We come to Phở Tàu Bay a few times a year--it's close by, a family-run spot, and they have late hours (10 p.m. on weekdays). I like supporting local businesses, and they offer variety--phở, cơm tấm, and more. Food (4 stars) + I had the large phở đặc biệt ($17) and added a rib bone (+$3). The broth had that deep color I love, and it was packed with meat. Honestly, I couldn't finish--it was a generous portion! + My wife had a medium phở (around $15), steak and brisket. Honestly, the medium and large aren't that different, but she enjoyed it, finishing the meat. + My youngest had the kid's phở (about $9) with steak. It's generous for a kid's portion, and the steak was tender. ~ My older daughter had shaking beef (around $18). The plate was very colorful because it had a ton of veggies on the side. It even had an avocado as one of the side veggies. I love that. The beef was a bit dry, but the dipping sauce helped. Service/Ambiance (3.5 stars) + They're open a little later than many pho places, which is a plus for a late phở craving. ~ Family-run vibe, but a drink mix-up and a side-eye instead of an apology was a miss. ~ Chairs were going up near closing--didn't feel rushed, but you notice it. We'll be back--sometimes you just need that local phở fix, even if there's room for improvement!
On my day off, I drove out to get pho from this place, as I hadn't had it in a while. When I got home and started eating, I noticed an unusual texture in my mouth. I immediately spit it out, initially thinking it was a strange piece of meat. However, upon closer inspection, I realized it was a piece of ordering paper. The two photos attached are just a couple of examples. Unfortunately, there were several more pieces that I had already thrown into the trash bag. This was extremely disappointing and concerning, especially when it comes to food safety and quality control. After this experience, I will not be returning to this establishment.

Cha Gio - 3 Rolls ($16) 13. Tai Chin Nam ($18) 23. Mien Ga Long ($19.25) 44A. Pho Ap Chao Don ($18.75) - Combination *Soup Suon - 2 Large beef back rib soup ($9) I typically pick the spots we eat when home. This time, the hubby picked pho for lunch. Specifically Pho Tau Bay. I believe he picked this place since he wanted the pan seared noodles. I got the chicken glass noodle soup since I wanted clear noodles. (I'm not a huge fan of rice noodles.) Since I also wanted some beef, I got the ribs on the side. The ribs were a decent portion. A little tough, but I don't mind a lil chew with my meat. I did have to use scissors to cut it into smaller pieces. The chicken was pretty good. Silky and slippery. I actually made an onion scallion dip to eat that with instead. The pan fried noodles were sooo oily. And the sauce didn't really cut into it. Same with the fried spring rolls. Idk if the oil temp was too low, but the rolls ended up soaking in more oil than I prefer. Otherwise, I enjoyed the veggies and sauce that came with it. Added some sambal to the nuoc cham to give it a little heat. Fine since I wanted clear noodles, but their fried items are too oily. REVIEW #3968
Pho Tau Bay is a decent local pho spot with a wide menu that goes beyond just soups. They offer plenty of other Vietnamese dishes, but this visit we stayed focused on noodle soups. We had the wonton noodle soup with egg noodles and a beef pho with rice noodles, and both were satisfying bowls with flavorful broth and good portions. It's one of the larger restaurants in this mostly Vietnamese strip mall, so there's plenty of seating even when it gets busy. The parking lot is big but tends to fill up quickly. One important pro tip I learned this trip: BRING CASH. It's the only thing they accept. Drops the stars one notch for me cuz there's no in-your-face signage and I didn't know till i went to pay. I had to leave and come back to pay.
Big warning -- cash only! No credit cards, so come prepared. I stopped by Pho Tau Bay after getting back into town from a SoCal trip. I ordered the #1 Special Combo, and the kids shared the #7. Pho Tau Bay is not the best pho in town, but it definitely gets the job done when you are in a pinch. Portions are big and they are generous with the meat. The broth is smooth and flavorful, making it a solid, comforting bowl overall. Service was friendly and fast, which is always a plus. There is usually Vietnamese music playing on the TV, giving it that classic local pho spot vibe. We also grabbed some desserts to go -- Vietnamese yogurt and lychee jello -- and my kids loved them. Pho Tau Bay is a staple in our food rotation and a dependable go-to when we need a quick pho fix.
