I came by for the signature Egg Rolls and Shrimp Balls and left satisfied. It's not gourmet food but it's plenty fast and friendly with tasty appetizers as advertised. Stand in line, check out the food in buffet trays behind glass, order from the friendly staff, pay and go. There's also lunchroom style tables but we took ours home - well except for that shrimp ball that didn't survive the walk to my car! I can't give it five stars and three is too low. No question. No doubt. I loved their fried sui mai which are stuffed with shrimp, pork, and other goodies. Want some fried shrimp? Get those crispy shrimp balls, although, that texture is more of a shrimp paste than the chunks of shrimp in the fried sui mai. They accept cards! I noticed an "x" on their Yelp page, so I placed a pickup order via DoorDash instead. I was in a rush, didn't think to go on the website. Parking wasn't bad at 10:45, but it was congested on Story Rd. Once we walked in, I saw the kiosk and learned they accept cards. King Eggroll used to be the best establishment in San Jose before it went mainstream. I stopped at the story location today for a quick lunch. Pork vermicelli noodles and bbq steamed bao buns. Only to be rudely told they b no longer offer those items when they are clearly advertised. I was fussed in the customer service from the going man that helped me in addition to the quality of the shrimp and pork sitting told I ultimately went with. After biting into them I noticed a weird taste and it was the mint leaf rotted. I opened up the spring roll and the other two only to find black mint rotting leaves I was utterly disgusted. To add insult to injury the peanut sauce was watery and thin. The name King Eggroll used to mean fresh ingredients instead it's now low first crappy fast Chinese food. The restaurant itself is big but the tables were all dirty and this was at 2:30 in the afternoon. I'm surprised they manage to stay open. I did have two egg rolls those were still good but for what they charge there are better restaurants. They have combination meals - rice noodles and various protein and veggie dishes. A two item combo is $14.95 and very generous in portion. The protein dishes included things like orange chicken, chicken wings, green bean chicken, lemongrass chicken. A bit more of a vietnamese twist in some of the items. There are also shrimp springrolls (not fried), 3 for $8. I would say the hot food and the spring rolls were my favorite. The eggrolls are $2 a piece and pretty big. I would say, this is like a Vietnamese Eggroll that had a baby with a Panda Express or Chinese Fast Food Egg Roll. It's big, but it's got filler in it like veggies in the meat eggrolls. Best spot in south bay for eggrolls...growing up, we would go to Lundy location. I've probably only been to the Story location only a few times. This was the first time in years, and the street is super busy and traffic is super hectic. Came by for some quick bites, ordering: -3 eggrolls -3 fried chicken -2 shrimp balls Staff gave another chicken...probably because one was on the smaller side. Food was good, but could only eat so much since food is heavy on the fried side. I recommend them having a station for napkins and utensils, since it was only available at the front. No water either. Ordered some party trays here for a get together. This place used to be THE spot to hit up for all things egg rolls and party trays, but I think they have taken a turn over the years. This last round of tray orders were too greasy for me. And, the oil from the eggrolls didn't taste fresh or new but I should already know that the oil is not changed out per order. Honestly, if Yelp can only do half-stars then this place would be 3 1/2 stars. It is very much a hit-or-miss at this place. I love it here and the egg rolls and chicken. They are a must-get dish. The salted pepper ribs are a must-get dish as well. It is super flavorful and you would want more. However, sometimes the seasoning could be overpowering at times. The service is great. They are very nice people. However, when it is almost closing then they are a bit rude or rush you. But coming in late has some perks. You can get more food since they don't like to waste food. It really depends on what time you go here Parking is horrible. Sometimes hard to get into the parking because people can't drive and take up the whole space and vice versa. It scratches the itch when i want some Chinese food. Their broccoli beef is pretty solid too! They have a combination plate where you can pick three items almost like Panda Express.
