Solera Kitchen & Wine Bar is a hidden gem in Seal Beach! Every dish we ordered was delicious and full of flavor. The Preflight Bread Service, Honey Butter Cornbread, and Ground Control potatoes were the perfect way to start the meal. For our entrées, the Hangar, Wohrman Reserve, Pecking Through the Orchard, and Chophouse Standard were all cooked perfectly and each had its own unique flavors. Dessert was just as impressive. Conner's Closer and the chef's special tiramisu were the perfect ending to an amazing meal. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. Newly opened restaurant in old town Seal Beach is a great location to enjoy before or after a meal. Four of us tried it for the first time this weekend. We did start with Charcuterie and bread appetizers. The different butters were outstanding. Both appetizers were excellent and more filling than expected as we were going to have dinner too. We had a variety of entrees. My pan-seared chicken was good. The sauces were good and there was fruit and sweet potatoes as part of the dish. The sweet potatoes were in the skin and very dry. The halibut was not enjoyed by the person who ordered that and was cooked differently than usual. The hanger steak was okay. The restaurant was full and loud for the early part of the meal until some people left. Seating is good but relatively close to one another. We heard from people next to us the pork chop was very good. Service was slow at first and we had to ask for water refills of the larger bottle they provide a couple of times. We like local ownership and hope they do well. I noticed 15 prior reviews all being a 5 which I think is too high. read more

Solera! While it's just over in Seal Beach (210 Main Street, where Osteria Mare Blu used to be), this new restaurant may already be my favorite in the area. It's small (seats about 30 people, including bar space), it's not stuffy at all. Despite super high end food (without prices to match) and utterly fantastic wine list (it beats A PCH for the best wines by the glass), it's not pretentious. Best yet, it's not crowded (yet). Been open for a little over a week to little o no fanfare. - Enter fanfare - While I respect it if others disagree, I put this place on equal footing with Heritage - at about 1/4 of the price. I had artichoke hearts in aioli ($16) which were perfectly cooked but what was really brilliant was citrus wedges that kept the dish from being heavy. It was fantastic. Paired perfectly with a glass of French Chablis ($20) that was (aptly) recommended by the owner Brent. Next I had halibut tacos (2 for $26) with a punchy aji amarillo and a smoky guajillo salsa. Paired beautifully with a glass of La Ferme marsanne. It was beautiful - and expertly cooked. I would have thought it wasteful to put halibut in a taco, but each ingredient sung. For dessert, I had both (yup, I went there) the butterscotch pudding and the pavlova. Chef Michael really distinguished himself here - neither was overly sweet and both were quite playful in using hidden sweetness: most pavlovas I've had (basically a merangue slice) are afraid of it and bury it in sweetness. Not so here - it was crisp with a small amount of cream and fruit. It was delicious and not at all heavy or cloying. The pudding was amazing: it was malty and salty, sort of an oatmeal flavor, with a small amount of caramel hidden inside. Just brilliant. It paired perfectly with a Tokaji (which I had never heard of before, but tasted a lot like a less syrupy Sauternes). The food was brilliant, the place light and airy and the staff delightful. This is my new favorite restaurant anywhere. Will be back often. read more

What a great, delicious, fun vibe Seal Beach needed this type of spot. Special wine tasting rotate every month. But they have a great wine selections. Wine is one, but the food is top tier. We order the burrata on toast with tomato, thin speck and pesto spread= delicious Speedbird- one of the best crispy skin, juicy in capers lemon sauce=10/10 Our server Carrie was amazing, running around the whole restaurant. A for effort! First of all, this is a great addition to Main Street, open for about a month now! The decor channels cute French bistro with some beachy tones. The tables are a bit scrunched together so keep your elbows in. No full bar, but the wine list should have something for everyone. My Syrah from the loire valley lost its peppery glory, but such is the risk we take with wine by the glass. The bread trio was a great starter, and the caraway was my favorite. However with the trio of butters was the star of the show: jalapeño butter. No need to change anything about that one. The rest of the food had some problems with execution: my cauliflower steak was quite flavorful but too oily. My friend's duck was also tasty but the skin was not crispy, and the accompanying mole was oddly seasoned with tamarind and cinnamon notes. Our neighbors were not thrilled with their crème brûlée as the custard was too thick and unwieldy. A birthday bonus is kindly provided with a free scoop of gelato, which had very fresh vanilla bean notes but was a tad freezer burned. Service was a bit slow but they were trying. There are still execution issues with the food and other kinks to iron out, but with some more time and finesse, I have high hopes for Solera and look forward to coming back. read more