We came to visit family from Seattle and heard all great things about Pho Tau Bay but once we sat down my toddler screamed and we noticed cockroaches running on the floor. We were in shock. We informed the server and he said "we can just chose to sit at a different table" I really wanted to love this place after so many people recommended it in East Side San Jose but we unfortunately will not be coming back here. This is extremely disturbing and sooo many health risks here. I can only imagine what their kitchen looks like :(
I'm a sucka for this spot. I've been coming here for over 14+ yrs and as I'm in town and craving Vietnamese food, this is where I would go. We've moved away for over 4yrs and it's all the same. Parking sucks even more in this plaza but have patience and you'll find one as ppl come and go here quite often. Upon entry on Sunday at 1pm, we were seated right away. Orders were taken within a few minutes. As we knew what we wanted to eat, that was perfect timing. Food came out pretty quick. Remember to add the pickled onion with your pho, you will love your bowl even more. I was craving BBH, spicy and all. Both the pho and BBH did not disappoint as I remembered. Great broth, bowls are big! You are in San Jose so it'll be $17 per bowl easy. $40 was our total with tip. Worth it. And totally enjoyed our lunch. Super full too.
I'd give this place extra points for the nostalgia of it. Throughout my SJSU years, this was my go-to spot for pho, BBH, and bun thit nuong. Don't forget... CASH ONLY!!! My Pho Tai Sach was decent. Broth was on the salty side, but overall light and not too oily. They did not skimp on noodles and gave SO MUCH TRIPE. Crazy portions. The Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio is the really good here. Some of the best. Something about their pork chop... perfectly smoky! CHEF'S KISS.
I give it 5 stars the service was great we were so hungry we just got off work after fasting omg the food came so fast even though the lady forgot our smoothies the man that served us our food made up for it the food was great I know they were looking at us like dam yall eat a lot lol we had oxtail pho and a pork vermacilli plate with two orders of spring roll thank you guys the ambiance was chill as well
Nice home-y pho spot located in silver creek/ Capitol plaza. Parents took me here to welcome me back from my long intentional trip. Luckily this spot was open still until midnight. We arrived 10pm and there were a few tables occupied with customers. We quickly ordered 3 pho and our order came out within 15 minutes. The large portion for pho is crazy big!! My eyes were bigger than my stomach. I actually ended up finishing my bowl but definitely left full and satisfied. Definitely have to order the dac biet. Although, I would have loved some Bo vien (meatballs) in my bowl. Good amount of tripe, tendon, rare meat, and brisket. I really liked their fresh flat noodles. The noodles were still long and had a nice chew to them. Don't forget to order the avocado smoothie! Absolutely loved it. On the sweeter side but that's how I like it! Overall, decent pho spot. Staff are so sweet and very welcoming!
I used to love their location on Hostetter Rd. I am not sure if there locations are owned by one person/family or if it's a separate entity. Cherylynn is good about those intricate and intimate details of a business but all I know is if it's good then I will return and if it's some place I have never been to then I would want to try it just so I can write a review on it. Gavin was sick 2 weeks ago. Initially I was going to send him to school on Monday but when he told me he wasn't feeling well, I listened and had him rest at home before taking him to see his pediatrician. He ended up having the flu and bronchitis. He was home the entire week. I have work, I have school, and I was fostering mom and her 5 kittens so taking time off to cook something healing wasn't in the cards for me. While I try my best not to DoorDash on a weekly basis, I was saved because I didn't have the time to cook nor the time to pickup the order. I ordered 2 of their pho dac biet. This place is not extraordinary but it the broth was good, generous amounts of beef, and the nostalgic memories of my childhood came to me as I was enojying my bowl. I just turned 43 last Monday, boy wouldn't I give anything to go back in time to when I was a kid again.
