Prime rib, medium rare, baked potato, green beans. (I had taken a couple of bites!)

Well, the same friend and I finally made it back to Maderas, this time for dinner. Our server (Sam, I believe...) took good care of us from start to finish. Evidently, this is THE place to be in Los Alamitos on a Friday night, so if you're going for dinner I suggest making a reservation. We started with cocktails (she: the "Orange Fashioned"; me: Martini with bleu cheese olives). Sam also brought out a couple of sourdough rolls that were SO HOT they literally had to cool before either of us could touch them!! We both ordered the 14 oz prime rib, medium rare. For sides I had the baked potato and green beans. The potato could have been hotter, but that's my only complaint and it's not a big enough deal to deduct a star. Portions were generous, flavorful, and done to perfection. Service was great. The restaurant itself was loud, but because most restaurants (including this one) don't use any textiles, there is nothing to absorb the noise. Just the way it is today. In short, dinner was great and I'm super glad to have given this place another shot. Will definitely return.

Strawberry Mojito.

First time here. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our waitress was Jenn. She was welcoming, sweet, professional and efficient. The hot complimentary sour dough bread melt in your mouth. Everything we ordered was delicious. My strawberry mojito was made perfectly. It was not too sweet. I was able to taste the liquor. My husband received a complimentary strawberry cheesecake . Which was the BEST I've ever had. It tastes amazing!! It wasn't too sweet. It was very creamy, rich and decadent. Ambience is chill, dim lights, really sets the mood as grown up vibes. Live music starts at 6p.m

The Maderas Manager who discriminated me because I'm Asian-Filipino to be exact.

The manager-Alicia who I believed discriminated me because I had a reservation for 3 people and made me wait until all 3 of us were there. While she seated the 3 Caucasian women that walked in without a reservation for 8 people. I questioned her and Alicia told me that half the guest must be present before the party could be seated. Does she even know her Math? My reservation was for 3 people and I was there but didn't seat me. But she seated the 3 women who didn't have a reservation for 8 people. Is 3 half of 8???

This restaurant is becoming a family favorite. My wife and I eat here for lunch usually but it's become a celebration place too. We came here my wife's birthday, my dad's birthday, and we came here Christmas Eve with my parents. My mom's a vegetarian and they have a full sized vegetarian menu you can ask for with lots of choices. Her veggie burger was massive! My dad always gets the Santa Fe which is a flat iron steak topped with manchego cheese and hatch chilis. I loved that steak too but for Xmas Eve I topped my steak with chipotle peppers and blue cheese. That was pure heavenly. My wife had the peppercorn filet mignon which she loved. Tri tip is always a safe bet. Top it with BBQ sauce and you can't go wrong. Yesterday we returned and tried their entree salads which are delicious. I really like the huge selection of side dishes too. I can't resist the corn nuggets! Drinks are cheap and service is usually really good. Only thing preventing 5 stars is the desserts are pretty bad except the ice cream and there are inconsistencies with cooking the steaks. None of us liked the cheesecake and my dad said the keylime pie is the worst he's had. My wife and I split the bananas foster which was really bad. I do love their vanilla ice cream topping with Pedro Ximinez sherry. Unique and delicious. My mom had this enormous brownie sundae. She's ordered it three times so I assume she approves. I am really glad to have rediscovered this place and cannot wait to try more stuff. The brunch menu has some tasty looking items.

12 oz Boneless Ribeye, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Spinach

Finally got to try this place for my boyfriend's birthday. The service and food were amazing! We both got the boneless 12 oz ribeye and both steaks came out to our preferred temp (medium rare). I enjoyed my sweet potato mash, that was something different from my usual sides. We went on a Thursday night and there was live music - not sure if that's certain days or an everyday thing but it was a nice touch to our dinner. Ended the meal with their cheesecake and that's one item I would recommend getting. They told me it's a two day process to make the cheesecake and you can taste it. The crust was moist, the cheesecake was smooth and creamy. Wish I got a picture of it but it was gone in seconds lol. Anyways, def will be back because I want to try their beef ribs next.

Off to a good start with an old fashioned

Wifey and I were running errands along the OC coast. We wanted to keep healthy with some protein and veggies. Well Maderas Steak and Ribs was a fabulous find ! Parking can be cramped on a busy night keep that in mind. We got there and were seated right away. Hostess and staff were very nice. The place has an upscale but local vibe. Best way to describe it's a feeling like you're going to see a good friend. The old fashioned was Ok. The margarita was also ok. The wilted spinach with garlic and feta was so good I had it as my entree and also as a side to my 14oz prime rib. The prime rib was super tender and flavorful. At first it looked less pink than I would expect medium rare to be - but no worry it was juicy tender and one of the best I have had. Oh did I mention the owner frequently stops by the tables and socializes. Total welcoming feeling.

