It does seem a little steep for a sweet treat but given how well prepared all the condiments are inside and how many combinations they have on their menu, it's worth it on occasion. Beans in a sweet dessert is something common in Asia but definitely an acquired taste regardless. Theres plenty of variety you are sure to find something that piques your interest. This spot is a bit far from me so it's always a treat when we get it. My parents picked some drinks and desserts up from here the other day and sadly it's not what I remember it being. Drinks: (3/5) I've always loved getting the strawberry nuoc mia (sugarcane juice), but I think they may have changed something about it since the last time I got it. It's much larger (the cup is HUGE), which is typically a good thing but I felt like it was just toooo much. Hard to finish before it isn't fresh anymore. It also had a ton of chunks which weren't to most pleasant. The strawberry flavor wasn't really there either. I would say this is definitely a hidden gem for a sweet treat! I tried the halo halo and smashed young coconut and they were so good! The ube flavor is strong in the halo halo and the ice cream on top is super flavorful. The drink had plenty of toppings but not too much that I couldn't drink anything. The drink itself is quite sweet but I just loved the ube flavor. The flan on top was also a stand out topping and was so good. The smashed young coconut was refreshing and had a strong coconut flavor. I really liked the jellies inside and it's great for coconut lovers! Overall this place has strong flavors and authentic Vietnamese desserts! The store itself also offers a variety of other Vietnamese snacks. However I do have to point out this time we had to wait almost over 30 minutes for our four drinks :( Last time my friend said it was only about 10-15 minutes wait, which is more typical. read more

Had my eye on this place for awhile now so I jumped at the opportunity to stop by on my way to comic con. The shop was empty and after couple mins looking at the menu, I ordered the Soda mix - mango & jelly. Took 10+mins to make my mango jelly soda mix drink and crazy part is I'm the first customer before the rush. The drink consists of sparkling water, and mango jelly... I was hoping some of the mango jelly syrup in the drink for flavor. But to my surprise it's was just sparkling water and mango jelly... for $6, had to be a joke. The owner is so friendly and knows how to serve the people. Now the dessert, amazing. It is THE perfect sweetness (for what we ordered).I loved all the inclusions in my dessert and believe there is a slight durian ingredient in there, normally not a big fan of durian but it was mixed with a jelly of some sort I think (there's a lot of things going on in it since it's che) but it wasn't overpowering. The avocado used was so fresh on top and not mushy. There is a bean mixed with the avocado drink & it was nicely blended. I see why it can have some bit of mix reviews because they offer such a variety of things here. But I just appreciate that it's made to the perfect sweetness level here. Will definitely come back. Durian che~ hello! This place is hands down 5 stars. So hard to find authentic che and here they have quite the variety. It's such a cute little hole in the wall with a ton of snacks, dried seafood, fruits, and even rice paper with fish sauce. They have all the smoothies galore you could hope for, and even avocado coffee smoothies! I came from the bay so it's been impossible to find anything close to authentic. I came here after hearing recommendation of this place. Decided to stop by before heading to my appointment. The lady here was so nice and kind. I got different types of Che like Che Bap, Che Khoai Mon and asked for the coconut to be left on the side. The sugarcane drink was refreshing, reasonable and good. It was only $5 a cup. Super cheap than other places, and they didn't drenched it with tons of ice either whereas other places you pay for ice at the premium price. First the drink, Thai tea tastes nothing like Thai tea and the amount of sugar it tastes was horrible. Literally straight sweet, full of diabetes. And onto the combo banh mi, tell me why it was not your typical banh mi sandwich. It was shredded baguette with banh mi toppings and their unique sauce. Which was not it, it had a very weird taste to it. I was super disappointed I was craving a banh mi sandwich and I definitely got something else than I was hoping for. For 2 items my cost was a little over $20 which is expensive. Like wow!!! Service was decent the grandma was not rude but definitely not as friendly either. Tiny hole in the wall che spot with a HUGE menu. We stopped by on a 90 degree Sunday afternoon so they were backed up and