A Beautiful Lobster Cobb Salad -- Just Change the Dressing! I went to one of my favorite local fish restaurants today, The Fish Company in Los Alamitos, and in particular, their offshoot restaurant, Off the Hook. I ordered their newly developed Lobster Cobb Salad, and I have to say--the presentation was amazing! As you can see from the photos, the salad is beautiful, plentiful, and loaded with lobster, bacon, and avocado. There is definitely no shortage of the good stuff, and I really enjoyed the salad itself. There was just one issue, and unfortunately, it was a pretty big one: the salad dressing. In all my years of eating at restaurants, I honestly don't think I've ever tasted a more bland and boring salad dressing. The dressing they serve with this salad completely lacks flavor and, in my opinion, takes away from what could otherwise be an outstanding dish. So, if you decide to try the Lobster Cobb Salad, here's my advice: ask about the dressing and order something with some flavor! Whether it's ranch, blue cheese, or your own favorite dressing, I strongly recommend switching it up. Don't let the standard dressing keep you from enjoying what is otherwise a fantastic salad. The good news is, I'll absolutely be back. I really love this new Lobster Cobb Salad, and I'll definitely order it again. The only difference next time is that I'm changing the dressing to something that actually has some flavor! read more

My husband and I went on a dinner date, and this turned out to be the perfect place! Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The night started off with a Watermelon Basil Tini and Cucumber Basil cocktails and calamari as an appetizer which were yummy! The food was delicious. The best part of date night is trying twice the items! Haha The recommended dish was the $42 halibut which came macadamia crusted or hot (server said it was like a Nashville hot chicken sandwich). The macadamia crusted halibut with cream corn salsa and a blood orange glaze was delicious but I was bummed it was a smidge of decorative sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked & a large portion size. The hot was equally tasty and I ate the crunchy corners off two edges when my husband was in the bathroom. Delicious! The World Famous clam chowder was good but nothing mind blowing. I'd been here before but I always tried the same thing (Blue Prawn Pasta that's AMAZING), so this time I switched things up. The fish is so fresh and the lobster was decadent, as it was easy to pull off the meat from the tail, in addition to my medium rare steak, which I ended up taking home. My wife and I came here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy and bustling with activity, but we were able to get a table right away. It is a casual place where locals go to get a good meal. Our server Ollie was amazing. She was so pleasant and attentive and made for a nice evening. We started with some really good cocktails, and the fried calamari appetizer, which was very tasty. My wife had the yellowfin tuna special, and I had the halibut with a lemon sauce which was delicious. To finish we had the bananas foster. The patio was very loud, but my wife and I were still able to have a conversation and hear one another. My husband has been talking about the oysters here like they changed his life--so we finally came to see what the hype was about. Of course, we showed up at 2pm on a Saturday: not happy hour, not busy, just that weird restaurant twilight zone where vibes are high but service is on vacation. To their credit, the place looks great. Indoor and outdoor seating with solid ambiance--would've been a vibe if we weren't busy waving down servers like stranded sailors. The staff seemed more invested in their group chat IRL than in, you know, noticing us. When the food finally arrived, it was good, but not "I'm okay with this bill" good. The hamachi crudo was so tasty I briefly considered licking the plate. The oysters? Super fresh and living their best life with cocktail horseradish and ponzu. The crab dip was rich enough to be an entree in disguise, and the halibut ceviche was mostly onions and tomatoes cosplaying as fish. Moral of the story: come during happy hour, when the prices (and servers) are more present. Otherwise, enjoy the scenery--because you'll have time to soak it all in. read more

The burrata crostini was good but small, I wouldn't order it again for the price. The fish and chips were delicious! Smaller than what I've been used to at Walts Warf but really good. I had a glass of Treana Sauvignon Blanc and I loved it! My husband had the hazy ipa and enjoyed it as well. Of course we enjoyed the clam chowder too. The service was prompt, and we were taken care of. We sat inside at a high table and it was comfortable, started to get louder as the night went on. We will be back! read more

Nice rounded flavor-slight saltiness from the burrata, juicy tomato, tang from balsamic & bitter from sprouts. Really yummy. Not sure the $9 price for 2 slices was a deal though. Cup of New England chowder-$10 finished my meal. Fun atmosphere with really pretty Eurasian waitress. Need to come back to try other items on the regular menu. He answered all questions and the service that followed was outstanding. They also have an excellent bar. My Bombay martini was chilled and delicious. They serve a full selection of beers on draft and have a full wine list. Now on to the food. I had the lobster salad which was loaded with fresh lobster. I took half home as it was so large. My dining partners' split the crab/lemon pasta. One of them had a Caprese salad and the other one had the arugula salad. Everything was delicious by report. The IPAS were both quite good, although I liked the Liquid Candy hazy IPA over the Belching Beaver IPA. We split the brown butter cake and it was like a warm hug. Our server, Ashley was sweet and attentive. If you haven't been to the Original Fish Company or Off the Hook, you're missing out.