Birthday cheesecake

Best steakhouse I've ever been to! We went for another birthday dinner for mom (she's getting a few) with my aunt and uncle. Oh my WOW!! The food was incredible...everyone's plate was exquisite! Service was quick and friendly! They brought mom cheesecake for her birthday...so thoughtful! Easy parking and great bathrooms! We will for sure be back! This from a girl who doesn't love steak and I ate all of mine

Chilaquiles El Paso with the New Mexico green chili, beef tips, and eggs over easy.
B N.

We have dined here probably 8 times in the past 4 years and we've had hit and miss experiences. We are not big fans of their steaks or prime rib. We are big fans of their burgers, BBQ items, their fresh hot dinner rolls, their deserts, and especially their New Mexico inspired menu items. We came for their small weekend brunch menu this morning that is only good from 11 - 2 pm. Their version of the green chilaquiles (El Paso style) include beef tips with melted white cheese and New Mexico green chili's is outstanding! The semi-pureed black beans has great texture and flavor and perhaps made with a little lard? A must to to get with any of their New Mexican dishes is a side of their flour tortillas shipped fresh from New Mexico. Absolutely the best I've ever had. Early meals and dining here is a better bet than evening dining in my opinion.

My group came here again. This time I ordered a salad with chicken breast and a quesadilla. It was very spicy and good. I came with a group again, and we all had a good time. Service was great and so was the dinner.

The steak was delicious asked for it medium rare and they delivered! Service was pretty quick, spot was not that full. They brought us some bread and butter to enjoy before dinner. We also had pasta and chicken that was really tasty. Overall great experience.

This is such a wonderful place to have a date. The ambiance is romantic yet lively. The bartenders are so friendly, as well as the servers. The food is out of this world delicious. My husband and I have been coming here for years to celebrate special occasions. We recently celebrated our 16 year "together " anniversary, and knew this would be the perfect spot. My husband loves the ribs, Mac and cheese, and green beans. He orders the same thing every time. I usually get tri tip, but this time I got the sirloin. It is AMAZING! By far one of the best sirloin steaks I have ever had. The inside was a perfect medium rare, and the outside had a nice char. I added the seared blue cheese crust and it was absolutely fabulous. I got cole slaw, which I also always get. I tried the dirty rice for the first time and it was so delicious. I will always get that from now on. I love a good rice pilaf, dirty rice and this one was top notch. The bread that is complimentary is delicious. Its a lovely sourdough roll. The cheesecake is also the best around! I have yet to try a better cheesecake. The wine selection is great, and the martinis are glorious. I recommend the cucumber martini. Its very refreshing. The live music is always a hit and we look forward to celebrating here.

I had a good meal here with a friend several years ago. My girlfriend and I finished up a leisure activity a few blocks away so we decided to visit Maderas since I was in the mood for a good steak. The front of the restaurant looks classy with stacked stone, nice exterior molding, and wood window and door accents. They share a parking lot with a small strip mall and there is not a lot of parking. The last time I was here, I had to park on Katella a few hundred feet away from the restaurant. However, this time we arrived around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon and got a parking spot right in front. The inside has a nice warm and cozy feel and there is a good sized bar area. We ordered a wedge salad to split for a starter. Unfortunately, the bacon seemed like it was barely cooked at all and was soft and mushy. You usually expect a wedge salad to have the bacon be at least a little crispy. I asked if they could make us another one with some crispier bacon but our server said all the bacon was batch prepared so we settled for another one without the bacon which was good otherwise. For my entrée, I ordered the Sante Fe steak. I have never had a steak before with this preparation and it was really good. The flat iron steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and the hatch chiles and melted manchego cheese on top was a great flavor combination. The spinach was prepared perfectly, had a bold garlic flavor, and the feta cheese on top provided a nice complement. The green beans were blistered nicely and had a lighter garlic flavor than the spinach. My girlfriend had the Thai Salmon from the specials menu. The salmon was cooked well done as ordered but it was a little too drenched with sauce. She had the green beans and the garlic mashed potatoes which just had a little garlic flavor. It must have been good because the plate was empty afterwards. Our server was friendly and took good care of us. The prices are just a little bit above average. Overall, we had a good meal aside from the wedge salad, and we would probably return once in a while if in the area.

