This place. Walking in it's easy to forget how many years they've been open (over 5?!) because it's hard to notice any natural "wear & tear" one may often find elsewhere. Yeah, that stuff, you know what I mean. I used to come by often when I lived at The Station Apts over 5 years ago. I checked in and was surprised I'm still the Duke here, haha. Located in the ol' crummy King Plaza strip mall (which is frankly overdue for updating the corner primary signage [which was probably last touched before Che moved in]), it holds steadfast among the usual hustle & bustle of the multi-ethnic south end. There always tends to be a positive pulse in here, regardless of time. While they've been open for several years now, the front of the shop is kept in really great condition. I like the pleasing color variety & indoor greenery decor that also appears in the bathroom. Just a damn cool shop for what it is. On to the goods*: it has a couple things I enjoy, some things I find repulsive, other stuff that just, you know, ehh not my cup of tea (mostly because I'm a healthy-ish vegan). I'd say in order of frequency, I've gotten the following: avocado smoothie, avocado-durian smoothie, durian smoothie, durian-avocado smoothie, black eyed pea pudding thing, taro banana pudding thing, coconut jelly pudding thing (really most of the coconut milk based pudding things), a che 3 or 5 probably, banh tet (mung bean one), banh tet chuoi (banana) and yeah. Perhaps I'll try more vegan options later but my usual items stick out. Minor serious note: one thing to be aware of (for all of us conscious consumers out there) is that many of the pickled/preserved & packaged convenience snacks in Vietnamese cafes are full of artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. The nice packaging is definitely alluring. The staff are really nice and definitely try to understand what you want, especially when Peter or Tracy are up front. Both so cool & super friendly. Always nice coming back after long periods of time to greet them. If you get their other staff and have have lots of questions, you may have to be patient, order less difficult options or have a Vietnamese buddy with you to help communicate clearly your order(s). Location is prime! Parking is plenty in the nearby lots, garage, side streets and Chase Bank when closed. Transit options: Light Rail, Buses 36, 50 and 106. *I've yet to verify whether or not any of the sugar used is from bone char. read more

For those who are fans of Bambu or like Viet desserts/boba in general, highly recommend stopping by this cute little shop :) Over the past few years, this place has definitely improved a lot! Gone are the Viet only menus (now replaced by easy to read English menus), food quality + portion = good, and overall, this place is my go to spot if I'm in the south end of Seattle. Things to note: Pricing: For food items, most items are around $10 and below. Drinks / desserts range in the $3-7 mark. Food Options: Mostly light snacks, desserts and a variety of different kinds of noodle soups. Don't expect to see any big typical rice dishes and on the plus side, there are some vegetarian options too :) Desserts: Go for the che options, fresh fruit smoothies, or do the exotic sounding items. :) Totally worth it Interior: Place is fairly small and it can get randomly packed sometimes at odd hours. My trip to Seattle reveal many good places including this one which let me visit many food memories. Did not have this in our itinerary but due to being lost and thirsty decide to drop by. First of all $5 SUGAR CANE JUICE? Yes pulease. It was magical. Love every second of it. Also order rice paper salad so I can relive my childhood ~ so much beauty, so innocent, so delicious. Yes we each got our own damn plate , no sharing. Also got the HERB DRINK. I love stopping by here for quick eats whenever I am in the neighborhood running errands. The food is so delicious and made quickly, a great stop-and-go type place! The ice cream and toppings were cold and the purple sticky rice was warm. It was enough to share with another person. I see it every time I go to my favorite locations in and around that area (DDD's hood and in CP's vicinity*). Here is what they offer: 1) Fresh fruit juices $6 - pressed from real fruit: Orange, Lime, Mango, Watermelon, Papaya, Grapefruit, Honeydew, Passionfruit, Tomato and Carrot, Pineapple, Strawberry, and Cantaloupe. 2) Healthy Custom Smoothies $7 - a blend of fruit and vegetables that are good for you. 3) Regular Smoothies/Slushes $5 - Fruit mixes... 4) Vietnamese Coffee $2.50 with or without milk 5) Coffee Frappuccinos $4- different blends of coffees in an icy cold form, think Starbucks. 6) Milk $3 - a jar of homemade Soybean, Green Bean Soybean and Corn Milk. 7) Tea $3 - hot or cold teas and lattes. They also have herb tea (pennywort) for $2. 8) Soda mix $5 - unique mixes of flavors with soda...kind of like an enhanced Italian soda 9) Pastries - a variety of mini eclairs, macarons, puff pastries, cakes and sweets at varying prices in the glass display case. 10) Che - how can I forget what their main focus is? The different varieties of traditional Vietnamese desserts, most of which are $3.50 for the regular kinds and $5 for the "premium" specials they offer. 