    Clam Chowder ($11)
    Kingston W.

For decades, I have been a sporadic visitor to Mahé. But my visits were limited to refreshments at the bar, and maybe sushi and rolls. In recent months, I have been ordering entrées from the menu. With this in mind, I am submitting this Yelp. Clam Chowder: The menu lists this soup as "award winning". Staff assured me that they make their own clam chowder (it does not come out of a can). The chowder is very good. The taste stands out from chowders I have had at other restaurants. It has a savoriness, which I assume comes from bacon. Surf & Chips: This entrée has 3pc of white fish and 3pc of shrimp, fried in a tempura type batter. There is a small bowl of sesame slaw, and a lot of shoestring French-fried potatoes. I "feel" that the pieces of fried fish are a bit small. I suspect that the fish is sized to match the size of the fried shrimp for presentation purposes. But at $25, I think the pricing is reasonable in the current environment. Grilled Ribeye & Nate's Fillet: I have ordered both steaks (ribeye and filet mignon) on different occasions. The steaks here are very good for a restaurant which is not steakhouse. Service at the bar has always been good. If the pace of drink orders isn't too brisk, the bartenders are entertaining. They also mix their cocktails well.

Wife and I decided to have dinner before the Gary Owen's comedy show in Long Beach. We ordered 2 rolls a sashimi platter, oysters and asparagus fries.try the asparagus fries they are great the tempura batter was perfect. The sashimi platter was a great try as well. The 2 rolls we ordered were great as well. The restaurant does get packed and reservations are recommended. Small parking lot as well. It is pretty loud in the restaurant it was kind of hard to hear our conversation. But overall was a good experience.

So yummy! Always a good meal. The servers are always great. Its a little loud but conversation is relatively easy. I love a Mahe tini. But I limit myself to 2 since they can sneak up on you. I always get the tataki wraps. My friend loves the Jose's tuna. They have a nice pairing lot which is rare in this area. I usually make a reservation on Yelp. They have a nice happy hour. All day on Monday I think.

Stopped in here for a relaxing dinner as I was craving seafood. I've heard good things about this place so wanted to try. Vibe was nice, staff friendly. We got a nice little table in the back. Our waiter was extremely attentive and probably one of the best services I've ever had a restaurant. Very impressed. Food was delicious. Honestly nothing was bad. We will be back

Went here for the first time. Parking is pretty easy. We went on a Friday night without reservations. We sat at the bar which was pretty small and the kitchen/sushi bar is in front of you. Food is great. We ordered mainly rolls and all were good.

Poke Bowl? More like seafood salad aka

Went with 2 friends for Happy Hour. They enjoyed the HH sushi rolls while I sadly tested out the non HH poke bowl which was awful. More like a limp seafood salad aka no rice. I then ordered rice as a side. Long story short they adjusted my bill after I complained about my food. Now I know what not to order there. The usual good service and it gets packed at HH.

We started with appetizers: mussels ($23) and braised lamb belly ($25). For the main course, we ordered a ribeye steak ($69), Scottish salmon ($46), and "dirty pasta" ($36). Drinks included a glass of wine ($17) and a glass of Coke ($4.50). With tax ($23.15) and an "employee benefits" charge ($5.51), the total came to $249.16 before gratuity. The mussels are cooked in a broth of white wine, nduja sausage, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and parsley, with a toasted baguette served on the side. I liked the overall taste of the dish, but the mussels were small. The braised lamb belly was an interesting dish, as it was served with kimchi and thin sheets of daikon radish on the side. I assumed the idea was to make a "taco" by combining the three components. I liked it, though the lamb had bit of gaminess which might not appeal to everyone. The ribeye plate comes as steak only, with sides available à la carte. The steak was cooked nicely--juicy and flavorful, though I was a bit surprised by how rich it tasted. The "dirty pasta" features large rigatoni, ground duck, ricotta, and sauce. It was good, and the duck made for an interesting change from the usual beef. As a complete plated meal, I think the Scottish salmon was impressive--both for its visual presentation and the taste of the meal as a whole. The restaurant floor has a split-level design. Upon entering, you'll find a large oval bar surrounded by tables and booths. Step down a level, and there are seats offering views of the Long Beach marina. This area with a view is protected by windows--which is good, as the marine air is often cool and breezy. It seems that nearly all the establishments owned by this restaurant group have names starting with the letter or word "A." When searching online, use the words "a pch restaurant," as "a pch" alone is apparently too vague a search term. A final note to management: I was surprised to see a $5.51 charge for "employee benefit" on our bill. I playfully asked our server what benefits this covered, but they didn't know. They mentioned it could be removed if I objected, but I chose not to. My point is, if you're charging diners, shouldn't your staff be able to explain it? And if the line item can be so easily discharged, maybe you shouldn't be adding it in the first place.

