Sojuya has a special place in my heart for all of the times I spent here with friends. Walking in you're greeted with dining area filled with lively booths, and music playing just loud enough to drown out the conversations nearby. There are plenty of TVs and neon soju signs around, really leaning into the izakaya look for the yakitori. Speaking on the yakitori, the options are varied enough that there's possibility for multiple rounds without feeling too repetitive. Some of my favs are the garlic, and the spicy sausage, spicy pork belly, and bacon wrapped scallop. It's nice to order some of these to snack on throughout the night while you eat the complimentary popcorn alongside it. When it comes to the food itself, one guaranteed item to get ordered are the tater tots, they are always cooked to perfection and the spicy mayo along it just brings it together. Some of the other stuff that is fire chicken with cheese, spicy squid with pork belly, or just anything friend. The beer/soju selection is good, and the service is even better. Really appreciate how attentive they can be, especially the more seasoned servers that have been seeing my friends and I come here for years. The portions are great and food comes out pretty quickly. The only downsides are it can get pretty loud because of the music videos & sports games playing at the same time so it gets hard to chat with friends. My friends and I used to go to Izakaya Sojuya all the time when we were in high school. We weren't old enough to drink obviously, but we'd always get the skewers and okonomiyaki. After we graduated, we promised to have a little reunion here as adults when we were old enough to drink. This little reunion happened recently. My little sister, who is 17, knew I was meeting my friends for dinner and asked if she could come. Since I knew we would be drinking, I called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if she could sit with us since she wouldn't be drinking. They said no. If we were drinking, she couldn't be there. I thought it was unfortunate, but I told my sister she couldn't come to dinner with us. But what was really annoying is that after we ordered alcohol, our server didn't card us. I went out of my way to uninvite my sister because they said she couldn't be there, and they didn't even check. I thought it was a dumb rule in the first place, but it was really annoying that they didn't even enforce it after I went out of my way to ask. The pork belly skewers were really good. I can see why we used to come all the time as kids. Smoky and crispy. There's a big super traditional looking grill at the front of the restaurant, so I guess they're super serious about their skewers. The okonomiyaki was good too. We decided to try the rose tteokbokki since it was a new menu item, but we were unimpressed. There were barely any toppings inside. We also got the steamed squid, but I thought it was a bit overcooked. We might've stayed a little longer, but the sight of a cockroach climbing on our table sent a chill down our spines. We told a server that we saw a cockroach, but she just stared at us blankly and walked away without doing anything. After that, we had serious issues about the perceived cleanliness of the restaurant and left immediately.  I'm disappointed. In the end, I didn't get the warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling I was yearning for. I think there were several interactions with the workers that they could have handled better. This spot is humongous and there are so many tables I'm surprised to hear there are waits. Experience wise the music can be really loud but there's so many themes inside which makes it fun. The drinks are well priced and there are a lot of them. The food was alright in my opinion. It was flavorful but not really memorable. Portion sizes are really good however. Reasonably priced decent skewers and good place to just hangout and chat and have some grub eat and have a few drinks.... This place way way way back in the days used to be an AYCE BBQ place called Ghengis Khan (nowadays those places are known as Mongolian BBQ).... SOJU is in the name so you would expect there to be a some good Soju here unfortunately just not my day to drink..... Great place for groups after 9pm since the kitchen still open. It's really spacious inside. The kpop music is blasting on a big screen but there's also tvs with sports. Now for the food options: We tried a variety of skewers price range 3.75 to 5.75+. The sausage and quail eggs stood out to me. Also ordered meat bulgogi dish - rice is 2$ extra. The chicken or fries combo with soju or beer pitcher seemed like a no brainer if you're drinking and crave fries anyway. I like the variety of the menu plus drinks menu. We also got sake. We have passed by this place a gazillion times. We wanted something small to eat and didn't want to go to far out, so we ended up here, just around the corner from my father-in-laws house. This place has so many cool things to look at, including a wall with drawings of cats - - I loved it! There are lots of ropes used as dividers and canopies, lots of advertising posters for beverages, a chalkboard wall, and collections of cool little tchotchkes including tiny kimonos. They really have a great system here. Once you're seated there is a doorbell kind of thing next to the table. Anytime you want something, you ring the bell and someone will come to your table. It's very efficient. Servers don't need to walk around checking on you and interrupting your conversation, and there's almost no waiting. You push the bell and they come immediately. I love it! The menu is very large with full plates, soup, yakitory, and more. We ended up with some gyoza, and a variety of yakitori, everything was so good! It was nice to pick a lot of little things - - kind of like Japanese tapas. There was nothing I didn't like about this place, and I imagine we'll be back often. read more