Ask the Community - Maderas Steak & Ribs

Do they offer military discount?

I haven't seen anything in writing about this. The best thing is to call up and ask to speak to the manager and ask where the current information.

I have a severe shellfish allergy can food be prepared and grilled away from and shrimp, lobster or any other shellfish?

We cook shrimp and king crab. The shrimp is cooked on the broiler. Broiler is used for everything . Ask the server about preparing your meal making sure no residue is there. I honestly don’t know if this would be enough since I don’t know how severe…

Do they offer a corkage fee?

Isn't my friend Yes but I definitely can't remember whether it was $15 or $20 per bottle

Is there a kids menu offered?

Yes, kids love it

Can I order a full meal at the bar?

Yes

Is this restaurant kid friendly?

Yes, this is a family restaurant and families come with kids.

Are you open for Easter? And do you take reservations?

I'm sure they are open but reservation is recommended at this restaurant

Are you open New Years Eve?

Yes we are until 10;00 pm

You open on Christmas?

Christmas Day we are closed to the public. (Day for our Vets) Christmas Eve we will close earlier than regular hours (usually 10 pm ) it will be 8:30 to 9 so our employees can…

What is the maximum outdoor seating capacity?? We would like Outdoor lunch/dining for a large group event.

It has been over two years since I've been to that place so I would not even know you probably be better off to call them in person thank you very much and have a nice day and be safe

Do they still have Veterans eat there for free on Christmas?

No not anymore. God has moved us and his customers now to serve our veterans on Christmas Day at the VA hospital and the Cabrillo Facility. Thank you for your service

Will you be open Christmas Eve?

Nope

Will you be open Christmas day?

No, we are not open for the public on Christmas Day.

Will you be open on Thanksgiving?

We will be closed on Thanks Giving.

Do they take reservations for parties of 12?

Yes but do call well ahead for them

Is it open for dine in/ outdoor seating?

The restaurant recently open again and yes they are having outdoor seating 😋😋

Is this restaurant taking reservations?

Last year they were not taking reservations. We went early and got to sit inside. Not sure they have seating inside yet!

Coming to Maderas steak House this evening to celebrate my anniversary I hope they have live music tonight and I hope it starts between 630 and seven there's anyone now?

They had a single male play a keyboard. It was nice

Do they have live music on Sunday nights and if so what time does it normally start?

I have heard many different styles of music playing in the back ground but not sure about live music.

Is there a dress code?

Clothing Optional lol

I'd never been there before, so this review is all about first impressions. As we approached, the sign caught my attention: "Under New Ownership." Outside, an employee sat scrolling on his phone. It was a quiet Sunday around 3 PM, and we were the only patrons in sight. Checking Yelp beforehand had been a bit of a letdown, as their menu featured items they no longer offer. No links were available either. We ordered half a pound of pulled pork, half a pound of brisket, and four pieces of cornbread--all priced reasonably. Their tap selection turned out to be decent. The Cali Squeeze Blood Orange was a standout, and they also seemed to carry Firestone Walker products, including 805. The staff were friendly and responsive, which was refreshing. While the brisket had cooled by the time we got home, it was still tender and flavorful--just like the pulled pork. The real surprise? The chimichurri that accompanied the brisket--an unexpected and delightful touch. Overall, I'd rate the experience as average. While it's clear they've got potential, a bit more effort could turn Wholly Smokes into a go-to spot. Leaning in on those small details would really elevate the experience.