From the service, to the food, to the ambiance, it's all so amazing. We ordered the mac and cheese, ribeye, filet mignon, souffle, and got the creme brûlée for his birthday on the house. Every single thing we got was literally amazing and seasoned so well. We typically have to add salt to our steaks whenever going to a steak house, but not at 555. It was seasoned SO PERFECTLY. It was even cooked perfectly too. Writing this review is making my mouth water just thinking about it. It is a steakhouse, so you're looking at your normal steakhouse prices. Hopefully we'll be back soon! Highly recommend!

Updating My Review of 555 East Steakhouse…read more I'm here to update my original review of 555 East Steakhouse in Long Beach. Our first experience was unexpected of 555's caliber of a restaurant because one of our steaks simply wasn't up to the standards we expected. However, one of the managers, Solana, reached out personally and asked us to give 555 another chance. I truly appreciated that gesture, so we decided to return. I'm so glad we did! This time, the experience was exceptional from beginning to end. I called for a last-minute reservation on a Saturday night, and Solana told me, "We'll fit you in." Our original party was four, but at the last minute, two more people wanted to join us. Even with the change to a party of six, they accommodated us and gave us a beautiful table on their outside deck. And then came the steak! We ordered the 30-day aged 26 oz Porterhouse, sliced and served beautifully on a board. It was absolutely superb--juicy, tender, richly savory, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was delicious, and the presentation made the experience feel extra special. The garlic mashed potatoes were also absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the steak. Plus first corkage is on the house! To top it all off, at the end of our dinner, they comped our steak. That was an incredibly generous gesture and truly showed us that they cared about making things right. A huge shout-out to Solana and the entire 555 team for listening, reaching out, and giving us a reason to come back. You turned what started as a mediocre experience into a delicious, memorable, and unforgettable evening. Thank you, Solana, and thank you, 555! This is what great customer service looks like. Along with a great steak!

What we didn't expect, but absolutely loved, was their R&B brunch experience. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was lively, fun, and full of energy. The music completely elevated the atmosphere. The location itself is beautiful with trendy and upscale decor. Very picturesque. As for the food, I ordered the Maui French toast, and it was phenomenal. It is not your typical French toast--it had a crispy churro crust and this unique whipped cream, the flavor and presentation really stood out. Sweet, rich, and perfectly prepared, it's something I've never had before and would absolutely order again. Overall, this was such a pleasant surprise. Great food, great music, great service, and a good vibey brunch experience. I have another trip to Long Beach in June and will be back to enjoy it again. The food was so bad that we barely ate any of it. When we brought this to the manager's attention, instead of addressing the poor quality of the food, she immediately told us we still had to pay for it. At first, she only offered 10% off and a slice of birthday cake, which was honestly insulting considering we couldn't even eat the meal. What made the experience even worse was that she tried to justify the poor quality by saying we came in late and that the food isn't the same at that time. That's simply not an acceptable excuse. If a restaurant is open and serving customers, the quality of the food should be consistent no matter what time you walk in. After going back and forth, she eventually increased the discount to 50%, but still refused to remove the meal from the bill, even though we barely touched it because it was inedible. We weren't looking for a free meal--we just expected food that matched the quality a restaurant should serve and customer service that takes legitimate concerns seriously. Unfortunately, this experience fell far below those expectations, and I won't be returning.