It's fresh Crowded with great melting and tasting Pho And the service is fast and efficient I'd go back plenty of times! Enjoy this spot for Pho a lot!
Met my friends here for lunch this past weekend, a party of ten including 4 kids. The place had a clean and casual interior with adequate seating on a holiday afternoon. Service was friendly and sufficient, and the wait for our dishes was reasonable, about 10-15 minutes at most. Portions were large. My bf got his regular, pho dac biet (#1), and the taste was as expected, consistent quality. I got a rice plate, the grilled pork over rice with soup & salad, and a sunny side up egg (C8). The egg was cooked perfectly, and the pork was flavorful and nicely seared at the edges. The only cons here are that they don't accept credit cards (only cash, venmo, or zelle) and parking's a nightmare in the Paloma Plaza.
This shopping center, off of Silver Creek rd, has alot of great eats and plenty of parking. We decided to eat at Pho Tau Bay today. We were greeted and seated right as we walked in. The waitress immediately brought out hot tea for our table. We ordered Goi Cuon (shrimp/pork springrolls) appetizer. The springrolls is very tasty with fresh refreshing ingredients. They use a different type of wrapper which was softer and seems fresh unlike the rice paper dipped in water. Not sure what they used but it was great. I got a bowl of the Wonton Mi Xa Xiu (egg noodles w wonton and bbq pork) with bo vien (beef meatballs +$1 extra) and suon bo (beef rib +$3 extra) as add-ons. The egg noodles has a nice bouncy texture and the meats was all tender. The beef ribs had a good amount of meat on it and for an extra $3 was well worth it. My mom got a bowl of Mien Ga Tuoi (fresh chicken clear noodle soup). The chicken is white meat and was fresh and not dried out at all. Broth was flavorful too. We got 1 appetizer, and 2 bowls of noodle soup there, and 1 more bowl of Pho Dac Biet togo, all for around $66. Definitely not a bad deal. I had a good experience and rate it 10/10! Came at lunch with 10 friends from work. It was a happy reunion. Us ladies recommended what to order for our caucasian friend. Our other caucasian friend asked to use chopsticks, I was surprised by his profesisy. I ordered the crispy noodles with beef and veggies. I thought it was just meh. I had such a wonderful experience at Pho Tau Bay on Silver Creek! First of all, their menu is HUGE! There are so many choices beyond just pho, which I love because there are so many things I still want to come back and try. This time I ordered the chicken cháo (Vietnamese chicken porridge), cơm bò lúc lắc, and pho with bone marrow and tendon. Everything hit the spot! But what really made me want to write this review was the sweet Vietnamese lady working at the front. I came in on a Wednesday evening 09.16.26 and she was SO incredibly nice, warm, patient, and helpful. I was looking at all the different chè options and asked her which one she thought would be good for my baby. She immediately gave me suggestions and explained the choices to me so sweetly. No annoyed expression, no making me feel like I was asking too many questions, and no making me feel judged or like I was bothering her. She was genuinely happy to help, which I really appreciated! She also helped me with my own order, gave recommendations, and repeated everything back to me so nicely to make sure she had it right. It was just really refreshing customer service. Sorry, I'm a little biased because Pho Papa has normally been my go-to , but because of HER, I will absolutely be coming back to Pho Tau Bay to try more things on this huge menu! Management -- whoever you have working the front on Wednesday evenings, PLEASE appreciate her and recognize her! She deserves a raise or some kind of recognition. My friend and I came across a post on instagram that reviewed this restaurant and immediately decided this was the place to satisfy our craving for Vietnamese food. We were not disappointed. Upon arrival we were immediately welcomed in. The restaurant appeared to be very clean and had a modern look to it. We ordered the fried egg rolls, each large portion of the wonton soup that also came with a choice of noodles to add to the wonton soup, and we shared their grilled lemongrass chicken over rice. Let me just say EVERYTHING came out super hot and relatively quick. The egg rolls were super crispy and fresh. Paired with a tasty dipping sauce the egg rolls were the perfect start to our meal. The wonton soup was so good, my friend and I needed to take a moment of silence to honor how good the soup was. The broth was extremely flavorful and lacked nothing. We added some of their chili oil for a touch of heat and it was perfect. The chili oil was super flavorful too, while spicy it had a delicious garlic flavor to it. The wontons were filled with shrimp and were cooked perfectly. The wanton soup we ordered was topped with bbq pork and I felt it complemented the soup well. We lastly ordered one of their rice plates to share, it was lemongrass marinated chicken thighs that were grilled and served over rice. The chicken was nicely seasoned and rice was fresh. Overall, I truly enjoyed my experience at Pho Tau Bay and look forward to returning in the future. read more