My girlfriends and I visited during the soft opening, and it was such a lovely experience. We snagged a cozy lounge corner overlooking Main Street, which made for the perfect setting to catch up over good food and wine. We shared the charcuterie board, meatballs, and artichoke hearts, and everything was delicious. One friend ordered the halibut, and the presentation alone was enough to turn heads--it looked absolutely beautiful coming out of the kitchen. One thing that really stood out was the wine list. It felt thoughtfully curated and refreshingly different from the same handful of wines that seem to appear on every menu in town. It was fun to discover something new. The service was genuinely friendly and welcoming, especially impressive during a soft opening. You could feel the excitement and care from the staff, and it made the whole evening even more enjoyable. Everything was amazing! The staff was incredibly kind, and the owner even came by to introduce himself and make us feel welcome. We started with the fried artichokes, and the Serrano sauce was outstanding just the right amount of heat and packed with flavor! We went recently for a birthday. I made a dinner reservation in advance. We arrived and they had our reservation, in a seating area by the window with comfy chairs and a couch and a low coffee table. This would have been so perfect if we were there for a glass of wine but not for dinner. We shifted to the bar and had a good time. Although we were all in a row so it was a bit hard to communicate. The appetizers were large portions and very good, the entrees were good. We ordered the steak x2, pork chop and the halibut entrees. The pork chop was the winning dish. Our bar neighbor ordered the cornbread and said it was a must try next time. We ordered some great wines. My advice to anyone making a reservation for dinner is to be specific if you want a table or the bar or the couch area as the restaurant is not that large and enjoy the great wines and food. The waiter kept forgetting that there were 3 of us and only taking a drink and food order from 2 of the guests. Our appetizer came over our main meal was served. Solera is a great addition to Seal Beach's Main Street. We went for dinner and had a few of their dishes from appetizers to entrees. The cornbread and meatballs were delicious but our favorites were the Citrus marinated artichoke hearts as well as their duck breast in mole. They have a fantastic selection of wines and the atmosphere is welcoming and beautiful. Staff is friendly and attentive. Where to start!? The owners Brandon and Nicole were incredibly kind and made the whole experience 10x better. We are wine beginners and Brandon used his wine knowledge to help us pair wine with our meals. I got the pork chop and my boyfriend got the duck breast. Long review for Yelp, but this restaurant is worth the read. We had been wanting to try this new spot after driving by for weeks and seeing the "opening soon" sign. We were excited for something beach-casual but a bit more upscale. Since it was just opening, we came in cautiously optimistic. At first, we weren't sure what to expect. The space felt a little small, and when the owner greeted us and explained it was their soft opening, encouraging honest feedback, good or bad, we briefly wondered... are we test customers? We couldn't have been more wrong. The staff was fantastic from start to finish. Our server recommended the bread flight, and being hungry, we said yes. The moment the bread hit the table and we smelled it, everything changed. It's all made in-house, and what first felt small suddenly felt cozy and welcoming. The house-made butters (three of them!) were incredible, and we hadn't even ordered appetizers yet. Then came the chef's cornbread. I even said I'm not a cornbread fan, but they insisted. I'm glad they did, because it was ridiculously good. The wine list was impressive, from regions all over the world. The owner clearly knew the list well, offering thoughtful recommendations ranging from familiar favorites to more unique wines from Europe and South America. Then the food arrived,and wow. The pork chop, steak, pasta, and duck (yes, duck) were all fantastic and served perfectly hot. To top it off, Chef Michael stopped by our table to personally ask about our experience and welcome feedback. That's when it clicked, this wasn't a team figuring things out. This was a polished operation led by an experienced, confident chef who genuinely cares. Everything was outstanding, and we can't wait to come back. Made a reservation via Yelp for last night (Sunday) and when we arrived the hostess confirmed it on her tablet, then she promptly seated us in a cozy booth. Noise level was a little high, but with the World Cup match being played on TV, it wasn't too surprising. High energy vibe. Riley was our waitress and she was very attentive, took her time with answering our questions, didn't feel rushed at all. She was very apologetic when food didn't arrive as soon as she had hoped, but we were in the mood for a leisurely dinner anyway. Our heads were on a swivel marveling at the food being delivered to the neighboring tables, as the presentation of everything, especially the entrees, was visually stunning. We started with their charcuterie which would have been ideal for a party of four, but we boxed up the leftovers for a a little snack for later at home. Cheeses, berries, olives, candied nuts, meats, etc. were all delicious. However, we noticed that one of the three meats was missing, which we discovered when a table next to us ordered the very same thing. We shared the chicken entree, which was moist and full of flavor, although it was a bit on the salty side. When we mentioned this to our waitress, she said she would share our comments with the chef. That's one of the great things about this place is that they are open to receiving constructive criticism without getting defensive or having an attitude. For dessert, we shared their house made olive oil cake with a scoop of blood orange gelato (an add on) which satisfied our sweet tooth. We actually enjoyed the gelato more than the olive oil cake, but that's just a personal preference. My girlfriend really enjoyed her vertical flight of four different Rioja Tempranillo's. Each 2 oz pour was better than the previous one. We understand that additional flight options may be added to the menu in the future. This is a newly opened restaurant, so they're still getting into a rhythm and refining things as needed. And that's all you can expect from a restaurant is listening to their customers and being open to change to improve the overall experience. We understand that their lunch menu offers things different than the dinner menu, so we will definitely be back to explore other items! One final comment: many of the items on the menu have cute and clever names, some named after family members, which I didn't give much thought to until I received the check and I was mentally reviewing what we ordered and tried to reconcile it with the bill, which contained the quirky names from the menu! So instead of listing an item on the check as charcuterie, it's shows up as The Boarding Pass. Ha! That's completely on me, since my short term memory isn't the greatest and I get confused easily. read more
