1 star for them having no shame and speaking Vietnamese right in front of me when they knew I understood.. I only ate here because my usual go to place in the food court was closed for maintenance for some reason and this place had Bun Bo Hue and I really wanted some Bun Bo Hue. I came up to the counter and ordered BBH and asked the lady if she can make it extra spicy..she said "it's going to be really spicy" I'm like okay the spicer the better..I like it really spicy. Waited about 5 minutes and another lady brought my food out. I asked her for extra chili oil and she snapped at me saying "it's already really spicy are you sure you can eat it if it's that spicy.." I just wanted to note my entire interaction is in Vietnamese with this restaurant. The lady went to the back and reluctantly got me my chili oil. I also asked for siracha but they don't have it. I said she reluctantly got it because she went to the back and told the other lady "that girl wants chili oil she's not going to be able to eat it if it's that spicy.." the other lady said just give it to her. The lady made a couple other rude remarks in Vietnamese..and then came out and gave me my chili oil. Shout out to them for not being ashamed and speaking loud so I can hear everything. Great service..not really but I hope the sarcasm shows through this interview. When she brought out my chili oil I offered to pay..thinking maybe she'll be happier if I offered to pay..she was like no you don't have to pay..and she turned to her co-worker saying this lady wants to pay and they both laughed. These two women could have been my mom's age. I don't understand why they were laughing..but it just shows you..maturity does not equate to age. You have a restaurant the least you can do is try to be nice. I've worked in the service industry before..so I always try my best to be nice because I know how a rude customer can ruin your day The BBH was okay..I could have used a lot more spice..but by the time I started eating I was over it and didn't want to go back to ask for more chili oil. The broth was kinda bland but if you add a bunch of fish sauce to the broth it does make it slightly better. WHEN: Sun @3:30pm Located in the food court of the the Grand Century Mall, which gets pretty busy since its the weekend. Parking is decent since the mall has plenty of free parking. Most if not all food stalls only take cash come prepared! There's also a decent amount of seatings since it was after the lunch rush hour, however it's still busy. After circling the food court for awhile trying to decide on food, my sis and I decided on this spot and ordered: #1 MI QUANG - $14 We asked for extra broth since this dish is known to be served with very little broth. Overall decent but not a huge fan of the meat it comes in. #16 - BANH BEO - $10 Comes with 6. Made to order so very fresh when it comes out. Eat right away while its hot and soft! Not enough for a meal but a fun snack to share. Each has a pork rind, and just enough shrimp and green onion (not generous). Overall delicious! I think there's only a total of 2 people working here because it does take awhile for the food to be ready. They do have a posting that says "Help Wanted". I actually quite like this place! I ordered the grilled shrimp spring rolls twice this week. I know $11 is kind of steep for spring rolls, but it does come with 4 rolls. This place had Bun Bo Da Nang and that sounded interesting. I've been to many places in other areas that were less expensive but used bad pieces of meat, so I usually avoid meat when ordering VietNamese food. I had hope tonight. The tea was good and took the chill away. It wasn't long and the food was ready. You need to pay attention, as they probably won't deliver it to the table. How fortuitous that the only two reviews posted before mine are a five star and a one star. Looks like my three stars fits snugly right in the middle! Considering how we had just placed our orders at Kim Loi Banh Bao a couple of stalls over, I really wasn't looking to order anything else. However, my wandering eyes and curiosity conspired against me. Not that my more rational side resisted much against the idea of trying one of my newly found favorites here. Besides, I'm just #doingitforYelp. As soon as I saw Huong Duong's menu included BANH BEO ($6.95-ish), I just had to try it. The price was fair enough for what we got (all seven were nicely filled), but I can't say I was overly impressed. I liked the size of the pork rinds, and the dried shrimp was really flavorful (albeit unevenly distributed), but the rice cakes were a bummer. While the flavor was fine (don't forget the fish sauce!), the consistency was thicker and more gluttonous than I would have liked. Given how the food wasn't bad, and how earnest and friendly the workers are, I'd be open to returning again. Since Huong Duong is essentially a food court joint (they're inside the Grand Century Mall), it's not like I was expecting their banh beo to be as good as others I've tried anyways (though I was hopeful). It was not good at all and the cheap ass boss/worker there only gave me one toothpick for the snails. I said i have 4 people and the cheap person didn't want to give me more toothpicks. They just opened on Sunday September 14, 2014. The people working there are really nice and answered all the questions I had about the food on their menu. I ordered Oc len xao dua ( snails in coconut broth) and Nem nuong cuon ( ground pork bbq spring rolls). Both of the items were really good! The snails were very fresh and crunchy unlike other places where you can still taste the sand granules and are soggy. You can tell that they just rolled the spring rolls because they weren't dry or soggy and they also grill their ground pork sausage instead of frying them. Plus, since they just opened they're also giving a 10% discount off the order and a free drink until the end of this month. Overall, I had a great experience there. I'll be coming back to try other items the next time I'm at Grand Century mall. read more