it took us a while to get our order. The owner was working the register and is super friendly. Everything was great and all our drinks were correct. This is the one place I go to for che, their drinks are always the best and are my absolute favorite! They open daily, and parking around the area it's located in - King Plaza - is extremely tight and dicey. I'd recommend street parking and walking over here instead. There's a ton of Vietnamese snacks when you get inside, and the menu is just opposite the cash register when you walk in. There's no seating inside so everything is purely takeout. The place offers Vietnamese street food, coffee, smoothies, and their famous che desserts. Whenever I go here, I love getting their three beans dessert, rainbow dessert and their Seattle special. I recommend all three of these, though the drinks are huge and you can easily get full off of just one of them. For the drinks, you can request the ice be packed separately from them or be inside the cups when you get them. For this review I got the Seattle special, and it's delicious as always! Everything blends in very well, and the portion is huge. This is one of the spots I go to almost weekly, and they do their che desserts right and consistently! I visited Che Dessert for the first time yesterday after my favorite spot next door was closed for Lunar New Year. Since it was the only place open, it was extremely busy and a bit hectic inside. At first, I stood in the line area, assuming that's where orders were placed, but a kind couple directed me to the actual ordering spot--there were no signs indicating where to order, which made it a bit confusing. The atmosphere was festive, with lanterns and vibrant red decorations everywhere. Nearly every customer was dressed in red, celebrating the holiday. I ordered the smashed young coconut dessert and asked the cashier for their most popular drink--he recommended the Rainbow, so I added that to my order. The wait was over 20 minutes due to the holiday rush, but I appreciated that they were open when most places were closed. The smashed young coconut dessert was absolutely delicious, and I'd definitely return just for that. My husband enjoyed the Rainbow dessert--it reminded him of a Cham dessert his mom makes, which made it even more special. Was in the area and decided to stop by! I ordered their Che Thai as it's a personal favorite of mine since childhood. The shop doesn't seem like much on the outside, but don't overlook this place because the menu is absolutely HUGE. I ordered in Vietnamese and the employees were nice. When I ordered my drink, they let me know beforehand it would come with durian but also mentioned they could customize and didn't have to add it. As I am not the biggest durian fan, I appreciated that this was an option. I loved the variety of fruits and jellies the drink came with (jackfruit, rambutan, red rubies, green jello, coconut jellies just to name a few). For $7, I think it's a good deal! Tucked into a small corner of a booming SE Asian mall is the colorful drink/snack shop called Che Dessert. Surprisingly, they close before 6 pm so get there during the daytime. This place specializes in Southeast Asian desserts, which can best be described as parfait-like concoctions with more interesting/exotic ingredients (e.g., taro, red bean, sago, mango & other fruits, ices, puddings, and yes, even durian). The dessert menu has like 3 dozen items with only a photo giving any indication of what's in it. So if you're unsure about an item, best ask otherwise you might be eating things (yes, durian!), that you might not really want. All the desserts were between $5 & $8, a real deal when you see how large and ingredient-full they are. We shared a halo halo (Filipino style drink/dessert) that was sweet but not too sweet). The flavors blended nicely as certain frozen components melted. But using a spoon, you could also munch on individual items in this delectable conglomeration of tastes. This place is strictly takeout (no seating), but they also sell hot cooked food items as well as dried salty and sweet Asian confections. This is a must-stop whenever I'm in Seattle now. read more