This hidden gem in Cypress is worth to try out. The food here is very delicious, I had the Kimchi Fried Rice and it was very delicious. I do wish the portion was a bit bigger though. Solid Korean restaurant focused on pocha food, and a great place for groups, especially for their happy hour specials. We came on a Sunday around 6pm and we were able to get the happy hour discounts up until 7pm. We tried the rabokki, mussel soup, garlic intestine, soondae and whole chicken. Overall, all were well done. One of the highlights being that the sauce in the rabokki was amazing! It was a great balance of spicy, sweet and umami. Only critiques would be that the dduk in the rabokki was overcooked. The soondae was not as flavorful as other soondae I've had - I think it could have used more salt. The whole chicken isn't very large, but the meat is mostly dark and it wasn't dry at all. We got the mussel soup in the large size and the amount of mussels inside was very generous. Finally, I thought the garlic intensine was okay, mainly because I didn't think the garlic did much for the flavor. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! My girlfriend lost her purse and we're actively looking for it. We asked the table before us (table we had prior but moved over because we had more people) to look and they were really nice to help us. But the manager (korean man) said we were bothering them even though we weren't. He then proceeded to say we didn't sit there (we did) and say we don't have a purse. It was in the lost and found. I have been coming to Sojuya for several years. At first, I was a little intimidated because there's lots of options on the menu, but the staff is friendly and willing to help answer any questions you have. We come here at least one a month, more times if we have family coming in from out of town as it's a great spot to to take them that I know will be different than they have in their home town. This place is my go to for great food, awesome service and a fun atmosphere. It is also my go to if I have a larger party. Anytime I have come here with a party of 6,8 or even 10 people, the host doesn't even bat an eye and space is found for us. My friends and I stopped by on Sat, 4/6/2024, at around 7:30 PM. They have an extensive menu since they have a bar, grill, and yakitori place - all in one! I particularly enjoyed the fact that they had pictures of everything on their menu! It is definitely useful for a first-time customer like myself. We ended up ordering the following (Prices as of April 2024): Prices for everything were relatively decent. Spicy Pork - $15.99 - Pretty yummy! I felt this dish was a little smaller than I would have liked. However, the pork was seasoned well and wasn't overcooked. I liked how they had cabbage pieces (prob filler, lol). Spicy Ham & Sausage Soup - $29.99 The star of the show, according to my party.. but also pretty spicy. I had to reach for water multiple times, so this dish comes with a kick. - It was flavorful, but it had a bit of a smokey flavor. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of that smokey flavor, but it was still good. - It's basically army stew with ramen, pieces of ham/sausage, thin rice cakes, tofu, and a slice of cheese on top. Kimchi Pancake - $15.99 - I enjoyed this. This, too, was packed with rich kimchi flavor. It was nice, crispy, and a little oily. We ate this up so quickly! Customer Service: They weren't too attentive, to be honest. We had to ask several times for extra water and had to ring the bell a couple of times as well. It also took a while for them to come after ringing the bell. This wasn't during prime rush hour since we came for a later dinner time. Sadly, I wasn't as impressed with their customer service. I'd never seen popcorn served at a Korean restaurant before, but it was nice to snack on while you look at the menu and wait for your food. Servers are on top of it, quick, friendly and if you have questions on food you can ask them. Every table gets a little bowl of popcorn, and a bottle of water. The foods good, and if you've never been to a place like this you can order by the skewer or just order a dish like you would anywhere else. Staff doesn't greet us and rolls eyes as we walked in for a party of three, and said that kitchen closed two minutes ago. Which is extremely misleading as no sign anywhere says that kitchen is closed by 11:38 pm. Manager on yelp states that they stop serving food at 12:00 am. the food was super good! i tried their budae jjigae which was good and a huge portion. a group of us 4 had a hard time finishing it bc it's huge, but we also got other dishes haha. the chicken and rice cakes was my favorite! super simple and the texture of the rice cake was perfect! also got soy garlic pork belly and pork katsu which was pretty good too. but honestly the chicken and rice cakes was my highlight hahaha. they also give a little bowl of popcorn which is a cute touch haha - good vibes and nice workers! just wish the restaurant wasn't so warm inside read more
