Comfort(ing Nostalgia) and (Pure) Joy Sorry...it's holiday time! Ask me about my visit to the new KC Drive Inn, and I will smile and tell you...nostalgia and joy. You dont need to have eaten at the original KC to feel the nostalgia, because every item on this menu will speak to you on some level... Waffle dog with Chow Chow sauce Teri beef sandwich Saimin and Hamburger combo Ono Ono shake It brings back memories of being a kid...no matter where you're from or how old you are. All of it was delicious...all of it! The waffle dog was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We like to peel off the crispy bits and eat it with the Chow Chow sauce. Anyone else feel like the sauce reminds you of tartar sauce? The teri beef sandwich I didnt get any of ....because my wife ate it all...but she said it was delicious....I will have to sneak a bite next time! The saimin and burger combo was perfect. There's something about these two that just taste better together. We ordered a plain burger, just as a control. It was so good! We may order the deluxe burger next time, but actually, the plain burger was absolutely delicious. The saimin was great. The dashi soup flavor was light...not strong or fishy...so it matched well with the burger. The noodles were cooked to perfection (al dente) and complemented the luncheon meat and fish cake perfectly. The ono ono shake we ordered was chocolate flavored. But because each shake has lots of peanut butter in it, the shake tasted like Reeses peanut butter cups! It was so thick I had to use a spoon, which is how I like it. There was talk and rumors of additional food coming. A special blend of coffee and also nachos....cant wait! I can already envision coffee in my ono ono shake, and nachos over my waffle dog! Yes, 50% of the magic of this place comes with the satisfying food, but the other half, was the joy the staff showed. Dayton and his friends were so happy just to be there....it made the experience next level. Even though we weren't there for a real long time (just long enough to dine in), we had interaction with every person working. Each worker came by our table, talked about food, the restaurant and wore a smile. These conversations, this joy, is what will keep me coming back. When someone is happy about what they are doing...it shows. Check the days and times before you go....but defnitely go....you will leave full and with a smile.

Finally got to try KC Waffle Dog at the Mission after hearing about it for ages, and honestly, it was just okay for me. The nostalgia factor and the throwback vibes are cool, but the actual waffle dog itself didn't fully live up to the hype - no snap on the dog and a lightly sweet waffle batter, but flavor-wise it felt pretty standard and a little one-note without much seasoning or wow factor. Prices are fair for Honolulu and the temple setting is chill with that old-school lunch spot feel, so it's worth a try if you're nearby or craving a bit of local history, but not something to go out of the way for.

Wild! The most hole in the wall place ever I walked by randomly one night. I decided not to go to the sushi place or the Japanese curry place on King right there because I didn't feel like eating somewhere like that by myself. So I was walking over to the McDonald's and stumbled across this Like serious though. A couple signs pointing at a door. Walk down the hallway. Another door into a kitchen that's for the mission. A couple places to see. A couple things on the menu, waffle dogs, hamburgers, shakes. Nice guys I don't know what else to say here. Just the most hole in the wall place I've ever been to. If there were no signs I would've walked by without even knowing there was a door They do Fridays and Saturdays til 10 and are members of the Singon Mission where they are located Food recipes are all from a drive-in that used to be down the street that I closed. It had been there 70 years or something. One of my favorite dining experiences ever

It's a bit of a cross between a flea market and a Chinatown. The prices will get lower and some vendors will wheel and deal if you walk away. I bought a carved coconut tiki mug that started out at $25--my hesitation brought the price down to $15. Dog bandanas went from $15 each this $10 each. You get the picture. If it's fun to look around and bargain, but be aware that we saw similar items at the ABC convenience stores (on every corner--like a circle k but much nicer) for, in some cases, a lower price. Still, is kind of fun to go

It is located very close to the International Market Place, to help visitors like me who hadn't realized what the International Place has become. Instead, coming here to interact with 80 or so vendors allowed the first time visitors in our party to get the souvenir shopping fix out of the way. I did notice quite a few stores selling Hawaiian style fashion for pets and dolls. My mother-in-law took advantage to buy a dress for our stone goose, standing guard over our condo back home.

Like many other markets who seems to be trying to find a place Ho'omau Hawai'i Market has been shopping around and I think I do love this current location at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom which was tricky to find if you're not paying attention like me as the ballroom sits on the 6th floor of the parking building so it's super convenient along with parking is validated at $10 flat rate which the staff was just so friendly to explain it all is nice. Happening over the following Black Friday weekend (Nov 26th & 27th), many are familiar and a few that is new to me browsing around in the cool air conditioning ballroom made the shopping experience nice. Weather it's picking up cute Turkish Towels and glassware from Kris Hawaii, Mamaki tea from Kihene, or my cravings at 'Ulu Chips and Hummus and many offered such great deal along with entertainment is such a calming vibe that has me shopping much more than I expected and the uniqueness is what makes this market so special. Thank you!

The amazing joy I find is that no two market is alike, as this December 2022 at Ward Village event was held in the former Pier 1 location next to Nordstrom Rack. I had a blast exploring @AdamJK uniqueness as each of us loved the realness we can relate to each item weather a time that says shhhh, I got a stress ball that says "Nothing Matters" and I'd really like the hat "I really don't know what I'm doing" for work lol!! His spirit was just so fun and bright :-) My other delight was One Shabby Chick @oneshabbychickhawaii and unknowingly my first tote from her was a collaboration with @makelemonadeproject a non profit to ease financial burdens and going though it myself instantly got me so of course I needed another tote! So many fun gifting ideas, Bas bookshop, jewelry ad even a random give away "fingers crossed" this pet friendly market has something for all. Follow Art + Flea @artandflea to keep updated on their events, crafty retail therapy is a real Art form! Thank you!

We walked across the street to the back portion behind Marukai. Admission was $3 for the adults. The two kids were free. There were food booths but we saved our hunger for Goma Tei in the Ward Center. I jumped on the bike that helped power the KTUH sound stage. I got a free bag from Kaleo newspaper. It had some cool goodies inside. At the Yelp booth, Raelyn played a trivia game. I won a Yelp thermos. Many vendors were set up in a two-story warehouse. We picked up some cool young women's clothes at a terrific discount. Andy Lee was making his art and kindly gave us a free sample. All in all a pretty good night for a family get-together or outing. Also, it seemed very pet friendly even though the theme was Tokyo. During some bedtime talk we agreed that this event was more art than flea, but the flea bargains were indeed great.
