We placed our order $54.00 order for egg rolls on Super Bowl Sunday through Doordash. There was no organization of the line, just a huge crowd of people trying to get to the register all at once. I asked an employee there if there was a seperate line for pick-up orders. I was told "it was all one line." After waiting in that line for 40 minutes, we get to the cashier only to be told "you have to pick-up in the other line." Since that "line" had even less organization, just a hoard of people shoving their cell phones against the window, we left the restaurant and returned an hour later. We explained that we had already paid but didn't get our order due to the previous chaos and disorganization. The employee there could not have been ruder or more dismissive, SUGGESTING THAT WE SHOULD PAY AGAIN after we had already showed her proof of payment. Yeah, no thanks. This place has it all (and it's all cheap): dim sum, banh mi, noodle soups, egg rolls, Chinese food (chow mein, fried rice, etc.), Vietnamese desserts, pate chaud, smoothies - and self-serve fro-yo (though the machines were out of order at the time, it's going to be 30 cents an ounce, 6 flavors). They even have Chinese BBQ with roast meat hanging. You can get a meal for around $5. It's like Lee's Sandwiches crossed with Tung Kee/TK Noodle. * Spring rolls: these were big and generously stuffed with lettuce, thin pieces of grilled pork, thin rice vermicelli, mint leaves and bean sprouts. These were decent but the wrap (rice paper) was too chewy. * Banh mi ($2.50): The roll was the cheap kind (tasteless, tough) but the sandwich was larger than average (and cheaper than average). If you're from San Jo, and you've never heard of King Eggroll, then you need to crawl out from whatever rock you've been living under. =) Seriously. Eggrolls are the bomb diggity here. I've never been to a party without someone bringing these babies. It has a distinct taste and you will recognize it from anywhere. I went to a party once in SF and someone had ordered a tray of King eggrolls. If that's not loyalty, then I don't know what is. The take-out selection is good but greasy, with combo meals or you can also order a la carte, by the pint or quart. The only thing I have to complain about the meal menu is that if I want to substitute a certain item, they always give me a hard time about it. They have about 8 or so different banh mi sandwiches to choose from. Steamed pork buns, fried chicken drummettes, fried banana triangles, sesame balls, fried shrimp balls (*drools*), fried xiu mai, fried wontons, teriyaki chicken on skewers, just to name a few are all also available to purchase. Dim sum is cheap and good when they're hot and freshly made, $1.75 an order. The dim sum is ALWAYS better tasting here (IMHO) than the location on Lundy Ave for some reason. Anyway, to make a long story short, King Eggroll is a go-to place for parties, no matter how large they are, or just a good place to get decent affordable Chinese food in a jiffy. A bit greasy but hey-- Chinese food wouldn't be Chinese food if it didn't have a bit of grease in it. I grew up near the original King Egg Roll on Berryessa. This place pales in comparison. I don't know if its the same owner or franchised but the egg rolls here tasted significantly different from the location in North San Jose. I usually don't go here because of horrible parking but if I need large amounts of food for a family party I come here. It leaves your lips slightly burning from the chili but it tastes good. The Egg rolls aren't half bad for it is the stores special. The Egg rolls cost .75 cents for one but if you need a lot for a social gathering there are other special party tray rates that can be bought. You come here for the eggrolls and food and not the service. That being said, let's talk about the food. Eggrolls are still as good as I remember them. Quality has stayed consistent throughout the years at all their locations. I just wish that the prices also stayed constant. But, it's still cheaper and better than any other place in the area. Steam table is hit and miss, depending on the time that you come in. Rule of thumb, come during lunch time when food turnover is pretty quick and food is fresher. I do not advise you to come an hour before closing. They're out of the most popular dishes and you can never tell how long stuff has been sitting there. However, in general, food quality is pretty good, especially considering the price. Their dim sum is also pretty decent. Come early because they usually run out quickly, especially on the weekends. I came at 9 am once and they already had dim sum available. I really love their sui mai, even if the portions have gotten smaller. For pot lucks, I get the fried sui mai. I have never brought that to a gathering where it wasn't immediately gobbled up. People LOVE that stuff. If you have patience, I also recommend their catering. However, it is advisable to come in person rather than trying to make arrangements over the phone. I have called and could not understand the person on the other line. Plus, if you come in person, you can pay for your order and not have to worry about it on the day of the event. Also, if you're picking up, make sure to give yourself plenty of time, especially during weekends and holidays. It will be chaotic and crazy, just resign yourself to that fact and prepare. They were completely unprepared for the orders that were placed IN ADVANCE, did not communicate AT ALL to the people on their massive line and were completely unapologetic for their failure to serve their customers (again who had ordered IN ADVANCE). When I asked for a refund, I was told to call their online ordering app (Chow Now) the next day. Upon calling Chow Now, they haven't been able to reach the restaurant for them to confirm/approve the refund and I was asked to wait 24 hours for them to get back to me. Horrible experience. This place seemed to be so much more until I visited. This seemed to be a VietNamese rendition of a Chinese restaurant, with a very limited menu of perhaps, eight entrees. With "Eggroll" in the name, I didn't think that eggrolls would be optional. I figured that meals would be centered around them. They had a tofu dish with eggplant and another vegetarian dish, which had been finished. I was there not long after 7 p.m. The person behind the counter suggested that they could cook something just then. Instead, I tried two beef dishes (beef with broccoli, string beans with beef) and fried rice in a $7.00 combo. I've had bad luck with beef at many Asian restaurants and figured that I could just eat the vegetables. It didn't take long for them to call me to the counter to pick up my food. With my iced tea and tax, my meal came to $8.70, which wasn't bad for the amount of food. Unfortunately, the best thing about the meal was the iced tea. The fried rice was not good at all. The two beef dishes were okay but not all that tasty. If I was more willing, I could have eaten more but it was more like filler than food. I would probably come here more often if parking wasn't such a hassle during the evening commute. Traffic on Story can also be nightmarish. However, that doesn't detract from the fact that this is a pretty good place to pick up some quick Chinese food. I feel that over the years the offerings here have become a little Americanized, but they do a very good job. There are still some dishes that will appeal to purists. Many places like this suffer from using too much soy sauce or salt, or the foods tend to have a greasy feel, but for the most part I think that they things (relatively) clean and unencumbered. Eggrolls here are really good, probably because they have such rapid turnover that you're guaranteed to get them hot from the fryer. I find the cost of food to be quite reasonable compared to many other places, but you're still going to pay more than you would on Stockton Street in Chinatown. In addition to the regular dishes and dim sum items, you can also buy BBQ pork and duck. The BBQ pork is actually really good - thick, tender, and moist. This place has long been my go to place for soup. Wonton Noodle soup which is very good and filling. Recently there has been an odd odor to the shrimp (they usually put one large shrimp in the soup) so I have asked them to not include the shrimp. Their Dim Sum is also well prepared and reasonably price. The people working here are very friendly. I have asked about their sandwiches but from what I could understand from the young lady working there they no longer make them even though they are posted as menu item. There is a parking lot associated with the building but the road is very narrow so one must be careful navigating down the parking lot. read more

So I asked my friend who works close to this one to pick up a couple of egg rolls and some Chinese. These days I've carried the tradition by coming to pick them up when it comes time for potlucks or friend's get togethers. Tip: Get there when it opens.