Holy crap. what a gem in Seattle. I grew up near Westminster CA which has the largest population of Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam. Chè essentially just means dessert in Vietnamese, and they have all kinds of goodies that you can order. I love the iced desserts -- in the photos I attached a picture of my smashed coconut dessert (L39). I loved the contrast between the slushy, fresh coconut fruit as well as the green jelly! My friend got the Malaysian dessert (L32), and it looked and tasted super as well. Outside of the desserts on the counter, there's also a bunch of homemade goods that you could check out as well. LOVE THIS PLACE! Peter, the owner, is super welcoming and we always chat it up when he's in. The shop itself is not the largest, so I wouldn't come here to do work. I'm usually here after I get my Bun Bo Hue fix at Hoang Lan nearby! But unlike Hoang Lan, this place takes credit card! You come here for Che - hence, the name of the shop. I've also fallen in love with the simple desserts, such as the Taro & Tapioca in Coconut Milk and Winter Melon Tea (refreshing for a summer day), as well as the more complex ones: the Malaysian Dessert, Special Che Combo, and Halo Halo. I haven't had the Halo Halo but the other day I saw a Filipina lady order it. If a Filipino person orders a Filipino dessert here, which is Viet, then you know it's LAH-JIT! I also love how they have real fruit here - none of that canned shit! Case in point: my friend's Che contained actual Lychee fruit, and they were large and plump. They also have durian here, which usually comes in the form of a nice dollop on top of the dessert. Alternatively, it will be the main lead in some desserts like the Durian Sticky Rice, which I love as it tastes like my childhood (not to say my childhood stinks...). Finally, Che Dessert Lounge contains a nice selection of smoothies, frappes, and savory foods (including the dish that Obama loves). Will try all of those someday! read more

This place. Walking in it's easy to forget how many years they've been open (over 5?!) because it's hard to notice any natural "wear & tear" one may often find elsewhere. Yeah, that stuff, you know what I mean. I used to come by often when I lived at The Station Apts over 5 years ago. I checked in and was surprised I'm still the Duke here, haha. Located in the ol' crummy King Plaza strip mall (which is frankly overdue for updating the corner primary signage [which was probably last touched before Che moved in]), it holds steadfast among the usual hustle & bustle of the multi-ethnic south end. There always tends to be a positive pulse in here, regardless of time. While they've been open for several years now, the front of the shop is kept in really great condition. I like the pleasing color variety & indoor greenery decor that also appears in the bathroom. Just a damn cool shop for what it is. On to the goods*: it has a couple things I enjoy, some things I find repulsive, other stuff that just, you know, ehh not my cup of tea (mostly because I'm a healthy-ish vegan). I'd say in order of frequency, I've gotten the following: avocado smoothie, avocado-durian smoothie, durian smoothie, durian-avocado smoothie, black eyed pea pudding thing, taro banana pudding thing, coconut jelly pudding thing (really most of the coconut milk based pudding things), a che 3 or 5 probably, banh tet (mung bean one), banh tet chuoi (banana) and yeah. Perhaps I'll try more vegan options later but my usual items stick out. Minor serious note: one thing to be aware of (for all of us conscious consumers out there) is that many of the pickled/preserved & packaged convenience snacks in Vietnamese cafes are full of artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. The nice packaging is definitely alluring. The staff are really nice and definitely try to understand what you want, especially when Peter or Tracy are up front. Both so cool & super friendly. Always nice coming back after long periods of time to greet them. If you get their other staff and have have lots of questions, you may have to be patient, order less difficult options or have a Vietnamese buddy with you to help communicate clearly your order(s). Location is prime! Parking is plenty in the nearby lots, garage, side streets and Chase Bank when closed. Transit options: Light Rail, Buses 36, 50 and 106. *I've yet to verify whether or not any of the sugar used is from bone char. read more

For those who are fans of Bambu or like Viet desserts/boba in general, highly recommend stopping by this cute little shop :) Over the past few years, this place has definitely improved a lot! Gone are the Viet only menus (now replaced by easy to read English menus), food quality + portion = good, and overall, this place is my go to spot if I'm in the south end of Seattle. Things to note: Pricing: For food items, most items are around $10 and below. Drinks / desserts range in the $3-7 mark. Food Options: Mostly light snacks, desserts and a variety of different kinds of noodle soups. Don't expect to see any big typical rice dishes and on the plus side, there are some vegetarian options too :) Desserts: Go for the che options, fresh fruit smoothies, or do the exotic sounding items. :) Totally worth it Interior: Place is fairly small and it can get randomly packed sometimes at odd hours.
