my money but I said it may be good try it. I ordered almond boneless chicken. Okay it's a hidden gem. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken with some egg drop soup and some spring rolls. The egg drop soup was decent, the main entrée was very flavorful plus the portion was enough for 2. Now the spring rolls were awesome. The people are great and hard working but..... the food was below average and that is being very generous. Ordered spring rolls, chicken fried rice, and garlic chicken. I am the type that typically eat any type of food, but this was once that I could get through. I believe the oil and the chicken the used were heated (reused) several time, hence the very odd tastes. We ordered what I thought was the Hunan Chicken and Mongolian Beef and chicken fried rice. I do not know what to call the dishes we received.....was something else, the food seemed to defy logic, it did not resemble any Chinese food I had ever seen. The two dishes appeared to be the exact same thing, one with chicken and one with beef, they had the same vegetables and same sauces. The vegetables were cut in a way that seemed they were ran through a paper shredder. I do not know if they had an off day and they were trying to make bad food, but it was inedible.