11) Other - they also sell the "Vietnamese" burger, papaya salad, flan, etc. My initial visit was short and here are my observations, mostly applicable for new businesses like this one: a) the dining room area could use a designer to help maximize the use of space and provide additional seating for guests. b) wall decor should be added for more appeal, i.e. look and feel. c) translations in English for non-Vietnamese folks can help patrons better determine what to get and understand the dessert offerings. d) free WiFi - this is always a welcome feature essential for those coming in to enjoy desserts.... logging into Facebook (where they can check in and get a free pennywort drink for a limited time). e) menu can and probably should be revised so that the traditional priced stuff are up top and premium priced items are on the bottom. This will eliminate any confusion on pricing and will visually flow better. Overall, I had the premium offerings - 5 color pudding dessert $5 (Che 5 mau) and the Tofu Deluxe special $5 (Tofu dac biet I think). The quality of the ingredients are high with good flavor. However, I ordered the homemade Soybean milk in a large jar $3 to go and I wasn't a big fan compared to getting it at the store or local Tofu store. The owner stated they do not use any powders and use real fruit, a plus in my book. It is unclear at this point how their premium items will sell based on this higher pricing scheme. Time will tell. It had 4.5 stars so decided to drive 20mins for it..mind u i hate driving around Seattle especially when ur not familiar with the roads but this was so worth it. I got the Malaysian che bcus i like anything with durian in it & my hubby who never like che ordered a "nhat" che and killed it, so that says a lot. Their che sweetness is the perfect amount & the portion is big. I didn't finish mine but ate it the next day & it was still bomb. Usually the beans or chestnut would get hard but it was still good. I see great potential for this place. However, it tries a little too hard to mimic the famous Bambu and falls dangerously short from replicating their success. I believe their greatest downfall will be their menu. First off, it's entirely 100% Vietnamese. That drastically cuts down your potential customers. Second, there are no explanations to their menu . I came here with my mother, who grew up in Vietnam and even she didn't know what was in majority of their items. So I defaulted to looking up a picture on yelp and ordering off of the yelp photos. I inadvertently picked "special tofu dessert" and they asked me if I wanted hot or cold. Well I've never heard of such a dessert before so I asked for their professional opinion. What I received was no opinion and if I "wanted it warm, then I should put it on the microwave". I sincerely hope that is not how they prepare this dessert to their other customers. But all that aside, the atmosphere is not the most inviting. This place is more of an order and go as fast as you can place. Granted, I'm fully aware Vietnamese restaurants / delis aren't known for their customer service, but there is a lady dressed in what looked like a monks outfit preparing some food out in the customers space. Furthermore, the cashier's iPhone dinged every few seconds. Completely distracting and takes away from the experience of getting a fun dessert. I have been craving coconut-milked based desserts to tone down my cravings for South East Asian desserts and I was really glad I had a chance to try some desserts at Che Dessert Lounge this weekend. I had no idea this place was actually really close by and within the walking distance from Othello Sound Transit Link station, so I imagine it's convenient, especially for those who commute regularly using the Sound Transit as well. This café isn't upscale by any means and offers a large selection of dessert from slushes to coconut based milk desserts to flavored jelly cups, etc. We ordered the Che 5 Mau (coconut milk based desserts with assorted toppings for $5) and a 3-layer jelly cup ($3ish) to share. The 3-layer jelly cup was refreshing. The passion fruit jelly on the top was suddle but still present and not overly sweet while the coconut jelly second layer was flavorful. We couldn't tell what the last layer of the jelly (in pink color) was as the flavor was a bit faint, but my guess was it had some sort of light floral/fruity smell to it. Their Che 5 Mau was of a larger size and I was glad it wasn't too overly sweet as well. What I like about the Che 5 Mau was their generous toppings. The toppings consisted of ground peanuts, sticky rice, clear and flour jellies, white/red beans and mung beans. They were fun to drink using a straw with the coconut milk and crushed ice that came with it. Overall, great spot to grab SEA/Vietnamese desserts. They have limited seats but still plenty of parking spots around. You can still grab your desserts in a cup/bowl to go, too. read more

From my few visits here, I love it. I've had the D20 - Rainbow Dessert/Chè 7 màu (Chè ba màu), D3 - Cendol with Water Chestnut Tapioca/Bánh Lot Ht Lu, and their Sugarcane Juice. The Chè that I have tried here were all super good, and had the right amount of sweetness. You can ask for your Chè to have ice or had no ice. The sugarcane juice wasn't that great, and it was a disappointment to me. It tasted pretty watered down. But, this is a place that you definitely need to check out. I used to make fun of my parents for wanting to eat viet food on our travels but now that I'm a little older i kinda get it lol. I was feeling a little homesick from my trip to seattle and was looking to find a little piece of home through food. I've experienced a fair share of viet food having grown up in san jose and now living in socal for 10+ yrs and i must say the food here is on par, if not better than whats offered in california which is quite the statement considering i've been up and down all of little saigon. Too often we durian lovers are treated like outcasts and criminals. We must eat our fruit in secret, or else people will look upon us with disgust (or kick us out of the building). But here, it's different. Here, we feel loved and accepted. The menu has it all, from durian crepes and durian smoothies, to durian che. It's a haven. Been trying to find a Chè place since moving here from SoCal Westminster where there's a Chè place in every corner. And I've been looking for Durian Sticky Rice which is so hard to find. I saw that they had it so I ordered it. I was disappointed on what I got because that's not what I thought it would be BUT holy moly, it was delicious.
