I'm visiting from out of town with my boyfriend who grew up in the neighborhood where King Donut is at and I was AMAZED at their beef fried rice and donuts. He always talks about how good their food and donuts are and we had to stop by. The beef fried rice was nice and hot when I opened the plate and after my first bite I fell in love. There is so much flavor in one spoonful and the different ingredients compliment the other so well. The portion alone was big and I wasn't able to finish it in one sitting but even as I ate the leftovers hours later they were still good and fulfilling. 100/100 read more

This started when I replied to a Yelp discussion thread last night. So I made the trek from Shoreline to Rainier Beach to checkout King Donuts. A combination of laundromat, teriyaki, and a huge variety of doughnuts. The kiddo inhaled a giant maple bar and I ate a chocolate twist. Love the slightly crispy exterior and light interior with yummy glaze. No cloying over the top sweetness, just right! Loved the hilarious signage on the wall: 'Sarcasm is free everyday' and 'The boobs are real, the smile is fake'. Nice, easy going guy behind the counter. I can't vouch for their laundry facilities, but the donuts are exceptional and the food is scrumdiddlyumptious. The misses and I got a plain glazed donut. It was perfectly proofed, exceptionally light and fluffy, and not greasy at all. It had a nice thin coating of glaze adding just enough sweetness. The chicken teriyaki is not the best I've had in Seattle, but it was down right tasty. The chile flakes they put on top we're surprisingly flavorful without being insanely hot. I really enjoyed the pad see ew, the rice noodles had a silky chew to them and the veggies tasted fresh. The service was fast and friendly. I was walked past on the way to meet someone and saw the King Donuts sign. Then I re-read it and saw "laundromat" and also Thai restaurant. I was then really confused, like wait, all-in-one? What kind of combo IS this? Basically at this point you NEED to check it out...and check it out I did. Donuts - There was still a ton of them when I went in around 11:30a. I got two of them, but I don't exactly know what they are, I just know they were the favorite of the person working the counter. I got a glazed and a strawberry (for my coworker). The glazed was really good. It was not so much like a regular donut, it was kinda eggy and moist bordering on soggy. Okay, that does NOT make it sound good, but it was. The maple bars looked amazing, but I wasn't that committed to sweet at this time. Great selection. Thai food - I got the pad see ew, which I am currently eating as I write this. It is amazing. I got 2 stars on the heat and I'm a heat whimp and it has a kick. So if you can't handle heat, either get no heat or a 1 star. It is also a big portion, so family-style size. Although as I'm looking at the dent I put in it, it's a good one, so maybe enough for two people at one meal or two meals for one person. Fresh veggies, lots of noodles and meat and this amazing bonito sprinkle (?) on top that is delicious! Worth the $9 (what I think it costs anyway) for sure. New to the area and Drove by here a few time and from the reviews just had to stop by, I got the maple Bar and the maple cream filled donuts. Donuts were great, fresh and melt in your mouth, I wasn't a fan of the cream filling (was more of a pudding) but I think that was more of a personal preference. Monkey still trying different offerings, but the understated CINNAMON ROLL is nice and light and not overly sweet, so you can eat the whole damn thing at once. Fully loaded APPLE FRITTER & APPLE PIE will not disappoint. Love how the RASPBERRY FILLED & LEMON are actually two halves sandwiching thick filling, avoiding the accidental ooze or identifying smear while driving. Yes, they have Teriyaki - but not the same. I was thrilled to see that someone bought the old King Donuts. I went to the old restaurant the last day and ordered my standard "chicken teriyaki" and diet coke and savored it as I thought that would be the last time I would be able to eat there. Today I went into the new version of King Donuts and while they do serve teriyaki, it is not the same. The first thing you notice is there is no salad. For me, this is no big deal, since I rarely eat the salad served with teriyaki. It was replaced with an extra serving of rice. This made for too much rice for me. But the chicken, while plenty was there, was not as good. A combination of different teriyaki sauce and unevenly cooked meat, it just is not as good as the old teriyaki, or that of many other places in South Seattle. They have a bunch of Thai items on the menu now. Maybe I will go back for that some day. But the only reason I would go back for Teriyaki here is if I get a craving for it on Sunday - since they are one of the few places in Seattle where they are open on Sunday and serve it. read more

Saying their donuts are amazing is an understatement. These are superior donuts. I was in the area so I thought I would pick up a dozen. Most donut places have their freshest ones first thing in the morning, but I stopped by around lunchtime and they were still soft and good. Every time I have bought donuts from any other place, leftovers are a little stale the next day. King Donuts were not. The glazed was still soft and fluffy as the day before. I did not know they had hot food or I would have planned my lunch around that. I did get to try some pot stickers. Crispy pot stickers are the best pot stickers and that is a hill I will die on. There were the best pot stickers I have ever had. Alternate pot sticker and donut hole for a sweet and savory snack. I am proud of my discovery, or that I had almost polished them off by the time I hit the freeway, but in the interest of supporting my five star I will share my shame. Also, I thought the prices were cheap, especially for the quality. While it is a little for for me to be a regular, I will for sure be making the side trip in the future when I am anywhere nearby. read more