I really like going to Pho Tau Bay! Their food is so delicious and it's really obvious that the chefs know what they're doing. The servers are also really nice to my family and I. The ambiance is not the best, kind of dirty and unkempt, but it's definitely worth it for their delicious food.. I recommend coming here sometime! read more
This restaurant is located in the busy strip mall that has a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and milk tea shops. I've been to this place many times over the years. I liked the family that ran the Pho Tau Bay off of Lundy/Hostetter. They closed to remodel bit never reopened and now it's Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. Service: They are very slow, even for an Asian restaurant. To get their attention to be seated and actually to get your food. Just my experience here. Though, I do appreciate they open late. Ambiance: Simple decorations and tables and a bit sticky. ATTENTION: Cash only. I've only ordered the Pho and Rice plate with Grilled Korean Shortrib or the Shaking Beef (Bo Luc Lac). Both were good. Pho Dac Biet Tau Bay: Special combo with rare slices of steak, well-done brisket, flank, tendon, tripe. Good decent bowl of Pho. Broth was ok. Plusses: I asked for some extra culantro and look how much they brought!!! I loved that. read more
My family couldn't decide what to eat for dinner tonight and decided to go here because they have a little bit of everything. Because they offer so many variety, dont expect the quality to be amazing because no entree is a specialty. This location resides a plaza where parking is PACKED on the weekends, and so we opted to order for to-go. All items ordered were packed well and displayed pleasingly. Noodles were precooked, and so you would just have to pour the broth in. There is more broth than what the container with the noodles and meats could hold. If you want to really enjoy the good, you will have to pour all the contents in a true "pho bowl." Otherwise, you'll need to pour more broth into the bowl as you eat. Food is good for the price. Broth comes a bit more oily than I would like. My husband enjoys the BBH from this location because of the generous amount of greens that's usually packed for takeout. read more

Pho Tau Bay will always be my go to pho resto whenever I am visiting San Jose. The portions are huge and generous. The fresh rolls with shrimp was so filling and delightful as an appetizer too. The server and busser did an efficient job and we got all our food orders correctly. Everything was yummy, fresh and served hot. The ambiance of the restaurant feels very homey and casual. read more
Came here on a Sunday night with my sister and mom. The pho itself is pretty decent and they were pretty generous with the meat. However, the service was pretty nonexistent, even though there weren't any other guests there. One of the best places for vermicelli bowls in San Jose. They give huge portions. We ordered through DoorDash, and the food came fast and was still amazingly warm. Unlike other places where food to-go or delivered taste a bit soggy. This one was still good. read more
Pho Tau Bay has its ups and downs, but overall, it's a decent spot for Vietnamese food. We ordered Bun Bo Hue, Hu Tieu, and spring rolls. The portions were pretty good considering the price. They give generous portions of garnishes to go along with your meal! The Hu Tieu was my least favorite, it tasted a bit watered down unlike the Bun Bo Hue. Despite some mixed experiences, Pho Tau Bay is a family favorite for me and a good option for late-night Vietnamese food. The atmosphere is typical of a Vietnamese restaurant, and the staff is polite. However, the service might not be for everyone, as it's minimal and not very attentive. The cleanliness is acceptable, but not the cleanest. The location is convenient, but the parking lot can get crowded during lunchtime. If you're looking for a place with variety and open until midnight, Pho Tau Bay is worth a try. Remember to bring cash as they only accept cash payments!! read more

