I came down to visit my friend, and I have been having some sushi cravings. I never realized until I tried to yelp around that there are so many sushi spots around the area. Although a lot of them looked more like rolls and not authentic style Japanese. My friend recommended Kihon as he mentioned the fish is fresh and an Authentic Japanese style sushi. I trust his opinions since like myself he is a sushi admirer.
There is parking in a small lot. The inside is clean and spacious. Glad that it was not packed and were seated right away at the bar. They have ramen, appetizers, specialties, rolls and of course sushi. My friend ordered a house sake, which to my surprise was great. I'm not a fan of warm alcohol, and a find the sake I always tried were dry and harsh. This was very smooth and subtle in flavor.
_Yellowtail Belly Sushi. Color was nice light pink. Pretty fresh and lightly fatty. I can tell right away the rice was pretty good. Room temperature, just the way it should be.
_Halibut Sushi. Very refreshing and light in flavor. The ponzu sauce and salt had a nice acidic taste as well as a tad salty to give extra flavor, as the halibut can be a tad bland.
_Salmon Belly Sushi. This was good, a bit more fattier than what I'm used to for salmon belly. It does have a more rich flavor compared to salmon. A bit of lemon squeezed on top would have been better and a bit needed, personal preference.
_Albacore Belly Sushi. This was amazing! I think this is the first time I had Albacore belly. The fish was fresh and the flavors were a great balance of sweet and acidic. Ponzu sauce and I can't tell what was the extra special sauce to give that mild sweetness, without overwhelming the fish itself. One of my fave of the night!
_Salmon Skin Handroll. I ordered easy rice, but for the first time wish there was slightly a tad bit more. Or maybe it was the salmon skin that was just okay. It was good, but I've had better. I do like that they add gobo and sprouts. A solid handroll.
_Dungeness Crab Roll ($12.95) Baked dungeness crab on spicy tuna roll in soy paper. Comes in 5 semi big cut. Good amount of dungeness crab on top. Nicely cooked, the sauce was a bit sweet and reminded me of teriyaki sauce or the sauce they put for dynamite roll. The spicy tuna roll itself was good, and the crab was a great add on to the tuna. I think there was cucumber inside? some type of vegetable which was good because the texture is all soft from the tuna and crab so a crunch was nice. On top of that it's a bit rich and heavy so the cucumber balanced the rich flavors.
_Uni Sushi. I was so surprised at how fresh and sweet the uni was. My fave of the night! For those who, never had uni or had bad ones for the first time, you should come here to redo your experience, and you just may become a uni lover. It was so sweet, almost tasted like dessert. Damn.. If only I lived closer :(
I had a great experience. The price is very reasonable for the quality. Service was great and I can't wait to come back! read more