Oh the BBQ sauce tasted like it was from a bottle. Baked beans were good but it had toooo much juice; wr would only get 3 or 4 beans with each spoonful. The elote was weird. He put his face really close to the fries as if he was looking for the salt. He then tells me there's only a pinch of salt and tries to hand them back. Believe when I say I wasn't looking for them to be replaced but to tell me there's only a pinch of salt was pretty bad. Not to mention he was really rude about it. It's not they were hand cut fries. Spam musubi is one of those things that either works for kids or turns into a negotiation, and here there was no negotiation. They were happy, which meant the adults got to eat in peace for a minute. Dessert sealed it. They have a version of Dole Whip that tastes just like Disneyland. I am not being cute about that. Same soft, cold, pineapple hit you remember from the park, which is a wild thing to get after a plate of ribs in Anaheim. We finished full and already half-planning the next visit. My wife, her mom, and I stopped in for a weekday lunch at the Artesia location. We found the service to be friendly and prompt, and the food (portion and taste) to be great. This visit was a direct result of Yelp reviews, specifically for the pork barbeque sticks that have gotten such great feedback. They were great, but for me, there was a dish that was far, far superior. It's a fast food set-up, with space behind glass for a point-point type of set-up. However, all the food is made fresh and it makes a huge difference. We waited in line for a bit, looking at the menu on the above monitor. It's small, with most of the items being combos. Once we placed and paid for the order, found seats and waited for the food to be brought out. I was warned that the third dish ordered would take a while, but was super glad that I still ordered it. Drinks are in cans and they will provide ice in a cup if requested. There is also a self-serve ice water dispenser. They do push their Java rice (which I don't like), but they have good and simple white rice as well (no garlic rice though). A decent egg drop soup is provided as well, which came out first. Then it was the 3 Pcs Pork ("marinated pork on skewers char-grilled to perfection" for $16.95). In addition to the rice and soup, it came with a small container of finely julienned green papaya achara. In this case, I think the picture taken does do the food justice. They used nice cuts of pork butt, not too grisly but still containing fat. Both my wife and her mom really liked it, saying it was very good and definitely worth the price. My wife especially liked that they used a thin flavored soy sauce as the marinade/basting liquid, instead of a banana ketchup sauce which she does not like. My mother-in-law was happy that the pork shoulder contained a bit of fat...definitely 'Lola approved'. We also got the Pansit Bihon & Canton mix ($16.95), which we all liked. It had been mixed fresh and served piping hot. Sometimes one gets used to buffet steam table pansit so much, that they forget how good freshly made pansit tastes like. I saw something on the menu that I've only seen at a couple of other Filipino restaurants: grilled tuna collar $17.95 (inihaw na panga). My goal was to go over to the nearby Hawaiian mixed plate restaurant and get a beef rib plate to go for later, if my tuna plate disappointed. It did not. The first time I had this dish was at Noypitz, and have tried it many other places as well. This was the best, with the largest piece of tuna collar, cut into four pieces for easier and more consistent grilling. Some places don't do this: for better presentation they keep the collar whole, but then a lot of the hidden meat is raw...and this dark meat around the jaw is not good raw. This place did not have that problem, and the marinade (same as used for the pork bbq) had gotten into the crevices. Some extra marinade was given as well. Most of the dish was bone, but there were plenty of meat crevices if one looks hard enough, and it was still so moist. I really loved this dish, and there was still enough to bring home. I asked the host about how they source the fish, and he seemed very proud of it. I told him about my experiences around getting inconsistent size and cooking result, and he assured me that it would be the same for any future visits. I guess what else could he say...but I appreciated the enthusiasm. Was a bit difficult to ascertain the correct history of Tony's Barbeque and will correct this as needed. Google is telling me this location opened in March 2024, but I see that my Yelp friend Ken C. did a review in 2023, so thinking that's a bit off (first review was in Sept 2023). The original location started in 2008, with locations in places like West Covina and Alhambra. What I read was that many of these original locations later rebranded, serving similar foods but no longer being a franchisee. Examples: In Carson, it was rebranded as Fiesta Barbeque and Bibingka and in Alhambra, E&J Pinoy Barbecue and Bibingka. The one in Anaheim opened in late 2023 (around the same time as this location it looks like).

The first Tony's I visited was the Anaheim store. At the time I didn't realize that there were…read moremultiple locations. When I saw that the menu was slightly different at each one, I knew I had to come to the Artesia restaurant specifically for the ube bibingka! The Artesia store is in a rather large shopping center that has LOTS of eateries as well as a 99 Ranch Market, so parking during peak hours and weekends can become quite the hunt. The interior decor and set up is very similar in both locations. This one is also very clean and seating is spaced comfortably. Orders are placed at the counter and your food is brought to your table when it's ready. Exclusive to the Artesia location's menu are 3 different kinds of pansit, so of course I had to try the pansit bihon as well as a chicken inasal plate. For dessert I had to try the 2 varieties if bibingka that were not available in Anaheim: ube and Macapuno. My foodie friend ordered the chicken skewers plate and an original bibingka. Everything was SO good!!! My chicken inasal plate came with 2 portions of leg & thigh, java rice, a small sampling of papaya salad, and a cup of egg drop soup. Whatever they marinate the chicken in made the meat SO tender and flavorful. The pansit bihon filled an entire to go container! The glass noodles were light (compared to egg noodles) and the whole dish was seasoned perfectly. Even with sharing the pansit with my friend, I still ended up taking more than half home with me. Same for the bibingkas. I ended up sharing the bibingkas with my son later that evening. The ube one is a must try for ube lovers. The macapuno one had a generous amount of coconut "strings" in it. Both were the perfect combination of creamy, light, yet decadent and very addictive. Service was friendly and efficient. Food is made fresh when ordered and came out fairly quickly. (bibingkas are made in fresh batches throughout the day). It's safe to say that I am now a huge fan of Tony's Barbecue. I took a little looksie at the menu for their West Covina location and I spotted some things I wanna try there as well. Stay tuned for a review for them soon :)