So I went in on a Sunday morning, exhausted from the night before's festivities. The place was surprisingly crowded for a humble doughnut shop. A large group of elderly patrons (regulars I'm sure) gathered at a large table in the back playing the most intense game of cards I've ever seen, one lady was hooting and slapping the table. I heard conversations in three different languages on my short stroll to the glass counter. Instantly I was taken by the glistening pastry behind the glass. Large pillowy dough balls stared back at me and my mouth filled with warm saliva. I got four doughnuts, two for myself two for my partner. I got the maple cream and the lemon jelly. One bite and it was like magic. The flaky bread melted away in my mouth as the sugar rushed through my veins. I scarfed down the two morsels leaving a mess of glazing bits and an artful smear of lemon jelly. Best breakfast. read more

Right now I'm sitting in the parking lot of King Donuts destroying my donut while I try to type with one hand on mobile how bomb it is. I grew up in California where small hole in the wall donut shops like this are in abundance. After moving up here to Washington I notice that there aren't many like this. Washington has more hipster and "artisan" donut shops that charge $4 a donut. That's okay but it isn't the same. Walking into King Donuts has the nostalgia running back to me from elementary to high school I would always stop by the donut shop greeted by the friendly shop owner who always knew what I wanted. I guess I miss the small sense of community and comfort that these donut shops provided growing up. It's a humbling experience to remember where I came from and I appreciate places that can bring that to me. This is my go to donut spot in Seattle, it's a relic, a capsule, a reminder that even as time moves forward and you're busy as a bee to take time and enjoy the simple things in life. read more

You would be hard pressed to find a better place for donuts in town. These suckers have just the right amount of crisp outside melded with an airy/fluffy inside. Just absolute heaven! Donuts here will run from $1 to $1.85 individually. A half dozen goes for $4.99 and whole dozen for $9.95. This place reminds me a lot of donut shops in California where they serve other dishes outside of donuts (Chinese food, Middle Eastern, etc.). Here they serve teriyaki! I haven't had a chance to sample any of that, but maybe on another visit! This place will seem out of the way since it is deep in the Rainier Valley, but you should definitely check it out! 12/18/15 Went to King Donut for the first time today. We've driven by Kings many times, as it sits in the parking lot of the closest large grocery store (and more to the point, the closest liquor store) - but had never tried it. They serve teriyaki and donuts, which seems like an odd combo, but apparently a winning one. Also have the normal cold case with ice cold milk, sodas, etc. Don't let the exterior fool you - these doughnuts are phenomenal! Light, just the right amount of glaze/topping. It's friendly service, and community roots make it the perfect place. Great for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon snack, or dinner and dessert. It's truly a gem to the Rainier Beach/Skyway area! This spot is munchie heaven--Nestled on the corner of 51st and Rainier, this place truly lived up to it's setting. The donuts are more creative then your standard donut chain, the toppings used on the glazes would remind you of an ice cream parlor, it's just that extra touch that makes locally owned restaurants better. Our personal favorite is the apple fritter, it's to die for, (and worth that extra time in the gym to burn it off). I will certainly be back again sometime... Did I mention that there is a laundry mat connected to it, so if you have some dirty clothes to wash, you enter in the laundry side get your load going and then order some food while it washes or dries. Latest visit will be my last as a LARGE RAT was gorging itself on donut crumbs off the dining area floor without a care in the world (see pictures). One of the customers said the rats come in from the open doors and dryer vents in the laundromat. I mistakenly thought the RAT was a stuffed toy until it started moving and scurried down the wall behind me and through some pots of dirt and what looks like a filthy old HP printer. (NOTE: On September 8, 2016 Yelp removed the picture of the King Donuts RAT that I posted. To Yelp's credit they did not ask that the review be edited or remove other pictures of the restaurant's filth.) Rats coming in so casually during the day means they're crawling over everything at night. I left and took my donuts with me but couldn't eat them knowing disease carrying rats crawled over them and through the ingredients that were used to make them. Unfortunately, with all that I really, really like there is a definite NOT on the teriyaki. Ironically, there are very few teriyaki places in a few mile radius of this location, which ideally would make a great location for teriyaki. I decided to try their chicken yakisoba. Bad choice! Basically, I was served noodles with specs of chicken. I really had to search for the chicken. $7.99 for this dish is way too overpriced for a plate of noodles. Flavoring of the dish was good and I enjoyed the green onions which is different than other yakisoba dishes I have elsewhere. But, the big mistake is lack of meat when ordered. King Donuts donuts have always been delicious. However, we visited the new location on April 27th, to treat our children to donuts before school. The customer service was horrible. The man that works there on the morning of 4/27, was rude and yelled at my friend in front of all the patrons. He accused her of taking 50 cents out of the tip jar. I had given her the 50 cents she was mistakenly getting ready to put it in the tip jar. She realized what she was doing and put it on the counter. He treated her, as a Black Woman horribly, and his behavior was degrading, coming from a white man. Our children were there and it was something they should not have witnessed. read more
