If you know me, you know I love Seal Beach. This little Mom and Pop sushi place is right on the very quaint Main Street of Seal Beach. We arrived kind of late in the evening, and a few parties were leaving just as we arrived. When you first walk in, you can see a sushi bar where you can watch your food being made. We sat in the dining room next to a window which you can watch people walking by. The dining room is nice with lots of traditional Asian touches and some really cute restaurant posters. We really were not very hungry and just stop by for a snack. Our server was really nice and was really cool with this ordering so little for three people. We ended up ordering some gyoza, which is my favorite, a spicy tuna roll, and a crispy salmon skin roll. All were delicious. I think this may have been the best gyoza I've ever had!! Just moved down to this area, and have been looking for a new sushi spot, this place delivered! We ordered teriyaki beef, edamame, rainbow rolls, blue crab rolls, octopus, and gyoza! My favorite was the edamame and the teriyaki beef which was so tender; and to be honest I think about it everyday. The service was a little slow, but our amazing server Patrick was on it! They had a lot of to go orders, and he managed to take care of us and even cleared edamame off of our bill because of the wait! I was really disappointed with my experience this time. The restaurant was a little busy, but our food took much longer than expected. I've been to much busier sushi restaurants and have never had to wait that long. I ordered a Coke that never arrived. For food, I ordered the baked mussels as an appetizer and a tuna avocado roll as my entrée. The baked mussels had barely any meat on them, were dry, and completely lacked flavor. I found myself chewing them for a while because they were so overcooked. The tuna avocado roll took about 15 minutes to come out, and when it did, it was warm, flavorless, and the fish neither looked nor tasted fresh. I sent it back because it just wasn't good. What made the experience even worse was the service. When I explained the issue with my roll, my server kept interrupting me and insisting that "that's how the salmon is supposed to be." I've eaten sushi at plenty of restaurants, including in Japan, and I know what fresh fish should taste and look like. This was not it. When we received the bill, another server asked why we didn't like the rolls. I simply said that the last time I came, the food was definitely better and that the baked mussels were also dry. His response was, "Well, unfortunately we can't take that off the bill." The thing is, nobody was asking for that to be taken off the bill we were simply answering the question he asked. It's unfortunate because my last visit was much better, but after this experience, they've lost a customer. read more

We are locals that love to try different restaurants around the Seal Beach area. We were very excited to see Sushi Hama open tonight so we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Premium Sashimi special which included 15 pieces of fish with a cucumber salad on the side, 3 pieces of tempura, and a miso soup. I ordered a house salad on the side (I would pass on this next time, dressing was sparse and not very flavorful) and my boyfriend ordered a Blue Crab roll. The blue crab roll was excellent! The quality of the crab was so fresh and the roll was nice and soft, easy to eat. The premium sashimi was served on a special platter and we enjoyed trying a piece each at the same time and reviewing. All the pieces were good quality and melted in our mouths. We didn't care too much for the salmon since we prefer white fish. The scallops were probably our favorite! The place is small and quaint and only opens for dinner (closed Sundays). Very authentic and highly recommend. The service was very friendly and quick. We started with appetizers, which were decent enough. But everything went downhill after that. I ordered the teriyaki beef, and it was honestly terrible. The waiter never asked how I wanted it cooked, and it came out well done, dry, and with a texture that reminded me of overcooked liver. The sauce did not resemble teriyaki at all. It tasted more like a strange blend of A1 sauce and ketchup. Ironically, my daughter's teriyaki chicken was delicious, so it seems I just ended up with the worst dish on the menu. Unfortunately, the service was not any better. After the food was dropped off, the waiter never checked on us, not once to see if we needed anything, even when it was clear I was not eating much. There was no offer to box up leftovers (not that I wanted that beef), and no apology, alternative, or discount when I mentioned how bad the dish was. The Otoro Tuna really saved the day. At $19 for two pieces, it has to be one of my favorite tuna pieces that I have had thats not from Japan! The setting is small but very modern and new! The service was slow because the staff always had to ask the main manager questions at the front. She was clearly running the show, but they had to ask her for everything, and she even rang us up at the end with the check. It's not the biggest deal, but I heavily disliked my rainbow roll. The fish tasted dried out, and I found plastic from a wrapper on my sushi still! That should have been taken care of before it got sent out. We order 2 appetizers, 4 basic cut rolls Cali/spicy salmon/spicy yellowtail/spicy scallop. And 2 specialty rolls. Also people who sat down after us was getting most of their food before us. And what made it worst is every sushi restaurant I've been too at least has the basic essentials before you order like having wasabi ginger and soy sauce on the table before food comes out. Didn't have any of that we had to ask for it. And when we asked for wasabi and ginger for a table of 4 people. We got wasabi the size of a quarter and like 3 pieces of ginger for all the food we ordered. It felt like when you ask McDonald's for extra sauce and the wasabi and ginger was coming out of their paycheck. Ended up canceling the rest of my order and left. Maybe only time you could eat here is when there's no one else in the restaurant. Probably wouldn't go back even if the food was free it would probably take next business day to receive it read more