This is THEEEE absolute worst place to come for pho & food in general. Initially I was planning on dining at a different pho location close by but decided to head elsewhere due to the tight seating arrangements. I ended up here because it was close by and I once enjoyed me some Pho Tau Bay every now and then. Our party of 3 arrived and there was plenty of seating available. We were directed off to one corner and let the lady know we were in need of a high chair. After a bit of time had passed, our party was forced to request for a high chair for a second time. Menus were given shortly after and we were immediately asked if we were ready to order. You'd think the staff would give patrons a moment to look over the menu but I guess boredom trumps common courtesy... We ask to start off with some hot tea since it was so cold and thought that would give us time to look over the menu. Unfortunately, nothing came out. We eventually requested for hot tea THREE SEPARATE TIMES through 2 employees before something was finally brought to the table. At this point, there was clearly a trend going on- a trend that wasn't appreciated. Dinner consisted of: #1A [large]- Pho Dac Biet Tau Bay + Duoi Bo. #6 [regular]- Pho Tai Gan w/ Fresh Thick Rice Noodles Goi Cuon- fresh spring rolls Food came out quick but not in a good way. The broth was lukewarm and the noodle portions were skimp, bowls primarily consist of broth. WATERED DOWN BROTH AT THAT!! The only bright side to this meal was not having to do any blowing/cooling off the food when feeding my toddler. A nice delicious layer of fat/oil quickly took place as the bowl of soup went from lukewarm to cold-YUM!! 1 star because the spring rolls were surprisingly good. Everything else was just as bad as the service- which says a whole lot because I'm no stranger to typical Asian customer service but even this place left a bad taste in my mouth FIGURATIVELY & LITERALLY. One of my parents' fave pho places bc they are open late night! The pho is good - flavorful, big portions, not too much MSG, and service is fast. Just don't expect to be checked in on like at Western restaurants. Yeah, the tables and utensils are a bit sticky lol just wipe them down. You know it's legit when it's not 100% clean lol Tip: ask for your bean sprouts to be cooked if you like softer sprouts! read more

HOLY WOW! i had ordered the whole fried chicken and it was absolutely delicious! it was crispy, tender, and juicy. i highly recommend the fried chicken! look at the photos! you see and hear the crispy skin through the screen! love it! read more

Food is decent, but the restaurant is short staffed for sure. There's only one waiter, we waved for so many times for the bill and takeout box, we just got ignored, then we realized maybe we should go to the counter to checkout. we couldn't get the box we want, the reception lady ended up giving us one of the each size box. I would say the food is decent and maybe authentic, maybe next time I want some to come back I may choose a less busy time. read more

This place is known for pho but I just don't like their pho flavors but their pork spring roll and rices dishes! It is mostly empty during the weekday because there are too many competition foods around this plaza. I usually come for their pork spring roll nem nuong, it is freshly made in house. I don't like the dipping sauce that comes with it but I switch out with the regular sweet fish sauce and add lemon to it. Their rice rices with grilled pork is delicious too. Services here is super quick but the foods can take awhile even thought they are not that busy. If you order beef or chicken noodle soup, those will come out super quick! read more
The good: They have a lot of menu options! I had the red bean che, filet mignon rice porridge, and bun cha ha noi. In the past, I came here and tried their pho ap chao (something I think they specialize in). I enjoyed the porridge and how finely tender the meat was. It tasted great. The bun cha came with noodles, pickled veggies, and a lot of fresh herbs. We were seated immediately and it didn't take long for our food to come. The bad: When I asked for a highchair the waiter pointed at it in the "get it yourself it's right there" kind of way. There's no outdoor dining. All of the che are pre-scooped into cups and they add ice. The red bean che for some reason had a murky mushed grey coloration to it. The bun cha was alright. My mom said the porridge didn't sit well overnight because all of the water came out of it. The interesting: Cash only. They have a few other locations as well. read more