Plus it's close to Knott's Berry Farm which makes for a great meal after long hours at the park. There is thankfully plenty of parking available immediately to the front and left side of the restaurant. You can add your name to the Yelp waitlist just inside the entrance and the restrooms are to the back left of the space. Entering through the doors, you're immediately met with the delicious aroma and sizzling of the food. I am absolutely positive it'll put a smile on your face. We arrived at 12pm for lunch during the middle of the busiest time but we were seated within a few minutes. There are plenty of tables available unlike other KBBQ places I've been to. The menu is a QR code and you order meats through your phone. I believe there are three different AYCE options. The cheapest one was $23.99 which wasn't bad at all considering it offered the proteins I was interested in. It's not premium meat, but it was enjoyable. The buffet is in the middle of the room. This is what I love so much about Pocha. I can grab as much banchan as I want without having to wait on servers or them skimping on the portions. I eat a lot of veggies, so this was like heaven for me. They had onions, mushrooms, the cucumber salad, potato salad, japchae, fish cake, pickled radish, kimchi, pickled veggies, bean sprouts, green salad, seaweed salad, the daikon and jalapeño banchan, as well as fried rice, veggie tempura, cold noodles and its broth and toppings. I might be missing something from the salad bar. Just know that there is plenty available. They even have soft serve towards the front of the restaurant. Service was very quick and friendly making for a very pleasant experience. I am looking forward to going back again very soon to take the family for a yummy meal. Try them out. I hope you like them as much as I do.

UPDATE: damn. The food is inconsistent…read more.. Got an order on a Monday night and maybe it was off but the chicken wings were funky-- not lightly fried with the taste of sauce as they had done before. the pulled pork was dry as a bone and the paper thin pieces of tri-tip were like paper. Smoked paper. The baked beans were kind of meh I do like the cornbread and coleslaw but after this I'm gonna keep looking. One BIG issue is the prices are also inconsistent, cheaper in the online app, higher in the store cash register system and even higher on the printed menu. They need to fix that because I don't like arguing over prices with the counter help... But I will. MY ORIGINAL REVIEW WAS MUCH BETTER Love this place, it's low-key and local and has killer barbecue, tasty sides and more. Staff is super nice and friendly, I just call in my order and it's ready in minutes. So far I've only gotten the wings and SMOKED CHICKEN YUMMM plus sides like mac & cheese, coleslaw and greens are delicious. And I love their cornbread, it's generous and freezes well so you can have it later in the week for breakfast! If you have any leftovers!

Visited the 10th's Corner location and it wasn't too busy inside. I ordered two 2-meat meals with…read morebrisket and tri-tip plus sides, one 1-meat lunch with brisket and potato salad, and a kids meal brisket slider. Unfortunately, once I got home, I realized the order wasn't correct. I received 3 mac & cheeses and 3 baked beans, but NO potato salad, which I specifically ordered with the 1-meat meal. My biggest disappointment was the kids brisket slider. It does NOT appear or taste like brisket at all--it seems to be a regular hamburger patty. I even specifically asked the young lady at the register if the slider was brisket , and she confirmed that it was. If this is actually a hamburger being sold as a brisket slider, that's very misleading and disappointing. I would like that portion of my order corrected or refunded. That said, there were definitely some positives. The baked beans were loaded with meat and had great flavor. I haven't tried the mac & cheese yet, but the brisket was VERY tender, and the spicy BBQ sauce was delicious! The food I actually received and tried was good, but for an order this large, getting the correct sides and the correct meat--especially after specifically confirming what I was ordering--matters. Hopefully the restaurant can address the issue with the kids meal and improve order accuracy.
